I REALLY can't believe I need to clarify this, but I am saying the word 'knickers.' It's what we call ladies underwear in the UK. Definition: knickers - noun plural noun: knickers; modifier noun: knicker 1. British: a woman's or girl's undergarment covering the lower part of the torso to the top of the thighs and having two holes for the legs.

Thanks for having me on! There were quite a few of these controversies I hadn't heard about before, but I'm glad you also included the classics. I'm convinced the debate about the Teenage Gary scene will live on forever despite how many times it was proven to be fake haha
Personally one controversy that never gets brought up is how Sandy, despite being one of the main characters, is barely in the show anymore (only now getting a prominent role in the next movie). Nearly a quarter of a century and we know very little about her other than she's a proud Texan squriell who possibly ran away from Texas because she didn't fit in with the other squirrels. There's so many stories we can explore such as where her love of the ocean, bathing suits, Karate, and science come from? Recreating the video game level from the Plug-N-Play where Plankton kidnaps her and uses her to ransom the Krabby Patty Formula. Giving her a Science Rival. Animating the Spongebob Musical. Her relationship with Spongebob? ETC.
Regarding "Behind Closed Doors," the animators drawing their characters in lewd/NSFW situations is actually pretty common across many different studios (you should see some of what the Rescue Rangers crew have done, for instance). It's especially weird/interesting as all the art is in the actual style of the shows.
Pretty much every Disney character [especially the Princesses] as hardcore porngraphic material drawn by the animators. And Disney apparently keeps all of it. That's pretty much all that's needed to be known about everyone else lol

Whilst I agree that subliminal girl probably would be kids' first jumpscare, the fact that "Don't drop them" wasn't allowed yet Fairly Oddparents got away with a reference to "The Aristocrats" joke blows my mind.
I still remember the time Nickelodeon censored “Just One Bite” and the scene of Squiddy sneaking into the Krusty Krab and getting lit on fire with gasoline. Even the season 3 boxset I had back in 2005 had the scene re-edited to cut straight to the patty vault. I get it was post 9/11 and all but the stuff he went through was so over the top and exaggerated I don’t think it’s any crazier than Daffy Duck swallowing nitroglycerin like in “Show Biz Bugs” and telling the audience he could only do it once while implying he died and was going to hell. Also, I hear that scene with Patrick rubbing sunscreen on Sandy’s shoulders in “Procrastination” was cut for many years and brought back apparently.
The Show Biz Bugs thing is weird, because back in like 2010 when it aired at like 6AM it was uncut but when it aired later in the day it was censored. I know because when I woke up for school one day in highschool around 6:25 AM I saw the scene right before the next cartoon at 6:30, and then when I saw the encore airing at like 4 PM it wasn't there
@@WyattD03 it's weird no matter who you are. The censored clips all come from early spongebob and the directing was so tight that anything missing is rather obvious. "Bad words"? What? I guess she never saw the episode: "Sailor Mouth" which is the only Spongebob episode every with bad words that they use hilarious sounds to censore like a Dolphin and Ship horns.
The SpongeBob Musical was also controversial in the beginning, I remember people calling it a “cash grab” and that Stephen wouldn’t have approved of it (even though he knew about it before he passed away)
I personally like to believe that Red Mist was actually the lost episode found under the desk, and when they found out that it shouldn't be shown to kids, they made The Sponge Who Could Fly as a coverup

First, thank you for acknowledging that asexuality is part of the LGBT+ community! A lot of people tend to forget that and so the [annoying] debates about SpongeBob's sexuality present his two options as either being gay or being straight. Hillenburg's statement about SpongeBob being asexual is almost always ignored. (I know that this doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things but it would still be nice for one of the most popular characters in history to be asexual.) Second, although the NFL fumbled hard with the performance of "Sweet Victory," the NHL did play the clip before one of their games, although the characters' costume colors were tweaked to be green. Just thought this was a neat bit of trivia to share!
