But because it used to be considered clean, doesn't mean that they weren't wrong then. A hit to the head is no good. Imagine the careers that would have been extended with an earlier focus on hits to the head.

Eric Lindros and the oversized Flyers could dish it out, but couldn't take it. And Kasparitis was fun to watch . (Remember the 'terrible towel'?) The 'high -fives' seem out of order when viewing this short clip, but the entire game tells a different story. So sorry that Mr. Lindros is in the condition he is in now, but it was Scott Stevens who did that! (I really miss 'Doc', too! ❤)

Both of these teams drastically underachieved that year. Pittsburgh was in the early stages of its gradual decline that would lead to them bottoming out in 2004 and then getting Sidney Crosby. Philly stayed relevant after making the ‘97 final, with appearances in the ECF in 2000 and 2004. But the lockout hurt them badly and they were unprepared for the faster, post-2005 NHL. By 2010 they were back in the final though.

I never liked lindros that much but that hit was cheap. I never hit a player without the puck. If you think this was a clean hit that's probably because you were a bad player and that all you got to offer hitting players 2-3 seconds after the play.. the guy don't have the puck you don't hit. These hits made rules and calls tougher and let place to smaller agile players flying around the ice, and took out big rough players out of the game eventually. I think it made hockey way more faster and interesting at the end. Sad for big tough slow guys though. Hockey has changed from toughness to speed.
