I am trapped in these CBS Sunday Morning videos and I can't get out. And why would I? Thanks Steve Hartman for your commitment to these people with such great stories.
That brought tears to my eyes. That he was going to stop coaching to be there for his girls and that his daughter learned how to kick the ball like that for him. That’s the best and you can see their strong bond
I wish the world were filled with fathers like you. My dad wanted a girl, I came, a tomboy, and nothing I ever did was good enough. I was a constant disappointment to him and in the end, after 51 years of trying I just gave up. We haven't spoken since. The world's girls really need men like you!
I lost my dad 25 years ago. He always said, "The only thing I did wrong was not having 2 of ya." You see my parents only had me. This story is a true tear jerker. Has Steve ever been accused of causing a flood -- a flood of tears?
You are so blessed, to have had a teacher like this. If only more men would model themselves after someone like THIS. Instead of trash. You're a better man, for having him as your "teacher", and knowing him. Best of luck in life, Dustin. Enjoy EVERY moment of it
I had him for 7th and 8th grade science. I always knew he was going to have girls, because he was always so distant with female students. He was still my favorite teacher though.
I like how his coach Instinct came out when he hugged her patted the helmet and gave her a little good game slap instead of his dads shows how much he really loves the game and showed that he was ready for a new one respect
My Dad has my older sister and I, no sons. I asked him if he wanted a boy and he said he wouldn't know what to do with one. The best answer I've ever heard.
AWW, GOD BLESS THEM! I love how she was a football player when kicking and when the ball went through the up-rights... she became a cheerleader again... jumping up and down!!! What a great video! A wonderful keepsake for generations in the future. GREAT KICK! Oh, and for her Dad... CONGRATULATIONS on all of the years you made a great difference in the life of a child! Perfect move spending more time with family. You won't regret it. Create awesome memories, Sir! Yes, GOD BLESS THEM! Peace, Lynne
I take totally after my dad, I have all the same interests and nearly all the same hobbies. I remember one day we were working on a project and I asked him if he ever wished he would have had a boy instead. He looked at me and said "There ain't a boy in the world that could ever match you, I wouldn't trade you for anything on this planet." I literally cried
Update. I am proud to say my Grandson has been playing basketball. He loves it so much. He is shorter than most on the court. But with hard work. And lots of pratice. He made the all star Team last year. and was invited to play on a elite travel team. I wanted a boy. I was blessed with a little girl. Who started out doing beauty contests. Than went into dance. Than in middle school went into band. When she got to high school joined the marching band. Than she found her really true love. Color Guard. Color Guard was a Yuge part of the marching band. She helped her team win State Championships. And then the improbable happened. He was asked to preform at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando Fla. She was the only one from our state to win a spot. My daughter had master the skill of Rifle and Sabre. She goes to College. Gets marries. Than has a baby. A Baby boy. So I got my boy. And I love my daughter and my grandson to death. And this little boy is a Athlete. Just like his Mom.
I played college football and did a bunch of other tough guy stuff. All I ever wanted was to be a dad. I have two grown daughters and they have been the light of my life. They’re tough as nails and the kind of people I’d want to have as friends or neighbors. They’re the best people I know. I never, not even for a second thought to myself “I wish I had a son”. God is so good.
Speaking as an experienced daughter, I can confidently say that being a dad *is* tough guy stuff, and especially to daughters, in my opinion. Not a job for anyone who is anything less than strong.
My parents were blessed with 9 kids and 8 of us were girls and my dad was obsessed with us! He’s still the same way. We’re all married with kids now and there’s a day that goes by that he tells us how blessed he is with having 8 girls. Dad are awesome
My Youngest Daughter played Football Midget league & Junior HS at Eastern HS in Meigs Co, OH, but she wasn’t the only girl in our county at nearly the same time a girl @ Meigs HS Tangy Laudermilt, also played Football.
There is a LOT of truth to him saying he wouldn't trade it for anything. My girls are 20 & 26 and I made it a point to go to EVERY one of their school events that I could.
I wanted a boy. I was blessed with a girl. My little girl is my life. A little twist on the story. My daughter married a fine young man. I got me a little boy. A Grandson! My Grandson and I are each other worlds. I get to keep him in the afternoons after school. WE practice baseball soccer basketball every chance we get.
He's lucky to have you in his life. I never knew my paternal grandfather and barely knew my maternal grandfather. I always wonder how my life might have been different had I had them in my life. Cherish each other.
Great story, but why didn’t they try for a third child or even a forth? I knew a girl in high school, Bryan, who had three sisters with boy names, straight up BOY names-no ambiguity. I graduated in 1992, so all my classmates were born around 1974 when people named their children names of conformity (unlike today). So four sisters named boy names stood out. Turns out the dad wanted a boy so much he selected their name before birth, only to have a girl. This happened four times and that’s when he threw in the towel.
Well, probably they did? There's a lot of things to factor in that could have been the reason why they only have 2 daughters -- probably some health risks, or they really just want to have 2 children, etc. I think that's a much better decision and more practical than keeping on trying until you get the son or the daughter you want.
That's a hilarious story about the dad who tried to defy fate and ended up with four daughters. They probably have "Boy Named Sue" toughness. Same thing happened to my dad, except the four of us have conventional girl names. Ironically after his grandson was born and regularly wore him out (he lived with my parents for awhile as a toddler while his mom was deployed) . One day I was walking by his bedroom and saw him sitting down on his bed after a particularly rambunctious afternoon, looking exhausted and grateful for the break from playing as my nephew was pausing long enough to eat some Mac and cheese. I asked, "Hey, didn't you always want boys?" He replied, "Oh NO I never, never said that." "Really?" He vehemently shook his head back and forth. "NO."
There was actually a television show in the early 90s titled Sisters about a group of sisters with boy names. It was quite successful for a number of years.
My daughter's boyfriend went through quite an "interview" to prove to my husband's friends that he was right for "his little girl". They had to interview him because my husband had died.
There are no U.S. Military and/or U.S. Special Forces members alive that can sustain my burn injuries consciously without being fully locked in four point restraints.
I hate that guy Steve Hartman it seem he always have a problem with everyone, and know I can’t take it and never seeming these videos and just move on because he just kills the vibes
He is retiring when they are in high school to "spend time with them"? His proudest moment was when she kicked? Seriously???? He is proud when his daughter has to act like a son that he made clear he is disappointed he didn't get. CRAPPY STORY
Did you even watch the video before you posted something this ignorant?...or did you actually see the proud moments hugging his young girls and obviously has give them so much love that hes retiring from his job to have more time with them...nice job trying to find a negative outta such a wonderful story...I bet you're the "life of the party" huh?...geebus

