The first song was Dark Chest of Wonders (which you seem to know now). That said, Wacken Open Air sells out a year in advance. At that time NW had a different singer with a different style that many were not comfortable with. NW adapted and Anette (singer) did the best they could to hold the sound of NW. However, Anette was sick sometimes, involved with personal legal issues, and at one point was pregnant - and unlike Floor had breath control issues causing her to go off key noticeably. Anyway, when I bought my tickets in 2012, Anette was the expected singer. When it was announced that Floor was finishing the tour, some people who had never heard her sing were nervous. Dark Chest of Wonders squashed that fast.

There are many different stories put in the comments around floor and her start in nightwish. The main one is that people re led to believe this was her fist gig with them and barely had time to get the songs in her head. That just is not true. It was true a half year or so before this performance. Around this time though floor had allready been touring extensively with nightwish since the 4th quarter of 2012.

@@jeffreyphipps1507 Perfect Summup!! I werent asked back then, some decade long Friends of mine just bought 6 Tickets for our Wackencrew how we named it back Then:) One of us had heard Floor with NW before somewhere in January i think and was hyped.i know some After Forever from Her, and know She could Sing, but missed and doubt it in Context to NW. I called it quits for 2013, really didnt liked Anettes Singing, although most monetary sucessfull Phase of NW as far as i know. Still were pissed of the Sacking of Tarja, and how it was mediatized and used making Numbers in the Next Album, so, NW werent an Reason to go to Wacken at All for me back Then. But i were convinced by the W.C.(short for our Wackencrew, or Water Closett:D) simply going with the Dudes, Sanitarian Standards at minimum, Fun maxed and some good Music on the Holy Acres:D.Purple. LEMMY!!( so sad!) Anthrax, Danzig D.A.R., Lamb of God and for my first Time Alice C....who did fail for me legendary, was so dissapointed nearly would have gone to the Tent, sparing me NW with new Singer at that Evening...and the rest is History !you summed it , like said, up perfectly, without my emotional bad english blubbering Grammer!

I think you're starting to see why the NW Army is so strong... this band just makes you feel things. you tap your foot, you sing along, you feel it through and through. Some of Tuomas' songs are just good fun, some are educational, others deep and introspective... and there's a couple that are really hard to hold the tears back when you listen. Regardless of the song choice, they almost always pull some emotion out of you. Tuomas is a gifted songwriter that isn't afraid at all to open the door to his heart and invite you into his pain and sorrow, his loneliness, as well as his joys and his triumphs... and Floor's expressive voice and range, her beautiful tone and impressive power... it's a perfect vehicle for Tuomas' stories. She finds a way to understand and empathize with what he's saying and make it her own while also giving us the ability to empathize along with them. You listened to one of the big 3 (GLS), and now have listened to one of the classic hits (Storytime). If you'd like to try one of the more emotional, more personal songs... I'd highly recommend Dead Boy's Poem, live from Buenos Aries.

    Greetings Ginx.
Of course we won't expect you to get it right in just 2 or 3 videos but the Army is always here to help you with that.
No doubt this has been Nightwish's most iconic performance to date. Not putting down Tampere, Wembley Arena, or Buenos Aires, but this was Floor's first tour with the band but not her first concert.
She walked onstage with them for the first time on October 1st 2012 in Seattle, Washington and she was already a permanent member here.
The band offered her the position 2 months prior to this performance but it wasn't made public until it was announced to the media on October 9th.
This band can cheer you up no matter how bad your day has been and despite your day, it was nice to see you smile and feel this tune.
And if this made you smile, know that the journey gets better as we go.
The opener for this tour is "Dark Chest Of Wonders", another awesome, high energy song!
    One last FYI....
Floor started performing with Nightwish in the middle of this tour, so for all those shows, it was the first time the fans saw and heard Floor with Nightwish when they were supposed to be seeing Anette Olzon.
    What a treat, huh? 😊
Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed.
    😊❤️🤘🤘

I never heard any Nightwish song before 2 or 3 months ago. And I am 57 and heavily into Pink Floyd , Genesis , Yes etc. I went to 2 Pink concerts in my life including the Pulse one. But what Nightwish does live is unbelievable amazing and brilliant. These guys and girl are so good. Makes me proud being a fellow Dutchman. But don't forget these musicians: they are worldclass. Without a doubt the best Finnish band around.

