I gave my son his first Automatic Dive Watch for his 13th Birthday, a Citizen Promaster NY0040 - A welcome to manhood present. He looked at me and proudly said, "It's just like yours Dad!"
TGV - I want to say thank you for sharing your passion for Horology and inspiring me and my son.
That just made my day. Your son should be proud to have such a great father.
A very classy and dare I say, PERFECT choice. I feel rather emotional after reading that!
Thank you so much for sharing that and continuing the tradition.
Onwards and upwards, and I wish you and your son be best of regards,
TGV
ssazerac superb! That’s brilliant. My 4 year old daughter is loving my watch collection and appears to be fascinated with them at the moment. Whenever I get my cases out she’s there looking at them 😁. I’ve started letting her decide which watch daddy wears today 😜😁
poor kid what a hideous watch
Not cool. You wouldn't like it if a stranger said that about a watch you loved.
Thanks VRSmert! I can't think of a better way to start the day than have my little girl pick out my watch for me.
This is more like a video teaching you how to be a better person in life. It just shows that you approach your hobby in the same way as you should approach life in order to love it. Thanks for this video.
totally agree!
Well said TGV, well said Sion. TGV thank you for all the videos.
“Horology is not necessary luxury”. Can’t be more true. If people can see cooking simple food as hobby, why can’t they see horology as hobby and simple pleasure without branding and status making things so serious and complicated?
Absolutely. I think Tristano succinctly stated that we are all in this group for the same reasons, and we should treat each other with due respect.
Agree 100%!
I normally don’t leave comments but I love how positive this message is. Getting tired of hearing about all the negative things in the world. It’s refreshing to hear another person preaching positivity. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Salva,
I could not agree more about all the negativity, it is so pointless.
Best regards,
TGV
This video isn't about watch collecting. It's about life. You present a philosophy of life more than watch collecting TGV.
I am very honored, thank you sir.
Onwards and upwards.
Best regards,
TGV
I appreciate your use of your platform. It's not all about watches, it's about being a better person. A bit personal to ask, but do you consider yourself a religious person?
At 18:06 he nails it...
My first automatic watch was a Citizen promaster, a gift from my father after I graduated 10th grade. It’s 5 years old now and it has become a part of me. A day doesn’t go by without it being on my wrist. I have worn it on hikes in the hills of China, to the streets of Paris and Singapore. I know the scratches on it like the back of my hand. Now I am a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering and I appreciate its 21 jewelled movement even more. What a precision machine. ❤️❤️
What a truly priceless story.
Treasure it and I hope you continue to build new memories with it.
Thank you for sharing that,
Best regards,
TGV
I hadn't worn a watch since a G-Shock in High School and found myself in need of one for work purposes. In starting to research a good watch to buy, I immediately came across your channel. After watching several of your videos my interest in horology was quickly ignited again. I bought another G-Shock and my first auto, an SNK809 and it was off to the races. I'm now 14 watches in and loving it. Keeping all your advice given here and in previous videos, I've once again found a very personally fulfilling hobby and I dare say a good group of friends. Thank you so much for your contributions, sir. Onwards and upwards!
All the best,
Justin
So glad to hear Justin, especially coming from, one of my most valued Gentry and commentator.
The SNK809 is such a great choice, pure class my friend.
Onwards and upwards,
Best regards,
TGV
Wow 14 already, kinda went nuts
You're the man, Justin!
That lesson “if you haven’t got anything good to say then don’t say it”. I have heard it before and never really paid much attention to it but the way you described it as been polite and well mannered has made me realise that is what I should do. Thank you for teaching me this I will never forget it
I love your humble, positive and compassionate outlook on life! I would love to meet more men who think like you to.
A few years ago I discovered this channel and stayed for the watches , and the truth is that it wasn’t the watches that made me a fan over the years, it was the respect, the culture and the history . This are not tips to be a better collector but rather how to be a better person. Ciao Tristano
Thank you Rafael, I deeply appreciate that.
