In this video, we delve into the fascinating world of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons in 1993. Specifically, we'll be exploring the story behind why two Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons that aired that year, and the role that DIC played in their production.
Following Sonic the Hedgehog's debut Sega game for the Genesis in 1991 Sonic was huge.
We'll take a closer look at the classic Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) animated series that debuted in 1993. We'll discuss how this show captured the hearts and minds of fans worldwide, thanks in no small part to its memorable characters, exciting action sequences, and catchy theme song.
We'll also explore the lesser-known Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon that also began airing in 1993. This series took a very different approach to the Sonic mythos, and we'll examine how it differed from the other Sonic show of that year.
Throughout the video, we'll discuss the key players involved in the creation of both shows, including the production company DIC. We'll also touch on the impact that these Sonic cartoons had on the wider cultural landscape, and how they continue to be beloved by fans to this day, especially the Saturday morning Sonic the Hedgehog that has lived on through fan-created projects.
So if you're a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, or simply interested in the history of animation, be sure to tune in and join us on this nostalgic journey back to 1993.

I still remember watching the darker Sonic cartoon in my grandparents basement. It had serious vibe to it. It felt important, cool and urgent. Scenes from that cartoon still pop in to my head today. I loved it so much.
Growing up I was confused af ; I hated the daily show; loved the SatAM. For years I thought I was mixing things up. Never knew there was two separate shows.
Of the two Sonic cartoons, I would prefer the dark cyber apocalypse over the slapstick one. It had a great plot and fantastic cast, especially Jim Cummings as Robotnik
100%. The Darker one was amazing. The slapstick one felt like any other generic cartoon, it had little beyond the character designs that screamed Sonic.
Jim Cummings also played the master from fallout 1
The freedom fighter cartoon was a lot closer to the video game than the slapstick series
@@donutlordband24 Jim Cummings is one of those ultra prolific Voice actors who has played everything. He's the reason why Playing the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Game with the handicap of "Only Use Animated Movies" is not a handicap at all.
Apples and oranges. One was an elementary school aimed after school series produced for syndication, the other was for preteens and older. Both accomplished what they set out to do.
I was always baffled about why there were TWO Sonic cartoons starring Jaleel White, both produced by Dic, airing roughly at the same time. Thank you for answering this long-running childhood curiosity, guys!
And then just to really make things confusing, Sonic underground. The third Sonic show mad by Dic and easily the most forgettable and controversial because nobody wanted a musical version of the Sonic universe with a couple of who cares OC's.
Just a confusing mess.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu the crazy thing is at the time I hated Sonic Underground but years later I ended up liking it lol. Still like the other 2 more of course.
@@FrankieD8283
I feel like most people who do enjoy underground do so ironically.
It's just not a good show, it's like they tried to take the previous 2 shows and smash them together. So it had this weird drama mixed with kinda comedy and the animation style of the more comedic Sonic show and then (awful) music. It was just a hodgepodge of stuff. Add to that a bunch of non-canon original characters that never appeared in anything else and you just have a very forgettable kind of show. The only reason I think most people remember it is because it was such a weird out of nowhere version of Sonic. It took everything people liked about the previous two shows and kind of ruined it honestly.
Underground SHOULD have been Sacrifice for SATAM Season 3.
@Conrado Javier well a fan made season 3 is in the works
God, every glimpse into the inner workings of SEGA during the 90's always makes me question how in the world that company stayed afloat at all.
If you haven't already - the book Console Wars only validates this comment
@@osubreeze yep, the entire period between the end days of the Genesis, the launch and failure of the 32X, and the rise/fall of the Saturn/Dreamcast is maddening and wild.
The 90's were a helluva drugs.
The fact of the matter was Sega US and Sega Japan did not just not get along but we're constantly at loggerheads with each other. The 32X should never have existed and Japan should have put their foot down but for some reason they just made one bad decision after another. Management has always been the problem at Sega. The upper management has always been the downfall of the entire company even to this very day.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu You can really see that Sega of America was never thinking far enough ahead, and was solely fixated on the here and now. They had to have a new Sonic game EVERY YEAR. They had to have some sort of hardware upgrade EVERY YEAR.