"Conservatives really get their panties in a bunch over Spongebob" It's honestly everything nowadays, not just Spongebob, but funny to see how many "controversies" of the show are just from that group of people

The first one - honestly I've heard this is true for EVERY studio and most of the people working on the movies/shows from Disney to Dreamworks to Nick and beyond have some kind of work like that of the characters. So much so, people who pitch shows are given the "there WILL be Rule 34 art of your characters, no matter their age, be prepared for that because it'll happen" and one even said "I just didn't expect it to be from the animators/character designers themselves."
The NSFW book controversy is insane- it was a bunch of artists making a stupid collection of drawings for fun, sharing it with each other FOR FUN, and then when it leaked everyone got all up in arms about it being inappropriate The first page literally opens up with “this is full of inappropriate images” It IS very common in the animation industry to just fuck around with your characters- the Adventure Time creators had loads of drawings of the characters using actual swears, because it was fun to make.

Aw thanks so much Chad :) This drawing was done by an artist named Matt Thornton. Love working with him. He's currently doing doing a Futurama avatar of me :)
It's amazing how much this show could get away with in the 2000s and even in the early 2010's. One Coarse Meal is one of the darkest episodes I can think of period because of the psychological torture. Are you Happy Now? is also quite upsetting. House Fancy is infamous for its toenail scene, Gary takes a Bath is also pretty dark, but it's not unheard of as the Looney Tunes have made similar jokes I'm pretty sure.
being Canadian when ever me and my brothers watch just one bite...it always had that fire scene. it was years later watching it on a a site I saw the censored version and went...."huh"
I agree with you, Lydia, on the questionable sensitivity from the UK Censor Classification team with some early Spongebob episodes. And I'm from the UK myself. Seriously, have they seen some example from the 17th century parody and satire comic strips in newpaper from libraries and museums, including independent ones from the UK. Plus, my university leature have talked to us, illustrators about some animation and artists who done some risqué, violence and adult oriented with slice of life contents in their work around the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s to me in the mid 2010s that give those early Spongebob epsoides run for their money. Also, I would be 100% support with the banner in them with reasonable explanation and age range labels only if the viewers wanted to look at them in his or her risk. Some early Spongebob episodes, I wasn't upset but curiosity when I saw a few of them in the 2000s when I was a young child in the UK.
Thanks so much! :D My favourite part about talking about a new show is getting a new avatar commissioned haha! I will be showing off my Futurama one on Monday on my Simpsons Theory channel :)
Oh yeah, Once Upon A Forest! I remember that movie! That was the first time l saw a dead character in a cartoon. Really prepared me well for the adult parts of Animals of Farthing Woods and Chronicles of Redwall. I'm still not fully over Lug-a-Lug the Ferryman's death. That was a particularly cruel one. I'm glad I only started reading the books as an adult. So much violence and death, it would have been quite the mixed bag for me as a child.
Great video. Although the 17:44 section felt like it was missing crucial details and painted a mostly negative view. You left out that Steven said in the interview that wasn’t against spin-offs, he just didn’t see them happening. And not to mention that he worked on both the the sponge on the run movie, and early on in camp coral before his passing. And according to staff he was well aware of the spin-offs being made. Also Paul Tibbitt hasn’t worked on the show since season 9 and left production on sponge on the run. Other staff members statements contradicts what Paul says in interviews
A more minor controversy worth adding was one from 2019 where artist Lolwutburger accused Nickelodeon of stealing some fan art he made and used it in an advertisement.
If you ever feel pathetic or useless, just remember there are people who spend their time getting worked up over spongebob being gay, when he's not gay anyway.
Kwarantined Krab is on paramount plus! Also, Stephen actually worked on Kamp Koral's idea creation / beginning development before his passing, so it seems to me that even though he originally was against a SB spin off, it appears that he changed his mind. Personally, I love SB, Kamp Koral and the patrick star show and I can't wait for what's to come!
Here in 2024, and probably 2025 other fans still believe this in a way I can see they're still living in the same irrational past from 2019 treating this as all true and refuse to accept the realities about what actually went down before either spin-off (mostly Kamp Koral) was even greenlit. I swear, the SpongeBob fanbase just does not care.
Technically Spongebob being asexual will still make him a part of the LGBTQ+ community. So him being a symbol for pride doesn't necessarily make him gay it's just a representation for the whole community.
