The Pilot Watch That Helped Save The World - 1 Year With My Greatest Omega - CK2292 Review & History
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 сен 2018
- Today's video is extra special. After over a year of ownership I discuss why my WW2 Omega CK2292 is not only the greatest Omega watch I have ever owned, but also one of the world's best pilot watches ever made.
I discuss its history in depth and look at how it compares to other more iconic Omega Pilot watches of its day. Where does it fit in next to the more lusted after waterproof CK2444 and the CK2129 watch that was famously worn by Tom Hardy in the epic Christopher Nolan directed movie Dunkirk? Why has the CK2292 lasted so long in my collection, unlike the many Seamasters and Speedmasters that have come and gone?
Join me on a rather personal, inspiring, and essential journey into a largely forgotten era that really was Omega's finest hour.

Excellent history lesson and Omega tribute. In my University class I teach that it is the Brits that won the war due to their fantastic development of critical technologies and strategies. Us Americans certainly helped, but the British resilience was key to it all.
Sorry chaps and chapettes, very slight error @7:39 These movements operated at 18,000 VPH. For some reason, that I can only attribute to my dyslexic brain, I said "eighteen hundred" and not "thousand". Not the first time I have done that. SMH.
Oh well, KBO!!! :D
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
I blame Hugo
So impressive that your Omega is still working after 70 odd years. That is one of the aspects I love about the hobby. Watches really give back to the wearer over time.
I'm an Omega fanatic myself but gosh, i've learned more watching this video then all my history classes at school haha! Great post as always!
That truly makes my day to hear that!
Thank you for sharing that, it inspires me no end.
Onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
Well done The Urban Gentry old boy. More of this please sir. The background sorting sounds matched the tone of your voice making this video easy to sink into and quickly find how fast 20 something minutes can fly. I can't imagine the research, preparation, practice, and editing this must have taken. This is amazing. I would love to have a series dedicating time to understand the history both styling as well as importance.
Thanks mate. Cheers!
The historical context surrounding the WW2 Omega CK2292 is incredibly interesting and important. Thank you for sharing. Well done, TGV.
Wow. This was an incredibley informative and artistic video. I loved the music in the background and all of the breathtaking photos shared in the video. Seriously good work. And the watch is so fantastic. Cheers!
Thank you so much :D
That is truly appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
The music is so soothing! What is the song/artist?
3 years later and I still come back to this video every once in a while. In my opinion, one of your best masterpieces for this channel, hands down.
Can't deny I was a little shocked when you announced you sold the watch after saying you'd own it until you "joined those spitfires in the skies", but well, I guess it's the collectors life, right?
Regarding me, I was also lucky to acquire a CK2292 for around 1k€ and I can't avoid feeling nostalgic every time I look at it. And I believe a lot of that has to do with this video of yours.
Congrats for still getting all of us hooked to your videos so many years later. I believe you're one of the greatest influences in keeping this hobby alive and in good health over the years.
I’ve owned one of these for about five years now. I had no idea there was only 3000! It’s by far my favourite watch in my collection and now I have more information I love it even more
The more of your videos I watch, the more I appreciate vintage pieces. A wonderful watch watch and a wonderful video. Thanks
I felt as if I were dropped into that time period! That is an absolutely gorgeous watch! I’ve always wanted a vintage piece, but I don’t think I’ll ever be that lucky to find one with that much history, and importance. Thank you very much for sharing this with us. I understand what that Omega means to you.
Awesome video. My grandpa was a pilot and his Omega, which my dad wore for most of my life and until the end of his, is the watch that got me into watches.
Tristiano,You do these historical pieces so well, they must be very time consuming to research and make.Very much appreciated.
To this date still one of your greatest episodes and stories Tristano. Incredible.
The most beautiful watch on TGV collection. This has been my fantasy ever since, to own a vintage watch with a genuine military provenance, even if it just be a Seiko but owning a WW2 timepiece is just priceless
That intro almost brought a tear to my eye...
Spitfire, Omega, the Few. Tears to my eyes. I inherited the 6b/542. Thanks for this, TGV.
Wow, the intro... Putting us in that time.... You can feel it. Historically correct. I have to pause to get into the horological impact of that time in history. The intro is just brilliant.
