Grant had stage 4 Medulloblastoma, an extremely aggressive childhood brain cancer with only about a 60% survival rate, and very high relapse rate. Grant passed away on February 10th, 2019 at the age of 18 after a relapse with the disease. Grant buddy, you are why I do what I do, why I am in the neurosurgery oncology field of medicine, to help kids like you. I’m sorry I couldn’t save you dude, but you will not be forgotten 💞
Grant died 2019 at age 18, Michigan finally won the game. It is 5 AM May 2023, on another continent in another time watching this news of hope and struggle with a bitter end. This little boy and his battle still makes the heart shrink to a stranger, who all he can do is give a comment of appreciation for this boy and his family's fight to defeat such a formidable foe.
That is awesome. My sister has "C" and I will have to show her this video. Maybe it will help her fight the battle stronger. Thank you for your part in HOPE.
how is she now? i have been in remission from blood cancer for 16 years now i found out on my 16th birthday i had this disease but now i am alive and well and thank GOD everyday for blessing me - i still have a hard time when my birthday comes around ( may 20th) but i have to remind myself that i am healthy and alive - as i am a graphic deisgner i make custom coloring book s for children in vanderbilt hospital - i can make you sister one too if she would like one
Im from michigan and when to university of michigan and im glad you named it michigan. If you can beat it...i love it!!! You are a special person who just wants to be like everyone else. For once i can say "im glad you can beat michigan. Beautiful frame of reference
My father has Cancer I'm not asking for anything just love I'm trying to do better in my life and I can't focus I have really bad ADHD and I'm all over the place god bless this child god bless all the people
Seventh grader having to think about death is terrible. When I was in that grade I never thought about death, I can’t imagine how terrible that must’ve felt and scared him.
This is inane my dad worked for OSU and worked at that children’s hospital- growing up in Michigan I felt that rivalry just as well as him haha for Grant and his family O H
Yes, absolutely substituting a word can make a difference. It was a different situation but I know from personal experience that a word can be very powerful.
Grant had survived two tumors, but in August 2018, the tumors returned. On a Facebook post just prior to his death, his father stated that the tumors were aggressively growing, and that last night instead of pursuing “aggressive interventions,” the family decided to “keep him comfortable.”
My mother died of cancer in 2013. She was 79. Neither her nor me ever understood/ understands why cancer has to attack young people. May Grant rest in peace
I watch this and then I read the comments and see that Grant recently died, and I just wonder, WHY? Why are little kids put on this Earth to suffer so? I'm sure he had many 'good' years and times with his family/friends, but I still don't get it. This makes me sad and angry at the same time. Love to Grant's parents and loved ones.
@@naowright9308 Think of it this way. It looked to be a pretty severe brain tumor. The surgery was always a risk to remove it to where he may not have ever been able to make it out alive just through the surgery. The cancer was so pervasive, it could've killed him in the first year. And yet, I truly believe because of how much fire he had in his soul and heart, that he beat the odds that he did. He survived surgery, the first year, got through physical therapy to regain his life, and survived for six more years. Even though I wish the story had a far happier ending, that's still pretty damn incredible. He was a beautiful, extraordinary person who just clearly loved life, and wanted to live as long as he could. And he did. So I don't think "Michigan" ever truly beat him. "Michigan" never crushed his spirit or his will to live. "Michigan" was a bully, a coward. "Michigan" tried to score the "easy victories" but Grant never let it. And "Michigan" only "won" due to a "fluke." But it never truly won and don't think it did. Grant is the all time champion and always will be.
I lost two cats to cancer in their bellies. I personally gave it the nickname "crab disease" because cancer was named after a crab. I seriously didn't get why cancer was named such.
Unfortunately, this little boy didn’t survive, but he did not “lose the battle.” _People who die from cancer are NOT LOSERS!!_ My family has lost a lot of members to cancer, including my 21 year old brother (inoperable bone cancer) and my oldest sister’s husband (age 30, brain cancer). I learned to _REALLY_ dislike the whole battle-oriented “win-lose” characterization by definition means people who die are automatically _LOSERS,_ no matter how hard they tried to stay alive. Do you honestly think the people who died didn’t give it all they had....do you think they were too weak in their spirit to “win,” or that God wasn’t on their side?!?!? Well, I hate to tell you, but if you classify cancer as a battle with people who win and lose, you are being incredibly cruel without realizing it.
And some diseases actually have a better survival rate if you don't "fight it". So if you "give up", your body stops overreacting, and the "correct" immune response for that particular disease for that particular person occurs. It's hard to say exactly which you should "fight" and which require "surrender", but always saying you must fight might actually be detrimental.
