I did all this conditioning just by playing as a child lmao I learned how to fall far after one too many times landing wrong and shooting FIRE up my leg. I distinctly remember that burning feeling when you accidentally plant your feet instead of rolling out of it
My dude really put 100 points into agility from birth. Also, you definitely seem to know what you’re talking about, have you thought of trying to participate in something like American Ninja Warrior?
Something I really love about these tutorials, is he always makes them easy, adjustable and beginner friendly. I have some deforminities in my shoulder and knee joints, and these are exercises I can _actually_ do without risking injury and pain :)
I went out to a park the other day, climbed a tree with my friend (who is afraid of any form of height that isn't standing on the ground) and he panicked and got down. Im not usually allowed outside much due to overbearing parents, and whilst im not scared of heights, I am scared of being in control of jumping off of things. So I took a mental note that I was made to climb, run, and JUMP and so I just hopped off the tree onto the ground, and I even stuck the landing. My own brain was telling me the things my dad used to tell me my whole life, that I would injure myself, break my ankle, DIE A HORRIBLE PAINFUL DEATH, if I jumped off that tree. And I stuck the landing. (I was about 9ft off the ground too) im very proud of myself ✨
These dynamic videos are super interesting to watch. Seeing while hearing is great - really makes me want to get in better health, moving so well looks like fun!
I actually underestimated how much of a quad workout falling is, I was at the gym at school and as a challenge I was doing pull-ups on the basket ring, after I did it for like 3-4 times my legs were burning for the high fall, that day I couldn't sit without using arms
you're not meant to let your hips drop below your knees, if you keep your hips higher then your thighs will take the impact but if you drop too low it all goes to the knees.
only when holding weight. What do you think they do in yoga or how people in India and Asia - they do squat right down, using the loo like that or even sewing on machine squatting in village communities
Good advice for beginners, but once you know how to move well and have basic strength, training full range of motion makes for stronger and less injury prone joints, as long as you do it carefully and gradually over time. Some really great arguments for deep squat out there.
The timing on this video is PERFECT for me. I broke my ankle indoor climbing about a month ago. I'm supposed to get the brace off on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to getting back to it, and these exercises will be Perfect to help prevent the accident from recurring 8D
@@gabrielbarros493 I was bouldering, there aren't any cables? It was a brand new problem; I got up okay, but getting down was harder. I'm very new to climbing.
@@gabrielbarros493 okay, again. I was bouldering, NOT lead climbing or belay. There are no cables. Also, being really new, I don't own a harness or ropes, and have no intention to get them because again, really new.
Also very important, do not go all the way down. Impact and force goes to your knees and can lead to injuries in the future. Recommend going to a 90° angle as any lower is harder (muscle wise).
@@wishesandfishes yes but if you are new to this and dont train much than going past 90° almost always leads to full extension. Leading to injuries in the future. But if you are training getting used to going past it is a must. But at that point you should be rolling and absorbing impact instead.
Please stop with the 90° bullshit. I'd love to see you do an at least 250cm drop without bending past 90°. Its the other way around- not bending all the way will cause damage since you barely have any range of motion to absorb the impact. I've known countless people absolutely wreck their knees by trying to not bend past 90°. Build up the required strenght, master the technique of actually absorbing the impact and please don't spread harmful misinformation
Just found you. Great stuff. I’m a former athlete we a knee that does really bend easily past 90 degree. Is there a good stretch to get those knees more flexible. I’m looking for the advanced stuff. Whatever I need to do I’ll do it.
I'm a rickety about to be 50 yo who's working on my flexibility. Oddly enough, I've always thought the 'correct way' to stretch was incorrect because I always thought why would my arm go for that far back if it wasn't meant to go that far back? So I've often done stretches like you show but not for long periods. My favorite things to do are the sissy squat exercises and I Asian squat in front of people 😂 most people say "I could never do that!"
Slipped at work and experienced that soreness. The slipping leg kept going foreward but my back leg just slowely folded gently lowering me to the ground. All the leg muscles were super sore the next day. No pain tho.
David I have an important question 🙋♀️. If your tendons are stiff, will you still be able to be balerina/contortionist level flexible? Will training my tendon stiffness decrease my flexibility? I have another (unrelated) question. I have hyper mobility syndrome and I wander wether I can do anything to make my lax joint capsule stronger. I’m very concerned with injury prevention and longevity of my joints and I want to know wether there is anything I can do to take good care of my joints. Will the exercise from this video make my joints stronger? Note: I don’t want to strengthen the muscles, I want to strengthen my joints! Once upon a time, a physical therapist gave me exercises to strengthen the muscles that support my knee because, according to her, this would help me… But she made my hyper mobility worse, because now my muscles are so strong that they pull my knee further into hyperextension everytime I straighten my knee!!!😭😭 So do you know wether/how I can strengthen my joints? Thanks so much! Your videos are a godsend!❤❤
Yes you absolutely can still be flexible with stiff tendons! “Stiffness” just means your tendons are stronger and more springy. The best thing you can do for your hyper mobility is strength training. Check out @whealth on Instagram for great hypermobility advice and content!
@@MovementbyDavid hyper flexible? Is this what I’m likely dealing with? I can touch the floor with a flat hand… but hamstring, back, well everything feels tight still. Same with the head, shoulders, back, and butt against a wall… then raising arms. I can do this without anything coming off the wall - but again, everything feels tight. My favourite & worse one is I can put my knees in my armpits - but gluts & hip flexors are so tight. I’m 54, sat too much for my work. I was a gymnast in my youth, then body builder in my young adult years.

I am not in a good relationship with sport. But I need to do it more to be in better health. One thing i hated about working out was the pain. It's just so demotivating and I'm feeling like I hurt my body. Seeing that you can workout without pain is very motivating especially since I don' care about having big muscle so thank you for inspiring me to do more sports.
When falling it's the immediate stop that causes the damage. So the best way to not get injured when falling is to extend the time of falling. Which is where plf comes in or rolls
Just had my first class at the local parkour gym, and whoa buddy did I underestimate this exact downward motion/landing thing. This video’s super helpful and makes the road ahead less intimidating. Thanks 😊
Yessssss i used to ride horses and fell off all the time as a child i just learned how to fall and vault back on with no injuries you gotta become a folding ball lol
The problem with this is that the load changes at every repetition, and controlling a sustainable amount of tension is not easy to achieve nor it stays consistent throughout the exercise. That's why we use weights: the stress on the muscles never changes, and there's much less probability of injury compared to jumping off an elevated platform.
Physical body development is so important. Not only will you feel better, but it will also help you in survival situations. That is the one thing the fat acceptance movement misses. They will be the first ones to go and blame fit people for it. I know I will receive hate comments, but just realize that all the advice that fitness trainers and doctors give you can save your life and someone else's one day.
Shock absorption, I like calling it plyometric eccentric. It's probably the most underrated form of strength training. Especially as the loads are insane - landing from these heights can put the leg muscles under 10+ times bodyweight. That's like doing 1 ton back squat.
I do parkour, and I think everybody should do at least one lesson to learn how to fall without hurting yourself in any situation, you never know what could happen next and being able to react in time is always useful
There is a lot of reading you can do on extensive and intensive plyometrics, extensive would be something like jump rope (lots of very light jumps and landings to make changes to tendon stiffness) and intensive (more intense) like 1 leg depth drops which I would not recommend to anyone who doesn't have lots of extensive work under their belt.
I love to mantle on my parelel house walls in the corridor. I always wanted to get to the topmost part of the door and hang on it, but I was scared of coming down. Video helped a ton. Thanks :)
