Hi mate great video 👍🏼 just brought a 2013 200 series and have been watching a few videos on tuning and modifying them, I’ve just had a snorkel and air box fitted, a manta exhaust, a custom ecu tune and torque converter lock up and gearbox tune, and wow what a huge difference! We went from 121kw and 551nw at all 4. To 183kw and 885nw at all 4. And so much nicer to drive, love the 200 cheers 👍🏼
Great video and comparison of options. Just waiting until warranty is up to make similar changes to mine. Keep up the videos they are much appreciated.👍
As usual Nathan, very informative and well delivered 👍🏽. I’ve been running a Unichip with custom transmission tune and Richard’s lock up clutch since I bought my 200 new at start of 2019. This was installed as part of a full custom build by PDP in Perth. Simon and Travis spent a lot of time on the dyno making adjustments to get the best performance out of each setting. I ended up with some awesome power and torque gains without compromising reliability. I was very surprised at the fuel economy to, well as long as you don’t put your foot hard into it 😂. As you rightly said, there are pro’s for and against both custom remaps and chips. It’s very important that you do you research and work out what’s best for you.
Thanks mate! Awesome, yeah the results can be impressive either way. I think the individual tuning and adjustments for each and every engine is very important! I hear you with the fuel economy, I've increase by about 0.5L, but I think that may have something to do with my modified driving style 🤔 😂
Thanks again good unbiased view. Whichever camp you are in whether chip or remap knowing who really can do it properly is the most important and probably 80% of tuners are not very good at tuning your car. I have learned that every car is different which you mention and getting a product tailor made for your car is the key.
Your welcome mate 👍 For sure, 100% agree. The tuner and people you trust with your vehicle make all the difference... Each vehicle is unique and most customers are looking for a particular result too... Cheers
Hey mate, so the fuel economy increased by about 0.5 -1.0L per 100km. It was only a small increase, but this could of also been a driving style alteration to match the new power gains and V8 exhaust 😂
Great video Nathan, I love the remap and trans tune on my 200. We had Richards auto in Murray Bridge do ours in 2018. No faults or codes, better economy with afterwards (unless I stomp it lol) Torque converter lock up makes a huge difference too. Cheers Steve
Cheers Steve! They do make a big difference and a great mod when they are done correctly and safely! Been watching some of your videos recently, researching and gathering some info on the 30 second awning! Cheers 👍
Yes an upgrade is on the cards for my 76 series. Perhaps when I start towing. Not sure if I'm sold on a remap. I'm leaning towards unichip. One question. How has fuel efficiency been affected on your 4wd? Thanks again on another informative vid. Cheers Mick
Thanks Mick, glad you enjoyed it 👍 So the fuel economy increased by about 0.5 -1.0L per 100km. It was only a small increase, but this could of also been a driving style alteration to match the new power gains and V8 exhaust 😂 All the best with your 76'er.
What about fuel use before and after? I am going to get lock up kit, I would get a tune to get benift of mods like exhaust but I would want to stay at 18 for fuel to keep longevity.
Yeah, so fuel use went up just slightly. It only went up about 0.5L - 1.0L per 100km. Then again, its hard to say whether this has anything to do with the driving style to match the extra power and V8 exhaust 😂 The lockup kit will definitely help with some economy, but the biggest advantage is going to be reduced transmission temps. I'm getting about 15-17L/100km with my setup on the highway depending on the circumstances 👍
Hi Nathan another good episode are those figures from the Dyno for rear wheels only or all four wheels ? What was the cost for a double re-map Thanks Ant
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it 👍 Yes, that was the power at all 4 wheels, no disconnecting the drive shafts around here... I think from memory it was about $2k or a little under that. I had some other work done at the same time, makes it a little hard to remember the exact cost. Cheers, Nathan.
Cheers mate 👍 Yes, I'm looking forward to the lithium battery review too. I have officially completed the testing and the video will be released same time next Thursday!
Thanks Tom! Glad you enjoyed it. For sure, I think many people would be surprised how many hours go into these videos, from research to planning, filming to editing... it sure add's up!
Great work yet again, Your videos have the most informative content. Are you running gme xrs units? If so can you please do a video on how programme these units to just scan 3 channels ? ie ch 40,39,18 and others as required Also why the 2 antennas ?
Thanks mate. Yes, I'm running the GME XRS, one 370C and one 390C unit. I'll look to do a video down the track in relation to communication gear 👍 One antenna for each radio unit. I always run the smaller 3.1dB, due to my garage clearance, however switch over to the 6.6dB when on the tracks. Cheers.
@@XploringOz Look forward to seeing the set up, I run the XRS 330, which is the basic XRS unit and love the features, yet can’t work out how to program it to just scan a few channels rather than them all.
Seems such an emotional topic when this is raised. Another great informative video. Thank you. Probably dpchipX for me, but what to do to the 1hdfte lc100 for the year till then?
