Man I wish I was stationed again in San Diego with my old 4runner. Wrecked it In July and it’s been miserable. Hoping to graduate from college soon and buy my baby back again. This is so inspiring to not only build your rig up but search for a remote job
There's nothing I'd rather drive than my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn for off roading, especially beach/dune wheelin, trails and just cruising around in the warmer months. Doors and top in the garage where they belong. But if I'm going to be taking the family on a long trip, there's nothing better than a 4Runner. Both vehicles last forever, well at least the 4.0L I6 engine does, can't say the same about everything else on a Jeep. Everything else seems to just f n break! The TJ is a fun toy while the 4Runner is the real deal.
I love how you mention the road conditions in San Diego. My Audi a5 got beat to shit because of the roads around here. I decided to buy a beefier car and got a 2018 4runner this weekend. Thanks for sharing your build, its amazing. I'll be working towards something similar so i appreciate the info.
I replaced the OEM roof rack on my 2007 FJ Cruiser, with a a Bajaj Utility Rack and an Autohome Maggiolina Roof Top Tent. The hard outer shell of the tent, is almost indestructible and the aerodynamics area superb. Take down and set up oft the tent is so quick and convenient. Been all over the country camping in it and it is worth every penny. Not once has there been a leak or any other problems. You will appreciate the design and construction quality even more with time. Your video was very helpful and informative as I transition over to a 4Runner for overlanding.
Doood! Your ride is ridiculous!! I mean that in the most complimentary ways. I too live in San Diego and you've given me something to aspire to do for my 2017 4Runner. Kind of dangerous though because of how much money you can spend. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks Brian! The fit is great but doesn't really retract right now. Ideally I'd love to build some kind of retracting spool in there but for now I pop open the tray and kind of pull the wires back in haha.
really nice build, i'm working with my 2016 trail with KDSS for overland excusions, not quite to the extream you,ve gone due to a low garage roof, but she's my daily driver and overland vehcle, proberly the best vehcle i've ever owned. keep up the good work, she looks great.
Awesome build! I’m currently in the process of building my 2021 TRD ORP. I went with the Sherpa roof rack, there was a 9 month wait for the GOBI and I agave an EcoFlow Delta Max as my power unit. Having a wife and son the build is going a little bit slower than I’d like, but still working to get together. I like your RTT, but I’ll need more room and thinking of going with the Roof Nest. Again, awesome build!
Setup looks awesome! Slowly trying to build my Taco and my GF's 4Runner, twice the expense! LOL! I'm definitely stealing some of your awesome ideas, she's definitely in the same camp of thinking in regards to making it tough but keeping it clean and luxurious. Appreciate you doing the video!
Cool video. Why did you choose amber lights instead of white? Do you have any ideas for snorkels for the 4th gen? Also, what do you do professionally that brings you off grid? I fly a desk, that’s why I’m curious.
Amber helps in dusty conditions and I had heard excellent things about the Squadrons in amber for the fogs. No regrets. I run my own consulting venture so it just requires phone and internet.
Sweet Rig. Live in SD as well...own a 1st Gen 4rnr w/ 3.4L Swap and SC’d fully built and a Overland Built 2nd Gen. Thinking about adding a 5th Gen in the Garage. Hope to see you on the trails one Day.
Can you mount the arb boxes and fridge to the new slide out offered on the 2023 model? The tent I often wonder if these companies make insulation for the inside. I live in the east. And our weather can change in an instant during hunting season. Nice rig set up man. I like it.
Thanks for the kind words Troy! As for the ARB mounting, I'm not familiar with the new 2023 slide out but I would say no. The boxes are heavy and the force of fully extended, loaded drawers would likely not play nicely with that slideout.
First great looking truck. QQ on your headlights. They use the INJ 10A fuse location (per installation guide), however that is also the location for the S/C coolant pump (I have one as well). What fuse location did you have to leverage for the DRLs?
First off, I love the setup! I think I have watched this video about 20 times. I have a question for you if you're willing. My wife and I are looking at getting a National Luna Fridge and the Yeti 1500. We also have a 5th gen 4Runner and we were wondering if we could run the fridge from the plug in the 4runner and charge the yeti while we're driving? I heard in the video you can charge the yeti "ridiculously fast" while driving but I wasn't sure if you had your fridge plugged in to the 4runner as well.
