Bach - 15 inventions BWV 772-786 | Netherlands Bach Society

- Like the ricercares of the Renaissance and early Baroque, Bach’s 15 inventions, performed by various young performers for All of Bach, are experiments (here very concise ones) on a musical idea, a theme and a new way of combining lines. In tiny doses, the player can thus familiarise himself with the effect of music and with Bach’s genius. Bach’s 15 inventions are in the Klavierbüchlein, the exercise book that Bach compiled around 1720 for his eldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on April 16th 2016 at Ottone, Utrecht. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.

comment from 3 years ago??
NBS, quick question: Do you plan on recording/releasing the 15 Sinfonias (3-part inventions) any time soon? (perhaps in a similar format to the 2-part Inventions)
Kanji ? So he is japanese ? Great player is born from japanese children , too .
@@johnchessant3012that’s what I’m wondering too, the video was uploaded 9 months ago but the comment was posted 3 years ago. Definitely not important but, Interesting.
So glad that these young people will have Bach with them for the rest of their lives!
you can say that... its baching them up
They are luckyyy
Hello Bernard Greenberg!!
You’re a legend Bernard 👏
@@Nooticus Thank you!
Everyone is playing really beautifully. I wish I could shake their hands personally and tell them how important to me what they are doing is.
Do not shake their hands too hard they need them to play😄
Agreed
they have a link for donations in the describtion
No.4 D minor was FIRE 🔥
As the great Andras Schiff put it: " Some say classical music is in crisis, but that's ridiculous. Never before did we have so many young people playing Bach, and in my experience they often prefer him over other composers"
WHAT a gorgeous idea to do this with the next generation!!! 🙏
Here is Kanji Daito as a little boy already playing gorgeously. He started out an artist and he is grown into a magisterial artist.
As an amateur player i'm not sure whether this is more beautiful or depressing😅 Seriously, what an awesome idea!
Haha, I got exactly the same reaction :D!
beautiful; you should never compare yourself to others. music isnt about that
These kids have been practicing hard, believe me!
@@dnuma5852 It was a joke for Christ's sake...
@@pierrefranckx6363 there was some truth in it
RIP Martin Spaink who was in the audience :(
Amazing young talents... so important to keep Bach's music alive.
So extremely impressive to watch and hear. I guess I wouldn't be able to guess that they all were young performers if I didn't have the video to watch.
And of course it is refreshing to see that Bach can speak to people of all ages!
What a gifted children! Unbelievable!
There are no races, there are only human souls. These magnificent wonderful players give us hope for a better tomorrow.
My second time watching theses performances. Theses kids are amazing!
Anyone who thinks the two-part inventions are simply just 'training pieces' needs to listen to this stunning video! Incredible, every single invention!
Wow! Such a young age to play so well!
Great job! You all played so well! So great that you guys have the opportunity to play music like this on a real harpsichord!
Como amateur de 32 años que difícilmente acaba de aprender Bach 2 Part Invention No.8 (en piano), solo cabe dar la enhorabuena a estos genios.
Thank you for combining all of Bach's Invention! It's now easier to listen through this one video than the playlist :)
Superb performances and what a brilliant idea to let these pieces be recorded by the kind of performers they were intended for... Thank you!!
I see a young Mozart in all of these gifted prodigies. So much Music to be heard. Life is beautiful again.
These kids are just astonishing, bravo to all and thank you for posting such a treat.
I am so happy to see so many young people interpret Bach in this way, I see that idiocy has not managed to take over the minds of all the young people in the world.
So lucky of them to play real harpsichord. I remember my piano lesson days when, instead of playing on my dad's old piano, I had to switch my Yamaha keyboard setting into harpsichord only to immerse myself in his preludes and fugues.
My mother (born 1924) had to spend a lot of time practicing the Inventions when she was a little girl. Her teacher (who happened to be her uncle) made her sit Indian-style on the piano bench so that she couldn't even touch the pedals, in order to get her to perfect her articulation.
