      I was going to recommend penetrating oil (or spray). Hit the bolts with the spray and let it soak for a bit and then hit em again with another coat. You might need to use a breaker bar also if you can get it in there or if you have access, as @efte8276 suggested, try an impact wrench/socket.

    First, great video for what used to be a simple task. That said, is the recode absolutely necessary? If it is, guessing I might as well just take the car to a shop for the replacement...otherwise, I've got specialized tools I need to buy?

      Thanks D T. I will say that recoding is not absolutely necessary, but just based on what I've read and the research I've done, it's a good idea because of how the car (computer) manages the battery voltage etc. It apparently extends the life of the new battery. I took it upon myself to swap my battery because the dealership quoted me around $700 to do a battery swap. For what the HEX V2 (VCDS) and the battery cost, I paid a lot less. I wish you luck in your swap!

    the code itself isnt important at all, you can but what ever, the most important are the details about the capacity, type, currents and most importantly DATE. This varies from VAG vehicle to vehicle, but in general it doesent matter if you but varta, banner, exide or anything else.
    In general the serial numbers are there just to make sure you have the battery which is set for your car in case someone would take it out and put on a shelf with many other batteries, for reconditioning for instance, otherwise the serial number is not important at all.

      Sure! If you head out to the Ross Tech website, order a HEX-V2 USB Interface.(store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchv2_ent/) You'll also need a Windows laptop and you'll download the latest version of the VCDS software. (www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.php). Once you plug in your HEX-V2 into your car/laptop you'll be prompted to register the VIN. I think you can register up to 3 different Audi VINs (I've only ever registered my one VIN as I've only owned 1 Audi). The Ross Tech website has great tutorials and how-to info if you get stuck. Your car / new battery will still work if you don't recode, however, because everything is so computerized in these cars, recoding tells the car that you have a new battery and allows it to provide the proper charging/voltage info and prolongs the life of your new battery (see my previous reply to @friendo787). Hope that helps.

    What happens if you don’t connect a back up battery ?

    • @drivewaychannel
      @drivewaychannel  6 месяцев назад

      Nothing. If your battery is completely dead anyway, hooking up the backup battery isn’t really necessary. If you’re swapping to a new battery, where your old battery is still working, and you want to keep power to the car, for the computers and electronics, then you can use a backup battery. But as I said, it’s not really necessary, only optional.

    My battery is 100AH. Unknown option stays writing in the app. Should I use 95?

    • @drivewaychannel
      @drivewaychannel  7 месяцев назад +1

      If I recall I had the same issue. I used the previous stored value, which was 105 ah in my case. 95 would probably be fine as well. Sorry I don't have a more specific answer for you.

    What’s the purpose of receding?

    • @drivewaychannel
      @drivewaychannel  11 месяцев назад

      Hey, thanks for the question! Recoding of the new battery is typically required because cars such as BMW/Audi/VW have high-tech electrical systems that rely on precise voltage levels, and failure to register a new battery can lead to issues such as system shutdowns or the inability to start the vehicle. Battery registration (recoding) ensures that the charging parameters are adjusted to accommodate the new battery's optimal performance, preventing problems like overcharging and resetting the Battery Management System (BMS) for longer battery life. Hope that helps!
