I miss early 90s hockey back then...good times..
I loved dudes like Dino, Holik and Anderchuck that crashed the net hard.

It was at this moment, Pittsburgh decided to sign Kasparitis
Point of contact was jagr’s knee. Dirty hit!

Kaspers whole career was a highlight reel lol
In this one game he went after Rick Tocchet, Jaromir Jagr, and a post cancer Mario Lemieux. At 20 years old no less.
Talk about balls of steel. No wonder the Penguins bought him after this, they learned the hard way that it's better to pay Casper than play against him.
We called him Kasper the Unfriendly ghost in the 90’s. Loved that MF’er
Growing up playing hockey this dude was my hero lol. Such a bad ass. He didn't let legends figure skate around him, he smashed them like anyone else if they came across center ice with their head down and they hated him for it.
Yep, the unfriendly ghost. I used to play where the Isles practiced so I got to meet him a few times and get autographs and pictures with him. He was my idol as a kid. He was smaller then everyone but would lay out anyone on the ice

Totally agree might’ve been one of the hardest hitters in the NHL, but would always try to take you out. The knee was also considered one of the dirtiest players ever played have no respect for the man.
Pittsburg had 2 of the 5 greatest players of all time in this series and let Casper attack both of em for free. Almost embarrassing
Agreed. Refs botched this series and consequently, Montreal won the Stanley Cup. Kasparaitis was climbing Mario Lemieux's back this series and no calls from the daft refs. Sad.
You c/an’t s/pell b/ecause you’re m/entally r/etarded

If you watch hockey back in this time that was awesome and the way it was meant to be played
There is difference between physical game and going after oponents knee....
Kasper was built like a rock.
Back then, things like knee on knee or concussions weren’t taken seriously. Keep that in mind
Ask Cam Neely.
Love how they talk about him crashing into the light pole. He was drunk as hell and crashed his car in the Coliseum parking lot.
FACT !!!!!! THAT STORY IS STILL FRESH 31 YRS LATER.... HAHA
I COVERED THIS SERIES AS I PRODUCED THE PRE/POST GAME BROADCASTS' ....DARIUS, PILON, KRUUP, DALGARNO TOO....all thru some gigantic hits in this series.....that's why the Islanders' won.....and yes KASPER did have BALLS of steel...
I know he weighs 210 lb but for a guy that is 5 ft 11 inches he really can throw his body around. He took out Lindros that weighs 240 lb..Yagr is not a small man either..

man those bauer 3000s were the best goddamn skates
Best skates I ever had
Still wear mine.
Bauer Supreme 2000s were really the best . Half the NHL still clung to them and had Bauer use the original patent blueprint to make brand new ones for them and years well after they stopped making them . They were still making new Supreme 2000s for the Pros who wanted them even when the new Supreme 3000s came out a couple years later , then followed by the Bauer Supreme 4000s in 1994 and also in the same year Bauer Supreme 5000 Composites . Watch many guys in the NHL even as late as the early 2000s and you will still see many guys wearing those old Bauer Supreme 2000s original models . By the mid 2000s the majority of guys finally moved onto the full graphite composite boots and the old stitched boot finally became a thing of the past . Heck I still wear my Micron Mega Air 90s which players like Pavel Bure famously donned ( these were pro stock too like his and I bought them at Peranis in Michigan which was a thicker and stronger boot made for the pros and differed a little from the regular stock issued to regular players ) as these skates were made for NCAA division I hockey players . If many College teams around there had a surplus at the end of the year they sold them at a discount to Peranis who then funneled them to the public . Very hard to get this quality of a skate unless you had a local shop make contact with Bauer ( as Micron fell under the Bauer Umbrella after Bauer bought the Canstar Company which held Cooper , Micron , Daoust and a few others like Flak etc ) . Peranis also found me some pro level Cooper Air Roll gloves ( with the little Air Roll Insignia on the upper cuff and the CanStar Half Leaf symbol on the main cuff roll placed between the two Cooper Labels ) and I bought quite a few of them ( as I did with the Air 90s with the White plastic blade holder ) as you couldn’t get these at any pro shop ( again that was pro model stuff only gotten by chance at certain times by Peranis ) . If you remember half the NHL wore this glove ( like Federov up to 1995 or 1996 and Bure with a higher cuff version who then wore the same ones when Bauer totally absorbed Cooper when Bure wore the Bauer version of the Cooper Air Roll ) . I miss those days as those were the days when you had so many different manufacturers making great stuff directly out of Canada . Now they are all mainly gone with only Bauer and CCM making the majority of stuff today . I even at one time wore those huge ViC gloves ( like players like Gartner and Mick Vukota used to wear ) until they stopped making those too . Sad. Hockey sucks now.
As a life long Islander fan, this guy and ziggy are the two most unappreciated!
Palfy was a badass!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

So true, can’t even lay down a good clean hit without the other team coming after you with the gloves dropped.

Dirty hit, clearly went Knee to knee there Kaspy.
I bet you stay on the couch because it’s a drizzle outside. The knee to knee if you played any level was not intentional. Do you realize the speed and accuracy to hit someone at 40km/hr with their outside knee to the opponent’s furthest, inside knee? If it was dirty it would’ve been kasp, left leg to jags left knee. Play some more xbox before being an analyst.
ok Mr. Hockey. I bet you sit on the couch alot with that long explaination.
Fair it was a long explanation but knew it had to be for you. Glad someone had the patience to read my novel to you. Keep drooling in the drizzle.
Kasparitis was awesome. Jagr hung around the blue line his whole career and accumulated points. Most overrated player in NHL history.
Luke Strachan sit down
? Both were awesome in their own ways. And Jagr was amazing!
As opposed to most players who score now only because there's no two line rule at all? Ovechkin much? Jagr's most prominent goals were from hanging around the back of the net and making plays. Who do you think Crosby models his ever churning leg style from, to never get pushed around behind the net and to make things happen.
Jagr 6'2 230lbs vs Darius 5'11 210lbs
Not at that stage of his career - he was still about 215 - 220 lbs tops. I remember The Hockey News wrote an article around 1998 - talking about how - as soon as he learned Mario was going to retire - THAT was when Jagr really dedicated himself to working out and putting on a lot of muscle - Especially focusing on UPPER body strength because he saw the way Mario’s back was wrecked from all the clutching and grabbing and repeated hits he took. By the 1998-99 season - that’s when he was really about 230-235 lbs. I remember the coaches complaining that the only way to stop Jagr was to cheat - and the NHL let them get away with it. It was bullshit. I honestly think they never forgave him for sending St. Wayne into retirement with a loss. 😏

Kasparaitis looks like Jeff Spicoli..................."Sorry Mr. Hand, I was late 'cause I crashed into a Penguin"
Hahaha! 🤣👍
Jagr saw him and had enough time to prepare but tried to dodge and fail. It wasn't a big hit, just what happens when you skate with fear.
@Chaz Bukowski the only thing mindless is the reaction from fear. What you see as mindless is mindful. Far safer to take a hit and protect yourself than try to dodge and fail. The latter is usually two camps. The terrified and the douchbaggery of trying to draw penalties. Jagr was scared. He just happened to have enough talent when left alone to make up for his fear when checked. Protect yourself and you pop up back into the play and help your team.
Or maybe he just misjudged. Looked to me like he was just indecisive, that doesn’t necessarily mean fear.