My three daughters and three granddaughters always think I had rather have a son or a grandson. I wouldn't change a thing.
Dad
You're the best kind of dad. Your girls (& grandbabies) are lucky!
They should have done the story on you! He makes it clear he would have preferred a son.
I wish the world were filled with fathers like you. My dad wanted a girl, I came, a tomboy, and nothing I ever did was good enough. I was a constant disappointment to him and in the end, after 51 years of trying I just gave up. We haven't spoken since. The world's girls really need men like you!

Daughters have a way of changing your thinking as a dad. I love them both more than life itself. Great story Steve. Thanks again!
I think this man is raising a good family. That’s a true man.
I feel you, coach. As a man I wanted a boy to "carry on" as they say. I had 2 girls first...AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE A DAMN THING!!!!
he is one of my favorite teachers had him in 9th grade he's awesome

Beautiful and priceless memories! ♥️
Had to post this again, Raymond.. Just love it so much!
Initially I wanted a boy. It took about 3 months til I knew better. The first time I made her laugh was a game changer and a memory I’ll never forget.

Nice video piece!
So when was this? I'm always (ok mostly) watching Steve's segments and I don't remember this one.
Amazing ❤
He's right. Princess Dads rule. I still want 1 boy and 1 girl but my daughter made me realize. I don't care either way
Our school used to play West Blocton, she probably could have also been the starting QB.
I don't care about anything in this video but this glorious accent.
Watch the movie "Dangal" from India.
He is my 9th grade teacher this year!
Is he still teaching? Does still tell the story about the rock embedded behind his ear? 😉
Yep

It can cost a lot is also a factor. They may have wanted another one but health and cost is a big thing
