did you also catch the fact that when the thieves were in the car the driving wheel was clearly round and being used by the driver [while kitt was supposed to be driving].. or the other inconsistency?

Never understood why he had to use a telephone when he had a car like Kitt, later in the episode he talks with Devon in the car. 😂
K.I.T.T. was still new to Michael. They were still getting used to each other.

They do grow on each other in time.
At the beginning of the clip, Michael referred to KITT as a spy, so he didn't trust the car.
As stated, KITT's systems still hadn't been fully tested.

They don't. They dump the first stolen car so they don't get caught.
Michael,not aware of all the functions KITT could do wasn't aware that KITT had an inbuilt phone at the time,so that was why he used a payphone.Ypu have to remember in the pilot hevtook off with KITT without fully understanding what functions the car had and what it could do.
It's almost 2024 and we still haven't build a car like KITT

They tried with the sequel series from 2008, but for some reason people decided it was a bad show.

This reminds me of how old Star Trek episodes they had wires on the communications like telephones from bridge to other places but they could beam humans from place to place…or maybe it was just a wire so they don’t lose the handset 😄
I mean, facing any more intelligent species. Hardwired communications systems can much more safely be protected from tampering.

This just goes to show how DATED TV shows like this are, if the main character has to get out of their car to make a phone call at the nearest booth! If this were 10 years later or so, it would be a mobile phone held by Michael, or KITT himself would have a direct communication line to HQ!
disagree for now. KITT has proper video calling system (or will have in the following episodes or season)
this here emphasizes that Michael simply doesnt trust and doesn’t know his car yet. that is why he still pulls faces and calls out Devon for calling it a him and not “it”
mind you, its still looks dated, but not because KITT or the lack of mobile phones. but outside of the duo everything is proper seventies/80s - but even our most modern shows will look dated in 40+ years time.
i mean just look at Friends when Chandler talks about his AMAZING laptop :) and that was only 25 years ago or so :)

@@mityaboy4639 Yeah, I think KITT had what I described from the beginning, doesn't he? Because even Michael doesn't completely trust KITT yet, and doesn't use all the tech that he has, and even though KITT is revolutionary and advanced, he's still vulnerable to a simple carjacking when Michael carelessly leaves his door open for idiots to steal!

@@Foebane72 yeah, quite a few of these plotholes were present during all seasons. Apparently the most advanced tech with the most advanced sensors and everything… but it allows himself to be stolen. or when someone walks in, clearly with the intention of hurting Michael and KITT only warns him just half a second earlier and does nothing beyond that
or when KITT is being simply taken over by a radio transmitter… yet they have to manually struggle to aim a laser beam to KARR’s scanner… instead of just radiocontrolling KARR :)
and of course talking about the car thief situtation: we know that KITT controls his doors and yet just doesnt close it when clearly a “dangerous” situation is developing … they tried to open him before and with some brute force… then they follow them… but KITT is like… sure pal, jump in and take me for a spin :)

it's not a self driving car...it is the entity known as KITT...Tesla's do not have hyperdrive....yet
0:00-2:54 is a good example why I prefer the original 2 hour format of the pilot as that first bit is cut from the syndicated 2-part version. As is 4:15-5:16 as well as other scenes.

I've seen a few at (some, not all) interstate (state provided) rest stops in the US.
Ridiculous. Like the cops are going to just sit there & pick up the thieves, & arrest them without know what they did, & KITT just drives back to where Michael is at, without the cops following him.

The writers from Knight Rider were probably leftovers from Starsky and Hutch the way they made those two car thieves look.

I must say, KITT was quite rowdy and irresponsible in his youth. Doing donuts on a public street, really. And destroying a police car? Al he (sorry, it) had to do was ask nicely to be let into the garage and hand them over to the cops.
Michael was not ok with Devon mistakenly assuming Kitt's gender.

at fist kitt had keys and gas but kitts technology got way better as the season went.
@@richardr7947 - But that’s the issue. KITT could use a variety of combustible fuels, but gasoline was the common one, and since KITT could start its own engine, why would Michael need keys?
The brick did happen it was caught on cctv he was trying to steal a Mercedes he threw something bounced back and was knocked out.

this clip just made me think. if kitt is such a smart car. why did michael have to stop to use a pay phone? shouldnt kitt have a phone capability?
KITT had that capability (as we see in later episodes), but remember that Michael drove off with KITT before Devon could give him information on all the systems. KITT flat out tells Michael (later) in the episode that he can contact Devon directly.
