@Oxide_666 - it doesn’t hurt that mine and my hubby’s delSols still get 23-29 MPG (depending on if it city of high driving) after 25+ years. And they are easy to fix too. We just changed the Bpipe & Muffler system ourselves and had changed my Bpipe on my stolen delSol (2 weeks bf he got stolen). We’ve changed the brakes, rotors, starter, distributor and spark plugs & wires, master cylinder, bleed the brakes, radiator (on my stolen one), swapped out the old visors UDM for EDM/JDM actual flip down and over visors (both cars) and just changed the CV axels (driver & passenger) last weekend. And then we’ll be doing the lower control arms (both sides) on his delSol when we get them. Only thing I couldn’t do was the clutch from my 93 that had 215k miles (that was stolen) bought the clutch & flywheel and had a mechanic install it for around $400. Don’t have an engine lift to do it properly.
I bought a black Del Sol from Santa Monica Honda in 1995. It has been my daily driver (and only car) since then. No leaky roof, no breakdowns worth noting and fun, fun, fun every single drive. Nimble, zippy and great for urban driving and parking. Again, the roof has never leaked, ever. (The number 1 question I get asked) and I take the top off all the time. For the size of the car the trunk is gigantic and the cockpit is wide so your passengers don't feel like they are sitting in your lap. 28 years of satisfaction.
I ♥️ my del sol! I work at a dealership, we had an older lady trade 1 in. She was the original owner, drove it off the showroom in 1995! She traded it in with 99,000 miles! I picked it up at cost for $2,500! And I have to say its the CLEANEST del sol I've ever seen! No dings, dents, and the paint is damn near perfect! Put coil overs on it, and got wheels from YOU guys! I get loads of compliments on it, by far my favorite car, since my integra 😍♥️
I had a '93 del sol si and never had an electrical issue at all. Replaced the motor with a Japanese d16z6 and it ran great!! Guess I just got lucky? I thought the waterfall feature was a luxury addition, didn't know it was a leak...
I have a 95, and in the rain the top leaks slightly. But I've never had any electrical problems either, and I've pulled out the carpet for sound deadening and there wasnt any rust. Havent found rust anywhere else either. I guess it just depends if it was mostly parked under a carport or something
I bought one a month ago for 1,700. Previous owner put in a d16z6. Ive has a few issues with it but nothing massive, except for my fuse 15 that keeps blowing because of a bad wire somewhere that I can’t find.
I worked at Honda back then. The Si and VTEC models were different. The So has the D16, 127 hp, SOHC VTEC used in the Civic EX and Si models at that time. The VTEC trim was the first Honda sold in the US with the 160 hp DOHC, B16A . The name was dumb since the already had a VTEC model, but, the D16 in the Si also doesn't even have "VTEC" stamped on the valve cover. Most buyers probably don't even know that motor has VTEC. Glad you did this vid. Thanks and keep up the good work!
My first car was a 93 Del Sol, then upgraded to a 97. By far the most fun car I've ever owned. Not the fastest but damm the memories in those cars is priceless

I need to get a couple more so I can always have one because I know they will be very hard to find one day.
6'2 and can easily fit in the del sol, tons of cargo room out back and "enough" behind you, I was able to take it camping EASILY a fair amount of times. Bought mine for 1600 CAD last year, biggest tips is to find some updated targa seals from the newer generations (pricey but no more leaks). I've sinced owned a 98' Integra GSR, a 2000 civic EX, a 97' Prelude SH, (And in between a few european cars cough volvo and audis) and now I just, literally today acquired an 1995 honda del sol. It's already a great looking car and runs awesome for almost 200k miles but I'm so happy to get back into Hondas. And the del sol drives amazing, it's on rails, just like one of my racing karts. I'm already in LOVE with this car maybe even more than any of my previous Hondas.
The US only had the Del Sols from 1993-1997. Every where else had 1992-1998. VTEC trim started in 1994 and was equipped with a B16. The FIRST Honda in the US to have a B16 motor.
I can't wait for my uncle's '95 Milano Red VTEC to come out of the paint shop. It's still in the process of a full restoration and the motor was recently rebuilt with CTR pistons and cams. That sucker is going to be such a joy to look at and drive once it returns to its former glory.
I LOVED my 93 Del Sol! Not one single leak or electrical problem. Swapped a d15b into it on a weekend by myself. Loved it loved it. I Currently own a 2005 G35 and a 1999 Miata and I have to say. I'd gladly own another Del Sol. One of the most fun cars ever.
I've owned two del Sols and neither one leaked a drop. Honda makes a grease for the roof seals. 10 minutes twice a year and you're good to go. The thing about this car is that they are fairly rare. People don't even notice a Miata but literally everywhere I go someone says nice car or wants to know more about it. Pretty sweet for a car that cost $3000.