T, nobody is better at attaching the historic importance of these and other watches than you are. This is what adds life to these pieces, and provides a depth of appreciation to those of us who own them. The intangibles mean so much over and above simply "wearing a watch".
Absolutely smashing video! Thank you very much!
I have been listening to you a lot lately. And my wife listens to you passively as she does her own thing round the house. She doesn't care much for watches and the things i'm interested in. But, she just told me that she 'likes this guy' and I asked her why. She said because he seems intelligent and interesting, a proper gentleman when there are not many left anymore. I was very happy she said that as this is why I listen to you too.
I've just received from my long-time mate his Omega Deville Co-Axial GMT, Reference 4833.31.32
I couldn't be more thrilled. An amazing timepiece.
“We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.”
Lesser, cowardly men always acquiesce to evil and assault true leaders - they call them crazy; ill-equipped, drunkards, etc. It happened to Churchill, saw them do it to Reagan and Thatcher, and they’re still at it today.
Very interesting…nice RAF tribute TGV!
Beautiful video! After looking and lusting after countless Rolex's and Grand Seiko's when you described this little, unpretentious watch as having a soul I cried.
Amazing video TGV. Thanks for the history lesson. That little Omega deserves a little salute every day! It's a stunning piece of history.
Looking forward to the next one 👍. Regards,
Koen
Thank you TGV, hands down this is your best work yet. Educational and enjoyable👍😊🇮🇹🇬🇧
Ok I admit it. I got shivers from the intro. Surely your best yet!
The video is very informative and the presentation is flawless as usual TGV. A pleasure to watch as always.
Another cool video. Love the watch. Many thanks for sharing ! Still watching for inspiration!
TGV, you've outdone yourself once again. Superb production, loved the ending announcement!
Fantastic production, Thank you for sharing!
Special video indeed TGV. Well done, excellent presentation of not only the watch but the crucial role it played during a critical time in history. Thank you!
Of the 100+ videos of yours I have watched, this is probably my favorite. You are so good at illuminating the intersection of history, human interest, and watch appreciation. This is a perfect example of what you bring to the watch space so well that other mere "reviewers" don't. Keep up the good work!
Thanks,
Matt Harriss
Fantastic intro, TGV! I'm not even British, but it certainly created a sense of patriotism. Bravo!
I love this video! I'm a WW2 History fan and also a Dunkirk movie enthusiast. Appreciate that you maked this lovely effort for this video. Congratulations!
Really fascinating! I love the history of this watch. Thank you for your amazing presentation.
Amazing video and a wounderfull peace of history in your watch. Something to treasure.
Well......a very special thank you.
I thought that was wonderful, being heartfelt, genuine, interesting, authentic and just packed with excellent information. After my cup of tea I shall watch it again.
You keep upping your game and I thank you.
I loved the history of this watch, such a fascinating period. Another amazing video as always TGV!
Great story and history of this watch. I love the time and back story you put into describing the watches in your video. Top notch, well done, Sir.
Stunning intro Tristano. You are a master of the visual arts. Great job.
Thank you Andrew, extremely kind of you.
Best regards,
TGV
I am so grateful for this channel, I enjoy this so much. I hope you go on for donkeys. I actually ordered 3 watches and sold my Apple Watch, just because of this channel 😊
Thank you David, your comment was the first thing I saw this morning when I woke up.
It goes without saying, you started my day of with a big smile :D
Best regards,
TGV
Wow TGV, it was very emotional to hear you wax so beautifully poetic about this watch and the history behind it, and most importantly what it means to you. I'm so glad that this piece has remained in your collection given the visceral emotional connection that you so obviously share with it. Thank you for letting this video take the shape that it did.
Potentially my favourite of all your watches, keep up the good work as always TGV!
Without a doubt, one of the finest Videos l have ever seen. As an ex Spitfire pilot l was also issued with one of these. Unfortunately, as a result of a heavy 'Prang' l totally smashed it up.
TGV please take very good care of this watch as they meant so much to 'The Few' who are still alive today.
Great intro, Tristano, excellent video! Beautiful watch. Thanks very much.