I still do exactly this 🥲
What an enchantingly beautiful performance! Thank you to the young and talented performers as well as the Netherlands Bach Society. This is truly a gift to humanity! Love live Bach’s music! 🎶
Je suis surpris par l'impassibilité de ces enfants capables d'interpréter avec autant de subtilité cette merveilleuse musique .......
As the world experience trouble and suffering, these young musiciens give hope to music lovers.
Danno speranza a tutti.
🎶🕊❤🌍
Great idea! Bravo Netherlands Bach Society!
It is so beautiful to see these new talents.
great idea for a recital and they all did so well. love it!
They all play with intelligence and a sense of beauty and clarity. Wonderful. Every generation seems to bring forth the talents to bring to life this at-first-sight dry stuff students meet when studying the keyboard. What a beautiful idea to include "beginners" from different races and ages to perform these inventions in your encyclopedia of Bach's music.
A big thank you for this beautiful performance you all play Bach's music absolutely wonderful
Pure Bach beauty🥺 So impressive
A guaranteed audience considering most will have been the mums and dads;-)
Seriously, an awe inspiring performance. Thanks for this.
How beautiful the young energy & ancient flow!
What a pleasure. I'm so happy there are such talented kiddos interested in keeping this musical instrument alive for the rest of us 💖
All of their decorations are so clean!
This series is so GREAT ! ! ! Wonderful to hear Bach as played by these young artists. Each of them seems to be a major talent. Especially remarkable, is that it seems all but one had only played piano before. Also that each performer had only one take at each piece, so at the time of recording these are all first takes !
The past genius of Bach brought so movingly to life by talented youth; the future of this incredible musical gift to humanity. A truly inspired concert concept. Bravo NBS and performers. Thanks too to those who teach and keep the flame of knowledge alight.
This is the future of mankind according Saint Bach. ecumenism and universal fraternity induced by music and faith. Congrats and thanks for the superb BNS one more time for this message of peace and hope.
excellent endeavor ... God bless those who teach and parents who support these wonderful children to play the so amazing Bach music.
by far one of the coolest and sweetest All of Bach videos! thank you for sharing this.
This is such a wonderful idea!!! I am so proud of these musicians! I am so thrilled to see such diversity thriving in classical music.
Wonderful ! Brava ! We need more keyboard youngsters like her. The world needs you !
All kinds of awesome. Gorgeous playing all round. Reminds us that music is eternal and beyond age and experience even. Bravo / brava.
What a refreshing recording of the Inventions! So Pure.
marvelous, wonderful! What a talent it raises our 💙 to Heaven key reminds the seventeen years... at the organ
Marvelous and not just because of the young players. The piece benefits immensely from the slightly slower tempo, each key touched with loving intent. Ahh!
Fantastic articulation. Makes all the difference whether it sounds like musical ideas combining or a sewing machine.
Excellent and inspiring Bach. Well played!
Beautiful, inspiring, awesome indeed
The world needs all of you ! Bravo to all
The future is bright for these young ones! Amazing talent and skills!
Wonderful! Astonishingly mature interpretations. Great!
Maravilloso. Todo un regalo para los oidos
Thank you! Very nice
God bless all of you!
What a team! Beautiful operation.
Thanks to Netherlands Bach Society for another wonderful gift, famous Johann’s invetions, this time touching 😔 because remainds me how much I enjoyed playing them long time ago 🎵❤️🎶
Excellence of smooth timing is well noted in music. Rounded and intuitive timing of musical interpretation.
Nice tries are another beautiful construct.
Beautiful! Congratulations to all these young and amazing artists!
Thanks for sharing these young talented pianists, they all are awesome, love them all, Bach's musics are not easy to play, these young pianist must have worked very hard to be able to improvise. ❤
Que graça, mas que maravilha! Netherlands Bach Society sempre a surpreender (obrigado pela partilha)..
I try to play these inventions most days as warm-up etudes, but on the piano. It is very impressive to hear them played by such wonderful young musicians, on this beautiful harpsichord. An excellent presentation. Thank you!
Magical. Absolutely sublime. I was especially taken with Kanji Daito's performances. Simply amazing.
Beautiful, thank you for sharing.
How wonderful children are... Thank God!