I own a 1997 Del Sol Si. I am the original owner. I added a Si emblem to my car. Problem handled. Yes it will leak slightly in a heavy Down pour on the driver side slightly. My car with 208,000 miles is very reliable. I called it my mid life crisis car. I am still in it. Basically it is Civic reliable. It is rarely in the shop. Years go by before something need fixing . The original radiator lasted 23 years!
Bought my del sol feb 2020 with the 1.5 non vtec auto for $1200. a battery, axel and control arm later and I got the best car. car still kills it from 4k (revs) up. I use di-electric grease to help keep water out on the targa and tolerate greasy hands when I take it off and on. This car to me is just a fun summer whoopty, cant beat it. Although I'm 5'4" 130 lbs and comfortable in this. Females smile seeing this car with the roof off, not many around anymore. Coilovers, slammed sitting on the ground. Feels a bit like a death trap, however it is made by honda. Cant wait to take it back out in spring
Lol, it happens. As a matter of fact, when one of my friends was just getting interested in cars a few years ago, he mistook a 350Z for a 911!! But, the Del Sol does take some Porsche design cues, particularly from the 914 spyder.
Im currently learning Manual on a DOHC Del Sol. I love the car but yes it leaks!!! I'm a smol person so it puniness just matches my stature. My favorite pastime is to park next to the largest truck in the lot.
Dunno where your info came from, but a lot of it is incorrect. In the US, the Si had the D16Z6 which was a 125hp SOHC VTEC i4. The VTEC model (which did in fact have VTEC badging) had the 160hp B16A3 DOHC VTEC and optional limited slip differential. I’ve never heard of electrical issues in these and the one I bought many years ago for $1k was very unloved before I got it and still ran like a top.
Now that I have finally boosted my integra and love my daily ve been considering a del sol as a show car project...thanks for jacking the price up alex
I owned one from 95-2011, mostly kept outside. Very reliable and no problems mechanically. The paint did fade considerably, and the top did leak. I gave it a respray, and top issue was resolved by lubricating the seals regularly and clearing the drain. That’s about all it needed when I sold it in very clean condition after 15 years.
They're pretty damn cheap nowadays, probably get one anywhere from $1500 - $4000 depending on the condition. Most people just go for an EK or EG but those cars are getting hit with the tax too.
I just got a green del sol vtec and am loving it. Wanted a mk2 crx vtec but for a quarter of the price this del sol is a cracking little car. Roof leaks were sorted on later models but you should still use that special oil sell for the roof rubbers and apply it once a year. And and the transtop is the coolest thing ever and cheap to fix here in the UK
I have two older brother. their first cars were 90's Civics one had a eg hatch, one had a ek sedan. When I was looking for my first car i wanted a Del Sol to be like them but different. couldn't afford it (insurance was rough) but now 4 years later I picked up one s trim barely running. I have been gathering parts to b20 swap it . Talking to my brothers about the work I'm doing to it has made me feel closer to them then I ever had before.
I bought a 93 Si last month for 100 bucks. Lady said it had a blown head gasket. Zero rust and mint interior, but paint is faded. Had it running in a week. Oh and the kicker is 83,000 orginal miles. Best hundred bucks I ever spent.
Oh My god, I was 3y old when I watched that scene when they were blocking the road, that was when I said “I want that car” and now I own a EDM Del Sol 🤣
Bought a mint condition 2 owner owned virgin all original, 1995 DEL Sol DOHc VTEC with B16A2 for 2800 buck! Recently put the B18C1 motor made it more fun to drive. I’ll never get rid of this car it’s a head turner and ppl love it
As a former owner of a CRX-Del Sol & self appointed JDM master in the 90’s I must add context to some of his blasphemous comments. The model to go for was the SiR - it was 168bhp, 1.6 DOHC B16A engine. This is basically the engine that the Civic Type R EK9 uses, and the same block as the Integra Type R (B18). The car was faultless during my ownership, it had LSD & ABS as standard. Fully working trans-top roof. VTEC and redline at 8,200rpm So, the roof seals would perish if they weren’t maintained - a lot of people were told when buying these that they needed to be greased to maintain integrity and also not be taken through a machine roller car wash! But people being people did not listen and you hear all kinds of horror stories like in this video - when in reality, if they were looked after correctly in the first place there wouldn’t be any issues. The rust comment, well name an early 90s car which hasn’t shown signs of rusting! The point is, it’s an EG series Honda FFS- the engine will outlast the body. Enkeis are not the way to go with hondas either - Mugen is the way forward. And why didn’t he mention that the car which came after the del sol was the s2000? The del sol shares the same chassis and front and rear control arms as the S2K, Honda learnt a lot from the del sol.
