I discovered Arthur Lourié some time ago, notably with his “Préludes Fragiles” and his “Deux Estampes” for piano (go and listen to the second Estampe). I came across this Concerto Spirituale by chance, and in particular the cadenza for solo piano, which I find truly extraordinary, one of the most beautiful and poignant passages for solo piano. At last, a good-quality recording has been made by Nikolai Mazhara. What's your opinion of this piece?
Thanks for this. Lourie definitely deserves to be more known. Unfortunately performances are very few, not even their music sheets can be found much ahaha! He is incredibly interesting, his early phase is too scriabin after that he took the french music style and close approach like stravinsky. He even wrote sheets like artwork, forme l'air u can check it out. Also his other masterpieces are concerto spirutale, symphonia dialetica and golden temple, should be more known!
Man I'm gonna play and record it. You're right it is absolutely great and I don't know how I have missed it for so many years
It's great !
Beautiful. And different. Seems incredible I've never heard of him before. So enriching to discover. Thank you for sharing this.