I don't know what else to say, but thank you.
Onwards and upwards.
Best regards,
TGV
You are not a guru. You know what you are? You are a teacher. A teacher who inspires your students to learn with you and this is the best way to do 👍. The joy of teaching is to go the way together. I say that as a fellow teacher even if my subject is not horology 😉 , you are welcome, Sir.
You are too kind, I did not know your were a teacher so I am very flattered.
I am very glad to have you with us, thank you.
Best regards,
TGV
As an educator, I also think that tgv is a teacher in the modern sense, using the modern media (eg. RUclips) vs the traditional media (eg. Lecture notes/slides). With the advancement of technology and unprecedented availability of knowledge/reserouces, it is widely accepted that the new definition of teacher/lecturer/educator within my circle is the "FACILITATOR OF LEARNING EXPERIENCE". It's no longer about how much u know, how much u talk in your lecture and how much u can impress others of your knowledge.
I know the reviews are your bread and butter but I really appreciate that you pause from time to time to spread this advice. The calm, empathetic, curiosity you're encouraging for this hobby raises your channel above the typical internet noise. 👏
I am flattered and humbled, thank you so much for the kind words.
Onwards and upwards,
Best regards,
TGV
My dad got me my first watch at 15 and I loved it for years. It was a Seiko that unfortunately as I got older, I started to feel slightly inferior when going to posh places. Thank you TGV for getting my confidence back and proud to wear my Seiko anywhere.
What a lovely honest review big T! It’s so refreshing to hear your positive thoughts...
Big love from the mother land, UK Wales
Best wishes
Tom
You don’t teach us only about watches, you teach us about values that unfortunately sometimes we don’t remember anymore. That is why your channel is growing so fast, and will keep doing it.
Thanks
Positively UPLIFTING and brilliant video!!! Thank you so much, TGV.
I have been fortunate to have wandered into your channel a few days ago. Your message, knowledge and passion are an absolute standout. Thank you and keep doing what you are doing!
Thank you and welcome aboard!
Best regards,
TGV
Great video Tristano as always! You touched on some great points. Your #3 point really hit home with me. When I first got into the hobby I was obsessed with the accuracy of the watch. After a year or two I started to relaxed and realized that it’s not about that. There’s SO much more to enjoy in this hobby. Now, I still have some issues to work through about watches but it’s a step in the right direction lol
I just have to give credit where credit is due tgv has over 10,000 subscribers yet he finds enough time in his day to like and respond to our comments in the comment section and you can tell that he doesn't just answer to answer he gives you a full and in-depth reasoning behind his thought and for that I just want to say thank you.
Well this comment aged well! I think TGV will hit a million subscribers soon and might be the biggest watch channel on RUclips.
I like how the governor knows what is metal gear solid but need a second thought of the word emoji.
Perpetual learning is one of the greatest things about being alive! These are great tips for all collectors, whether they're just starting out or have been at it for years. Keep doing what you do, TGV!
I am so glad to hear that. I would expect nothing less Katrina.
Thank you so much, you motivate me knowing you are with us!
Onwards and upwards.
Best regards,
TGV
I love watches because they not only tells the time but gives a little bit of character to who’s whearing it, and it tells a little about their personality and background.
Very true indeed. Spot on.
Thank you for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
I'm just speechless. At first i thought it is due to my lack of English skill but i think even in my native language it will be struggle for me to explain how impressed i am with your video. I think I've never saw such universal and positive, full of joy and passion advices, which can be applied both in hobby but also in everyday life, work etc anywhere else on YT. We, people who felt in love with horology are just so lucky to have you with us, spreading both your love but also positive attitude while sharing passion with every other hobbyists. Thank you sir for your work and congratulations on your anniversary 200k! I am sure it is just the beginning of the journey even though your achievements are already great!
An absolute pleasure my friend.
Your comment has made me profoundly happy.
Thank you so much,
Best regards,
TGV
I love this video. TGV thank you so much! Everyone should watch this and learn from you!
So glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you :D
Best regards,
TGV
Great TGV!!
Fantastic video as usual.
Congrats for the 200k subs. Well deserved!
Now, greetings from Portugal.
Thank you Phelipe!!!
Fantastic to hear from Gentry in the land of Ferdinand Magellan (who I briefly mentioned in the video).
Best regards,
TGV
What I love about TGV is the humanitarian side of his horological compassion, how he respects others and never underestimate people for what they wear, he never say a "shitter watch" like many others supposed watch enthusiasts on RUclips, Thank you TGV for being a watch enthusiast and a gentleman at the same time. Outstanding episode 👍
This is the best watch channel on youtube. Humble, intelligent, and articulate. It is an honor to share in this hobby with such an insightful gentleman. Cheers.
Truly waiting for you on Teds talks
Hands down, my favorite video to date. Great job, TGV!
Wow.. great show mate !
TGV - you've definitely helped guide me on my [watch] path/interest/hobby.. and it's a path I'm really enjoying..
Cheers
Great video, one of the best on your channel! Thanks for sharing, so positive!
Why didnt you say it made your day! i'm a 20 year old college student who went from buying watches as strictly fashion accessories, to buying them for their history and craftsmanship. 100% because of you. Not strictly from the information you provide, but from the character you exude. A big inspiration for me both in horology and as a character. thank you!
Glad you made a video about this because watches are not just of materialistic value. To really enjoy a watch is dependent on the wearer, and what his or her perception on life is and you explained it extremely well. That's why I like this channel, not just about watches but how to be a decent human being. Your watch compliments you not the other way around. Who you are depends on your way of thinking and who you ought to become and people will always remember you for that where ever you go :)
Absolutely perfectly articulated.
Working as an instore watch repairer i constantly see customers with there newly purchases timepieces, whether they be a casio digi, a armani fashion watch, or a jeagre le coultre i always compliment them on the choice. Always creates big smiles and conversation even by people who havent much care for their choice. And its always nice to see people enjoying the hobby.
And i totally agree that we need to be aware how lucky we all are.
🙏🏻
Terrific video!
I’ve been watching your videos for the past few months and it’s inspired me to start a small collection. I love deciding each morning what watch I’ll be wearing for the day.....thank you TGV!

You greatly helped me get into watches and I'm glad I can enjoy these.
Once again great inspirations and perspectives! 💪🚀 Thx TGV!
Thank you Sebastian,
Very much appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you for this inspiring post which was absolutely brilliant!
Amazing video and soo many truths contained within it. Top work Gentry!
Refreshing video TGV! I just started getting into watches rather recently and I have been guilty at times of some of the things you’ve touched on. You sir are a class act and great person to learn from. Appreciate it sir!
I just love your enthusiasm and humility. I was feeling a little down today but after watching this I feel far more optimistic. It means a lot. Thanks.
Really enjoyed the video TGV, you are the best. Your words and your whole message is unique and, oh so appreciated. Cheers,
One of best video I have watched! Thanks for Bringing that positive note everytime! 😉
Thanks so much for making this video. Actually for making ALL your videos, but this one resonated with me greatly. Your channel is inspiring.
This video mentions the satisfaction of giving and for me, I couldn't agree more.
I gave my fiancé a Junghans Max Bill as a birthday present, my 7 year old nephew a Casio DataBank, last year I gifted my sibling a Seiko Cocktail as his first auto, more recently a Hamilton Interstellar to my best man and even gave away my own SKX to my father when one day I heard him mentioned he wanted a rugged waterproof watch to take fishing.
I own a small modest collection myself, nothing crazy but I get so much satisfaction on sharing the Hobbie with my loved ones.
Congratulations TGV. By far this is your best video ever! Thank you chap!
