I gave my son his first Automatic Dive Watch for his 13th Birthday, a Citizen Promaster NY0040 - A welcome to manhood present. He looked at me and proudly said, "It's just like yours Dad!"
TGV - I want to say thank you for sharing your passion for Horology and inspiring me and my son.

That just made my day. Your son should be proud to have such a great father.
A very classy and dare I say, PERFECT choice. I feel rather emotional after reading that!
Thank you so much for sharing that and continuing the tradition.
Onwards and upwards, and I wish you and your son be best of regards,

ssazerac superb! That’s brilliant. My 4 year old daughter is loving my watch collection and appears to be fascinated with them at the moment. Whenever I get my cases out she’s there looking at them 😁. I’ve started letting her decide which watch daddy wears today 😜😁

“Horology is not necessary luxury”. Can’t be more true. If people can see cooking simple food as hobby, why can’t they see horology as hobby and simple pleasure without branding and status making things so serious and complicated?

Absolutely. I think Tristano succinctly stated that we are all in this group for the same reasons, and we should treat each other with due respect.

My first automatic watch was a Citizen promaster, a gift from my father after I graduated 10th grade. It’s 5 years old now and it has become a part of me. A day doesn’t go by without it being on my wrist. I have worn it on hikes in the hills of China, to the streets of Paris and Singapore. I know the scratches on it like the back of my hand. Now I am a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering and I appreciate its 21 jewelled movement even more. What a precision machine. ❤️❤️

I hadn't worn a watch since a G-Shock in High School and found myself in need of one for work purposes. In starting to research a good watch to buy, I immediately came across your channel. After watching several of your videos my interest in horology was quickly ignited again. I bought another G-Shock and my first auto, an SNK809 and it was off to the races. I'm now 14 watches in and loving it. Keeping all your advice given here and in previous videos, I've once again found a very personally fulfilling hobby and I dare say a good group of friends. Thank you so much for your contributions, sir. Onwards and upwards!
    All the best,

You are not a guru. You know what you are? You are a teacher. A teacher who inspires your students to learn with you and this is the best way to do 👍. The joy of teaching is to go the way together. I say that as a fellow teacher even if my subject is not horology 😉 , you are welcome, Sir.

As an educator, I also think that tgv is a teacher in the modern sense, using the modern media (eg. RUclips) vs the traditional media (eg. Lecture notes/slides). With the advancement of technology and unprecedented availability of knowledge/reserouces, it is widely accepted that the new definition of teacher/lecturer/educator within my circle is the "FACILITATOR OF LEARNING EXPERIENCE". It's no longer about how much u know, how much u talk in your lecture and how much u can impress others of your knowledge.

Great video Tristano as always! You touched on some great points. Your #3 point really hit home with me. When I first got into the hobby I was obsessed with the accuracy of the watch. After a year or two I started to relaxed and realized that it’s not about that. There’s SO much more to enjoy in this hobby. Now, I still have some issues to work through about watches but it’s a step in the right direction lol

Glad you made a video about this because watches are not just of materialistic value. To really enjoy a watch is dependent on the wearer, and what his or her perception on life is and you explained it extremely well. That's why I like this channel, not just about watches but how to be a decent human being. Your watch compliments you not the other way around. Who you are depends on your way of thinking and who you ought to become and people will always remember you for that where ever you go :)

This video mentions the satisfaction of giving and for me, I couldn't agree more.
I gave my fiancé a Junghans Max Bill as a birthday present, my 7 year old nephew a Casio DataBank, last year I gifted my sibling a Seiko Cocktail as his first auto, more recently a Hamilton Interstellar to my best man and even gave away my own SKX to my father when one day I heard him mentioned he wanted a rugged waterproof watch to take fishing.
I own a small modest collection myself, nothing crazy but I get so much satisfaction on sharing the Hobbie with my loved ones.

I bought my son at 13 his first Seiko Chronograph and then went to the jeweler to have it sized, it was his introduction to wearing a proper timepiece. He will get my growing collection after I am gone and he will see the scratches from years of wearing them. I let people wear my Rolex and enjoy watching them look at it on their wrist, having a Rolex on for the first time. I love my new Seiko Turtle diver and explained to my son the history of Seiko and they take a backseat to nobody. Being from CT I picked up a Timex Waterbury chrono and love it for the history.
This was one of my favorite vids from you sir, as a 52 year old you are wise beyond your years.

I have been a wearer of watches for quite some time and have just recently purchased my first luxury watch. I spent a number of months researching and saving for this piece and have purchased a Breitling Transocean Day-Date. I truly have enjoyed sharing my love of watches with others and learning over the years. It gives me great pride to enjoy this hobby and wear something I truly adore. Thank you for your wonderful advice and I couldn’t agree more, personally.

    Well said!
4 things I love about watches:
    1. Aesthetics- for guys especially it is an excuse to have an item of beauty on their person!
    2. Mechanics - the wonder of a mechanical watch mechanism and feeling that it is almost like a living thing packed into a such a tiny space.
    3. Appreciating the artistry and time and thought that is gone into a good quality watch - eg even with my £50 Seiko SNK809 it feels like a lot of enthusiasm and care has gone into the design, then of course at the other end of the scale you have the likes of George Daniels, Roger Smith and Philippe Dufour, to name but a few, whose achievements in horology are breathtaking.
    4. It is an entrance into a whole new community of enthusiasts and wonderful channels like this one!

Thanks for sharing the words of wisdom, TGV. Easily your best, most significant show yet. Horophile or not, the topic is universal, and people outside of our community that I’ve shared it with have appreciated it, too. Onwards and upwards, indeed!

Thank you for the upbeat message. We need far more of that far beyond the world of watches. As for watches, they are a tangible connection to history and memory, and perhaps a small way to pass along something of ourselves. Keep up the great work!

Great video as always, thanks TGV! "Enjoy what you have" - so true! I am still so in love with my Seiko SKX007K1, it´s incredible! :D I love changing Nato straps daily, enjoy the search for new straps (although it always kinda hurts me at the checkout ;-D). I also love seeing my little collection grow other time ... currently 5 watches (Seiko, Citizen, Casio, Junghans). And most importantly of course I love each one of them wearing. :-)

Big fan of the channel. Just getting back into watches after my Timex broke a few years ago. I’ve only bought two watches in my life and the recent one was inspired by your channel. I went with the Orient Kamasu with the blue dial on sale. I’ve also been very carefully selecting the strap. It’s been wonderful to research my second watch and really take my time getting something I’ll enjoy without spending too much money. I’ve maybe watched a hundred watch videos in the last month many of them yours, it’s been a wonderful journey. And I’m excited to see where it leads me. You must always be open to let new passions enter your life.
