    When I first put it on, I was amazed at how different it was from everything I've worn for bow hunting. This hoodie is in a class all by itself. It differs greatly from the Fanatic, Traverse, or even the Core Merino series of hoodies from Sitka.
    When I started this Sitka Ambient Hoody review, I had no expectations. I had been asked to review it, but just like all the other reviews I do, I told the marketing team that they wouldn't get their review until after the archery season was complete. I don't do biased, half-baked reviews. I actually hunt hard and field-test every item I review. No matter if I get it for free or not.
    This review was conducted in the mountains of central Pennsylvania for seven (7) weeks and I found that the Ambient Hoody is one of Sitka's most versatile pieces. It is truly one of my favorite deer hunting hoodies due to its versatility, extreme comfort, quietness, and water resistance.
    From early morning chills to unexpected rain showers, this hoody has been through it all. Let's dive into what makes it a versatile addition to any hunter's wardrobe.
    What You'll Learn:
    Versatile Use: Discover how the Ambient Hoody stands up to Sitka's claim of being an all-season garment that enhances your existing gear.
    Material and Build: I'll break down the Primaloft Evolve insulation, 20D ripstop nylon, and other features that define the hoody's performance.
    Real-World Testing: From steady rains to varying temperatures, learn how the hoody held up in diverse hunting scenarios.
    Pros and Cons: While I love this hoody, it's not without its flaws. I'll share the highs and lows, including durability concerns and design suggestions.
    Key Highlights:
    Adaptability: Whether used as a mid-layer or a packable extra layer, the Ambient Hoody's low bulk insulation is designed to regulate body heat efficiently.
    Durability: With a 3 out of 5 durability rating from Sitka, I'll share my firsthand experiences with the hoody's resilience in the field.
    Comfort and Noise: Understand the comfort level provided by the elastic wrists and half-zip design, and hear my thoughts on the hoody's noise level during movement.
    Water Resistance: I'll recount a surprise rainstorm and how the DWR coating on the hoody stood up to the elements, keeping me dry and warm.
    Why This Review Matters:
    As a seasoned hunter and gear tester, I value honesty and detail in reviews. I received the Ambient Hoody for testing purposes, but as always, my insights are completely unbiased. Whether you're considering adding this hoody to your gear or simply curious about its performance, I aim to provide valuable, real-world insights.

    The Ambient is a brilliant midlayer! I absolutely love it.

    Since it excels as a mid-layer and has some durability compromises as a an outer layer, I personally agree with Sitka’s decision not to include a hood or kangaroo pouch/pockets because those things would mostly be in the way when used as a mid layer.

      They are discontinuing the version I tested and offering it at much lower price. They are moving to a hooded and unhooded jacket that both have zippered pockets now. Same hoodie with 100g of Primaloft Evolve insulation and the 20D Ripstop Nylon. The hooded version is called the Ambient 100 Hooded Jacket.
      I don't disagree with you on the layering aspects. I used it as a mid quite a bit and it was very comfortable. It would be interesting to see if that comfort is different with the new models.

    I live in the southern part of the state but I hunt in the north part of the state with lake effect weather. I am changing my bow hunting clothing and this is one I am looking at for a mid layer. Thanks for review. Darren

      No problem I recommend getting the new version, the Ambient 100 Hooded Jacket. Same exact hoody, the only difference is this new version has hand pockets. Good Luck!

    I live outdoors in an area that can get below 10 degrees (north Colorado) but if I was chasing whitetails/ducks in the south I would have this item and a waterproof jacket.. thats it.

    What do you think about having the base, mid and outer layer all having hoods? If you have the lightweight hoodie with the face mask, then the Ambient with its hood and maybe a jacket over that. Would you put on the hood on base and outer then leave the mid down, would it bunch up? Or leave the outer hood down, or wear all three?

    • @theeverydaybowhunter
      @theeverydaybowhunter  Месяц назад +1

      It does bunch up. That’s why I took the hood off my Stratus jacket. I don’t mind the lightweight and Ambient hoods together, but like you said, it can get to be a bunched up mess if you’re not using them in the order you layered them. That’s why I recently bought the 120 merino without a hoodie. I layer over it with the 330 with mask.

      @@theeverydaybowhunter Well atleast Sitka do provide lot's of options and solutions to various problems. But I do agree with you on the face mask, if either a base or mid layer has a hood, it should have the face mask too.

    What size are you wearing and do you know your chest measurement. I have a 44.5" around chest and I would like the option to put some layers under it. The Large is 45 " max on there sight but don't know if that means there is room or not.

    • @theeverydaybowhunter
      @theeverydaybowhunter  6 месяцев назад

      I should have mentioned that in the video. I’m wearing a Large and have a 43 inch chest. I couldn’t layer too much under it. A wicking layer and heavy base layer were the most I layered under it. You might want to size up.