Yes, the 90s were a very different time. This was the era when a computer which was considered "top of the line" one year would be unable to run the following year's biggest games without some kind of hardware upgrade.

@@TheConcertCruizer did you like your own comment?
@@ShinySephiroth1 No. Why would I?
SatAM still holds up pretty well today. That was a great show. And the Archie comic that continued from it lasted for almost 20 years.
Oddly enough, the Archie comics started out much closer to the light-hearted "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" series and then quickly shifted into being more like the "Sonic the Hedgehog" cartoon. Then, after 50 issues, they scrapped both of those and created a storyline that turned Robotnik into Eggman so it was more in line with the games. The lore of the comics - which are still on-going although now under the IDW banner - is truly bonkers.
It's crazy how dark it was allowed to get at times. They had to pull them back before things got really grim dark.
Idw is completely different from Archie what are you talking about?
@@Therealones745 yep as much as I enjoy the IDW Sonic I wish we could have a continuation of Archie Sonic comics or atleast a true ending.
@@Therealones745 In my head cannon I take it as the Archie sonic had another world reboot thanks to Eggman again and just none of them remember it or unfortunately the missing characters. I know that's not necessarily true but I choose to see it that way.
@@FrankieD8283 what No! I think the Archie comics suck ass and like idw way more, as a fan of the games.
The dark sonic cartoon was one of my favorite things as a kid and I still think about it sometimes. It was around at the same time I was getting into anime and other more mature animations. It’s really good.
The fact it's one of those shows that's left forever on a cliffhanger though really does leave me conflicted over it.
Yeah it's a good show and it was a very good narrative but to leave it dangling forever is just such a crappy thing to do.
Yeah, but not like it was their fault. Pirates of Dark Water suffered the same fate.
@@Kujakuseki01
Yep, that's another good one.
I mean yeah it wasn't their choice and it wasn't their fault but it just sucks that's how it happened.
Any show left on a perpetual cliffhanger always leaves me kind of cold. It doesn't take away what the show did or was but it does lessen its impact because it didn't get to stick the landing. (or even get to make an attempt to)
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu VR.5 was brutal that way. I still sometimes wonder whatever happened to Sydney.
@@editingsecrets
You'll have to excuse me, VR.5?
I can almost place it but you'll have to tell me what that stands for.
The Dark Gritty Sonic was completely skipped by ABC in my home city of Cincinnati, in favor of local programming. I was aware the show existed, because I could occasionally catch episodes when the signal was clear enough from nearby Dayton, but it honestly added to the creepy factor for me - rumor has it there's this grim, dark Sonic cartoon that you can only see through the static when the weather is right.
I wonder if that wad also the case where I was. I do not ever remember seeing the darker cartoon at all. Had no idea it even existed until the internet told me it did.
I remember both of these cartoons.
Here in the UK we had a separate comic series from the Archie Sonic comics. "Sonic the Comic" being very much it's own beast. They actually did a storyline where Robotnik takes over the world, and one where they give him the look he had in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and somehow made that menacing.
That was the REAL version of the Milton Knight design for Robotnik; the AoSTH version was just a stupid, rumpdy doppleganger. :)
Loooooooved Sonic the Comic
A detail you missed that was definitely worth noting: the Team Sea3on cover of Fastest Thing Alive was performed by Johnny Gioeli, the lead singer of Crush 40, the band responsible for the music of the Sonic game series since Sonic Adventure.
Well now ain't that such a baab.
Funny you mention the Archie Comics, you should do an episode on that. Its a pretty insane rabbit hole
What's the guy's name that I should know. The guy who took a bunch of his original characters and made it a giant mess.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu ken "the is my oc don't steal" penders
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu Oh, he's much, much more than that. He also included a "parody" (if that's the right word) of a Holocaust poem in his Knuckles comics, just with Sonic characters/races
and wanted to - but failed to - write a story about Sally losing her virginity to Geoffery, who was older than her (and she was a minor)
and he admited to not give a damn about Sonic as a game character, instead treating him purely as a comic character, particularly one that he could use to insert the ideas for his rejected "original universe" comic - that's why the Knuckles comic turned out the way it did
and he ALSO admitted that he doesn't approve other writers using his ideas, nor did he read other writers' work for reference (that's why there were so many plot holes and plot drops back then)
*and* he denied Ben Hurst's (one of the big writers of SatAM, mostly the 2nd season) idea for the 3rd season by presenting Ben's offer in a bad light to SEGA, while at the same time trying to submit _his own_ idea for SatAM continuation (a movie called "Sonic Armageddon"; he even made a pitch video that can be found on YT). Not to mention he badmouthed Ben after the latter's passing.
