Thanks for this video! I’m in the process of moving to Barcelona next year. I’m actually half-Catalan but I’ve never lived there, so it’s always cool to hear from others perspectives
Pickpocketing is mostly concentrated just in Barcelona, it's not at all common in other areas of Spain. That's cause Barcelona is very international city and has A LOT of tourist.
I think you making a group for expats would be great!! My husband and I are considering moving to Barcelona in the next couple of years and that would be amazing!
@@aboutthemusic101 it's been made and we had our first meetup :) you can get the link via the community highlight on my instagram page or email me directly and I'll send it over to you! This is the method at the moment to avoid spam only those interested :) Good luck with your move! Hope to see you around!
I appreciate this. US citizen living in Bogotá preparing to move to Barcelona in a few years. My desired area is Costa Brava 45 minutes to city center. Definitely getting your map and learning some Catalan.
Wow, you're bringing back so many memories! 🙂 OK not to hijack but to augment ... LOL! You didn't mention Barceloneta. Yea yea, I know, no one likes it. But I've lived there in two separate flats and absolutely LOVED the area. Everything is so convenient. Sure it's overrun with the cruise ships and their ilk, but I seriously enjoyed my time there. And dinnertime! I soooooo miss the 10:30 meals, it made perfect sense. Just can't do that here in the states ... all the more reason to move back to Spain. (We're working on it!) Thanks for the video.
Oh yes the Barceloneta! Excellent addition! You’re actually only the second person I’ve met who’s lived there! Great to know it’s a good option :) As for dinner time, get yourself back here and let’s do tapas!! 😁 Good luck with the move! 🤩
We’ve spent time living in Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, the last 5.5 years in the UK and now thinking of moving to Barcelona after visiting several times recently and falling in love with the city/weather/lifestyle.
Awesome! You can send me an email (which can be found on my RUclips channel page) or in my bio on Instagram @bergennat - it’s better this way so no bots or trolls get the link 😄
Wow! What a great video. I am so excited. Great re-sources and you put everything together with a low stress vibe. You have given me the courage to go forward. I will definetly be back-Thank you very much!! 😀
Great video! Somehow your videos are very easy to watch, there's no harshness, no hurry to give all information out. I love how you've put b-rolls and memes throughout the videos, very engaging. I would be interested to join if you decide to create a group.
Hola! I’m soooo happy I found your channel. I’m also Canadian and moving to Barcelona in May 😊 my partner is Catalan so I have an upper hand but I’m so excited to meet other expats! I look forward to watching your other videos and checking out your patreon.

I'm moving to Barcelona soon and love all of your videos! Super helpful and informative. Finding a flat is super stressful right now, I think I'm starting too early so haven't found anything open for my dates yet. How early in advance do you typically look for a flat? The rent market I'm in is a bit slower, but it seems like in Barcelona I have to sign and move in on the same day lol. What about security deposits? Have you had any issues with not getting your deposit back or landlords nickle and diming you for it? I've had a few friends warn me about this.
That’s super exciting Dawn!! Based on what I know, you can find something within a month, assuming your requirements aren’t overly intense ;) the only exception to that would be August- that’s the worst month to try to move because everyone is on holiday. As for deposits - we’ve never had a problem but because we also screen our landlords/landladies and read the contract very thoroughly. That being said I’ve had friends who had this problem so I recommend taking photos of literally everything before moving in so you have proof. Aaaaand when you look at your contract it’s important to see there is a part describing what’s in the flat and what state it’s in. I hope it helps! Keep your eyes out for more videos coming soon ;)
Hi Natasha! I'm going to spend a 3-month period for my PhD in Barcelona. I would appreciate you creating a groupt to get to know more people, yes! Thank you for your videos!
16:27 Please help me, Natasha, or someone else. I couldn't understand what she said here. The subtitles say "Eco Ultra," but I couldn't find anything about that.
We just returned from a 10-day visit visiting some of my wife’s family. It had been 20 years since our last visit. Most of her family, in Spain, live in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. One thing I noticed was that -laces with air conditioning such as stores, restaurants, even the airport do not keep the AC very cold…I was sweating while shopping and at the airport on arrival and departure. Even in my wife’s nephews Apartment, when they had the AC turned on, it was set at 25c/77f…but the actual temperature inside was 27c/81f…that is uncomfortably hot for inside while trying to sleep.. on nights when they said it was “cool” outside (22/23c-73/74f), they didn’t turn on the AC, so their was no air flow in the apartment; even with the window open, I was suffocating.
This is all well and fine (I don't mean to be a wet blanket as I too LOVE Barcelona!!!!!!!) but how do you get around the 90 day limit (out of every 180 days) inside the Schengen Zone?
