The strange feels I had holding JFK's Omega Ultra-Thin (ref OT3980) in my hand
John F. Kennedy was a watch guy. He was rarely, if ever, sighted without one on. A personal favourite of his was this Omega Ultra-Thin ref OT3980 gifted to him by his friend and former Florida State Senator Grant Stockdale. When we visited Omega's headquarters in Bienne midway through last year, we were fortunate enough to be given a tour of the museum with a rare invitation to handle any watch that caught our eye. This was absolutely one of them.
How to describe the feeling of holding in your hand an object with the human detritus of JFK visible on the strap, around the lugs and so on? He wore this watch frequently. You can tell. It was oddly unsettling. Powerful. I go on after this experience to handle Elvis' watch, too. It wasn't the same experience. I can't advance any theories here, just an observation.
An interesting backstory of this watch, aside from my esoteric rambling, is that Stockdale engraved and gifted the watch to him the summer before the November election, such was his faith in JFK. In December of 2005, Omega purchased the watch at auction for $350,000USD. There's much more to the story, but we'll hand over the video here....

My dad, Grant Stockdale, gave this watch to Kennedy. The watch was spirited away by by his secretary Evelyn Lincoln after the assassination and given to a man who had no connection to Kennedy or my father. My father was murdered 10 days after Kennedy. I believe this man who got the watch died and his wife sold it for $250,000. My mother was in a financial bind with two young children still at home and could certainly used part of this money. No-one ever contacted her.I feel that Omega should have contacted her. The watch did not belong to the woman who sold it.

What a beautiful story! See this is why non-watch people can never understand, It's about the sheer elegance and sophistication behind a piece. The tradition, the unbroken lineage... only the few may experience the fullness and oneness of the watch journey. Thank you for this lovely video. Regards, from a fellow watch snob, G.

And there you have it! The man that stopped nuclear MAD between Russia and the West sported a tiny watch. His brains and balls didn't need a dinner plate strapped to his wrist. He oozed charisma . Great insight and video.Cheers.

A watch doesn't tell time, it tells a man's story.

I always thought that JFK wore a Cartier Tank, didn't know that it was an Omega. Does Omega have any model similar to his one today? Wonder why they are not re-issue it....

I would love to have the chance to hold that watch, knowing it was once on Mr. Kennedy's wrist.

why do people say "feels" in this context?
it really winds me up that you cannot just say "feelings".

Grant Stockdale died by falling from the 13th floor of a hospital only the month after JFK was murdered. No suicide note was found.
There is a picture of Stockdale and JFK visiting the graves of James Forrestal, another man who fell to his death from above 72 feet [CIA manual for effective height to kill] from a hospital after being admitted for 'depression' and having visitors refused by the white coats.
I'll leave all of you to think on who could possibly have wanted all 3 men dead and what they all shared in common.

That goes on to tell you that real men wear their watches yachting, etc, but today’s idiots wear 30atm watches to have peace of mind washing their hands and diving into 1.5m deep pools... Christ...