Dave
TGV - You have such a great way of communicating your passion for wrist watches. This video is a perfect example of why we follow you years after years. One of your best, thanks for all the hard work, it's much appreciated. Cheers, Marc
Another awesome video TGV!!!!
Thank you so very much for another amazing video. I have found your channel two weks ago and have been bingewatching it!. It is a truly amazing hobby and you capture it beautifully!
And your sophistication and attitude towards live, conduct towards your fellow man is to be complimented and aspired to. To quote Marcus Aurelius: “Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.” And you do that.
Sincerely yours
Paul
Love the context. This is just another example of why watches are such important objects. They do tell history and have so much meaning to them. Superb content as always, Tristano.
I absolutely love it when we can talk watches and tell a story at the same time. Wonderful episode. Thank you TGV.
Great video! I'm glad that you're finally keeping one ;-) Hopefully, I'll get to see it in person soon! Cheers my friend!
I really like these videos where you bring history and story telling into it. Brings a deeper dimension to watches. Would like to see more vids like this. Also tied into design trends of an era
Love Omega and loved your review TGV, well done!
Great job. Love these historical videos. Makes you appreciate certain watch pieces even more. Thank you TGV!
The master of cool intros strikes again. Well done TGV. Very entertaining second review of the WWII Omega also. Cheers👍🏻👌🏻
One of your very best videos till date. Enjoyed every minute of it!
Everyone is talking about the intro (which is fantastic of course), but the outro is amazing as well! Thats a keeper! :)
Mr. TGV, I love your videos, but this one excelled in every single detail. I was thrilled.
Excellent video. I loved the last 10 second PSA
Nice video as always!
Last week I received my Seiko Giugiaro and Seiko Fligthmaster from Japan! Thanks for your advice!
Greetings from Chile.
Fantastic to hear, two such amazing watches, I hope they bring you as much enjoyment and happiness as they have for me.
Thank you for sharing that with me,
Best regards,
TGV
I throughly enjoy all the videos you make TGV, Bravo my friend! I can confidently say, it is because of you that my interest in watches grew and now I have long term goals of obtaining an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, a Rolex Explorer II or a Submariner or both who knows! :)
But I have discovered other amazing watches and brands that have such a huge horological history behind them like Seiko, Timex, Zeppelin, Hamilton and countless others and it just gives me such great satisfaction knowing that in each watch there's a piece of history that I'm holding and has its own special meaning. So thank you my friend for all your hard work! - AR
What a great video! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with this beautiful piece. And thanks for the historical and artistic work to create the video.
Pure love, fantastic video, very informative and you can feel the passion that goes into making it. Thank you! You are the person that inspires me and I'm starting to fall in love with watches!
Such a beautiful watch, but the best part of this video is the impeccable ambient music. Cheers sir!
Great vid, guys! This is why I love this channel.
This is a brilliantly compiled video. It's excellence like this that has earnt you 262k subscribers! Keep up your amazing work.
My deep respect to the few and all the others that saved us from barbarity. Omega is the best and proved it once again.
Great video again!
100% Gentry approved! I love it when we can incorporate history and horology.
Great video TGV! I have the same watch stamped HS8 as used by the Fleet Air Arm and issued in 1944. Of note, my case is a slightly different metal, as it was used in a marine environment. I also have spring bars fitted with a Hirsch leather strap. So easy to look like a dressy watch but the NATO looks great too! I too appreciate the people that would have worn this watch and the service they gave-if only the watch could talk. Don’t forget though it wasn’t just Omega and many other brands produced watches for the British and Commonwealth during WWII. Longines for example produced an almost identical watch to the Weems save for the movement. Jaeger LeCoultres version of the 6B/159 is gorgeous!
Great intro TGV as always, love the shots of the time enduring planes. The watches were respectable, but the history and story you presented to the Gentry are what kept me to the end. You have the touch and skill in telling a story. Spot on. You definitely do your homework. Keep up the excellent work. Until the next entry, all the best to you Sir. 👍
This video is the perfect combination of substance and style.
Amazing watch. Even more amazing story behind it. Great video, TGV! 😁
Thank you for another amazing video! I have been captivated with your channel since I discovered it, TGV, and you never fail to deliver high quality and class. Being a bit of a history nerd myself and having also served in the US military I love hearing about the things people don't consider, like watches, that made it possible for servicemembers to be successful in their missions. Thanks again for all of your hard work and inspiration, it is truly appreciated.
