    roadglides are best for the interstate because the fairing is frame mounted not fork mounted they don't have the wind pushing the forks around like a street glide

    I purchased the 2019 Street Glide Special and once I upgraded the rear suspension with Ohlins remote reservoir shocks in 13 inches, it is a wonderful bike for local and touring applications. Up to this, I had ridden Ultra Classics for 20 years. I rode a BMW in years past with full Windjammer fairing and loved it. I test rode a Road Glide but did not like the fixed fairing. I will go back to a Street Glide or Limited for my next ride, if there is one. At 70, I am not sure how many years I have left on two wheels.

    As a Street Glide owner I agree with many of the comments raised, particularly the distance between the rider and the Road Glide fairing, and the storage. When I was trading up from a softail I was convinced the Road Glide would be the bike for me. The dealer had a Street Glide Special demonstrator which I rode, immediately loved, and bought with a good deal. Then I spent months wondering if I made the right choice until I was lent a Road Glide for a long weekend tour. After 1,200 kms I absolutely hated it!. The whole fairing and cockpit layout, and seating position was not for me. The ride never inspired the same confidence in the bends, and the whole feel of the steering made me think of a boat!. Sorry Road Glide owners!. I also like the weight of the bat fairing when riding on twisty roads as it gets the front end of the bike down quickly, and when you add a good suspension the Street Glide has a great riding character. A lot of my club mates are changing from Street Glides to Road Glides, and I agree that it may be a better choice for long distance riding if you carry a passenger, but I will not be seduced by the „dark side”.!.

I send your vids to my riding buddies and I don’t send much of anything to other people but you’re the exception because your content is awesome. Case in point for this video: my wife rides an RGS and I ride a SGST. We both have a 131 on them. I’ve ridden both extensively and like the SG more for city riding and RG more for long distance riding especially on the interstate. I live in Arizona and speed limit here is 75 and I can cruise much higher speeds very comfortably on both but the RG wins out. Btw, I’m taking the push up challenge!

    I currently have a SG and a RG, and I prefer the RG for the following reasons:
    1) It took me 3 years and 4 windshields and fairing wings to finally get rid of the severe buffeting on the SG. Too much air comes up from below the SG fairing. The RG was buffeting free from day one.
    2) The stock dual LED headlights are WAY better than anything on a SG. So wide a beam that it makes turning the headlight on the SG irrelevant.
    3) Have you tried adjusting the bars on a SG? Step one - remove the fairing - seriously?
    You can adjust the RG bars in 5 minutes, or install T-bars, or many other styles. Just way more bar options for the RG.
    4) Actual storage in the fairing on the RG.

    • @OldNotDead-Club
      @OldNotDead-Club  2 года назад +2

      All very valid points. I like a little air behind the fairing because summer here is very hot. I don't need to adjust the handle bars I have them as close to the fairing as possible.

    • @thatowensbloke
      @thatowensbloke Год назад

      not sure about the newer ones, but on my '15 SGS - i can adjust the bars in about 5 minutes too. That being said, its a one off thing - set and forget.
      I do agree about the buffeting though, being about 190cm i cop a heap of wind to the face. Looking at the Klockwerks 10" flare, i think it will nail it once and for all.
      SG or RG - lets just ride :)

But most people don't have a remote with tricks either? the look of the streetglide is nicer as far as the handling I can't tell any real deference except everything on the Road glide feels far away and the steering is a little strange on the RG. The RG does have them good pockets up front the SG pocket is useless.

    It all started as a standard FLH in 1969...the first year of the batwing faring. The fixed fairing first appeared as OEM on a Harley Davisdon FLT was 1979 or 1980...which was also the first year of the square backbone frame. I've had both and prefer the batwing over the fixed fairing because of the blind spot created by the fixed fairing.

You mention the Rearview Mirror placement as well….I have 12” KST handlebars and tried using the under mounted handlebar setup for the rear view mirrors , I found the rear view mirrors unusable so I mounted them on top of the handlebars at that point……Much better although not as streamlined……But, the rear view is much better now…..Lastly, I prefer the look of the Batwing fairing.

    First year of the actual Street Glide model was 2006 prior to that it was all under the Electra Glide Model. I bought one in 2007 and rode it for 12 years before buying my Road Glide. I prefer the look of the Street Glide but I think the Road Glide handles better on the road more comfortable on long hauls which I do a lot. Now it's probably not fair to compare a 2019 Road Glide to a 2007 Street Glide there have been many changes to the touring chassis and drive train between 2007 and 2019. I wouldn't turn either one down!!