In 2020 I bought a mint 1997 Del Sol. It’s my second. First was a 1993 SI. Fun, reliable, TONS of curb appeal. Still gets shouts on the streets. Maybe looking for some performance mods, but nothing extreme. I like the stock look. Need original rims.
@@haydenshilling2177 Nope lmao, I cancelled that order months ago. I’ll never be using FI again. They spend too much time promoting their RUclips channel than on learning how to properly run a business.
Got my 96 Del Sol 12 years ago daily driver since day one. 2nd JDM motor in May 2020. But love it great FL car no leaks👍 I break a door handle every year but I think that's the FL sun eating up the cheap plastic.
I remember in tech we chopped 2 wrecked del sols up and put them together and oh my god painting the rear of this car was a pain within getting dry overspray everywhere
I got my all-original '97 Si for $3,000. It's an automatic but I bought it for my sister, who ended up not wanting to learn to drive, so I drive it instead. I'm 6'2 and can comfortably drive it. Also please don't do any of these mods to it, especially if you find a clean, unmolested car. The value is in originality. A decently-clean car in mostly-original condition is like a $5,000-$8,000 car now and I've seen very clean B16A2-equipped cars go for north of $10,000.
I just bought a '95 del sol and it just needs a little work. The paint is actually pretty good. It's not the Si models. It's the 1.5L engine but still pretty cool. I'm going to fix it up as best I can 😅

I can't wait for my uncle's '95 Milano Red VTEC to come out of the paint shop. It's still in the process of a full restoration and the motor was recently rebuilt with CTR pistons and cams. That sucker is going to be such a joy to look at and drive once it returns to its former glory.
I just bought a 94 del sol si like two weeks ago. My first manual, too
Jeeeez nice ! Hope you enjoy it
Same here but I brought mines like 2 months ago and it’s a b18 ls swap 🤤🤤🤤
Robert Hampton THats sickk!!!
Dose of J thanks it’s my first manual too 🥴🥴🤫🤫🤣
Robert Hampton holy same with mine!!! 😆
I can't find one for that good of a price. Most are up to $15000
@@jacobkreifels7690 There are several Facebook groups where you'll find them for sale.
@@Buzznut3000 which groups? I’m trying to get one with 77k miles but it’s nearly 10k and I’m not sure
I bought one recently and yes it is TINY. It is also fun and VERY responsive.
Never been this early before... feels weird
Im 44 now and I always dreamed about little honda del sol to work on him and out just cruising around.
I can't stop thinking of ChrisFix whenever I see this car
I own a 1997 Del Sol Si. I am the original owner. I added a Si emblem to my car. Problem handled. Yes it will leak slightly in a heavy
Down pour on the driver side slightly. My car with 208,000 miles is very reliable. I called it my mid life crisis car. I am still in it.
Basically it is Civic reliable. It is rarely in the shop. Years go by before something need fixing . The original radiator lasted 23 years!
A car no one cares about if the prices go up but I really want to see - “So You Want A Hyundai Tiburon”
YES!
ahh a tib was my first car, its a poor mans genesis.
Cyrus Fabito looks better than a genesis imo
DIGITAL 6K 神 it always reminded me of a supra from the front
07-08 🔥
Confessions of a car guy: When I was a kid just starting to get into cars, saw one of these and thought it was a Carrera GT 😣😂
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long
Theres something magical about 90s hondas. They drive like no other car for the price theyre worth
A Honda Del Sol is the closest youll get to having one of those hover crafts from lilo and stitch
Nice to see the Del sol getting some love
Owners of del sols be watching this over and over again like me
My delsol is considered my husband and guys are boyfriends. Its hard work but I would go homeless for that incredible delsol.
Clean Del Sols are going up in value. Last week a low mileage Samba Green stock Del Sol sold on bring a trailer for $21,000 USD.
Del sol ....is like a discount s2k ...but it still slaps
Now that I have finally boosted my integra and love my daily ve been considering a del sol as a show car project...thanks for jacking the price up alex
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY
I can tell by your profile pic my fellow del sol brother
SAME
I owned one from 95-2011, mostly kept outside. Very reliable and no problems mechanically. The paint did fade considerably, and the top did leak. I gave it a respray, and top issue was resolved by lubricating the seals regularly and clearing the drain. That’s about all it needed when I sold it in very clean condition after 15 years.
The video I've been waiting for, even though I bought a clean ass 97 Del Sol last year.
I have owned 2 del sols currently own one I love the del sol and believe they are totally underrated cars
Used to own one...god I’d love to have another
Then why did you sell it?