AND he has recently announced the release of the first chapter of his comic, "THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES" (he likes using capslock for brand names), which turns out is just a reprint of the "25 years later" storyline from Archie Sonic, just with a single page to connect it to later chapters
And probably more that I can't remember. Ken is nuts.
@@robertlupa8273
I mean the man's reputation precedes him that's for damn sure. The fact he's got an ego as big as all outdoors and like you say he's completely unhinged yeah all that sounds about right from the various things I've heard.
You somehow always post videos of shows I vaguely recall from my childhood, but it never fails that I'm absolutely ecstatic to see them covered. Well done.
The choice of that specific toy store sweepstakes for the ad break hit me like a brick wall.
Iykyk.
Hello Em from S3 - thanks for the shout out babe. ❤
See. I only remember the goofy one with scratch & grounder. I was astounded to learn later that the 2nd cartoon was even a thing. Thanks for covering this. Really appreciate your work and presentation.
Both shows were good for their genres and age demographic.
It's worth noting that Russi Taylor only played Tails in the original unaired pilot for AoStH. (Which also featured Jim Cummings as Robotnik like in SatAM instead of Long John Baldry.) In the actual show, Tails was Christopher Welch.
Good to know!
Yeah, both of these cartoons made my childhood. SatAM will always be one of the best TV cartoons of the 90s for me, but I've also gained more of an appreciation for AoStH due to just how off-the-wall and wacky it could be (in other words: it captures the spirit of the games).
I remember being so confused as a kid, not knowing it was two different cartoons 😅
One thing's for sure you knew which version because of the intro song alone and the general tone also. One was grimdark the other ridiculously light-hearted.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu I was never really into the show, I'd more just be changing the channels and see Sonic and be confused why sometimes it was serious and other times goofy.
I loved both shows as a kid but SatAM as an adult is so good. I wish it got a 3rd season.
Man, Sonic was the cornerstone of my childhood and teen years, honestly up to adulthood too. I actually got Issue 0 of the comic off the rack at a Walden Books. Then the SatAM cartoon premiered the weekend I was forced to move to a new town because my folks split up, it was a balm to me seeing my favorite videogame / comic book hero in a gritty and mature cartoon. I actually resented Adventures because it felt like a dumbed down version of the show. But long after the cartoon ended, I kept up with the comic right up to the end. It broke my heart when the comic ended, just 20 issues before it hit 300! But like most 90s kids I found the internet Sonic fan base. I mainly looked up stuff at TeamArtail for years and that was my introduction to "Original Character (do not steal)." I came up with a few myself as well as inserting the idea in my own crazy fanfics of Sonic getting a Guyver unit (hence my name). I'm even a Patreon of Team Sea3on.
That's where I got my Sonic #0 too!
Sonic SatAM was and still is to me the best animated adaption Sonic has ever gotten.
Sonic x sucks
While I remember both shows, I'm more familiar with the aftermath of trying to combine the tones of both in the pages of Archie's Sonic comic. It far outlasted the shows and lasted for over 200 issues. Sonic as a franchise is very much held together by the fanbase. For further examples beyond Team Sea3on, look at the writing credits of last year's Sonic Frontiers and the entirety of 2017's Sonic Mania. Both games are fully published by Sega.
When I got back from Desert Storm on the week of the 4th of July ‘91, I went to the Sears outside Ft Bragg and bought the Genesis Sonic bundle and 36” RCA TV. I still have that Genesis and cartridge and my kids grew up playing all the classics on it.
I love Satam. It's so dark, and filled with emotion.