I went to Barcelona last year and fell in love with the city! I want to move. There and I’m so glad I found your page! I’ve also been looking into Valencia and Mallorca but not sure yet. Definitely going to look 8th that course but I just hope that there is info for freelancers like me🙏🏽🤗
Hi everyone. I love to hear and read people talk with such love about our city, but I'd like to ask you a thing. If you come to live to Barcelona, even if it's only for a few months, try to learn at least a bit of Catalan and Spanish and integrate into local culture. You love Barcelona cause of its people, its restaurants, its urbanism... Well, when you come here, people leave, cause you can pay higher rents with your online jobs. And then, when you start going to the new "Brunch Bar" instead of the local restaurant, you finally kick off the last contact with local culture you had, and then it doesn't matter wether you live here or in NY, your live will be the same. This has already happened in Sant Antoni, and it's starting to happen in Poblenou too. I'm not asking you to do the impossible, I think, just try to help maintaining the reason qe all love this city so much. If you've come this far, thanks for your time :) Edit: oh, and don't say "expat" please. It makes it seem like you are different just for being anglo and have money instead of african or from latam. It just feels weird and a little bit classist xd
Great question! I'm working on a video to this question, as I get it a lot :) In a nutshell, I'd say it comes down to what you prioritize and what you look for in your day to day. I personally preferred Lisbon to Barcelona but that was mainly because of my lifestyle and the immediate nature around. Barcelona has been great as it's a nice international hub with affordable flights. Keep your eyes out for the video! :D
Thank you so much for your videos, they're so helpful! 🌺 I was wondering what do you think of El Born and Sant Pere? Are they similar to El Raval and El Gótic as they look quite the same on the map with their narrow streets? 🤔
I'm so happy to hear! :) Born is amazing, I'd say it's one of my favourite areas to explore! To live in, I think it would be good if you like nightlife and being close to amazing places! I had friends who rented for a few months at a time here and decided to leave because it was noisy, but it all depends on what you can find :)
Is there much opportunity for expats in the beauty industry/ salons in Barcelona? I am a nail tech/ beautician but not sure if it’s in demand in Barcelona? Thank you 🙏💕
Holaa 🧙🏼♂️, I'm planning to go study to Barcelona in about 3 months, everything has been kind of in a rush but I'm pretty excited so I have been looking for every information and things I need to do ahead (and the most important a place to live near my Uni), so I found your videos yesterday jeje, and as you mentioned in the video about being interested to be a part of a group and a community there I am!, Just wanted to comment about it here
I am moving to Barcelona next Tuesday, bit nervous to be honest, but really looking forward to meeting new people there and to enjoy this beautiful city! Is there an update on the meetup group? 😃
Great video, I was just looking for info like this! Question: when you visit appartments, they ask for 3 payslips and a job contract for both of you? My husband has it but I will look for a job later. How did you solve it without working in bcn?
Hi Magdalena! Thanks for a lovely message and great question :) Yes, you're right, most will ask for this. It depends on your situation, but let's say your husband's contract shows that he could 'support' you both, then they won't need proof from you. Or if you can both prove that you have the funds to pay rent without a problem, then you could offer to show this. Another thing you could do is offer another month of deposit. Not sure if this will apply, but if you had recent income because you're a freelancer you can show recent invoiced payments or previous tax forms. They really just want to guarantee that they will get their rent every month. I hope that helps! :)
@@NatashaBergen THey, thanks for answering:-) Yeah, we have enough funds, I was just scared they will want to see my contract and first I wanna learn Spanish better to land a better job (customer service/HR related). And we want to find a place with AC, and also we have a super cute cat, which may be a problem... Anyway thanks and see you around;)
Hi Natasha, Thank you for making very informative videos. I will be moving Barcelona by next month. Could you please suggest way to find accomodation for temporary stay for 4-6 months. Thank you
I’ve had friends who did this and they usually used Airbnb or went through FB groups that offered subletting (this option is more affordable but I recommend you start looking early). I hope it helps! :)
isn't illegal this agency fee? I think I read something about it, only the landlord should pay them (I also had to pay for this fee but I'm thinking about suing them)
When i went to Barcelona no matter where i went i got cat calls ...maybe it didn't bother me as much because i grew up in a latin Place and it happens all the time
It’s definitely an artist’s city! As for whether or not you could make a living, I’m not sure - not my area of expertise:) I always believe anything is possible with some research :) I believe in you 🙌
Oh.. how I wanted to see this video before!! I moved from Lisbon to Barcelona just 3 weeks ago and I'm getting crazy to find a flat that accept my cat, specially because they all want the NIE (and I didn't get one yet) and 3 Spanish "nominas", even if I moved with the same company that I had in Lisbon and my long term contract is clearly wrote that the longevity of the contract is valid since 2021. I'm tired.. this is so stressfull
Hi Natasha! I'm moving from Toronto to Barcelona in August and found your videos super helpful, especially as a fellow Canadian. I think a group for expats as you described would be amazing. I'll be studying/working, but it would be great to have some people (especially other Canadians) outside of those professional circles.