I bought my son at 13 his first Seiko Chronograph and then went to the jeweler to have it sized, it was his introduction to wearing a proper timepiece. He will get my growing collection after I am gone and he will see the scratches from years of wearing them. I let people wear my Rolex and enjoy watching them look at it on their wrist, having a Rolex on for the first time. I love my new Seiko Turtle diver and explained to my son the history of Seiko and they take a backseat to nobody. Being from CT I picked up a Timex Waterbury chrono and love it for the history.
This was one of my favorite vids from you sir, as a 52 year old you are wise beyond your years.
Beautiful video TGV, making a difference in many levels.
TGV Wow. What an inspirational video. Your best yet. Changed my mindset. Thank you.
Incredibly insightful as always, TGV. Thank you for continuing to spread positivity and your knowledge of this hobby. I'm so glad my friends showed me your channel just as I was getting an interest in watches. Onward and upward!
Fantastic vid this Tristano …really really good 👌 thank you 🤜🤛
The true beauty of Tristano and his channel is that he transcends all superficiality. This gentleman is giving out lessons about watches, but also about life and its finite nature. And he does so with such passion, elegance and eloquence! Thank you for your contribution, you're a beacon of light in this dark world.
That was awesome! Thank you for the wisdom 👍😊
This was an amazing video. Thanks for sharing this man.
I watched this video the other day when you posted it and I wanted to comment but something came up just as I was about to type. In my opinion this has been one of your greatest videos, not just for the amazing content as always but just for your honesty in relation to being a decent human being. These practices that you mention can be applied to everything we do in life which is sometimes overlooked in this crazy, fast paced world we live in today. I could spend hours replying to this video as I just enjoyed it so so much but I just want to say that your words are very inspiring and i know that I as well as many people around the world enjoy your content so much. Keep up the great work mo chara 🙏
Thank you Kieran, especially for the insightful feedback and kind words.
I am very glad to have you with us.
Onwards and upwards my friend!
Best regards,
TGV
my dad has recently given me a 17 year old certina ds watch, and it made me so happy. when a watch reminds you of someone you love when you look at it, nothing else is more worth it in my oppinion :)
Kudos to you my bro...Just revitalized my interest in my watches collection lately after slowing down for 25ys...Thanks to you, i"m adding to my watch collection gradually and more importantly, I'm enjoying my variety of watches with an open mind. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This might be the most wholesome thing I have ever seen in my life. Truly inspiring to just get out and enjoy all of what life has to offer (even the magic lever of the 7S26)
Awesome vids man, keep up the good work!
That s why I’m watching you. Thanks a lot. Im very happy to know you Tristano.
Greetings, Robert
perfect video mate everything your speaking about is 110% right love this
TGV-
I’m a late comer to your channel but a watch enthusiast since my first Casio in 1983. Your life messages are so appropriate and pertinent in the current environment. I’m 48 years old with a 12 year old son. I plan to pass along my Rolex Sub to him someday with all the little scratches and dings of a life lived....but I’m making him watch this episode now. The building blocks of becoming a responsible human being and gentleman take root in early adolescence. Bravo. Keep posting.
Great video TGV, enjoyed watching it ⌚️⏱👍🍾🥂
Congratulations on 200k subs, TGV - Truly amazing to have seen this channel come up from it's beginnings. Good health to you.
We needed this video. Grazie Tristano!
I really like these types of videos you do... because there are life lessons wrapped up in them. Good job.
I love the message you're spreading. Thank you for sharing! You're a real class act.
Class act TGV. Thank you for drawing me back into collecting.
You are a breath of fresh air! I always enjoy your channel and look forward to your posts. Keep up the great enthusiastic passion!
Great video, thanks for all you do!
Great video. Really loved the deep thoughts you put in.:)
Best video I believe you have ever made my friend. Very very well said.
I have been a wearer of watches for quite some time and have just recently purchased my first luxury watch. I spent a number of months researching and saving for this piece and have purchased a Breitling Transocean Day-Date. I truly have enjoyed sharing my love of watches with others and learning over the years. It gives me great pride to enjoy this hobby and wear something I truly adore. Thank you for your wonderful advice and I couldn’t agree more, personally.