    • @mariodriessen9740
      @mariodriessen9740 7 месяцев назад +4

Another old Dutch guy here, 56, heard a small number of early Nightwish songs and I didn’t like it at all.
But during the covid lockdown the RUclips algorithm decided I needed to watch Nightwish, Ghost Love Score, Wacken 2013. Even though I thought I wasn’t going to like it I gave it a try. Mainly because my ex gf became my ex gf because she shared a huge passion for Nightwish with my nephew and ‘good friend’. It would be too easy to say that Nightwish was the sole reason why they got together and hurt me when I was going through the most difficult time in my life, but it did make me want to know what was so magical about them. AND I knew Floor and I just wanted to see how she would fill her role.
Long story short, I loved and I didn’t miss a single day for at least two years of listening to Nightwish, which is something that only happened when I was still a teenager listening to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, David Bowie, Yes, Rush and many more. I saw all of them, except Zeppelin of course.
And I think this is exactly why I began to love this band so much. In so many ways Nightwish is quite similar to all the aforementioned bands. They don’t care for normal (and boring) song structures, they’re not afraid to explore new musical grounds, every song is exactly as long as it should be, whether that’s a two minute song or a twenty minute song. Nightwish has all the ingredients I love in music.
It’s easy for me to enjoy other genres of music, but this is where my heart lies.
Did you see Pink Floyd in Nijmegen by the way? 😊

Nightwish is good medicine after a bad day.🤘☺🤘. The song is from the 2011 album, Imaginaerum, recorded with 2nd lead singer Anette Olzon. The operatic part in the studio version was done solely with the choir, Anette has more of a pop/rock style, and operatics aren't her forte. Floor can do them, so she did. Storytime, here at Wacken, was song #6 in a 15 song set. Every song was written for one of the first 2 lead singers, Floor added her touches, and made them her own. Tuomas (keyboards/primary songwriter) likes themes of stories and childhood innocence, and is a fan of Disney and composer Hans Zimmer.
For more, try "Romanticide", "Everdream", or the show opener "Dark Chest of Wonders".

Also, don't worry about getting your facts a bit muddled, you're newly coming back to Nightwish and trying to drink from the firehose of info we in the army put in the comments. It'll all get straightened out eventually! Glad you're enjoying the ride.

You definitely found the solution to your difficult day. Your smile started almost immediately. This is not the opener. You need to experience that one as well. "Dark Chest of Wonders". Maybe next one?
This one is originally sung by Annette. Floor kills it. Even choosing to sing the opera section live. How can any passionate music fan not be captured by Floor's amazing charisma, stage presence, and unmatched vocal ability? She was not pregnant on this tour. However, she has done touring more recently while 5 months pregnant.
Hope your day take a better turn going forward Ginx. Your passion is so apparent. Beautiful smile! Welcome to the Floor show. She takes on songs from every era of Nightwish and never disappoints.
Yes, I am enchanted, enthralled, bewitch, and maybe even obsessed with all things Floor Jansen and Nightwish!

This tall Dutch Walkyrie woman singer is a gift for our ears....
She never dissapoint me since the early days....back to 1997
    Always on point.......
Her vocal range is out of this world cos' she can sing everything you want
From a deep growl to Soprano with 4 octaves......from a Disney cover to her personnal stuffs..........it's wide open
But first of all she's a real musician.....voice teacher and on point with the text she deliver
Yes there are so so many good female vocalists on this planet.......but only one is near the SUN
    A superstar she is
But a very down to earth person person first
And That's why i love her so much
    Stay safe

This is an amazing song- Floor slays this. As a vocalist for myself, the hardest parts of this song are: 1) pace and amount of words (so, where to breathe), and 2) the section at the end of the second chorus "searching Heavens for another Earth" because that lands right in the passagio where the voice often breaks for women). The best and most fun (and almost easiest) part is the vocalization without words for the outro. Such a release to belt that. Total adrenaline and dopamine!! 💪🏼😘❤️

i think you really should do the opener "Dark Chest of Wonders" from this show ...
the microphones can´t handle the "noise" the crowd made, 82k people says "hello", the metal way of course 🤘
"Storytime" is the 6th of 15 songs played this evening ...
The anticipation is already dripping from my lips :) and once you visit the other concerts it will definitely get even more so
Let´s do the thing, find a song you DON´T like and you won´t listen again ever ! ;)
subbed, bell on, ready for your journey ... now it´s your turn