Extremely kind of you to say my friend.
Thank you not only for your motivational words but also your service. As you so rightly say, we tend to take these tools for granted, but so important!
Onwards and upwards my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
Love the ending. Inspired me to wear my smiths watch today.
I had to watch the intro again. Extremely well done. Impressive are your filmmaking skills.
I bought this exact watch for 950USD. This watch has captivated me and once it comes into my watchbox, this will be a family heirloom
thanks TGV, another wonderful historical timepiece and thanks for educating us (me specially) with regards to details of history, love it Sir.
Beautiful. Well done on the video
Thank you, TGV. You hit all the right notes with this one - respect and reverence. Bravo.
I am so glad David, thank you so much.
Onwards and upwards my friend.
Have a great rest of the weekend.
Best regards,
TGV
Best watch channel ever!!!! Love from Malaysia bruv ❤️
Thanks for the history lesson old boy. Great stuff :)
Thank you for sharing an amazing video!
Good old Omega. One of my favorite watch brands. Another magnificent video which truly show the beauty of vintage watches. Thank you Sir for your amazing videos and constant dedication to horology.
Wonderful video. Love the appreciation for history and culture.
Hi TGV,
Just found the channel a few days ago but I'm pretty sure I've already watched over 50 over your videos! Your knowledge and excitement for watches is incredible and I am inspired to start collecting myself. Probably going to start off with an SKX007. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend and looking forward to future content!
Thanks,
Kevin
Welcome aboard Kevin, that inspires me greatly and you are a gent for sharing that.
The SKX is the perfect place to start, and, well end too!
Thank you so much for sharing that and enjoy the journey into watches!
Best regards,
TGV
TGV has it real on this one guys, there were no PHONES these guys had to "check the time" in WW2 the DEPENDENCE on mechanical wristwatches (accuracy & reliability) was EPIC!!!
P.S. Same thing for Station Masters in the Railway business...
Beautiful video great job
Absolutely stunning, the history, the watch and the spitfire, i love all this. Congratulation for your watch !!!
I clumsily stumbled onto your channel as I am looking to buy a watch and want to buy with some kid of confidence as to the quality. I have been enamored with your videos (which are all done very well btw). I have even been taking numerous screen shots from your videos and through my searches online (through some of your store recommendations...thank you).
And now I see this wonderful (and yes heartwarming) tribute to something that stands as a symbol of English pride. I salute your passion, your resolve for tradition and for sharing your story and knowledge of this amazing time piece with your viewers. Continued success! Cheers
Gosh. This video makes me think you should be teaching a college course on Watches and Ww 2. It really extends into areas that non-watch people would find interesting.Such an affecting video and clearly a labor of love.
From what I've read, the Weems bezel was invented because watch movements were non-hacking at the time. It was not for timing minutes, but was instead to allow synchronizing to the second with another time source, e.g. radio signals. It became obsolete once hacking movements were available.
Fascinating, thank you for sharing. I loved how it was used in Dunkirk I must say!
Best regards,
TGV
Your outro is at least as great as the intro! Thank you for a lovely history of this special watch. My Dad was a Flight Engineer in USAAF during the war, so of course I second the motion for a version in honor of the Yanks. Lovely work as always, Cheers.
Another lovely introduction, very well edited with touching music! 💻📹🎵🎹
A fantastic history lesson on this 'classic' omega watch and narration on the subject! ⌚📚👍😀
Thank you my friend, very kind of you Anton.
It's my little bit on England on the wrist ;-)
Onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
So remarkably well done, researched and educational program for a remarkable and very special timepiece and piece of history. This was a rare and rewarding program - that I am very glad I got to see. Thanks so much - once again TGV for sharing with us. 👍
I wear my grandad's 1940s omega. He got his after rejoining civi street. Just a lovely thing to wear every day
Killer intro. You're the best!
Thank you my friend! :D
Onwards and upwards.
Best regards,
TGV
Great video TGV, what a great piece of history 😄
Thank you Michele!
Best regards
TGV
