Brilliant advice. Saved the day wiring in a hive heating and hot water. My stat was wired to the controller unit rather than the wire box, but was just a simple single wire swap. Top man!
I have a Worcester i30 Greenstar and recently fitted the Hive Thermostat and controller. Must say it's was very simple to wire and set up not skipped a beat since. Plus can lower the temps when the wife is at home and I'm working via Hive App. Win win...
I like that feature on hive you can create an alert so when the house goes above a certain temp it will notify you, my wife gets sick of me turning it down 😂😂👍
Most of our customers who wanted smart controls went nest . because they have heard all about them. One or 3 go Honeywell. We cannot fit hive because of company policy . I've got hive and love it Because it's easy to fit and use. The worst is tado .in my opinion. And nest ant far behind it.esp if the customer doesn't know that you require a power supply for the thermostat. Either existing wire for room stat or buy the nest stand. Lovely video thank you.

With Hive - Can you have 2x thermostats (like one for the lounge one for the bedroom) - if you do - how does it behave (can you say AM heat to 21'C on lounge thermostat AND PM heat to 23'C bedroom thermostat?)
You can have the thermostatic radiator valves, if you have them on all the rads then the boiler will come on when a TRv calls for heat and others will be shut off
Do both hive and nest continue to control the water/heating if the internet goes down (I assume they do otherwise that would be stupid) but can you reconfigure them (either from the app or via the thermostat settings) if the Internet is down (I assume from the local controller/thermostat yes but not sure if the app will work locally with the controller if the Internet (or server) not available
That's a good question. Domestic gas can be like football. Lose track of what's happening and the game has changed. Heard of these programmable stats but never use them much in the commercial game.

The right control for the right customer, like you I used to contract to BG so did a few hives and it’s ideal for there customer demographic and easy to use. Nest is ok as it’s open therm so good for Baxi, ideal, viessmann boilers(combis I should add) not much room for the wires is a big pain the bum. App is easy to set up though. I personally like Tado and if possible manufacturers smart controls as they generally plug in and much smarter than third party controls.
That’s a great comment mate, right control in each situation is best way to look at the job. I’ve heard bad reviews for the Worcester RF stat and to be honest haven’t fitted a baxi one yet.
@@bluebulldog_uk if you plan on doing a baxi one it’s not RF, the room stat needs wiring back to the open therm receiver and the receiver needs a socket to plug into, a bit like the old vaillant VR921 SensoNET.
So the nests need switching wires for the stat ? Is there a wirless version. What happens if they already have a wireless stat. They dont seem vey convenient at all.
If you don’t have the wires you would have to purchase the stand separately, then it would have to be plugged in somewhere, looks rubbish to be honest with stand
Prefer the hive, easier to fit and had a few issues with nests the last couple of years, changed a couple of receivers that were still under warranty as well, and took a faulty nest out and put a hive in a couple of weeks ago
@@bluebulldog_uk They're comparable to nests - about £130ish. They're opentherm compatible as well. So easy to set up though, wiring is identical to the T3R/T4R's and the app is really intuitive.
Nest is the better Thermostat as it offers OpenTherm connectivity which saves you money on your gas bill. If your boiler has Opentherm connectivity then you use NEST. Hive is cheaper but once registered (British Gas) require a new house owner to purchase a new one - ie the device is registered to you with your email and phone number (which cannot be reset).
Nest supports opentherm so it is more superior as customer can control the water temperatures on the app if boiler supports opentherm. As an installer i prefer to fit hive because it is dead easy to fit. And u can turn on the heating on the receiver even u lose the thermostat.
Tap the centre button on the receiver and it turns the heating on. I got the nest as it's far superior in terms of features, home/away assist is great, if you're not home the heating doesn't come on and it learns when you are generally home or out and adjusts the schedule automatically for you. Opentherm is great, and simplifying installation, Nest has automatic weather compensation with no need to install an outdoor thermostat.
Nest is definitely the best jive is still behind nest is very DIY friendly tbh yes I know people that you should install it if you don't know what you're doing but nest is so much nicer

That’s good they have the built in bridge, I’ve fitted an early version of the Drayton wiser but the user controls were rubbish to be honest, sure they have changed them now from what they was 👍

Hive all the way for heat only/cylinder systems. Manufacturers controls for combi’s with weather or load comp. Too many Nest Heat Links dying at 2yrs old leaving customers without heating, utter shite. Add the awkward wiring terminals put me right off. The only feature Nest has over Hive is Opentherm and most installers/customers don’t use it.
Hive v nest should not even be a question. HIVE is absolutely dog poo all it is, is an expensive dumb on/off thermostat may as well kept the original thermostat. All they have gained is, it looks better and you can use your phone comperard to the one you took out . And now on to the nest, now that's what a thermostat should be it has all the smart features you need O/T compatible, weather comp. Learns your routine, geo fencing, I could go on with the feature of the nest

Think the idea with hive is you can control it when your out so if your out and the heating is about to come on you can turn off and save yourself money, also the geolocation helps with this 👍
Yeah I get that but a device for between £150 -£200 just so you can switch something in remotely is nonsense to me just use Alexa and a smart switch spur and a standard programmer. 😂 I point is it is a waste of money for such limited use. Imagine that same controller on a boiler that has opentherm and modulates to 3-4kW on heating? Now we’re talking!

Open therm go for nest, little bit more difficult to install but hive doesn’t do open therm 👍👍

Had both and prefer the Nest, although it did pop up with F1 error and had to restart the boiler o.0

Have a nest at mine think they are great. I also have all the google home cameras and hub so can control everything from my phone.
Seems a lot of votes for nest from the comments, I can see why as it has a lot more features, good that it all links in with google as well 👍