Lindo... abraços do Brasil! 💚🎶🇧🇷

Amazing to hear each player's unique touch/expressiveness- I didn't appreciate the extent to which the harpsichord allows this to come through.
Klare und saubere Aufführung dieser fünfzehn kompakten und fein komponierten Inventionen in verschiedenen Tempi mit schimmerndem Klang des jugendlichen Cembalos und mit angenehmer Dynamik. Alles ist hörenswert!
Looks so inteligent and plays so well
Geweldige talenten!! ❤️🌷
I started harpsichord lessons back in the 1970s when I was in high school. My brother and I were my teacher’s youngest students back then. So heartening to see so many youngsters playing the harpsichord so well now. Excellent articulation, lovely quiet technique. Gustav Leonhardt would be proud. I’m 65 now and I play more piano these days, Chopin and Beethoven, but my harpsichord experience has always informed my understanding and interpretation of the later composers. Whether these kids go on to have careers in music or not - I think many will - they will always have a solid foundation to both play and enjoy music. That’s a wonderful gift to have.
And I just realize that I’m at the end of this video and I don’t think I’ve heard a single mistake, save for maybe an ornament that didn’t come out quite right, which is amazing. This pieces are simple, but they’re not THAT simple.
How do you rate the difficulty of playing the Inventions? 10 being hardest
@@caesarsneezer6992 Technically, maybe a 3-4. The notes are not difficult, but you do have to have a good left hand, since you're not just playing a bass note or chords, you have to play melodies too. But to play these pieces evenly, with clean articulation and a nice touch, as these kids do, is not easy at all. Nothing by Bach is easy because you're so exposed.
Keyboard players often rush through these pieces, (especially pianists.) Newbies to harpsichord seem to think that the "pluckiness" of the instrument is its most outstanding characteristic, so they play fast to make things plucky. But it just comes out sounding "crunchy" -- lots of noise but not a lot of substance.
In fact, it's the resonance and the transparency of the sound that is the harpsichord's most beautiful quality, imho, and playing too fast covers that up. It's a plucked instrument, like classical guitar, so you want to hear the crispness of the attack but also the roundness of the sound.
@@gatesurfer Noted. They sound to my untrained ear like they would be very difficult to master, but I will take your opinion. Thank you
Very impressive. And very inspiring.
Brava et bravo.
Meravigliosi , tutti.
Splendida una società che coltiva l opera di Bach .BRAVI.
Superb interpreter selection.
Beautiful, oh just beautiful how this video is
what a treat !
this certainly would have made the Old Master smile !

_Meisterhaft._ What a wonderful idea, what wonderful performers, what wonderful music.
Congratulations and thanks to all from windy Vienna, Scott
Beautifully played everyone!
spettacolarmente bravi, eseguono con attenzione e partecipazione (e senza tutte le smorfie che fanno certe artiste affermate) una musica affascinante.
Bravo! Amazing
Bravo you all did a awesome job
Wonderful!
Stars does this bring me back. I was an early harpsichord enthusiast. I am glad to see the torch passed. Special shoutout to Johannes Asfaw; I might tutor you on some of your articulations but that is my favorite two part invention
Excellent! If I didn't have the video I'm not sure that I would have guessed that the music were performed by young kids. :) The future is bright.
Good job!
That's such a fun way of presenting these.
(also the obvious joke "Wow, that's almost as many children as Bach had")
Bravo, very good ! !
Bunch of kids !…. Kidding
Makes me feel hopeful this music will be preserved, such beauty , lovely youth!
Wow great job 👏 👍 ❤
briliant idea to record children playing Bach's music dedicated to children. Only, these kids are artists already.
Leuk idee, mooi en terughoudend gefilmd
too cute to be true - what a gorgeous talent - thx4sharing / bedankt
"Cute" isn't the right word.
@@syncopate50 yeah right, like in uk-colony brain-washed united states, cute cannot be called cute, even though she's cute. period. but you guys have no problem with what your famous nfl is doing to children, and all those secret parties in beverly hills that the rest of the world knows about. if you have bad thoughts about the word cute, go seek help asap
My dream is to play the harpsichord someday, possibly even own one too.
Make your dreams a reality.
