- Deciding which motorcycle to buy can be a tricky task as there are so many different types of motorcycles available in the market. In this video, I have shared my experience of how I ended up with the KTM 390 Adventure-X. However, if you are looking to purchase a motorcycle, this video will give you insight on how to choose the right motorcycle for yourself, irrespective of the type of motorcycle.

@@chetankumar-pw8bf Yes. Won’t be the best choice for city usage though as you need to work the gearbox a lot. If your primary usage is going to be city riding, look for something with better low end torque.

It’s like I was looking for this story scrolling through RUclips for days after riding 390adv x from a rental, and there it is the most convincing story to stick to

The way you narrated the story is just awesome. I saw the whole video just to listen to your story.

This will change my views on what I need and what I want. Really loved the way you put forward all of this through a beautiful story. Happy riding!!
Thank you
I got back on the saddle a couple of years ago after a liver transplant, I chose a Mojo because I always had a soft corner for the bike and got a wonderful deal on the exact model and colour that I wanted. I attended BOBMC Ridermania last month at Kanyakumari and took a ride through Vagamon before heading home to Bangalore. On this ride, a friend who was with me riding a 390 Adv, asked me to park his bike once. I had to take it out for a small 100 meter ride to park it, this was the first time that I rode the Adv and was impressed on how light it was (when comparer to the Mojo) and the power it had ( I realized this within 100 meters). Now the question is, should i wait for the new version which is already being spied all over the place. Loved the explanation and the thought process, was on the same lines that I think. Subscribed and watching all your videos now. 😊
Thanks so much 🙏🙏
If you liked the Adv-X, just pick it up. Life is not about waiting; its about living. The new model will surely come. When is a big question mark. I too had similar thoughts when buying my Adv-X coz the Himalayan 450 was around the corner. But i felt Adv-x fit the bill and there was no point waiting. Coz something better will always come along. We should make the best of what we have NOW. Good luck
This by far is the best video for those who are confused about choosing between Xpulse, 390 Adv SW, CB500X and 390 Adv X. It becomes heavily confusing to decide between the Adv variants alone. You walked the path for many of us and the way you narrated this experience is just awesome. It was quite a good feeling to listen to the audio and see the video of your ride. All the best and hopefully, I'll end up being in KTM family. Hope to see more interesting topics and videos from you. Thank a lot for such honest, nice to watch content.

Very commendable narration of your journey. Glad i came across it. In today’s world where everything is available in so much abundance, hardly do we sit and think what we really want and need from the bikes. We usually end up buying things that make us look cool only to realise in hindsight that we don’t actually need that much power, features and other gimmicks.
Having used multiple superbikes in last 15 years, i could relate to your story and it has somehow helped satiate my never ending thirst for something new to buy. The adventure 390 X is a tool that can double up as a sunday morning bike in addition to being a daily workhorse. To me, other than abs, the lesser intrusive the electronics, the better and sharper are my instincts and skills. Keep it up.
Thank you.
Amazing narrative. Very close to what I've experienced in the process of maturing as a motorcycle enthusiast over the past 25 yrs. Kudos.