Thanks for posting your build. 1) Did you use the SPOD Touch Screen mount that comes with the SPOD to mount it to your center console? Did you screw the mount into the bottom of that useless little compartment or the top? Are you still happy with this mounting location? 2) How are the AlphaRex Nova LED headlights holding up? Why did you go with the Nova over the LUXX? Looks or performance considerations? Thanks again.
Used the screen mount that came with it with a custom L bracket. What I did was take off the whole piece, then drilled down through the top of that compartment then affixed it from there. Still happy with it but larger cups in that holder will turn the screen on but no issues. NOVAs just were the premium choice and I loved the pattern and look of them. I'm sure the LUXX are great too but no qualms about going NOVA they are bad. ass.
I was wondering if the supercharger changed your fuel mileage one way or the other? Did you off-road it much before adding it? Did it change much both on and off road?
How high up did you go with your lift? You look a bit higher when compared to my 4R. I love your build though, everything I've been aiming to get. Have the wheels, and tires. Went with the 5100 lift though, with 700IB springs. And went up 3'
We are getting ready to install the Toytec Aluma 2.5 on our 4Runner as well I'm glad to see an honest opinion on them. We are going with the SPC UCA's. So I'm curious about the tire size? They look larger than 33's sweet build though
Wow. Amazing build. But also looks great. Some of these overland buiIds, I would not drive on the street. love the Land Cruiser heritage in black and love your wheel/tire choice.
Nice rig. Not much on communications no ham radio? GPS? Sat phone? Also have you installed long range fuel tank? And what’s your average after the super charger? 😅
MPG is currently 12mpg fully loaded. Needed to go into more detail on comms I apologize, but right now it's just a handheld Baofeng HAM on FRS. Most of my travels are solo so beyond emergency situations it's pretty basic.
I dig the rig! Of course I want a supercharger and brighter headlights, but I just don’t understand how so many people think the stock lights are dim or the truck doesn’t have passing power. My ‘19 has excellent light output and it makes me wonder if others might have poorly adjusted lights?! Power, we always want more, but it honestly has sufficient power for what it is designed for, off-roading and longevity.
I agree with the power, and maybe I'm spoiled from doing HID retrofits in previous builds but I think the stock lights are abysmal honestly..at least with the bulbs that ship with the truck.
Outworld Don’t mind the idiot on this side of the conversation, I just remembered that I had replaced my stock bulbs almost instantly. Really, I don’t remember what the stock lighting was like. Brighter than me, I reckon.
@@Schultz8003 Haha all good. There's definitely improvement to be had with upgraded halogens or even drop-in HIDs though not fully recommended. But once you see a proper HID retrofit or these Alpharex Novas in action, you just can't go back.
good video I have a question lift my 4runner 5 gen 3 '' I put 285-70-17 mut tires but with 17x8 +15 6x139.7 wheels and I have a problem the front tires hit the control arm above I plan to change 17x9 wheels - 12 6x139.7 Do you think that will solve my problem I do not want to put spacers because I feel that they are not very safe. I await your response and thank you very much.
Could you explain the awning / rtt fix you did? I'm looking at trying a similar combo. Fun fact ARB doesn't include the L-brackets with their awnings...
I have a 3/4" square tubing spacer between each of the four tent mounts and the rack crossbar. It's still a tight squeeze and 1" may be a little better but I wanted it as low as possible. Hard for ARB to include brackets when the applications vary so much from rack to rack. Gobi makes an ARB bracket that is perfect!
@@Outworld any way you can share some pictures of the square tubing spacers and mounting points? I have the gobi stealth rack with removable crossbars, and I can't get it to fit with the ARB awning installed
Nice! I sport a very similar build without the S-pod or Super charger. For the ARB on board air I found the Mountain Off Road solution fits very nicely in the left rear of the engine bay. M.O.R.E out of Colorado
Pretty mellow build. What do you do when the weather is bad I was hoping you had some sort of setup in your car. I guess you don't worry about that as you're down in so cal. Your kitchen setup seems super small. I don't know exactly what you could cook with that. You should get that stuff bolted down in the back. If you get in a crash you're gunna be wishing you did. I don't want to see a fridge flying at the back of my head.
