    Great content as usual Bosky!
    As per me, one negative in the KTM (and most European bikes across segments) is the high compression ratio making them sensitive to low quality and low octane fuels. Time and again, this has proven to be a critical factor when traveling across the country and I've seen friends on KTMs, BMWs hunt for higher octane fuels in remote places. My two cents!

    Adding to it, I recently changed my front brake lever in my ADV 390 and it costed me 1945 INR. The technician said the cost is for adjustable lever and for non adjustable lever for 250 & 390X will come around 300-400 INR.

    Taking Himalyan is a really safe choice cause of the size of community. Whatever issue you’ll face, somebody out there might have faced it and would be out there with a solution ( we have this similar scenario in coding where stackoverflow saves the day). Compared to adv 390, being honest, if you are planning to buy new, it will just break your heart after 1 year cause a new bike is around the corner, where as the Himalyan will receive it’s next update in 8 years, making the case even stronger. And, don’t forget the resale value of Enfields. Ps not a RE fanboy, never owned one, but I respect the machines.

      You have managed to criticize RE in a very subtle and yet in a very elegant way. And being an RE owner I can say that you are NOT wrong.
      REs have too much niggles and errors to deal with. One thing RE can definitely deliver on is a consistent heritage image. But that's about it. If you are a mature rider, look for something else.
      Btw, as far as resale goes, it's not so hunky dory. I own one TB500. It has pathetic resale value and if you want to exchange it in an RE showroom, they refuse it saying they won't take 500s.

    The amount of complaining and mansplaining that goes on with new motorcycle riders these days is ridiculous. Back in the day you just hopped on two wheels if you could afford one and rode till the roads ended. The new gen riders expect Japanese engineering finesse at a desi price. These 'hard-core off-roaders' are a different story altogether. One would think they have to bunny hop fallen tree trunks on single track trails all day when all they can do is gravel patches.

    Great comparison sir.
    I am totally confused after test riding both the bikes for an hour. I feel more inclined towards ktm because of agility and the fun. However, Himalayan looks mature.
    Regarding Engine: I feel ktm is a bit more refined at mid range rpms than Himalayan. Both test ride vehicle were not managed adequately. Throttle response on ktm is spot on unlike Himalayan.
    Regarding fit n finish: Good on ktm though certain plastic parts feels flimsy and cheap. May be the concept is if it breaks just dump and replace at a cheaper cost.
    Regarding braking:I don't think ktm these days gives sintered pads from factory.It's organic pads as per my understanding.
    Overall KTM is fun to ride and keeps your adrenaline rush high. Himalayan feels a bit more mature.

    I am a proud owner of a KTM 390 Adventure 2021 on which I have done 15000km. I love the nimbleness and low weight but I'm not so fond of the suspension, low end torque and the weird electronics. The MTC is a pain. I have preordered an Himalayan 450 and find your review the best I have ever seen. Since it's still winter here in Sweden I haven't been able to test ride or even sit on a 450 and I'm a bit worried about a few things. Firstly the massive talk about vibrations. I also own a BMW F800ST which is a comfortable low maintenance and very capable bike on tarmac but honestly it has disturbing vibrations around 100-120km/h which the 390 Adventure doesn't have. If the Himalayan isn't worse than the 390 it's a breeze in my opinion. Another thing I'm a bit worried about is the seating position. In my understanding the distance between the seat and foot pins are 4cm shorter on the Himalayan vs 390 even with the seat in the 84,5 position because of better ground clearance and 1cm lower seat. To me this must mean a more "cramped" riding position with a steeper knee angle. However this is never mentioned in any review I have seen. You touched the subject when you said you were sliding forward on the seat so I suspect that the seat height is measured from the cavity and that a taller rider benefits from sitting more at the rear but what about about a relatively short rider with long legs? Will he/she be able to reach the handlebar comfortably? Anyway thanks for the best review so far.

    • @bigbearbangalore
      @bigbearbangalore  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks.
      Vibration complaint is an Indian thing. Will explain in another video. 🙂 It's got no more buzz than the 390Adv.
      The seat is tilted forward a bit and hence the mild discomfort.
      Seat height at 845 and seated back is ok to ride for taller folk. The rally seat will be available in Europe so that could be an option for you.
      But, nothing like sitting on one and riding it to know more. cheers!

Its great a bike but I regret buying it as the RE 450 and the 450 MT are due here in Australia in March and $1000 aus cheaper than the KTM. Which one would I choose above? The one thats not there, CFMOTO 450MT simply looks way better than the RE. The RE Himalayan 450 has stepped up the game. But I think KTM's new 399 Adv launching later this year will step it up even further. Also, I hope that we will see bigger Advs like the KTM690 R and Yamaha's Tenere 700 enter our market in couple of years.

    Honestly, I think the 2025 390 Adventure is going to be godlike both in ability and in price. If the spy shots are anything to go by, it's going to look, finally, like it's bigger siblings and not a jumped-up Duke. Something epic this way comes.

    you forgot honourable mention of upcoming hero adventure, it has better chance of offering better value proposition, not refrencing expulse 200 because that had entry level constraints, Hero has shown with xd440 what they can do and that's even better news. While i am waiting for tvs rtr310 in adventure tourer format (best clutch less shifts, cruise control) with suspension of himalayan, tubeless spoke wheels of vstrom650 (rest tvs has got, low end torque, electronics) 😅

    I have had my share of rides with RE (dont own one). One thing i have observed is that when you brake hard, the weight transfers to your back. Thats one of the main reasons I have not owned any of the RE's.

  • @mookyzook
    @mookyzook 6 месяцев назад

    Amazing how the Royal Enfield is the newest bike and yet the KTM still looks much more modern. The KTM engine is well proven and the RE is new and as they haven't built a liquid cooled one before who knows how reliable it will be? But the biggest problem for me is the weight, how can you have a light weight adv bike that is almost as heavy as a bigger bike? I have had my KTM for three years with no problem and I didn't buy it because it was cheap but because the power to weight ratio was so much better than the big ADV bikes I've had in the past. Therefore it's been as good on the motorway and can still go off road as much as I want to, unlike any of the other small adv bikes.
    Saying that after seeing all the reviews I will give the RE a chance when we eventually get them in the UK.

    • @bigbearbangalore
      @bigbearbangalore  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, power to weight ratio is the biggest USP of the KTM. And once one is used to that, it is no5 easy to accept heavier motorcycles.

    Currently, I have a 2020 Classic 350. I plan to upgrade it, but I am confused between the Himalayan 450, Scrambler 400X, and Guerilla 450. RE exchange cost is 1.4 lakh; because of this revaluation cost, I’m able to upgrade it. So, please advise on this.

    The rear brakes I 100% agree with Chacko. It's too sharp for my liking, wherein it prevents the progressiveness which I personally prefer.. Maybe a little getting used to once the pads wear, but they just work like on and off swtch, great for sliding but not great for controlled fine braking.. just my two cents..
    Just Happy on the 450, happier on the ADV 390.. Continuing from the first part, perfectly penned.. Ditto on the LED fetish, it's turning out to be eyecandy rather actual helping one to see what he actually wants to see. 😅

      Spokes are better at handling bad roads and ruts and bumps. They are far lighter and far stronger pound-for-pound. They flex a bit and absorb shocks hence are more durable on off-road terrain.
