1- Try counter balancing when turning, its very effective. 2- Riding beyond your ability or dangerously was called the "red mist". 3- In Victoria the biggest obstacles on the roads are the roads themselves, potholes and lumps that will take a bike out are commonplace and random. 4- Well done for having the guts to address this with facts, nuff said. 5- Used to be Volvo drivers but anything being driven by a dysfunctional human will pose a threat.
Great points Aymen. Every ride for me is a learning ride. I've ridden solo for eons (40 years) and now that I'm riding with the Dandenong HOG's my skills have risen considerably, and funnily enough riding is so much more enjoyable. I do still enjoy solo, buts that's to get me there and back - safely. Cheers.
Good video! Agree with all of your points. Always ride to your skill level and if you’re not familiar with the route you’re taking, don’t go as hard as you would on a route you know.
Interesting video! Here in the UK the official Government slogan is "Speed Kills" which physically isn't true. Speeding in inappropriate circumstances is the problem. The Authorities put low speed limits on open country roads along with dozens of cameras and earn themselves a fortune in fines.
Aymen being in aviation for 34 years and working with instrumentation and gyros, when you push left or right you experience gyroscopic precession on your front tire the applied force is always 90degrees ahead which helps you turn,we use to have a saying on gyros you tilt it turns ,you turning it tilts.my fat boy has big tires and l experience this alot when turning. it also adds some stability when riding straight ahead.
Starting to ride again after many years. Just bought new HD. These videos are helpful and much appreciated. I know I have forgotten more than I remembered.
yeah ...i only got into riding 45 yrs ago because i wrote off my car and my boss offered his 125 for sale so i could get to work...the bug bit hard and i was hooked, so i didnt get into bikes to go fast..Dont bother with speed any more after losing licence six months $2300 fine then got licence back and got done 20 kays over on my shovel$440 fine. I recently did a four day 760 kay ride around the back roads of the western slopes NSW on my shovel. I stayed between 90-100 kays , and smelled the roses ( and the roadkill😅 ) What its all about is chilling out on the upstairs verandah of a country pub in a town without a Maccas or KFC drinking an ice cold beer with your biking mates and surviving to ride the next day....take care and ride safe👍
Thank you Aymen, all top advice. I use counter steering and also my hips🙂. Seen numerous riders in Tassie over estimating their capabilities in the twisties, several of them ending up in accidents. Cornering correctly is an essential skill. Group rides are a different beast than riding solo that’s for sure😂 ( disappointed I missed you at yesterday’s ride ) Ride safe, you always give positive food for thought 💕
Thanks Claire, same re hips, i often don't need to counter steer as I'm 110 kg so i can often just move my hips and the big bike turns easy but i try and maintain the habit cause when you are going faster its more important.
Other drivers /riders indulge in illicit substances,where I live plenty of evidence of broken street lights and road signs ,I also commute to work by bicycle via rural roads ,I occasionally come across road kill ,I pull it off the road when safe to do so.
Hey Aymen, great vid mate. I've given exactly the same advice to alot of new novice motorcyclist almost word for word lol. You can give all the advice I've found however, it's bum in seat where people will build skill and knowledge on the roads, not leaving the bike under a cover for 6 months. Love your stuff bro😎👊💪👍
You nailed no:4, id ad thought do an 'experiment' in a car - cruise on a hwy at 10 or 20c over and see fuel economy increase 3 to 5 or more litres per 100km range, More Fuel Used = More Fuel Tax

Great video mate. You make a lot of valid points about whats going on around you and others whilst riding motorcycles. I believe that most of the time a certain level of ignorance and attitudes towards riders on the public's part is a huge contributor to making riding dangerous. Experience goes a long way and that is something as the old saying goes...." You can't put old heads on young shoulders!". I see it constantly where I live and no amount of guidance or suggestion seems to change attitudes. But....here's to hope! Enjoy the ride, be safe and look out for your own skin! 😎
I feel braking and throttle control cause most crashes. Having confidence in your tyres and controlling the fear of a bike squirrelling around under you is paramount. A lot of the time braking will cause a crash if you hit diesil or hydroplane in rain. Understanding engine braking by manipulating the throttle is paramount to keeping out of hospital. New riders do one course and think thats all they need. You are learning every ride and should actively seek out more education and skills. Im a 45 year veteran of riding on the streets. And I still enroll in riding courses.
Hi Aymen, Good vid. The counter steer part was......ar.........um. The rest excellent. Part 4 cops, My summons to court just showed up an hour ago. I will defend my self because I have an issue with people who cannot be pragmatic and lawyers are a rip off in traffic/court situations. Being clear of other traffic might be why I got a summons, I do not like being behind Utes, boats being towed, trucks & any kind of trailer, the amount of "stuff" that comes off these classes of road users is horrendous. Qld transport actually have some good road strategy vids with famous riders so they have some credibility...
You forgot Visibility ! Most accidents occur when cars pull out in front of MCs. Black Bike - Black Clothing - Black Helmet. Look's Cool but Motorists don't see/look for Black !
Yeah everyone told me motorcycles were dangerous. I didn't listen. About 45ish years ago. I bought my first bike when I was 18. How hard could it be? Who needs a license anyway? I'd ridden a bicycles for years. Why would you bother to read all that boring highway code bollocks? So I picked it up and took of like I stole it. I learned how to brake when I almost hit a little old lady on a crosswalk on the way home. Scared the shit out of her. I almost went over the bars, but not quite. I missed her by at least a couple of inches. I never heard of counter steering, target fixation or anything else believing in my invincibility, ability to ride like Barry Sheen and almost a couple of months experience. I crashed quite spectacularly, It took me almost a year to save up for another bike. After riding a bike a couple more years without a license. I did get a drivers license, 3 days later. I rolled my dads car. He never ever let me drive his car again. It took me a while to save up and by my own. The best way to avoid hazards on a motorcycle. Get properly trained how to ride it. I continued to be a major road safety hazard for quite a few years.
Karen’s! You forgot Karen! I’ve had more than one middle aged white, short haired woman go out of her way to block, slam brakes, pinch in lanes and other general Karen behavior. There seems to be a lot of them in the suburbs
being American and arould before Nixon I can tell you ,you have bad info on speed limits in America . since there were cars there have been speed limits. Now the early 70's there was a reduction in what they were, for instance where i live four lane hwys went from 70 to 50. thats also when they started with the one way streets, at least near me. Also many talk about " counter steering witch i find ridiculous as anybody who's ever road a bicycle should already understand the concept and its impossible to ride a motorcycle over 10 mph without counter steering.
not really re counter steering i can easy turn my bike by shifting weight or moving hips. Even the big street glide because im 110kg. Many people can do similar and are afraid to push the bars to counter steer
@OldNotDead-Club so even if you,as the rider don't get the concept : if you push you right hip forward, that inturn pushes your right shoulder, pushing the bars to the left and you turn right. if you don't counterstear you crash but i welcome a video by you showing speeds above 25kph where you don't counterstear. but please don't hurt yourself to be right.

I have been riding big HDs for 12 years, and the hazards that scare me are loose gravel, grass clippings, and sand on corners.