Minimally viable where I wanted to be. I have the skottle out of frame but between that and the MSR you can cook anything. I mention in the video the plans for the back they just went in last week.
Regear isn't necessary if you're just upping by one size, but going to 35s on stock 3.73 is definitely not recommended especially if you have it on long road trips. Nice being in the correct RPM ranges on the freeway.
if it's on road trips you want the higher gear range, keeping RPMs low and fuel economy decent, bigger tires do not effect the engines revolution per minute, however your speedometer will be off.
thanks for the video...I got super inspired and just purchased a 2021 TRD Offroad Premium 4runner and building it almost exactly as your 2019. A couple of questions: First on the Airtop 360. From looking at your video, your Airtop 360 just fits... did you go with the small version (130cm wide)? I was thinking about the medium (145cm) but wondered if it would be too wide for the top of the 4runner and hang off the sides. Second, I cannot get information from the Alpharex website whether or not the headlights will work on a 2021.... I'm assuming yes as nothing much changed between the 2020 and 2021. Do you have any insight?
Thanks Clinton! The Airtop 360 is small and went with it because it does fit perfectly. As for the Alpharex, the wiring may have changed slightly in 2021 because of the LED headlights. You can definitely call them for the right answers.
Love your 4Runner. I was going to get a TrD pro 2020, but looking at both your videos nvm now. Sorry but Roughly how much did it cost you to do all of this? Does it cost as much as getting a new trd pro. The 2020trd pro drive out like 58k-60k.
Sweet build, where you go for the film protection install? i am in SD as well, I wish someone should of told me about the cons of a black beauty, so hard to keep it clean and scratch free 😣
I mention it in the video at the beginning of that segment. You answer questions that Magnuson has on a form, they send you the modified tune files. You upload it to the tool included in the kit via OBDII port
One question about the airtop, when you close it can you leave all the blankets and pillows in there? Or do you have to take some stuff out before it closes.
This is killer, living the dream man. Definitely inspiring. Curious how long it took for you to progress from an office job, or home office, to being fully remote like this.
@@Outworld Yea I've definitely seen the increase in possibilities. I'm mainly building out my editing and video skills and building on my knowledge of the Adobe suite so I'm trying to grab any extra video editing work to get the ball rolling.
Awesome setup, I am looking for jump in myself sometime in the next few months. Looking at 4runners or possibly the new Bronco from ford. Which TRD 4Runner did you go for? The Pro is over $50k, but from what I can see, any TRD seems pretty competent for what I want to do. Not a rock climber guy, just want to be able to get to the cool spots. What do you do for showers and bathroom? Thanks for sharing your build.
Right on! Honestly I'm pretty basic about showers, dude wipes when I need them or just using a water jug I brought. Definitely something that can be improved with a waterport or similar i just need to figure out how to implement it correctly on the vehicle.
First off Amazing build! My question is I also have a Gobi Rack, what kind of mounting brackets did you use for your awning? I prefab mine now but looking for a more cleaner look. Great page also!!
Hey bud, nice job with the build and the video. I’m working on similar right now and love the goal zero vs a dual battery install. Is the product you chose for running charging the “yeti link car charging kit”? It seems to be temporarily discontinued unfortunately?
Do you manually change up how your frig is plugged in when driving around vs when you are parked/camped? When your driving around do you keep your Frig plugged into the Yeti Goal Zero and the Goal Zero plugged into your 4-Runner? When you are parked/camped do you have to change up the way you have the frig plugged in? Is your Frig power going through your SPOD at all?
I used to plug the fridge into the stock plug while driving then into the Goal Zero when parked, but it made no sense so now the fridge is on the Goal Zero all the time and just stop charging the GZ when I'm parked. Works like a charm.
"As for the engine bay, I kept it pretty simple.... but this is my supercharger" 😂😂😂😂

thanks for the video...I got super inspired and just purchased a 2021 TRD Offroad Premium 4runner and building it almost exactly as your 2019.