Hi Mark. are you able to share your experience? I am considering this change in my life and, I don't know where to start, not sure if is better getting a student visa or just go there as a tourist and figure things out . I heard is hard to get a job if you are not local.
Hey Natasha, we are living in Malaga (my husband and a Goldie) and I'll be moving to Barcelona at the end of July where, hopefully, we'll settle down (if our visa works out). I would love to meet you and be a part of your community circle. 💞

I was recently in El Ravel and prior to going out there I was telling my friends how much less gross Spanish men are than men in the UK, and less sexist. But in El Ravel women can’t walk more than two steps without men whistling, yelling and even acts of intimidation. But I have had exactly that in Brixton, Hackney and Elephant and Castle in London as well. But it’s still disgusting! I’ll definitely avoid it in future
Damn i love Barcelona, been there every summer the last 6 years😂 How do i find a job that doesnt require fluent spanish? I know about callcenters but i would hate it, all the industrial automation and robotics companies wants you to speak spanish haha…unfortunately ”cómo te llamas” is not enough
Hi, thanks so much for your videos! I absolutely love them and your energy! :) Super informative, real, and honest, which is very rare nowadays! Also, I love nature and hiking so thanks for all the nature-related tips!! I am planning to move to Barcelona by the end of the year from the north of Europe (I really need the sun.. :D). And I will be moving with my (medium-sized) doggo. So I wanted to ask you, what is your day-to-day experience with your Bella? Where do you walk her, how far the parks are, which neighborhoods are the best for dogs, and where can she be off-leash, do you shop with her , or take her to restaurants, how are the beaches, and also does your lifestyle with her change from summer to winter? Thank you very much in advance for any tips :)
Hi Elisabeth!! LOVE your questions! There’s a lot to unpack here so if you don’t mind I’m actually going to make a little Fact Sheet of sorts based on your questions 🙌 Stay tuned! You’ll be the first to know!
Literally every person who lives in Barcelona is trying to justify petty crime by saying "just like any other major city" but these don't happen in any other major city. Only in Americas and South Europe.
I’ve just come back from 5 days and my favourite parts are those you’re not keen on. The gothic quarter was beautiful and full of character whilst I personally found the newer areas to be mostly ugly with terrible relatively modern architecture. Also after looking to buy, those properties weren’t cheap either, not much cheaper per square meter then my own city. Where as further north and both east and west of the city centre apartments seemed much cheaper. We were finding 3 bedroom apartments fairly modern for around 150,000 euros. In general I got the feeling it would be a wonderful city in which to live, I felt safe, it was clean, as a tourist I didn’t feel I was taken advantage of and enjoyed it very much and would recommend a visit to everyone. The way of life would suit me very much, but as with many places it’s a different experience if you’re selling up and relocating with money/assets than it would be to start from scratch. I know quite a few people from Barcelona who now live here in the UK and although they love their home they complain about ever feeling they can own a property, start a business or indeed earn a decent salary.
Yeah? Difficult to get into catalonian circles??😅😅 I am not spanish and I went on holiday there for 3 days and a barcelona guy had such a crash on me and introduced me to all his colleagues and friends in 3 days 😂😂
No idea Francisco but I’m definitely an immigrant 👍 If I wasn’t, it would be difficult for my Spanish partner and I to be together and it’s easier than Canada for us 🙌 Thanks for the curiosity!
Do you know how we spanish are calling actually to Barcelona? *War-celona* Cause criminal rates are rising. Even i have friends from there and we joke about it. Look very well where are you buying the home, cause like in France, there are "no go" zones. Of course, there are also good and quiet towns in the province. Greetings from Málaga.

@@NatashaBergen What about the locals? What about making rise the housing prices and kicking us out? What about not speaking the local languages and making us feel like strangers in our own city? The city is saturated and degradation is visible. Please don't come.

@@gdula84 sounds like you’ve already thought of everything! Great plan 😁 good luck xx
Hi Natasha,
Thank you for making very informative videos.
I think I read something about it, only the landlord should pay them (I also had to pay for this fee but I'm thinking about suing them)
At the time of making this video, no it was not illegal but yes now the law has changed. Landlords pay the agency, renters should not. 😁
How is the vet care there?
Expensive xd
I've never heard complaints about it, but it also depends on each clinic I guess :)
Hi
I want move in Barcelona..what about job?Thanks😊
When i went to Barcelona no matter where i went i got cat calls ...maybe it didn't bother me as much because i grew up in a latin Place and it happens all the time
do you feel it is possible for foreign creators/ artists to come to Barcelona and make a living from their art?
