The Chaos Emeralds being extraterrestrial in origin makes sense, given the mystery surrounding how old they are, where they came from, how they were made, and why they have such strange properties. They could very well have been created for the express intention of being used as a power source for space travel.
It's possible that the early civilization on south island may have been echidna's much like Knuckles' tribe as seen in SA1, as they were likewise inspired by ancient Mayans. The clearly human settlement visible from Starlight zone could easily be the result of humans exploring and settling on lands newly discovered to them. A similar human settlement is visible in Spring Yard zone.
huh, this video definitely gets me thinking, and it's a really interesting theory. I'm really excited that there is a new channel that has a series dedicated to sonic theorys, because there is so much in the sonic universe that has yet to be explained, and making theorys to fill in the gaps is so much fun! I'm definitely subscribing. can't wait to see more!

Just one question remains given how similar the ruins of Labyrinth zone on South island and the ruins in lost Labyrinth zone on Mirage island are were those two places ones one or it is all just a coincidence.

Yeah I may possibly return to this one sometime in the future, especially with all the new information surrounding Mirage Island that was revealed.

I always thought the stone buildings of Marble Zone were the same ones featured in the first level of "Altered Beast", which was also one of the very first games to be released on the Sega Genesis. Coincidence? I think not. XD

This may be far fetched, but i like to speculate
what if the arks of the cosmos plummeted into the earths atmosphere, some breaking apart into the chaos emeralds (since only five bits were jettisoned.) and one staying together as the master emerald. The ancient peoples discovered the hunks of power and presumed them to be crystalline and cut them into their current state, keeping them as important royal family symbols until the Babylon rouges stole them and brought them to angel island.
THe master emerald (the one intact ark of the cosmos core) directly impacted angel island causing disturbance in gravity causing it to float. Which is why when removed from the island the landmass crashes back to earth.
The only reason Angel Island float is because Tikal remove it to keep thieves from stealing the master emerald and awakening Chaos again in fear he would destroy the world again like he did all those years ago.

I HAVE a good theory. What if the sol emeralds give you a burning form like burning blaze and you turn pinkish red with fire abilities. So would blaze turn yellow if she used all 7 chaos emeralds. And would sonic turn redish pink and gain fire powers?
Excellent video! And I think is worth mentioning there is another ancient city floating in the sky in Sonic Rush Adventure called Sky Babylon, wonder if its a coincidence, also there is a part of city in Sonic Battle called Night Babylon, perhaps there is another theory there?
For some reason I never remembered green hill zone having totem poles until generations came out. And it's funny cause I played sonic 1 so many times!

You should do a theory about how in sonic and the black knight/secret rings about how other sonic characters were in them but they are a different person yet still have there personality for example sir Lancelot immediately challenged sonic like the normal shadow would and how Gawain still acts like the average knuckle head

Wait, there's something off about the chaos emeralds part. Acording to the story of Sonic Chaos, it is said that South Island would have sinked in the ocean if Sonic didn't recovered the 6 Chaos emeralds.

Well that was quite an intro.
I like the video but I'd like to pose a separate theory, kinda beside this one more or less, so bare with me if you give a shit but.. here we go.
I always found it weird that abandoned city skylines AND ancient ruins exist AT THE SAME TIME, as a kid it blew my mind because it really doesn't make much sense to me that they both look near pristine. I think that (or I'd LIKE to think that) there's something huge behind the scenes, and I'll use the Archie comics for reference for this too. The Chaos Emeralds in the comics are technically called Beryl Crystals and sound as though they have very strange properties, and yet straight forward. The comics describe Beryl energy to be everywhere, like the force, Ki, Qi, etc. The Emeralds in the games I believe are referenced to have any capability that you want but in the comics it's said DIRECTLY that they can make dreams realities on a literal sense, for example Knuckles used the chaos energy in the air to change fate, time travel, fly, etc. So it can be assumed that it's just things people believed here on Earth.
With that out of the way I can say that at first I was thinking that maybe the Mobians were just the next dominant creature through evolution but something like that takes MILLIONS of years to get anything vaguely different so at that time I'd assume that these vastly different ancient buildings and accomplishments would be less than a memory but no, they're just.... around...
Looking at how fucked Mobius and their universe is and looking at it in a certain light you could just say "Ya the world is whatever the artists want it to be" but I think saying something this long running is exactly what it looks like and moving on is an extreme disservice to the artists, like saying that they're too stupid to even WANT to slip something past our eyes or that their art is not every good enough to be looked at through a different light. I think that something HAPPENED or DID happen that made their existence so much different from our own, something huge. Many cultures in the Sonic universe have harnessed Beryl for various uses, anything from holding up an island to sending one into space like the fuckin Starship Enterprise (at least I believe it was Beryl because nothing else holds the same properties). Maybe a catastrophe "broke" the universe, kinda like the worlds collide crossover in the comics that happened recently only I think something had to happen before good 'ol Ogilvie reared his old head to anally probe space-time.
In another comic: Scud The Disposable Assassin, (SPOILERS) it says that the universe is weird but the weird things happening in the comic are all because the Apocalypse had been postponed so many times over. I'm thinking that maybe something similar happened to make their universe to malleable, like all these creatures having such an easy time tapping into Beryl, time being more of a toy than a law, people impossibly intelligent, etc. I don't really know what it was but I think it might have been something to do with the ancient Babylonians after the black hole their ship originally created or something else they did, maybe it had something to do with the Time Eater (Like seriously what the fuck else was he for other than a bullshit reason for an awesome game), maybe it was Spawn? Whatever. Anyway the point is that I don't believe that their world is so easy to manipulate that some kid could do it for a second grade science project, and it's like that just BECAUSE and it still exists in decent working order?
Long story not so short, I think that their universe is broken in a way that things don't decay or that evolution is too fast for them to handle, that space-time is a toy and that it's inhabitants are too powerful for their universe; Someone fucked up and broke it.