To do this exactly to spec would be roughly 80k before labor.
Great build! What size tent is that? Small or medium?
Sweet build, where you go for the film protection install? i am in SD as well, I wish someone should of told me about the cons of a black beauty, so hard to keep it clean and scratch free 😣
Haha I like torture, all of my trucks have been black. I went to 5 Point Auto Spa, their Carlsbad location. Their work was top notch.
I have a very close same build, I don’t have the super charger yet. What kind of mileage are you getting with the weight and the supercharger
Never heard of Goal Zero before. Interesting. Love the 4runner and your content. Subscribed!
Goal Zero is one of the innovators in the mobile power space. Their tech just keeps getting better and better.
Would you say Goal Zero is better than Jackery. I wanted the Jackery Explorer 2000 but now I'm having second thoughts.
Hey new to off-roading, why go yellow for the light bar and fogs?
Have you not way exceeded the max GVR on that vehicle?
This is the good vehicle for offroading trip and others
Oh man definitely gonna subscribe, keep up the good work 🔥🔥👍👍
Love this! Did you have to tune your computer for the supercharger? What was required exactly?
I mention it in the video at the beginning of that segment. You answer questions that Magnuson has on a form, they send you the modified tune files. You upload it to the tool included in the kit via OBDII port
Nice build man! What size wheels and tires are you running? And what’s the setback on the wheels?
I think I covered it in the video, but it's 35x1250s on 17x8.5 w/ 0 offset.
One question about the airtop, when you close it can you leave all the blankets and pillows in there? Or do you have to take some stuff out before it closes.
I can leave most of my stuff in there like a pillow and a couple of blankets. You're able to adjust the latch slightly to account for it.
@@Outworld ty so much for replying!!
@@MKG71 anytime!
amazing video! noticed your exhaust is not stock what exhaust do have you installed?
It is stock. If you saw the tailpipe it's just crushed from off roading haha
@@Outworld ahaha 😂
Clean build!
Can you drop the link/name of that secondary monitor?
Can you be more specific?

This is killer, living the dream man. Definitely inspiring. Curious how long it took for you to progress from an office job, or home office, to being fully remote like this.
There's been an uptick in remote possibilities the last few months. If it's sustainable depends on a lot.
@@Outworld Yea I've definitely seen the increase in possibilities. I'm mainly building out my editing and video skills and building on my knowledge of the Adobe suite so I'm trying to grab any extra video editing work to get the ball rolling.
@@Outworldwhat do you do to be able to afford this lifestyle

If you dont mind me asking, what do you do for a living that allows you to have remote worksites?
I run my own consulting venture.
Very nice setup! Thank you for sharing.
First off Amazing build! My question is I also have a Gobi Rack, what kind of mounting brackets did you use for your awning? I prefab mine now but looking for a more cleaner look. Great page also!!
Hey Richard, GOBI has a line of accessories that are made to fit the rack, including those awning brackets!
@@Outworld Great thanks!!
I have to check out the website. I've asked on the phone and didn't anything??? Thanks again. 👍🏼
@@richardsnation4609 I now work for GOBI, feel free to email me directly at weston@gobiracks.com
Duuuude such a sick build 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 absolute dream truck
Thanks dude!
Wondered if you use anything to cover the awning when working in bad weather?
I do have an awning room that zips in and covers, but the tent is my go-to if a storm rolls in.
Hey great video! Did you get a KDSS on your 5th gen??
just got my first car, a 4runner.... damn I wish it looked as good as yours
Keep on grinding space cowboy. You'll get it there eventually.
Hey bud, nice job with the build and the video. I’m working on similar right now and love the goal zero vs a dual battery install. Is the product you chose for running charging the “yeti link car charging kit”? It seems to be temporarily discontinued unfortunately?
Awesome build!!! Why did you choose a 4 runner over a Tacoma? I’m debating which one to get... thanks
I prefer SUVs and like that everything stored inside is safe from weather.
What model drawer is the one on the right? Is it flush with the wheel well?
Car inspections normally do not permit limo tint on driver windows. How do you pass department of motor vehicle inspections?
Millions do it and just risk the fix it ticket