Marius wrecked it
@@dualityofmorons Ok. What car do you own now?
They're pretty damn cheap nowadays, probably get one anywhere from $1500 - $4000 depending on the condition.
Most people just go for an EK or EG but those cars are getting hit with the tax too.
Marius 99 Cabrio....it’s nice, but del sols are nicer lol
I just got a green del sol vtec and am loving it. Wanted a mk2 crx vtec but for a quarter of the price this del sol is a cracking little car.
Roof leaks were sorted on later models but you should still use that special oil sell for the roof rubbers and apply it once a year.
And and the transtop is the coolest thing ever and cheap to fix here in the UK

I have 3 del sols. 2 h2b swapped del sol, and a b20 del sol.
I love them so much.
I absolutely love my del Sol. Ya I know it need a lot of work but it’s definitely worth the time and money
DEL SOL is life.
You should do 'So you want a Honda Fit/Jazz'
I have two older brother. their first cars were 90's Civics one had a eg hatch, one had a ek sedan. When I was looking for my first car i wanted a Del Sol to be like them but different. couldn't afford it (insurance was rough) but now 4 years later I picked up one s trim barely running. I have been gathering parts to b20 swap it . Talking to my brothers about the work I'm doing to it has made me feel closer to them then I ever had before.
I have a 93 with a gsr swap, love it!!
That's dope, gotta love that short geared GSR trans!
@@UntiI117 sold the gsr trans an bought a s4c with an lsd. 65mph rpms are 3800😂 silly short
Just took one on a couple hour drive on some wicked roads. I *need* one
I love the logo!!
🙏🏼❤️
I bought a 93 Si last month for 100 bucks. Lady said it had a blown head gasket. Zero rust and mint interior, but paint is faded. Had it running in a week. Oh and the kicker is 83,000 orginal miles. Best hundred bucks I ever spent.
Ahh the forgotten Honda
Still got my 94 del sol Si ive owned it for 5 years daily driven and garage kept
It was also in the first fast and the furious. That white del sol on air.
Oh My god, I was 3y old when I watched that scene when they were blocking the road, that was when I said “I want that car” and now I own a EDM Del Sol 🤣
Ayeee! I just bought a Del Sol! I freaking love it! Great vid BTW keep it up!
Congratsssss
Dose of J Thank you!
I’m here and I’m extremely happy
Bought a mint condition 2 owner owned virgin all original, 1995 DEL Sol DOHc VTEC with B16A2 for 2800 buck! Recently put the B18C1 motor made it more fun to drive. I’ll never get rid of this car it’s a head turner and ppl love it
I own one thats a 94 with a z6 , thank you for doing this video 🧡🧡
🤘🏾
Z6 ftw
I'm no car guy/enthusiast, but damn I love watching these videos for info.
As a former owner of a CRX-Del Sol & self appointed JDM master in the 90’s I must add context to some of his blasphemous comments.
The model to go for was the SiR - it was 168bhp, 1.6 DOHC B16A engine.
This is basically the engine that the Civic Type
R EK9 uses, and the same block as the Integra Type R (B18).
The car was faultless during my ownership, it had LSD & ABS as standard.
Fully working trans-top roof.
VTEC and redline at 8,200rpm
So, the roof seals would perish if they weren’t maintained - a lot of people were told when buying these that they needed to be greased to maintain integrity and also not be taken through a machine roller car wash!
He did mention the s2000 coming in after the del sol. 1:00
DO A ‘SO YOU WANT’ ON THE HONDA CRX
YES! crx and del sol are my 2 most favorite Hondas
No I don’t want a del sol, I want my lug nuts I ordered *2 months ago..*
You Get Them Yet?
@@haydenshilling2177 Nope lmao, I cancelled that order months ago. I’ll never be using FI again. They spend too much time promoting their RUclips channel than on learning how to properly run a business.
Got my 96 Del Sol 12 years ago daily driver since day one. 2nd JDM motor in May 2020. But love it great FL car no leaks👍 I break a door handle every year but I think that's the FL sun eating up the cheap plastic.
The intro music of every "So You Want..." video... always gives me goosebumps
Dude same! It gets me pumped, even for cars I don’t like in particular.
I remember in tech we chopped 2 wrecked del sols up and put them together and oh my god painting the rear of this car was a pain within getting dry overspray everywhere
Oooff. -Edgar
I just tried to search this up yesterday. This is a sign
Ive owned one and I would own it again. 😎👌
I just bought a '95 del sol and it just needs a little work. The paint is actually pretty good. It's not the Si models. It's the 1.5L engine but still pretty cool. I'm going to fix it up as best I can 😅