It’s definitely an artist’s city! As for whether or not you could make a living, I’m not sure - not my area of expertise:) I always believe anything is possible with some research :) I believe in you 🙌
As long as you don't graffitti Ciutat Vella and the trains and metros... xd
Oh.. how I wanted to see this video before!!
Awesome! That’s an exciting move!! I hope all goes well! We’d love to have you join! The group is already made and we’ve had some meetups you can join via the link in my Instagram bio or send me an email that can be found on my RUclips channel homepage
Hi Mark. are you able to share your experience? I am considering this change in my life and, I don't know where to start, not sure if is better getting a student visa or just go there as a tourist and figure things out . I heard is hard to get a job if you are not local.
Hey Natasha, we are living in Malaga (my husband and a Goldie) and I'll be moving to Barcelona at the end of July where, hopefully, we'll settle down (if our visa works out). I would love to meet you and be a part of your community circle. 💞
Hi Diana!! That’s super exciting 😄 I hope it all works out for you and your fam! We would be happy for you to join the community! You can find the link on my Instagram bio @bergennat or email me via the email address on my RUclips channel page 🙌
Do people pay you to guide them?
They’ve tried 😉 at the moment I’m too busy but all my guides and help are on my website and Patreon 😄 it’s the best I can do
That is black jaguar.
Do you find Catalan difficult to learn?
Damn i love Barcelona, been there every summer the last 6 years😂
How do i find a job that doesnt require fluent spanish?
I know about callcenters but i would hate it, all the industrial automation and robotics companies wants you to speak spanish haha…unfortunately ”cómo te llamas” is not enough
Sounds like it’s your place!! That’s awesome! I’d take a look at tech companies, a lot of them are international and it’s a huge tech hub here 🙌
Love, love, love it! Life in Barcelona is great 👍👌 Folks, take Tasha's course, pack your bag and join the fun 😁
Hehe you would know! 😁 Fellow Barcelonian 😉
Great content, would love to join the group too as I'm considering moving to Barcelona this year :)
Awesome! Keep your eyes out 👀 I’m working on it 😁

No no, please don't buy flats in Barcelona as an investment. We don't need you to do so xD
Barcelona would be the last place that I would consider 😂
Why are you watching this video then?
Thank you for all of your valuable tips. It will come in handy as we prepare to relocate to Barcelona from Norway this year or next ❤
Amazing! Love to hear this! I hope the move goes smoothly Maria :)
I think that bureaucracy was viciously entrenched by 600 years ago.
The first thing people should know is not to move to Barcelona in the first place. The people in the rest of Spain are much nicer!
Russian?) Just by looking into the accent))
Yeah? Difficult to get into catalonian circles??😅😅 I am not spanish and I went on holiday there for 3 days and a barcelona guy had such a crash on me and introduced me to all his colleagues and friends in 3 days 😂😂
Why they say expats when they mean inmigrants?
No idea Francisco but I’m definitely an immigrant 👍 If I wasn’t, it would be difficult for my Spanish partner and I to be together and it’s easier than Canada for us 🙌 Thanks for the curiosity!
Expats are not planning to settle permanently, immigrants do. That’s the difference.
Just spent 2 weeks in Barcelona and I would NEVER live there.
Most overrated city I've ever seen.
Thanks for your decision.
Do you know how we spanish are calling actually to Barcelona?
*War-celona*
Cause criminal rates are rising.
Even i have friends from there and we joke about it.
Look very well where are you buying the home, cause like in France, there are "no go" zones.
Of course, there are also good and quiet towns in the province.
Greetings from Málaga.
Expats go home!
Hi Antonio, this is not the place or the channel to share these kinds of sentiments. Kindly take it elsewhere.
@@NatashaBergen this is exactly the place. Go home! You kill the city!!!
@@antoniobanos8240I mean, there are ways to say things instead of just speaking loud and screaming with violence...
Number 1: DON'T.
Please don't.
Don’t get all the information needed to make an informed decision and be fully prepared to live their best lives? Not everyone moves to Barcelona because it’s Barcelona, Spain. Sometimes people need to move here for their job. It’s like any other thriving city on the planet.
This channel helps people live their adventures, including if they want to move to a new city.
@@NatashaBergen What about the locals? What about making rise the housing prices and kicking us out? What about not speaking the local languages and making us feel like strangers in our own city? The city is saturated and degradation is visible. Please don't come.
@@princepsnamque1709 Its revenge for all the immigrants coming to the US and degrading it. At least we are moving there legally.
That happens everywhere. I live and work london im English I live on a rough road in south london even though I have a good wage I couldnt dream of living in Londons most attactive postcodes but quess what immigrants that dont even work have houses there (example notting hill / chelsea) and I dont blame them I blame the elites the governments that make it this. Way on purpose. Stop channeling the blame to fellow humans . Blame the correct. People. Put your comments on their pages. @princepsnamque1709