And I'm thrilled you mentioned the work of Team Sea3on. They're dedication and determination is astonishing
SatAM is also genuinely a ton of fun. It's fully aware of the kind of character Sonic is, and so throws him into a new, darker setting whilst keeping his daring-do, wits and bravery intact. The end result? Some of the most fun you could ever have with an adventure show that also does the titular character justice (at least in Season 1, which I'm familiar with). I also dig how they actually made a reason for Sonic to use the Rings he picks up, not unlike what the film series would do in the present day.

For once, one of the commercials shown actually sucker punched me back to my childhood as I deeply recall seeing that dozens of times while watching adventures of
I wonder whatever happened to the lucky kid who won that contest...
For a while now, I thought I made up the fact that I watched that darker Sonic cartoon. I kept searching for “90s Sonic cartoon,” but all I ever found was the goofier version. I could have sworn there was a princess and a deposed king, but it seemed like the internet had forgotten about it. Or it never existed.
So thanks for bringing it back up. I never knew there were two Sonic shows back then. That makes a lot more sense.
Same story as me. I saw that show once as a kid, and it burned itself into my mind... but when I actively looked for it, I only found the sillier show for _years,_ until I convinced myself that it had been a dream. I found it again on RUclips as a young adult.
They have the complete series at Target. Just picked it up yesterday.
The finger thing was probably for two reasons- Internally, Sega had a rather strict style guide illustrating exactly how to depict Sonic across games and media. Though, DIC wasn't bound to follow that and Sega of Japan already didn't like how he was looking in the show. Second reason is title screens and game boxes, where Sonic's fully fingered hands are very visible and feature him holding up a finger to indicate which game it was. Since they had just finished 2, were starting on 3, and spent a lot of time and money on those title intros, box art, and subsequent marketing- they were making sure the show and comics didn't conflict with that.
Like many people my age and slightly older, my exposure to AOSTH was primarily through old-school RUclips Poop, and saying that out loud made me realize that YTP is barely a thing anymore
8:15 and thus, Chris-chan was born.
Yep, he won that contest.
I'm glad to finally have an explanation on this because in the UK all we saw was the full run of Adventures, then Sonic the Hedgehog just popped straight into the same timeslot. The UK broadcasterse never acknowledged the change and seemed to treat it as if it were all the same show. so there was no warning that the style and tone was about to completely change.
I remember this happening on channel 4 and it confused the hell out of me
Yeah the tones are not compatible whatsoever.
One is insanely lighthearted and cartoonish the other is very much more grimdark.
The worst is the fact that the better version you didn't get anything even resembling a decent ending. I mean ending a series on a huge cliffhanger is just the worst.
I knew what was going on only because I happened to have the issue of Sonic the Comic which had a puff-piece about the two shows.
I know SatAM has or had a better reputation, but at the time I preferred Adventures, and in my experience that's the general opinion of Brits around my age.
My younger brother turns 30 today, and he was a Sonic mega-fan as a kid. We both loved AOSTH, though never watched SATAM when it aired. I owe a lot of my sense of humour to the pure wackiness of AOSTH, though have since warmed up a lot to the more serious storytelling of SATAM.
SatAM was my jam as 10 year old me couldn't get enough of 1) the theme song 2) the darker story and 3) how the storyline for Uncle Chuck broke my heart until he was restored.
Terrific video! Satam still holds a very special place in my heart. I’m very happy to rewatch that series on my DVD set copy anytime. Adventures had its ups and downs. It was certainly never as good as Satam but I have a very strong fondness for it! I will certainly never forget the thrill of when I first saw the cliffhanger ending of the second season. Gave me chills the first time! That’s a favorite Sonic moment for sure!
My best Sonic memory from my childhood was winning a copy of Sonic 3 from a McDonald's sweepstakes. Early '94, McDonald's had jumped on the Sonic 3 hype train leading up to its release on February 2nd, a.k.a. "Hedgehog Day." I was 9 and enjoyed the two cartoon shows, but I didn't even own a Sega Genesis. I did log many hours of playing Sonic 2 on the demo unit at my local video store the prior summer, so I was deeply a Sonic fan.