Here's a good idea...Its been 11 hours so obviously the NA has already told you 100 times where in the set list Storytime was, (and forgiven the mistake, everyone knows how much information gets stuffed down your throat within hours of releasing a Nightwish reaction for the first time) but, this could be a good time to veer from Gabriel's list a bit and take a look at how they actually did kick the set off...a classic example of the right way to start a show, a nice melt your face song to get things started: Dark Chest of Wonders.
All the things that you found impressive about Floor commanding the stage when you thought it was the opener... Right there in the actual opener. Give 'er a listen!

This is our Valkyrie Goddess for you. And you witnessed first hand a "Dutch Windmill" , and to finish you off, The Operatic "Cruise Missile" !!!!
Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch.
Awesome tune , although it is kind of a pop/rockish sound (originally sung by Anette, the second singer of Nightwish), but Floor gave it soooo much POWER !!! Including this "Operatic" part, what was originally done by children's choir because vocal limitations on their second singer (Great singer also, I might add), but Floor has none of that "Limit".
Nightwish lyrics are often a bit interpretive, and not as "straight forward" as many other bands, because Tuomas ( The Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen: founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish.) prefers people to put their own interpretations and life experiences into the lyrics. you connect with songs on a personal level when there is something there that relates to things you have gone/are going through, and you may even find new connections later on in life when you have gone through other big events/emotions. there might be songs you are quite indifferent about (oh, nice song) and then you go through something big and all of a sudden it makes you break down in tears because now you relate to something in the lyrics you didn't before, and see it from a whole new perspective. imagination and life experiences are powerful, and Tuomas has great appreciation of this.
    NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘And new Subscriber !!!

Hi Gina. Welcome to your Nightwish journey. I have watched a million reactions to NW songs, and I am an expert at calling BS when a "reactor" is clearly just looking for views, likes and subs. You are different. I loved when your inner 20 yo music loving kid shined through the tired face of your bad day. Your smile could not be suppressed, and your eyes lit up. That was a genuine reaction if I ever saw one, and I felt it. Let us know if you are not a metalhead, and you would prefer for us to ease you into the NW universe, starting with suggesting from the lighter, softer, happier side of NW. Then you can gradually be exposed to the more complex, darker side of Nightwish (however, there is usually always a silver lining even in the darker songs). NW can make you happy, sad, pumped or relaxed. Let us know where to take you and what you need. But please remember: You can only react to Nightwish for the first time once, so please take your time and enjoy it. Two words of advice after watching hundreds of NW reactions. If you think you are into reacting to Nightwish for the long haul, wait with reacting to "The Poet and the Pendulum" until you are intimately familiar with NW, its members, its history and the backstory for this particular track. Otherwise you will not get anyting out of that reaction. Under the right circumstances, this song will make you shed tears in deep understanding and sympathy with Tuomas' experience at the time he wrote it. Also, reacting to "The Greatest Show on Earth" is kind of the pinnacle of NW performances, and should - IMO - be kept for when you are just about done reacting to the main Nightwish songs. I think the 2015 Tampere version is better than the 2015 Wembley version (the whole band is SHINING in this one), unless you are a huge Richard Dawkins fan. Please ask the NW army for the best/correct links to react to, as reacting to the best of the performances is the best way to enjoy the journey to the max. Gabriel Bardacs list has most of the links that you will need (www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community) on your journey. And please take us along your journey of discovering NW for the first time. Big hug from Denmark.

@GINX Media: I hope you're doing okay, even after a crappy day. For me, because I'm a chronic depressive, I use music to fight through my bad days. Not so much Nightwish now, as my go-to "pick me up" bands are Unleash the Archers, led by Brittney Slayes, and Indian folk metal band Bloodywood.
Should you choose to react to either band, here are my recommendations for each:
    1) Abyss, Unleash the Archers
    2) Aaj, Bloodywood (Note: As Bloodywood is Indian, they sing in Hindi and English. "Aaj" is Hindi for "today.")
