  • In this video i try to show the complete tear down of an electric foldable wing mirror. All of sudden the mechanism was not working properly, instead of replacing the whole mirror for 250 euro i tried to replace the motor inside.
    The gears look very robust, if the wing mirror stops working, likely will be due to the electric motor.

    Thanks a lot for this video. You don't even know how much time I spent on the Internet looking for information on how to disassemble the mirror in my C Max to fix the electric motor.

    Thank you for the video, my mirror motor goes too far back towards the front fender, so in looking at your video, I'm assuming that the block must have disintegrated, which is why it doesn't stop at the proper position.

    Great video, but happy to spend a £100 on a replacement mirror assy. Much easier.

    Thank you so much for this video. It helped me change the electric motor. Anyway I'm experiencing a problem. When I unlock the car and the side mirror opens, the electric motor continues rotating for as long as 20 seconds and the passanger door (the same side) does not unlock. Do you have any idea why this is happening?

    I understand that the mecanism is a worm drive one?

    How did you compress the spring in the end? It's the most difficult part.

    • @31_Ash

      Looks like he used an angle grinder spanner at the start - I’m in the middle of the same job now and honestly thing this guy has super human strength!

      @31_Ash I did it with an angle grinder spanner indeed. The thing kept opening so I has to glue it to the position I needed it to stay in. It took some force but most to push rather than turn. You need to put it in a large vice to make it easy. I used a piece of timber 2x4 to push on the spanner. Once I did it, I fitted and realised the motor was going the opposite way so I dismantled it again and the 2nd time round it took me under a minute to set the spring

    I'm still just not sure how to press and turn this spring. You went to the garage and on top of that you have a dedicated tool.

      Hello, i am glad to help, i also could not find any help with it. For the spring there is no dedicated tool, you could try to use something like this: m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51-eYkrwZZS._AC_SX355_.jpg. I actually bought it and tried to use it without success. The main force you need is on the compression, you need just a bit of torque to twist it (after compression ofc), at the end you can also try by pushing with the palm of your hand and then twist it. As soon you see the spring compressing 1-2 cm try to give a twist of about 90 degrees

    I’ve 15 Fusion SE and both the passenger side mirror turn signal doesn’t work and no movement. What could cause both functions not to work? It doesn’t seem the control switch would be responsible since it’s working on the driver side. The fuse ? It seems one fuse for both sides right ? I’ve yet to get door panel off and look for obvious damage. It seems like just no power is going to the mirror? Bad motor on mirror wouldn’t affect the turn signal would it ? Any advice would be appreciated thanks .

      Hello, sounds to me a fuse issue. Check the passenger compartment, fuse n.26. Link here: www.startmycar.com/ford/fusion/info/fusebox/2015

      Open the link, fuse 25 is for Driver door (window, mirror) and 26 is for Front passenger door (window, mirror)

      @@luigiaiello9607frost I want to thank you for this very helpful video. Funny, today I went to official Ford service for regular maintenance an i told them about driver side mirror that won't fold (folds for a centimeter or two), and it "rattles", it is not fixed at one point. Oddly, after some time it get fixed by itself and works normally for some period of time. Guy from the service told me it can not be fixed but only replaced with a new mirror for more than 200€ because everything inside is molded in plastic cover?! And now I see you dissasembling it to the smolest part. I own Ford Focus mark 3, bought in 2016. I hope the new motor will fix the present issue with a side mirror. Did you have the same problem I do with a mirror?

    • @luigiaiello9607
      @luigiaiello9607  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@igorloncar8154 hello, yes i had the very same issue. The side mirror was just partially folding or sometime did not move at all. It is the electric motor for sure. I had Ford Focus 2018, i guess it is the same type of side mirror. I had the same discussion with Ford, they told me that it had to be replaced, they asked me for 350 euro here in Austria!

      @@luigiaiello9607 I wrote a wrong price for a new mirror, it is over 300 euros, just like in your case. My bigest vory is that a mirror is moving few milimeters, not much, but it is noticible, like it is shaking in horizontal axis. My concerne is if something else than just a motor gone wrong and by that I mean of the part you have mentioned that has some kind of limiter that limits how much the mirror will fold.

    • @luigiaiello9607
      @luigiaiello9607  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@igorloncar8154 there is a limiter but is not something that needs to be setup or changed. Simply your motor has internally weared brushes, sometime it works and sometime not.

      Hello, i see two possibilities:
      1. You mounted somehow the motor gears in opposite direction (or the motor you bougth has opposite wormgear direction), try to compare it with the old one
      2. When you mounted it back, somehow the plastic stoppers got shifted (but i see this as a remote possibility)