    I ride an XL1200L with a quick-detach windshield. The physical weight is very little, since it isn't a fairing, but just the plexiglass and the mounting straps and hardware. I almost always ride with it, since I also have a leather windshield bag. so that my my insurance papers and registration are with the bike if I take off the saddlebags. There is a NOTICEABLE difference in flick-ability without the windshield at any speed past probably 2nd gear. The downforce of the wind going into the forks vs going into the rider's torso makes the bike feel like its 100 pounds heavier. I bought the bike used with the windshield already installed and was amazed at how much sportier the bike handled without the wind serving to keep the bike going in a straight line. I hate how the Road Glide looks, but I have to assume that the handling difference must be there, compared to the Street Glide with the force of the wind acting on the steering, compared to the RG. But I'd much prefer the SG, since the RG is as ugly as sin.

    The Street Glide was first introduced in 2006. It was Willie G design and answer to those who purchased an Electra glide and shaved off fenders and guards. The idea was "less is best". Reason why there are (or were) no bagger crash bars or emblems on the fenders. No giant passing light bars and turn signals and stuff like that. Then there are those who purchase a Street Glide and put that stuff back on. Smh. I have an 06 Street Glide. And I've kept it in the less is best design. I did do some Suttle things such as pianted inner fairing, and a front chrome kit. But i left the small tucket turn signals. Single head light and so on.
    Good day.

I bought the bike when it has 20K miles and I bought it as I wanted something that stood out which it does. Its a great riding bike with plenty of power. As an engineer I just felt the frame mounted fairing was a better design than a handle bar fairing. There is no wind buffering. Bought my high school dream bike last June, 2022 XL883N.

I don't care for all the extra electronics for unnecessary extra maintenance failure potential, my Cardo and smart phone cover all the bases there on anything I ride. It will be down to which one I like riding better. I like the idea of a detachable wind screen and a 114 engine all blacked out, but I like the batwing and mag wheels too.

    I like the looks of the SG fairing; just seems to naturally flow with traditional HD styling. I normally prefer fixed fairings on other bikes but to me the RG is an eyesore; it looks like they used the body shell of ED-209 from Robocop as a fairing. Of course the bulbous look of the RG fairing could be brought in check with a painted stipe or a two-tone paint job (like the 2023 Indian Pursuit).
    Both the SG & RG are a "girl's bike", and both are a "man's bike" (unless it's painted pink); it depends on the rider who owns it.

But, I do prefer my RG...I find low speed maneuvering is easier without the weight of the fairing on the bars, I find visibility is a bit better, I find it's a tad more stable at speed especially when passing big rigs...but all of these are little things, and the differences between the two is pretty small. I say, ride what you ride, enjoy the ride, ride fast don't die lol.

    Well VERY soon while I still can I'm going to do a cross country trip or better said a complete loop around the US and plan on taking my time doing it. I have test ridden both the street glide and the road glide. For what I am going to do the road glide is better for me simply because the extra storage space. I agree that not being able to reach ahead easily the gauges and gps etc is a downfall to me anyway makes it a bit awkward. But realistically since almost of the miles I will be putting on will be highway miles the need to continuously be reaching for the dash (Sort of speak) wont be that big of a deal. All my road bikes in the past the fairing moved with the turn and after years of riding I sort of used it as a rough gauge in my turning if that makes any sense. The road glide has a different feel in turning to me anyway but I will get settled to it in a short time. I plan on being gone for at least six months so the bigger the better just cruising that's it.

But if my financial situation couldn't hold a Street Bob and a Road Glide, I'd buy a Street Glide for the best of both worlds. I rode both SG and the RG, and I like the RG better. Hey, as you said there are many "warriors" which is better. I had an Electra from 2006 and now I have a Road Glide from 2019. There is nothing to argue about the appearance and taste, and it's an individual matter. It's a bit like whiskey, when you're very young it doesn't taste good but you get used to it over time. I think it matures the same way to Road Glide. I didn't like it at first, but it has a hint of a modern Harley look. As for driving, it's easier for me to maneuver at slow speeds because I don't carry the fairing on the steering wheel, I also don't have gusts of wind that are transferred to the "steering wheel". And besides, everyone drives what they like :-) Although, as I read the latest market research on the sale of Road Glide in 2022, there may soon be no more Street Glide (Electra) production, Road Glide is so popular. And besides, we are all motorcyclists and there is no need to divide yourself even more into supporters of one or the other model. Let's enjoy the ride and the joy of every kilometer (with us) or mile (with you). Regards

    I got my first Road Glide in 2008, long before Road Glides were "cool". In fact, at the time they weren't cool at all LOL. It definitely grew on me. and, eventually I put 109,000 miles on it before passing it to my son last year. In the interim, having developed a preference for Road Glides over batwing bikes, I bought a 2015 Road Glide Special new. My intention was to leave it "stock". Consequently I found myself riding the '08 and continuing to rack up miles on it as it is modded from one end to the other and was more comfortable, rode better and had a lot more power with its hot 107. Well two years ago the '15 became, lets just say, unstock. So I started riding it preferentially and passed the '08 to my son. So that's it then. End of story.

    I believe that any gender can ride any bike; everything depends on your skills and preferences. That concept that the "masculine" energy is such, such and such, while the "feminine" is the opposite, has created significant confusion about us as human beings.