You have a great talent for Moto Vlogging- you can spin a narrative around riding so much better than many I have come across. Please keep at it. I enjoyed watching at 1.25 speed though. It sounds just right I think. Btw I booked an ADV X too.
Congrats 🎉 I’m sure you will enjoy the X. As I’m still new to Moto Vlogging, I’m sure there a lot of scope for improvement and I’ll strive for it. Thanks for the word of encouragement
About to buy ad.v 390x. I love how well you narrated it. I agree with you on all levels. However, I have an RC390 and six years later this bike still puts a smile on my face. Inspite of everyone telling me not buy it. So I lean towards learning by mistake. It's a beautiful process.
Also I have been riding Karizma over a decade now & I don't think any bike can replace it for me.
Go for it!! After 6 months and 10k km, I’m happy I made the right choice.
as a college student i am vermy much facinated about these big (cc's) but you gave me a very clear picture about owning these fancy bikes where everyone is following the trend and it's very very important to understand the need, purpose and how the bike will go along with you in future.
I own an interceptor but ride along with a group where everyone (except me) owns a Superbike. HD, Ducati, Kawasaki etc.. Once in Chennai- Bengaluru highway, I rode the Hayabusa. It's bloody exciting but it was too much power for Indian roads. It's like a death wish on wheels. I decided against the 200 bhp class 😅
I was also confused with the same stuff. Now I’ll go and purchase adv x. Thanks to u.
Very nicely put. Also loved the editing, enjoyed the video and the voce over narrative.
i thought i should go for the adv x but when i started the research, most of reviwers are saying its hard to recommend to anyone, the thing is wrong with those reviwers is (ps : im not against them), the most of the paid reviewers or celebrity reviewers are already riding a premium adv like bmw ducati & others brands, they are not thinking from the point of view of a person who came from 125/150 commuter bike or may be as simple as splendor passion or in my case yamaha fz150 ...people like us don't care about electronic gimiks, we don't get dependend on electronics, yes they are good in a tricky situation, it help us like a "friend in need friend indeed"..... people like you & your piont of view is the much needed these days...beacause one cannot review properly if they are owning premium advs, yes they are expert no doubt & there expertice some times go against them while reviewing budget avds..it also applicable for the cars as well, in the end its all about mindset & skills, adventure is a mindset, one can take as simple as a bicycle to leh ladhak & come back...keep it up bro you cleared a big burden from my heart ❤.
In the real world, the Adv-X just works. Watch Varun’s review (Powerdift) of the Adv-X on his Zanskar ride. He makes a good point about the Adv-X
You've answered the questions which do and don't echo within the mind. I'm glad I came across your video. I'm yet to buy my first bike, I believe what you've narrated does match a lot with my likings too. Let's see how soon I'm going to get m hands on it!
Good luck 🤞🏻
I loved the way how you narrowed down the list from the most expensive & high performer motorcycles to practicality which was ofcourse the KTM ADV 390 X. Almost the same happened to me, the Aprilia RS 457 was like a love at first sight for me & well within my budget too. My love for sport/super bikes. However, after taking a lot of trials of many under 450 cc motorcycles, I found 'the one' motorcycle for myself & that is the Triumph Scrambler 400x.
Thank you. The Scram is definitely going to prove to be an amazing motorcycle.

I bought my first bike back in May 2016 , The BS3 Duke200 , over the years the spirit of biking has dwindled and I really didnt care much for bikes, However on 28th Oct , a friend of mine who was contemplating on getting an Adventure 250 asked me to accompany him to KTM showroom i cldnt resist testing the ADV 390 and boy was I blown away , the comfort , the refinement and the fun aspect with its lightness has me swayed away enough to be on RUclips at 1:41 am , and thats when I discovered this video of yours brilliant narration , You earned yourself a subscriber . Will I be getting a KTM ADV 390? Only time will tell! Time to contemplate and make a decision wise enough 😁
Thank you. One of things I didn’t mention in the video is people getting carried away and buying a motorcycle without really having the passion to ride or travel on two wheels. So, evaluate your situation well and only then decide whether you want a motorcycle or not and if yes, which one. Good luck. I sure hope to see one more biker in the world.
Appreciate your all efforts and the narration along with what exactly we need as a biker.

Hats off. Another adv X'er here. Similarly went through a process, but somehow my heart was seized by the pure performance to cost to weight ratio of the KTM. With the X version, it got even better and it was a done deal from day 1.
I Booked on 31st July, Paid the full amount on 8th Aug & got delivery with number plate at 6pm on the 10th. Took it straight to kodaikanal from the showroom post puja and it was a love at first ride. Unbelievably sound handling , braking, acceleration, cruising, maneuverability, and solid power to pull one out of any situation. Munching miles through the highways to save daylight time at the destination, has to be the best cost (time) saving one can have, given our busy schedules. 😅
I went up the ghats fully saddling and discovered the joys of an adv. the offroads to reach our destinations immediately allowed my X to show off her controlled aggression. I expected city commuting to be painful, but her lightness & handling just changes the game. I've made my peace with her taking up 3.8 bucks per km as fuel cost, apart from that this is a machine for anyone looking for a pure biking experience in the indian context. 😍
You should start vlogging man🙂
By the way congratulations on getting the X home. Happy miles

One question, how is the pillion comfort on this one?
How comfortable will it be for pillions for long road trips?
Thank you 🙏
That’s one question I won’t be able to answer. Reason being I never took a pillion on the motorcycle for more than 2 KM and neither did I sit as a pillion for more than 1 KM. If you are considering taking a pillion along, I would recommend that you take a really long test ride of the 390 Adv (at least 50-100km) along with the pillion and then decide on the pillion comfort.