So I persuaded my dad to take me to McDonald's to get a Sonic 3 Happy Meal and enter the sweepstakes. I filled out the sheet of trivia questions on the side of the Happy Meal bag and mailed it to the enclosed address. Five months go by, and I forget about the sweepstakes. I'm outside playing with friends on a warm May day, and my sister tracks me down because a package had arrived in the mail for me. I open it and I'm thoroughly shocked to find a copy of Sonic 3 and an index card congratulating me for winning the sweepstakes.
But since I don't have a Genesis to play it on, I talk Dad into buying me one for Christmas later that year as my one and only present. Fortunately enough, it was bundled with Sonic 2, so now I had both Sonic games to play on my new Sega Genesis console.
SatAM is still the greatest cartoon ever! It's too bad that Sally and the Freedom Fighters won't show up again in Sonic media or video games due to Sega's new rules.
What is that rule?
@@andrewcarlton6196It's a bit more complicated than that. The SatAM storyline "continued" throughout the Archie publication for at least a decade and 200+ issues. A combination of factors ranging from Sega of Japan taking more control over the game series' direction to one of Archie Comics' main writers(Ken Penders) suing for intellectual ownership for his contribution to the comic series that pushed the SatAM concept into the greyest of Grey Areas of the entire franchise. Once SEGA and Bioware collaborated on a Sonic RPG called Sonic Chronicles, Ken Penders filed lawsuits against all three entities on the premise that Chronicles used his ideas without compensation. This caused Archie to reboot the comic series with a new writer, Ian Flynn. Often called the Post-Genesis Wave run, Ian and a few others(including Evan Stanley, Tracey Yardley and Spazinite) were able to salvage much of the comic's lore and in turn meld it into something closer to the game series that's still praised to this day.
(There's about several breakdown videos about Ken Penders floating on RUclips including a video by ComicDrake which I would recommend.)
But in short, Ian Flynn is still writing for the Sonic series and has publicly reaffirmed that he and the others have plans to reimplement the Freedom Fighters into the IDW Sonic series(or games series as a whole) and is continuously pitching the word to SEGA higher-ups for the green light. Not too long ago Morio Kishimoto, who's one of the producers of the recent Sonic Frontiers game, expressed interest in bringing the Freedom Fighters into future Sonic content such as a mainline game.
All of this is to say that it's not a matter of "if", but a matter of "when"; fandom discourse be damned.
@@SoulcialEpiphany
Yeah Ken Pender's is one of the worst people to ever get involved with the Sonic universe. He really did cause a lot of problems and basically forced Sega to make changes and retcon things, which sucks. I'm glad that the freedom fighters are completely basically blackballed from the Sonic universe entirely that's always good news. But it's a shame that his behavior probably guaranteed that we'll never get the official animated conclusion to the SatAm storyline which again, sucks.
@@SoulcialEpiphany stop lying, sega has shot down his proposal multiple times. He wants them to return but they never will

It still blows my mind these were airing at the some time. Like I can accept there were two very different Sonic cartoons but the fact they happened at the same time is so confusing for me
It's incredible how well the content on these videos is organized.
You've jumped the shark. This episode is everything I've been wanting for three decades. You can't top this for my enjoyment (but I'll still watch all your future ones).