Jesus Christ it’s sad how insecure the LGBT community is that y’all have to constantly get affirmation from everyone else to feel accepted. SpongeBob is not a LGBT icon or a “symbol of pride” If y’all like him for those aspects of his personality that’s all well and good, but stop trying to make absolutely everything about your minority. Just live your life and do what you want with whoever you want. Nobody cares other than you and the ego centric community you’re apart of.
One Coarse Meal is one of the MOST infamous episodes in SpongeBob history. Plankton deserves better and he deserves a chance to get revenge on Mr. Krabs.
I never knew that thing about square butts lmao! I actually think you missed some tho, like how hilenberg said he never wanted sponge bob to promote any fast food, and there was something about the nick state of play I can’t really remember
I don’t mind Sweet Victory not playing. The problem with what happened was they pretended they would. There would be little to no controversy if they just didn’t do it.
i find it absurd that anyone thought they would play it in the first place: despite what the internet may think,no one actually cares about spongebob aside from fans of the show and that sure as hell ain't a bunch of football people. no one cares about spongebob or it's creator so there is absolutely no reason to expect that they will care enough to make ot the half-time show at the SUPER BOWL.
@@JT5555 What planet are you living on? Every person I’ve ever met has an opinion on SpongeBob while I’ve met 3 people period in real life who give a single shit about Football. All of Football’s fandom is is people making fun of things that don’t make sense, complaining about rules, and being dragged to it as a social activity so they have an excuse to hang out with friends.
I remember watching the Super Bowl in 2018. The only time I ever payed attention to the halftime show. I was so disappointed. So I just pulled up the scene on my phone and played it.
" Let me show you why they call me Mr.Krabbs!"😂 All serious know this was a pretty awesome little video! Great job Lydia! A lot of animators had fun in the office including Warner Brothers, MGM, and especially Disney who infamously made a video of Mickey and Minnie that sadly got them fired by Walt himself! Every animator loves to have fun and make their own little spin to be enjoyed by others! Especially at the office❤🎉
This was great! The episode when SpongeBob was supposed to write his essay, they took out the scene with Patrick rubbing suntan lotion on Sandy’s back for awhile.
Besides the fire, there's nothing connected to 9/11 in the just one bite deleted scene compared to the ones from movies. Monsters, Inc removed the restuarant explosion for a plasma containment force while Lilo and Stitch changed its third act including Stitch and Jumba deliberately destroying the house and hijacking a plane.
With the spin-off part. Hillenburg DID NOT outright say he didn't want any SpongeBob spin-offs at all. He said in an interview from 2009 that he didn't see the potential at the time, not that he was against that idea. But of course, we all got outraged over the idea of a SpongeBob spin-off series because of that false claim, and I have two more things to say. 1. Hillenburg knew about Kamp Koral before he passed on and gave it the approval. 2. All of these claims about Hillenburg being against a SpongeBob spin-off series were all a hoax back in 2003, and nobody realized that was not true once. Seriously, Lydia. All of what I'm correcting is everyone putting in words on a dead man's body the whole time. How hypocritical is this controversy?
Pretty sure Behind Closed Doors is just the artists having fun and blowing off steam. I 100% positive this happens more often then not Heck I’m positive there is recordings of the actors saying lewd and messed up things
The whole spongebob sexuality thing honeslty never crossed my mind once till people started talking about it Its always just been a funny cartoon too me 😅
@soriellover1728 My guess for why Nick posted a picture of Spongebob when celebrating pride month is exactly because he's asexual. I guess that would make him a part of the LGBTQ(IA+) community. He's the A in it.
8:13 OH YEAH! A bucket of gas fell in front of Squidward and then a random robot arm drops a match in the gas and then Squidward is on fire and the reason it's deleted is because it was only a month after 9/11 happened.

I mean that kind of just describes most of Spongebob post-Season 3 so I don't see how this one got any extra attention.
I've never got into SpongeBob but I really enjoy hearing people talking about the show, including Lydia and Phantomstrider.
I remember a lot of these things going on in the early 2000s as well to the mid-2000s to 2010
On the subject if "Sweet Victory" An NHL game between Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild played the song and the intro during their halftime.