Very commendable narration.. How much on road at Bangalore?

Great review,
I just wanted to know, I bought the bike a week ago and I'm facing lot of vibrations mostly on handle bars and visor + meter when RPM below 4k-4.5k.
And the vibrations are actually too much for a city ride.
Did you also faces the same experience let me know, whether the issue is with my bike only or its a general KTM 390 behaviour
It’s typical for KTM 390 engines. These engines need to be revved to keep them smooth. Regarding the vibes on the instrument cluster, it can be reduced. I’ll be sharing this in my next video

Very well articulated 👏 . One doubt ? Can we use this for daily commute as well. Thanks in advance .
Thank you. Yes it can be a daily use motorcycle too once you get used to it. You will have to change gears more often on the 390 Adv as compared to other motorcycles with better lower end torque. But as I mentioned, it’s a matter of getting used to it. Some people find difficulty with the heat management in city traffic. Personally, I never felt it to be too bad.
Awesome explanation.. I am 5 8’ and would be a single bike garage, upgrading from a unicorn. Would you suggest a adventure or duke 390? City 70pc 20pc highways and 10pc off tossing during trips
Duke would make more sense as city usage is higher. Also, check out the Triumph speed 400.

This video solved my entire confusion about which variant to buy in the 390 adv series
Nice explanation. But did you deliberately exclude the exhaust sound from the video? Because that is a big negative for the KTM Adventure as it sounds like an autorickshaw. Other than that everything else in your video is correct. If they can fix that exhaust sound they could double their sales imo
When you ride a KTM, you will mostly hear wind noise. It’s only the passer-by’s who will listen to your exhaust/engine sound. So, rest assured, if u don’t like the exhaust, you will only have to bear it for a minute or two during the warm up.
Ktm sounds like a autorickshaw not now from the day it's launched back in India, heating issues ,vibration issues , so I never wanted to buy let's see how new sw version once
Great video. Great story telling. 👍 Each and every word in this video is true. Great job 👍.
Thank you
Hey , after so many months of thought process I too have narrowed it down to adv 390x and the only thing that I miss is the adjustable suspension setup which Im also thinking for getting it fitted by the ktm guys from the sw model. The only concern is that will it void the vehicle insurance and can i claim if any accident occurs ?
After almost 9k km on the Adv-X, I still don’t see the necessity of adjustable suspension. The rear one can be easily retro fitted from KTM without warranty issues. Not sure about insurance or front suspension upgrade to the adjustable ones.
You narrated beautifully. I need some advice from you… I want a bike for daily commuting and weekend trip to hills . Shall i consider 250 or 390x ?
It depends on more factors
1. Average daily distance in city
2. Is it bumper to bumper traffic or smooth flowing traffic or fast Ring roads
3. Single or with pillion
4. What is the city mileage expectation?
5. Highway touring distance
6. What kind of highway speeds you want to keep up?
7. Are you fixated on KTM or looking at other brands as well?
@@prameethprabhu 40kms approx city ride, 15 kms bumper to bumper , city ride solo … weekend trips pillion
@@prameethprabhu as of now looking at ktm & triumph scrambler
@@joyride__ As I can see that you primary usage will be in city, you are better off considering something that works very well in city traffic and does highway job too. Maybe something like H’Ness. Just a suggestion. Scrambler is also not a bad option. You got to wait till October for it though. With KTM, your bumper to bumper traffic ride may not be most comfortable. Everywhere else, you should be fine.
Fantastic video....very good presentation. Even the background music was perfect....not too loud and not too soft.