I have a theory that sonic does not run past the sound barrier because he doesn't want to. There are many people who theorized what sonic's true speed is. Can you do one too because your theories are one of the few that make sense.

I've come up with something. In sonic forces, Sonic is trying to save a destroyed world. But why? And don't tell me "because he's a hero". What will he do once it's saved? Fix it? How do you fix a world that's in ruins? And if sonic forces goes along with the main cannon that means sonic messed up somewhere. What did he do? How did he mess up?
rings and power ups were the people but sonic keeps kidnapping or using them lol
you know most of the traps can be explain with it being Robotnik put them there to stop sonic kinda obvious but some of the other like lava or some of the underwater traps were most likely not made and placed by robotnik

I've found something, in Sonic 3, in hydro city act 1 if you use debug mode to see the top of stage you'll see statues of Sonic, can this be explained?

It isn't all that special given that in Hidden Palace zone there are giant pictures that show Super sonic fighting eggman over the master emerald or in outer words the fight between sonic and eggman was already predicted by the echidna's (some times after the chaos event most likely) hundreds of years bevor the events of sonic 3 and knuckles

Episode idea The game Geer titles take place in an alternative universe. one example of this I have found is that things like south island looking COMPLETELY different than the ones from the main series.

Let me explain: In the American Sonic Bible, which is basicly a guide to the characters in Sonic 1, the non-anthropomorphic animals were given renames and the one known in japan as "Ricky" was renamed "Sally Acorn" so in a not-really sorta way, Sally Acorn is canon to the games world.

Things like this result when Sonic fandom reads too much into the clues.
I love reading the origin stories in the StH comic books explaining things considered "canon" (e.g. how containment rings were created and how the chaos emeralds were housed in the R.O.C.C. before being released accidentally, transforming Kintobor into Robotnik) but this speculation is a little much.
Can't we just enjoy the totem poles, the colonnades with their pediments and the witch dr. faces on blocks for what they likely are; Just giving things a cultural aesthetic and slight context without much beyond that?

Could the Babylonians hiding the chaos emeralds be linked to the special zones? In many of the classic games, you need to collect a number of golden power rings in order to open a gateway to a pocket dimension where the chaos emerald can be found.
Could the Babylonians have been the ones to create the power rings? Is it possible the Babylonian race is the one responsible for all the strange and surreal special zones, considering they seem to be strange pocket dimensions made for storing treasures?
I think there was 2 tribes the green hill tribe had a war with the water ruins tribe but the wr tribe won that's why there is a lot of water in green hill zone

I believe that this is actually probably true, due 2 facts you missed. In the Sonic SatAM there's an episode where they travel to an Atlantis like ancient city and, if my memory serves me right, another episode there is a scene where Sally asks Nicole to decode "ancient mobian writing." (though this could've been in the Archie Sonic the hedgehog comic, but I do know that this event happened in one of these medias.)
+ghrocker31 the cartoons and comics are not cannon to the games, but true that Sonic's word has parallel to ours.
You're both right and wrong, the comics have ungone a rather cheesy continuity reset and now write the story around the games. though they take a bit of an artistic license due to the fact the comics need more characters to keep it interesting.
But yes they may have different continuities, however the lore shows that there are alternate dimensions. which it's not unreasonable to assume that these different continuities could be alternate parallel dimensions.
What the godlike beings could be? It might be the Ancient Ones from Archie Comics. I might be wrong, but the masks they wore were similar to the totem poles...