Thanks mate, yes I agree a very individual topic and something that everyone has a preference and opinion on. This is my opinion on the matter and hopefully my rationale can help others make that call too. 👍
Hey mate, the fuel consumption went up maybe 0.5 - 1.0L per 100km. It definitely didn't help too much, but then again, maybe my driving style has adapted to the extra power and the V8 exhaust a little too 🤷♂️
Fantastic job as always on the comparison Nathan. Your video has confirmed in my mind which way I will go in the future with my vehicle (something similar to what you did). The problem is that being a new vehicle (yet to take delivery), 5yrs is a long time to wait for the warranty to expire 🙃
Good YT Nathan. Have you considered installing bigger transmission coolers on your vehicle.? Once you start towing the new van, especially if you’re doing hard work it might be beneficial. I guess you can wait and see what happens with your trans temps. I found this YT interesting because I’m seriously considering doing an auto conversion on the Troopy when it arrives. I was going to do that with the torque lockup kit and as I obviously had no auto to start with I was going to address the cooling with hardware, while my wallet is out 😂. The auto conversion isn’t cheap but it’s cheaper than the coil conversion, so what the hell. I’m getting lazy in my old age & the idea of crawling through the tuff stuff, sand, mud, steep Rocky climbs without fiddling with a clutch really appeals. On another note, I recently bought a German sports car, it’s fitted with a Dual Clutch Auto. I’d never had a dual clutch auto before, always preferred manual but this thing shifts gears like a bat out of hell. Anyway, car is seriously quick, 0-100 in 4.4 seconds. I started reading about tunes for them (as you do 😂) & I got to go for a run in two different tuned versions of my car. HOLY SHEET, the first one was stage 2 tuned (Remap) & it’s 0-100 in low 3 seconds and the stage 3 tune (remap) one can pull 0-100 in 2.9 sec. I will tell you I’ve never laughed so much in all my life. I’m not really a speed driver (it’s been 35 years since I was last fined) but it’s a barrel of laughs on a country road, give this thing a little stab as you exit a bend & it realigns your spine 🤣. I would NOT consider a module for that, for high performance (sports) a remap is the way to go. On my old Troopy I had an expensive module Steinbauer. From memory that much more expensive than a remap. It had to be put on the dyno and it transformed the Troopy. So I’m thinking I will have to do a REMAP on the Troopy & obviously will do that once I decide to auto it or keep it as a manual. Since I was going to run 35 inch tyres I’m thinking the Remap will help with spinning the big rubber as I’m obviously not chasing fast 0-100 times with it 😂 Someone told me I should grow up & start acting my age the other day ……. Where’s the fun in that ? 👍
Hey mate, yeah I have considered a cooler, but I really don’t think I’ll need it at this stage with the trans lock up kit that I’ve installed previously. Even when I had the old caravan, as soon we had locked up that transmission, the temperature were sitting at very healthy levels. Even on a hot day, towing a heavy load, the trans temps won’t get much higher than 80 degrees. I don’t think I would get the value for money form the cooler. Auto conversion! That would be cool. There’s no doubt the auto transmission that Toyota make are a great unit, smooth, direct and reliable. Having one of these in a troopy would make it the perfect and ultimate tourer. 0-100 in 3 seconds! Would you feel the effects of that in the drivers seat 😆 What vehicle is it? Those dual clutches really are something else. I haven’t had much experience with them and they sure add another level of complexity to the vehicle, but they are effective! Yeah, there are some chips out there like the Steinbauer and the UniChip that are quite expensive and very effective at what they do. Nothing beats a tune on the dyno though, whether chip or remap. I’m not familiar with the gear ratio’s of the Troopy’s, but have you considered a change in the diff gears running the 35’s? This would defiantly offset some of the effect that the large rubber would have and bring all the ratios back to a factory setting. If you paired this with a tune, it would be a weapon on 35’s! Yeah…. Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional! 😂
I did custom tune on mine , massive performance improvement but still afraid from some heats range like (coolant temps and bost charges air temps ) i did lot of researches i couldn't find specific normal ranges for lc200 And thanks bro a really like ur informative vids
For sure, some great advantages there! The ranges vary so much depending on vehicle setup and driving conditions. I normally see about 80 coolant temps, up to 105 under heavy load in short bursts.
@@XploringOz thank you so much what about charged air temps? My coolant average 83 to 88 on cruise I thought it's bit higher than normal Actually ur videos very informative especially for me most on not answered questions found sulotion here
Howdy. Nathan, I normally agree with your reviews however in this instance I feel that you've missed the mark. For example, your review of "Chips" seems to be focused on the low end of the market which inevitably leads to a poor outcome (waste of money, lack of performance or too much performance until permanent damage results to the engine). Although there are only 2 or 3 high quality "Chips", these are the only ones which should be compared to an ECU map. Alternatively, any comparison should include 3 categories: remap, low quality chips and high quality chips. Regarding cost, a remap is actually cheaper than a high quality "chip" due to these chips also requiring a custom tune (therefore Dyno) specific to the vehicle. Pro of a High quality chip is that it is removable and the best ones offer the same tuning capabilities as a remap Vs pro of ecu remap being cheaper. Either way, an inexperienced tuner will result in a poor outcome for either a remap or high quality "chip". Thanks for the content, cheers
Hey mate, that’s all good. Like I said there are so many options out there and everyone has a different desired result from their vehicle and their thoughts on this subject. I agree that some chips can probably get similar results when compared with the remaps, however there are soo few out there and the prices are enormous! And then there’s the tuning on top of that. The removability is definitely a huge advantage though! I agree 100% with a poor tuner will result in a poor outcome. This is something that needs to be done by a trusted technician! Thanks mate, Nathan.
