Unpopular opinion: everyone has the freedom to share their opinion, so here’s mine. My mom recently became a widow, living on her own back in hometown, but is capable of living independently and traveling around the country. She’d like to consolidate one large SUV and a Myvi into a single car which will be her last hurrah. The large SUV is too cumbersome to drive around a small town, and collects dust in between the few outstation drives. The Myvi is fuel efficient and easy to maintain but she doesn’t like driving it on the highway. Owning a single car is obviously more practical for her. The Ativa was first on her radar but she didn’t like the looks or the interior. Another fellow retired aunty bought the WRV and gave my mom a ride and she was immediately keen. It’s nicely sized for her usage around small town, reasonably powerful and stable on highway and for someone who’s been frugal all her life driving P1/P2 or second hand cars, it’s finally/probably an experience for her to buy a new non P1/P2 car. At the Honda showroom I suggested a City or City HB or even the 1.5NA HRV but she prefers the SUV ride height but not the larger HRV. End of the day, her money she suka la right? The WRV isn’t for everyone, and suits a certain niche. If it was THAT bad, it would not have sold the numbers it did, it serves a certain niche/demographic, and for everyone else there is the City/HB/HRV/other brands. I won’t buy the WRV, it’s not for me, but I can see why it works for some people. It’s like the Mazda 3, Rush or Veloz… doesn’t make sense on paper but somehow they do have their customers…that’s choice for you.
For me it’s very simple. It looks like a two-door coupe, despite having 4 doors. THAT is the selling point. Only the HRV and (previously) then Juke does that.
i saw many new wrv in my town area, so i guess the buyers when going to Honda showroom, there is a choice among City Sedan, City HB and WRV at same price range, obviously there were people still chosed WRV for their own reasons. Buying car is all personal preference and emotional purchase. We netizens mostly like to comment "Baik beli xxx" 😂😂😂
Some lower income like Hondas very much but the high income buyers will always avoid buying ANY HONDAs in their entire life. These buyers are Never interested in any Hondas
This is perfect choice for me. In my hometown in sabah, the ride height is a peace of mind. Use less fuel than x50, more nimble, more comfort suspension compared to ativa's harshness when hitting potholes, and still small in size and less turning radius for easy parking in the city. And 4 cylinder all the way.
I was in the market for a small SUV last year. I test drive the WRV and right after that I tested the new City FL. The City feels just right for the price while WRV feels "cheap". With the WRV priced higher than the City, I concluded that the WRV is not worth the price. I ended up purchasing the City. I'll probably wait for a facelifted HRV for my SUV. The WRV need to beef up in a lot of areas to justify its price.
Nahh Im not paying over RM100k (Honda tax I know) for this pretty basic car. Save a little and go for X50. Better upgrades pretty much on every aspects.
It will hold better resale value after 5 years than any china car, especially for those youngster who want keep upgrade. This model just sitting at its own price bucket within honda model line up. Its nearly impossible to price it similiar to City but HRV is better choice than this... Just add 5k more
agree. just sold my 1.5L crossover SUV to buy a honda city hatchback. the city HB feels a LOT more responsive and fun to drive on the road compared to my old crossover which was sluggish and swayed a lot on the curves. then for off-road i got the new Jimny. i think this 2-car combination, one for on-road, the other for off-road, is far better than trying to do everything with one car
The reason for higher fuel consumption is because wrv has higher aerodynamic drag coefficient (higher drake coefficient plagues all suvs and trucks) plus the weight.
It must be due to the shorter gear ratio in wrv compared to city which results is quicker acceleration and reduced top speed. The configuration has been seen In Elevate as well here in India. This WRV is rebranded as Elevate in India with enhanced look btw. The ADAS is camera based and probably due to this it has some limitations.
After just a little bit of research, i really didn't feel like getting the W-RV which I initially drool over. Like the reciew said, we seems to pay a lot for the SUV tax, while the City or the City HB seems to carry so much more refinement. Not worth it dor me. Maybe waiting for its facelift may not be a bad idea. Btw I really like the cyrrent Jazz and am still bitter Honda Malaysia is not bringing that over.
Imo, the WRV is the most impractical model to have in the Malaysian market. Some people would buy it for the logo yeah sure, but save a bit and you have the affordable City, spend some more and you have the better HRV. It doesn’t really make sense to axe out the 7-seater for this 5-seater version. At least if they opt for the 1.0T from Thai’s City, that would somehow set things apart a bit for their models. Same engine, worse performance, smaller and outdated interior, might as well get either the City or HRV.
U are damn exactly right, agreed. We are in d same school of tought.. Now adays human like to sit higher than others but then they go agains d centre of gravity which make d car less control and heavier... -)
HORRIBLE value of a car. The parents bought one (after vehement protests) and everything from the tight interior to the materials, don't hold muster even compared to the City. Heck, it only barely edges out the Ativa (which i own) in terms of material quality... but the Ativa feels way more spacious. People are better off with the City Hatchback, the base HRV if they don't need a hybrid or look to the Chinese if they're so keen.
It’s kinda stupid if you think they replace BR-V spot with WR-V because of new BR-V will be much higher price than the current one n competitor but this WR-V sales dusted by it’s own City Hatch 🤣🤣
I just can't help but to think that those who bought WRV being scammed by Honda because of the overpriced and spec are just not match. Not to mention Honda can't even provide cover for the boot space like what a shame.
Some how rather this reviewer quickly skip the boot space review Why? There is NO BOOT SPACE TOP COVER unlike those found in other models. This is terrible not good as for a professional car reviewer . Trying to hide something

It's the size and design that sells for the WRV, a hybrid of a city car and suv which is great concept from Honda
Your pronounciation is way better and clearer than reviews done on SgCarmart. Singaporean chinese sounds mandarin even when it's english.
The only complaint is the interior looks outdated.
Though HB is better, I eventually opted for WRV due to my height. To each their own I guess? But u cant lie the exterior of the WRV is fire!
Interior look like shit
We give the HR-V exterior a "very ok out of 10" 😆

how about the fuel consumption you think?
Spec wise performance wise interior material wise clearly not even close to X50.....BUT! There are many "Logo-Buyers" out there in the market.