As a Sonic freak as a kid i do remember being completely confused by there being 2 completely different shows and having to catch re-runs too finish the story (in the UK we didn't get the Archie comics) AND THEN got even MORE confused when there was a 3rd show based around Sonic in a band with his new brother and sister...AND THEN GETTING REALLY CONFUSED BY THE ANIME OVA THING
For personal matters both Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon shows are good in their own right. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is a good saccharine cartoon show with 65 episodes in one season that's fun, sweet, and light-hearted and it has friendship, compassion, and love with the vile villain Dr.Robotnik trying to take over Mobius but Sonic will always defeat him at every turn and there's the hilarious slapstick humor that makes the show funny as well. But what I find disturbing is Sonic and Tails running all over Mobius and not having a home or place to live. Everybody should have a home and Sonic and Tails could've bought or built a home either way. Sonic the Hedgehog SATAM is great and stands the test of time which is darker and edgier than the light-hearted cartoon show Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog SATAM has drama and love in it as well. Sonic the Hedgehog SATAM is full of action, adventure, and greatness and it's based on a true story with 2 seasons and it should've gotten a 3 season a long time ago about a ragtag bunch of misfits all teaming up who call themselves the freedom fighters and living in a village called Knothole Village they call their home and they make plans to defeat and overthrow the tyrannical Dr.Robotnik that is scarier than his previous version of the light-hearted cartoon show Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog who has taken over and polluted Mobius and even though the freedom fighters have their differences they put them aside and work together to stop, defeat, and overthrow Dr.Robotnik and restore Mobius to it's former glory. Now this is more like it in Sonic the Hedgehog SATAM Sonic and Tails finally having a home and a place to live and no more running around Mobius. Sonic the Hedgehog SATAM is arguably the best Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon show that stands out and comes out on top and Sonic and Tails have a team of freedom fighters with them to save Mobius and the world.
I'm surprised you guys didn't mention Long John Baldry as Dr. Robotnik in Adventures. It's such a unique take on the character that I've yet to see anyone replicate his deliciously hammy performance. I just wish he were still around to know of his legacy despite AoStH being considered the lesser of the two shows.
I think it might be for the best Baldry died before Robotnik became a hit. He probably wanted to be known more for his music.
The line about editing in the Raycon ad had me laughing right from the start. What a great primer for the rest of the episode.
Hello Dan, just wanted to say I've been really enjoying watching Secret Galaxy, every Thursday I look forward to seeing new episodes, had no idea there was two different Sonic the Hedgehog series at the same time! 🙂
I remember arguing with kids on the playground that I was watching a second, different Sonic cartoon that they were. It was kind of an urban legend at the school because of syndication in Canada where the crummier one was only airing on extended cable, which was relatively rare in most households at the time.
I had similar experiences but they didn’t believe me because I lived in the US on the west coast and they aired the show at 8am eastern time which was 5am my time. No one on the west coast was getting up that early to watch that show, so it’s was like a myth on the playground.
@@moparjoel1
Then again that was true for a lot of cartoons that aired in syndication in the early morning. There was a whole lot of stuff that would show up that other people would never believe because they would never be up that early/late.
The Adventures of Sonic was on TV the most, but the second show I didn't even know existed until I saw it on TV during vacation. I saw it a few times at home, but there where no listings for it anywhere and it seemed like it only showed up super early in the morning or late Saturday before noon

first off, the James dressed as Sonic Funhaus clip was awesome..... when the gang was all together for the first several years, that channel was magic.
Ive waited YEARS for a retrospective on SatAM and it was well worth it. This is one of my all time favorite shows and even though its obscure to outsiders it means so much to those who loved the show and read the Archie comics for 25 years of its run.
When I was a kid I always thought that Adventures was meant to be a prequel to SatAM. I figured at some point Robotnik managed to get his stuff together and conquered the planet.
"Blue" and "Tooth" are the last things a chilli-dog sees before the end...
One thing I didn't know about the AoStH series was that the actor who played Dr Robotnik was also a singer on the British Pop charts. His hit song "Let the Heartaches Begin" was featured in a Sonic Shorts video.
I feel like a lot of people remember that particular version of robotnik because of RUclips poops. If you know, you know.
Just watched this episode with my son, as sonic is his favorite. Thank you for that opportunity
I cannot watch that "Watch and Win" sweepstakes ad anymore without thinking of a certain infamous content creator...

I'm glad you made this. I thought I was going crazy , cause I remember mixing these cartoons up and wondering why , one was so cool and serious and next time I watched it, it was goofier. I really like the Sonic The Hedgehog Series, the weekly ... the good one :D
Oh hell yeah I just got into this channel lately and I was hoping you'd cover the 90s Sonic cartoons. SatAM especially was my favorite series as a kid and holds a special place in my heart to this day. Not only did we get somewhat of a continuation with the Archie comics (that, while a bit of a mixed bag I love as well) we're also getting a fan-made season 3 which looks super promising.
