Originally written in E minor for viola da gamba
This arrangement is performed here on clarinet d'amore in G, played in D minor, however it can be played on any clarinet. The arrangement appears in three versions: 1) for clarinet to low E, 2) for clarinet to low E-flat and 3) for clarinet to low C. They're available as one self-contained PDF incl. an introduction, overview of movements and keys, and the scan of Telemann’s original copper press score. As the original work was written for a polyphonic instrument, some adjustments have been made for the clarinet, essentially a monophonic instrument. However, the viola da gamba and the clarinet both have a large range of over three octaves, which is fully utilised in this music.

What is the wood used? I'm not sure what clarinets are made from nowadays.

Thank you! It’s made of mopani. Clarinets are made these days from a variety of woods such as grenadilla, cocobolo, mopani and boxwood.