Technically Spongebob being asexual will still make him a part of the LGBTQ+ community. So him being a symbol for pride doesn't necessarily make him gay it's just a representation for the whole community.
Oh yeah it’s true
Jesus Christ it’s sad how insecure the LGBT community is that y’all have to constantly get affirmation from everyone else to feel accepted. SpongeBob is not a LGBT icon or a “symbol of pride” If y’all like him for those aspects of his personality that’s all well and good, but stop trying to make absolutely everything about your minority. Just live your life and do what you want with whoever you want. Nobody cares other than you and the ego centric community you’re apart of.
@@huskycruxes7232 Cope lmao
@@PryzmMusic I don’t got nothing to cope with. They’re the ones that need constant affirmation so their feelings don’t get hurt.
@@huskycruxes7232 Cope lmao
I used to work summer camp in undergrad. We couldn’t watch any SpongeBob one year because a mom thoroughly believed the show would make her son gay.
Love your channel
the sketch of big bulbous Squidward gave me flashbacks to Paul Stewart's the Blobheads
The Biggest controversy here is that news channel thinking "SpongeBob Gone Pants" was clever enough to be a headline.
One Coarse Meal is one of the MOST infamous episodes in SpongeBob history. Plankton deserves better and he deserves a chance to get revenge on Mr. Krabs.
This is an incredible SpongeBob Controversy Video Ever 😊
Just checked Paramount Plus UK and I couldn’t see Kwarantined Krab.
I own all three first seasons on DVD, including Mid-Life Crustacean, so I can see the panty raid gag again for laughs.
18:14 actually Steven Hillenberg said that he saw spinoffs UNLIKELY
Hee also HELPED WORKED ON KAMP KORAL
Then why would they advertise doing something Spongebob related?
I remember watching the Super Bowl in 2018. The only time I ever payed attention to the halftime show. I was so disappointed. So I just pulled up the scene on my phone and played it.
Kwarantined krabs is indeed on Paramount+ now, watched the other day
" Let me show you why they call me Mr.Krabbs!"😂
All serious know this was a pretty awesome little video!
*"Wow just discovered the porno book here on this month of July 2023,That really is going on now, What was going on in their minds?"*
4:04 Lyds I love you and your accent slaps no matter what but you gottta pronounce those K’s lmao
she literally did are you deaf?
Can you please do more spongebob videos?
I'd love to! I'm thinking of making a video on Fred the fish 🐠
Old Episodes: art
New Episodes: trash and horrific
Yeah !
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Controversy!
Keep up the good work 👍
Pretty sure Behind Closed Doors is just the artists having fun and blowing off steam.
I 100% positive this happens more often then not
Heck I’m positive there is recordings of the actors saying lewd and messed up things
Hell even the DBZ actors had voice recordings of lewd shit lmao. it's just funny .
@@Astoopidmf remember that
And it proves my point
The actors and animators probably do a lot of that stuff
The whole spongebob sexuality thing honeslty never crossed my mind once till people started talking about it
Its always just been a funny cartoon too me 😅
@soriellover1728
My guess for why Nick posted a picture of Spongebob when celebrating pride month is exactly because he's asexual. I guess that would make him a part of the LGBTQ(IA+) community. He's the A in it.
I am surprised that the behind the closed doors is a real thing oh my goodness.
In one scene SpongeBob has 6 hands but in the next scene he only has 5 and squidwards Energy since high school has a suggestive face
I really love your SpongeBob persona, you look cute as a mermaid.
Aw thank you ☺️ the artist is Matt Thornton
I think she`s supposed to be Ariel.
When I was in 5th grade the square butts ad would crack me up
Too bad, the panty raid episode had some the best jokes, “is thou feeling now… mr krabs!”
Great video really doing the lords work by deep diving into SpongeBob controversial lore ….P.s. Fish Lydia got me sweating 😂😂
8:13 OH YEAH! A bucket of gas fell in front of Squidward and then a random robot arm drops a match in the gas and then Squidward is on fire and the reason it's deleted is because it was only a month after 9/11 happened.
Kwarantined Krabs is on Paramount plus
Baby Got Back is a classic.