Gotta Go Fast! I remember reading the Archie Comics as a kid. It was a very interesting and weird transition watching both of these shows, but it was also very cool. I liked both, and got to see them both as a kid. I can't say I remember watching every episode, but I saw enough of them that I can still remember some of them now. The new movies are such a great homage to the original games and a lot of the other materials produced over the years, and I can't wait to see the third one as well!
Secret Galaxy I'd love to see you cover Mysterious Cities of Gold.
Great, now that theme song is stuck in my head.
The cut to James from Funhaus was a whiplash, a coalescence of two of my favourite channels on RUclips here. The best form of whiplash!

Oh holy CRAP, I was today years old when I learnt Grounder was a MOLE robot.
To this day I'm endlessly disappointed by the cliffhanger that never got resolved for Sonic Dark. That show is the first time I can remember a kid's cartoon not condescending to me.
That kid saying "Prizes may vary" has lived rent-free in my head for decades now.
As a kid, I absolutely thought this was just one series that took a really dark turn!
I love this channel so much. I get the nostalgic feels weekly, and it really makes me feel so good that I lived during the airing of these wonderful, and at times not so wonderful, cartoons.
Another fantastic episode! I have fond memories of the Sonic cartoons. Special kudos for the ad read at the beginning. The run-on sentence bit made me spit out my cereal laughing. Your work is truly great entertainment!
Up for four minutes.
So didnt click quite as fast as Sonic, but confound it i loved both of these cartoons!
i was always hoping you'd cover these shows- so happy you got around too it! both these series were a huge part of growing for me, especially he more serious show! \o/
I never even knew these were separate shows.
That commercial, I can't escape. If you ever look up who won that, enjoy the rabbit hole you're about to fall down...
0:42 HAHAHAHA
The humor in the writing is *Chef’s Kiss
As a kid i did not realize these were different shows. I just thought they were showing episodes out of order
Darker Sonic is definitely one of my comfort cartoons, but I still watch the slapstick one now and again just to jog down that memory lane.
I love your long breath commentary. It adds character.
Finally! I been asking for this episode for years!!!!
That Toy Galaxy prop script is a trooper if I‘ve ever seen one
Sonic brought me here. the "HAve you seen this man " twin peaks poster behind you is why im staying
Sonic's stranger danger PSA was as hilarious as the GI Joe PSAs.
I loved Sonic SatAM. ^_^ Still one of the best shows from my childhood.
I swear for the longest time I thought the dark sonic cartoon was something I dreamed and never knew it actually existed. I saw it once in reruns probably late 90s and never saw it again hence why I was floored when I finally found it a decade later while looking up other old cartoons
Man these Sonic Cartoons! I remember trying to get up every weekend morning to try to watch them but its either I wake up too early or too late... and I never got to finish it...
But thats the fun part about cable TV!
Can you do a documentary over the Archie Sonic comics? While they were based on the cartoons they continued for over 20 years with their stories centered around those characters.
"The Fastest thing alive" is still one of the best soundtrack.
Thank you sir for this update video I never knew this before you re so amazing with details sir.
sonic colors was the first game i ever beat as a kid. sonic the hedgehog 2 was the first game i ever bought with my own money. they both hold special places in my heart for that
I some how missed the Sonic the Hedgehog series but always caught reruns of Adventures. Sonic Underground was always my favorite growing up, I had just gotten a new brother and sister around that time and i thought I was cool we had that in common.
I was already around twelve years old when the two Sonic cartoons came out, so you could say that the Saturday morning one was more my speed.
When the video starts with 5 racing puns in the first 15 seconds and none even forced, things will be gold
A+ video!
What a crazy strategy for promoting a cartoon!
I actually won the KayBee Toys sweepstakes for this in the commercial. You had to write down the moral at the end of each episode for an entire week. $1000 at KB Toys went a good distance
I'm looking forward to Team Sea3on in how they will continue SATaM past Season 2. :)
The theme song from the Saturday morning one is a banger
I have been summoned.
Waited for this episode! And seems you left place for Sonic Underground :)
Love and own both. Followed the comics for years so it was nice to see it on tv back in the day