Just wanted to thank you for all the energy and effort you put in your videos. Every single one is more than educational. It seems like you are on a mission to make good man better.
Well said!
4 things I love about watches:
1. Aesthetics- for guys especially it is an excuse to have an item of beauty on their person!
2. Mechanics - the wonder of a mechanical watch mechanism and feeling that it is almost like a living thing packed into a such a tiny space.
3. Appreciating the artistry and time and thought that is gone into a good quality watch - eg even with my £50 Seiko SNK809 it feels like a lot of enthusiasm and care has gone into the design, then of course at the other end of the scale you have the likes of George Daniels, Roger Smith and Philippe Dufour, to name but a few, whose achievements in horology are breathtaking.
4. It is an entrance into a whole new community of enthusiasts and wonderful channels like this one!
Man, this was great! Some really good advice here. Thanks governor
Thanks for sharing the words of wisdom, TGV. Easily your best, most significant show yet. Horophile or not, the topic is universal, and people outside of our community that I’ve shared it with have appreciated it, too. Onwards and upwards, indeed!
Always appreciating your approach to this hobby
Love these philosophy shows! Keep em coming, T.
Another fantastic video on life, happiness & watches... Much kudos TGV
Great video TGV!!
I absolutely love this, thank you. While all the other watch channels are just making response videos to what is happening in Basel you are making something truly special.
Thank you for the upbeat message. We need far more of that far beyond the world of watches. As for watches, they are a tangible connection to history and memory, and perhaps a small way to pass along something of ourselves. Keep up the great work!
Great video! Awesome message.
A wonderful attitude towards watch collecting (which, we should never forget, is ultimately only a hobby) and life in general. Thank you.
This is such an important message, TGV. I really hope people can embrace what you have said here. It will help them enjoy watch collecting - and life - much more. Thanks for what you do.
This production is what puts your channel above the others, motivating and inspiring in all aspects of life. What a comprehensive content!! Thanks TGV you are a true Guv'nor!!
This video was much more than just one about watches... So inspiring words, TGV! This episode should be watched many, many times for each follower. Be proud of this one, my friend! Your words will be echoed in my mind for sure!
I’m new to this hobby and I’m learning a lot from your channel. I also share the same feelings with you. That was a great episode,, thank you so much for that !
Congrats on the 200k subs
Great video as always, thanks TGV! "Enjoy what you have" - so true! I am still so in love with my Seiko SKX007K1, it´s incredible! :D I love changing Nato straps daily, enjoy the search for new straps (although it always kinda hurts me at the checkout ;-D). I also love seeing my little collection grow other time ... currently 5 watches (Seiko, Citizen, Casio, Junghans). And most importantly of course I love each one of them wearing. :-)
I deeply respect you for your philosophies and your humbleness in not judging others and not looking down on people. That is truly a mind of a great gentleman. Thank you and SALUTE.
Thank you TGV, so charismatic... you have taken me with you on your crusade for more than two years now
Has to be one of your best video posts - well done. Learned a lot.
An inspired and inspirational video TGV - Thanks for this!
Big fan of the channel. Just getting back into watches after my Timex broke a few years ago. I’ve only bought two watches in my life and the recent one was inspired by your channel. I went with the Orient Kamasu with the blue dial on sale. I’ve also been very carefully selecting the strap. It’s been wonderful to research my second watch and really take my time getting something I’ll enjoy without spending too much money. I’ve maybe watched a hundred watch videos in the last month many of them yours, it’s been a wonderful journey. And I’m excited to see where it leads me. You must always be open to let new passions enter your life.
Thanks for your channel and the way you share your passion.
Great video TGV. I am always elevated by your insights.
Bravo sir! Thanks for the great video and a reminder to always be the best and kindest version of ourselves which we all struggle to do. 👍🏽💪🏽🥃 Keep up the great work, Excelsior!
I agree with everything, heard towards watches yet so true in everyday life. Great words of wisdom.
Thank you Njama, very much appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
