  • In the last couple of years Spain has introduced a number of incentives that has attracted a lot of Expats and Digital Nomads to the country. These include a Digital Nomad Visa, Tax Incentive, which, combined with the growth of co-working spaces and English speaking communities has made Spain one of the top destinations for Expatriates to move to.
We spend quite a lot of time in Spain during the year, working remotely on our business, so in this video, we’re taking you through why and how we do that. We’re also going to share the reasons why so many other Expats are also choosing to move to Spain, and we will go through the options you have if you also want to move here.

I believe tax residency only kicks in when you've been there more than 180 days in a calendar year, meaning if you go in July, you can stay basically 12 months.

That’s an interesting take! Technically yes, but if the government considers that you are using Spain as your “main base or centre of activities or economic interests” then you will be liable for tax (unless you can prove otherwise) - so it’s important to be careful 😊

What about retiring to Spain? We are nearly retirement age and are considering moving from the US to live in Spain. Do you have any advice for someone like us? Can we purchase a home or do we have to rent? Is there an amount of retirement money that we either have to enter in a bank or earn monthly?

Retiring in Spain is very common (perhaps not so surprisingly). You will have to get a Visa - there's a few options here - but ultimately, when you move, you will need to apply for a "Foreigners Residency Card". Once you have that, you will be able to buy a house, a car and so on. You will also need to prove you have financial means to sustain yourself in Spain, at that is typically 400% of Spain's IPREM (€600 x 4 = €2400 per month). It can be higher if you have dependents. We will make a video about retiring in Spain in specific in the future, so keep an eye out! 😊

But there not. Spain has changed the rules and migrating to Spain is difficult unless you have can EU passport.

Spain has always had stricter rules for non-EU nationals. No significant changes have been made in the last years on this front - The only difference is UK citizens now fall into the non-EU rules, but that was a UK decision, not Spain. If anything, moving to Spain is easier with the introduction of the Digital Nomad Visa (See minute 10:15 in the video). At the start of the video we talk about the stats and how Spain is a top 3 country for brining skilled workers - So the data speaks for itself 😊