Amazing learning, brother.. i also looking to buy ADV X, Can you tell me what is the Mileage you got on city rides as well as highway rides..
I rarely ride in city. So, not sure of the mileage in city.
Highway 32kmpl at speeds of around 100kmph and 28kmpl at speeds of around 120kmph
Even I bought Adventure X for this sole purpose. It just gets the job done, packed with a powerful engine and offers what is just necessary, cheaper than duke 390.
The more I think of SW version, the more I feel it is unnecessary. With the low suspension travel you would hardly being doing such jumps which could impart huge impacts on the wheels. Plus Adv390 is not that heavy either that the wheels would take such a beating.
what a crazy analysis bro, I owned the first gen himalayan and had to sell it cus of MBA. On the lookout for a new adv since ages, test rode ninja, versys, trk etc and then finally rode the adv 390, felt 4.44 lacs on road in blore was too much and later felt triumph speed 400 was the answer to my prayers, went to keerthi triumph and was disappointed looking at the size of the bike, looked like a toy on me. Related so much with your video brother, ADV X is the way to go !!!! Buying 1 this week !!
Thank you. Yes. Even I felt that the Speed400 is very small in size for a 400cc motorcycle. In a way it’s good coz it’s gonna be nimble and easy to handle. Coming to the Adv-X - this is gonna keep you happy for a long time. Congrats on ur new motorcycle. Do connect on Instagram and keep me posted on your experience with the Adv-X
one hell of a narration... too good man..!! 👍
What will you choose today KTM adv 390X or Triumph Scrambler 400X?
@@dipyamankhamaru4748 Even today I would have chosen the Adv-X over the Scrambler 400X or the Himalayan 450.
As compared to the 400X, The Adv-X is more suited for long highway runs due to better wind protection, more luggage carrying capacity, more choices of accessories availablity and better service network. Plus not to mention, Adv-X is a time tested product which is still an unknown for the 400X. For example - the alloys of the Adv were further strengthened from 2023 onwards which means it can take a beating off road. That is still an unknown territory for 400X.
As compared to the Himalayan 450, Adv-X is more mad, lighter and just more fun. Plus. I dont wanna deal with the reliability or the tube tyres of the himalayan.
It doesn’t mean they are bad bikes. These are my reasons for still choosing the Adv-X.
@@prameethprabhu Thanks a lot for sharing your viewpoint.
At the same situation, very much clear. What are your thoughts on new RE himalayan ?
It’s good. Looks solid. RE has put a lot of thought into it. But RE being RE, it’s better we wait for one year before all the issues are fixed. And I hope you are ok with tube type tyres
Your practical take on the variants is spot on.
Bro am planning to aquire Adv 390X but change its suspension to fully adjustable one as in Adv 390SW variant.
What do you suggest.

Hey brother, your vlogs are very informative. I have question, currently I am riding duke 390 gen 2 and I am planning to buy Ktm 390 adv x. Is it worth upgrading?
That depends on your usage of the motorcycle. As I mentioned in the video, what you need your motorcycle for is very important. Both the Duke 390 and Adv 390 are similar in many ways yet are so different. The Duke can do somethings really well and the Adv can do many things really well. Neither of them are perfect but they both work in their own environments.

Good rationale , I agree.
I currently own a Interceptor 650 Since 2019(upgraded from duke 200), covered long distances, what i miss if off-roading .
2-3 years from now i would do one of these 2 things ,
1) Upgrade to new KTM Adv, they are currently working 650cc parallel twin(co-dev by Bajaj/Indian made): this would means id have to sell by interceptor , as i don't think this will be anything less that 7.5lacs
2) or keep my interceptor for the roads and buy a secondary off-roader , like the currently in development 420cc DOHC Liquid cool rally spec hero dual sport
Bro loved your journey of how u decided which bike to own
I am thinking to buy the triumph scrambler 400x is this a good decision pls advice me
If it meets your needs, then it will be good bike. The whole idea is to figure out what we want from the motorcycle and then decide the right motorcycle. As far as Scrambler is concerned, it looks promising. It will be a good machine but ensure it meets your requirement.
@@prameethprabhu yes sir I have realised the same as u that how often am I going to do cornering on highways n all so that’s why I am thinking to buy the scrambler over the speed 400 as scrambler will be able to do both highway and off roading
