As always I enjoyed this video. Had never thought to put baked beans and hamburger together like that Bet you I try it. 😊 My Momma used to diced onion and chop up bacon and cook it and add pork-n-beans and heat through. So good. That is what yours reminded me of. My Daddy was the slaw maker at our house. He used cabbage, carrots and Miracle Whip. I think that is why I love your videos. You remind me of family. 😊. Excited for the babies to get here. 😊🤗

My Mom used the pork & beans from a can & then added Ketchup, brown sugar & a little yellow mustard. I do the same, but omit the mustard. I sometimes sub maple syrup instead of br. sugar. We never mixed anything else in it, except for cut up hotdogs(already cooked), called beans & weenies. Hamburgers were separate entirely, topped according to each's taste( tomatoes, onions, ketchup, mustard, cheese).

    My slaw recipe is
    1 head cabbage, finely chopped
    1 carrot, shredded
    1/4 cup diced onion
    1 cup mayo
    2 Tablespoons sugar
    2 Tablespoons white vinegar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
I always mix up my dressing first and then pour it on top and mix.

My college roommate taught me his mother's hamburger and bean recipe in 1966. We fixed it often. We always used pork and beans and added a little chopped green pepper, a tablespoon of ketchup and a bit of chili powder. We call these cowboy beans. We live in a community rich with Mennonites and I learned the recipe from one of them. Our recipe calls for the hamburger, baked beans, green pepper, onion, brown sugar and a good squeeze of BBQ sauce. I put mine into the crockpot after I have browned the meat and let it sit on low all day. I usually choose the Bush’s Baked Beans with the maple & brown sugar and skip adding more brown sugar. I use Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce if I have it. We have never put ours on a bun, but that looks delicious. I would have added a good slice of cheddar on top of mine.

Hamburger and beans was a go-to quick meal for me all the years I was working. I add a little bown sugar, either some tomato paste or a couple squirts of ketchup and some squirts of worchestershire sauce, Lea and Perrins, to perk up the sauce the beans came in. Another meal, I substituted sliced hot dogs for the hamburger. My family used salad dressing sweetened with a little sugar, some mustard for tang and a few celery seeds to make cole slaw. Mom didn't like to cook very much, but could turn out servicable meals. One of her best was home made baked beans from scratch, that is, cooked dried beans sweetened with pancake syrup and tomato. I wouldn't have turned down an invitation to share the meal you showed us today, though!

I make a summer slaw and a winter slaw. For summer slaw; cabbage, tomato, cucumber, salt, black pepper and mayo. For winter slaw; cabbage, carrot, bell pepper, salt, mayo and a little sweet vinegar syrup to taste. To make the sweet vinegar syrup you take 1cup sugar, 1/4 cup vinegar and 1/4 water and bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves. I pour in an old jelly jar when its cooled. It will keep in the frig for at least 6 to 8 months.

We like our slaw finely chopped so I use my high speed blender, adding the chunks of cabbage, carrot, onion and pepper with salt and a couple cups of water, pulsing 5-6 times. While it drains I mix 4parts mayonnaise with 1 part vinegar, 1 part oil and some celery salt. Add the drained shredded veg, mix and chill.

My momma used to make what we called goulash but we made it out of plain pork n beans, add hamburger, onion, white shoe peg corn, and a little ketchup, salt and pepper to taste. It sounds gross I will admit but it’s so good with a pan of cornbread. As my momma used to say it will fill up an empty stomach, lol.

Here in Texas, I've been making it for 40 years just like my MIL taught me. Hamburger and onions fried up together, then pork and beans and bottled BBQ Sauce added. We would eat it on buns, or open faced on toast, or on top of fried cornbread. I like the idea of using baked beans and serving it over rice; that sounds delicious!
My Slaw recipe is actually more of a refrigerator pickle, but everyone loves it (except my husband, who hates cabbage in any form.)
Shredded green cabbage, slivered red onion, shredded carrot, and diced celery hearts. Mix in the amounts to suit your taste. I typically use
1/2 of a medium head of cabbage,
    1 baseball-sized red onion,
    1 large, fat carrot, and
1/2 cup or so of diced celery hearts.
[about 10 - 12 cups of prepped vegetables all totaled].
For each 3 cups of veggies, prepare a brine with the following
    2/3 cup sugar
    2/3 cup distilled white vinegar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
Heat the brine to a boil, and simmer just until sugar is dissolved. Let it cool a little, then pour it over the slaw. Press the slaw into the brine, weighting it down with a glass lid, or a plate. Refrigerate for several hours, before serving.
It collapses down to about 1/2 the volume, after it sits a while, so I suggest starting out with twice the amount of veggies as you want of finished slaw.
Sometimes I serve it just as it; other times I will drain it from the brine, and stir it a little mayo, some black pepper and a splash of vinegar-sugar brine, if I think it needs it.

Don´t know where I´ve been all my life to never have had this kind of hamburger & baked beans, just kidneybeans or pintos in chili... it looks really good & will be even easier to make after seeing you do it. The cookbook´s recipe is easy for people who may not see this video. Thanks for showing this. 😊

Cabbage, white vinegar, white sugar, pineapple juice and chucked pineapple (from can). Some times a few carrot slivers and raisins. Best cole slaw. And it makes a wonderful “juice” if you do it a few hours ahead or night before.

Hamburger n beans is close to what my family calls goulash. We fry our meat with onion, bell pepper, garlic, worcestshire sauce.
While thats cooking put 2 cans porkn beans to each pound of meat you have. We usually used 6. Get them nice n hot and add in 1/4 cup brown sugar an a couple splashes of apple cider vinegar but it is ok if you do not have any vinegar. Cook the beans until all the brown sugar is dissolved into it. Then add your meat in, drain it first if it is really greasy. If you used less than 6 cans of beans then you will use less brown sugar. It is like a thicker chili consistency. You can also add some chili powder into this to taste if you want.

The best slaw I ever made was out of desperation. I had a slaw made with red wine vinegar and a little olive oil as part of the dressing (mayo, salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar). We had an unexpected extra 15 for dinner so the only way I could stretch the quantity was to grate zucchini into the already prepared slaw. I could not believe how good it was. Now I try to have fresh zucchini anytime I make slaw.

I make slaw with cabbage and carrots, red wine vinegar or ACV, salt and pepper, a bit of celery seed, honey and olive oil. If we want it a bit creamy, will add a spoonful of mayo. We just had burgers and slaw and fries tonight, and we just saw this video the first time tonight. To my son's counting, this is about the 4th time our supper menu has coincided with yours! LOL, every time it happens the kids' eyes get all big like....."how is that possible we keep making the same meals the same time!?"

Mom combined pork and beans with ground beef and onions. No buns. Having buns in our home were a treat: buns were more expensive. For my parents the combo of beans and ground beef with onions were an economical meal that fed five mouths. I sometimes miss the simplicity of my childhood and the customs we practiced in food preparation. Cornbread without sugar was very popular for us. However, we had sweet tea (brewed not instant) every evening meal. Meal preparations in the summer time left our kitchen hot as we did not have AC for many years.
