@Bach, would you consider adding Frankenberg to the name of the video? What's so wonderful in Bach's chamber music is that all performers are equal in importance.
Obviously the guy who wrote this is a genius: Imagine you knew nothing about Bach, his life, his music or the history of musical appreciation: it would be immediately intuitively clear that the author of this sonata was a genius. Such are the works of Bach: Genius hearing it the first time around, and genius after uncountable hearings and intellectual knowing quite a lot about his oeuvre and life. You cannot kill a Bach piece!
Wonderful description of JS Bach, but you can definitely kill hid music. Listen to Karl Richter or Glenn Gould, and you will understand how they killed his music.
There is nothing to fault here; musically the sonata is beautifully conveyed by the cembalo and gamba musicians. Strangely I never knew what I was missing from these works although this is another perfect composition. It may be entirely a case of sound: that the cembalo isn’t tenuous enough to satisfy the want of a higher register in the music.
Thank for Netherland Bach Society to share excellent musical concents. It is marvelous and incredible sound. It will be my best favorite concent. Really Bach is brilliant genius itself.
Gracias. ♥♥♥💯
Lovely! I have her Dialogues CD (Marin Marais book 1) it's just incredible! This performance and Jean Rondeau Goldberg Variations....I clicked on them immediately - my 2 favourites so far! Thank you NBS and the musicians.
As soon as I saw the bell tower in the opening shot, I thought “this looks just like my hometown!” I am originally from Herrnhut/Germany, the origin of the Moravian Church (Broedergemeente in Dutch). The plain white interior is also very typical. What a nice surprise!

Incredible what a harmony! You can hear a Baroque recorder or traverso mixing with the other 2 instruments in the first part. That is only possible with these beautiful , characteristic instruments.
You are right. We chose for the shorter title to make it easier to find. This does not quite right to the way Bach structured the music and the role of the harpsichord.
Very marvelous. Sincerly contragutalations in all the points. Very dynamique. I’m an ancien strudent of J. Hantaï, i see the challenge. Probable on of the Very best interprétation…
An inspirational performance! There are two sections of the Allegro moderato that are relentless for the left hand. A Hanon warmup helps. It's even more challenging for the gamba! I also enjoy playing this on the piano because of the dynamics which allows me to dialogue with the gamba. Bob van Asperen recorded this in 1990 on chamber organ with the great Anner Bylsma on violoncello piccolo.
Harpsichord > organ > piano is my preference when doing keyboard on this sonata. Dynamics is nice with piano, but I love the crispness and clean embelishments with organ/harpsichord.
Interestingly, I always found this sonata boring, but listening to you both for the first time I found it really interesting. you have done a very cool job! Thank you!

This Sonata also exists in a version for two flutes and continuo (BWV 1039). Researchers suspect that neither version is the original, but that they are rather arrangements of an earlier trio sonata by Bach himself, which has not survived. So yes, three part certainly

Amazing music and musicians! However. I completely didn't understand the approach to recording. The balance (micing? room?) between instruments end up fighting instead of "conversation". Sonata written by Bach is for Viola? It was hard for me to understand what Viola is 'trying say''. And It's not because of performance of course We can also notice that dynamic got lost somewhere- it' all came out forte from the 1st to the last note. Yes, harpsichord dynamic is limited, but levels I think ruined the performance. Sorry for being bad guy here..
This one of six sonatas written for the Viola da Gamba (Viola of the Leg) a member of the fretted Viol family and forerunner of the Violoncello. Do not confuse this instrument with the much smaller Viola da Brachia (of the arm). The keyboard part is fully written out.

Very nice. And she's playing her gamba with the special tail piece.
Why is it special? You mean just for how it looks or does it give a particular sound to the instrument?
