No ink lemonade? It has all three of the biggest issues with modern SpongeBob in one episode: Gross-out humor, Patrick being a jerk, and Squidward getting tortured.
I think it's because Ink Lemonade has made an appearance in his worst spongebob videos numerous times, and he wanted to bring variety. But as the video claims, these episodes are rated by other people. So for some reason... Ink Lemonade isn't even in them, not even the Scumbob site.
Josh has undergone one of the most legendary character developments. From shouting and loudly ranting about stuff he doesn’t like to calmly (for the most part) criticizing it.
I do like the twist at the end of "I'm with Stupid". Patrick being stupid enough to forget what his parents look like is believable, but the fake parents forgetting that they don't have a son and they shouldn't know who Patrick is is so absurd it's hilarious.
it's mean spirited, but funny as fuck. i was pissed off too when i first saw it as a kid, but that's the exact point. to show that patrick can be an arrogant dumbass. the "dumb people don't realize how dumb they truly are" from PATRICK was peak comedy.
Yeah I had no problem with it because Patrick had the motive to be a jerk to impress his (fake) parents, not just being a jerk for the hell of it. Same with Dumped, because Patrick enjoyed Gary a bunch (and was the butt of the joke at the end).
@@japansfloridaman2466 I still didn't like how Spongebob got treated by Patrick in I'm With Stupid - understandable but I always felt off by it. Dumped, on the other hand, felt better because Patrick really WAS having fun and playing with Gary while Spongebob tried to get his snail back. He was so into it that he did become a bit of a jerk since he figured Gary liked him more than Spongebob, but hey, the end joke worked well there!
As awful as A Pal For Gary is, One Coarse Meal actually had Plankton try to commit suicide by getting run over. Yes, that is without exaggeration what happens. A kid's show has an episode where, after two weeks of psychological torture, a character legitimately tries to commit suicide as a plot point. And after hearing that Plankton is laying in the road to try and get run over, Krabs just laughs at that. That goes beyond mean-spirited into downright malicious evil, and he doesn't face any real consequences for it
Well he did also get scared when his fear was revealed to be mimes but that's still not a good enough punishment. Dude should be in jail for essentially assisted suicide.
The only part I liked about the doorbell scene in "Pet or Pests" was the line Spongebob saying: *"Good morning, Mrs. Puff"* Mrs Puff: *"It almost was"* 😂
A lot of people have declared SpongeBob season 6 and 7 as the “gross out era” of SpongeBob, so episodes like “SpongeBob’s Bad Habit” are quite disappointing since it shows me that the staff keeps falling back into bad habits themselves. What really gets me about the episode “Pets or Pests?” is that worms are consistently portrayed as dogs throughout the series, and yet Larry the lobster considers eating them anyway, which is mildly disturbing. And in “Face Freeze,” SpongeBob and Patrick willingly go around scaring people with their gross faces, which feels very out of character. When they bother people, even in bad episodes like “Good Neighbors,” it’s usually due to their own ignorance.
and thank God SpongeBob didn't end up like Season 6 to 9A after Stephen Hillenberg passed away. Rest in peace mate. The Paul Tibbit era today is way more different than the show's dark age (also under Tibbit).
I watched 'Stuck in the Wringer' when I was a kid, and there's one line I've never forgotten: Patrick - "You ruined my ice cream!" Spongebob - "YOU RUINED MY LIFE!" Even as a kid, I was annoyed at everyone siding with Patrick afterwards. I mean, how didn't I *hate* that episode?
@PopcornPie maybe. I've heard bits about Pica, but the fact he went out of his way to search for Spongebob's sea monkeys for the sole purpose of devouring them and the only "explanation" we get is him getting sassy when he gets caught is off-putting
I always didn’t like how they made Patrick insufferable after the later seasons. He used to be an amusing and cute character, and he actually did frequently display certain moments of intelligence
I always liked waiting. Beeing pointless is the entire point here and i love it. I can't help but laugh everytime Patrick eats the birthdaycake on accident while searching for the present which is a fork.
One episode I'd deem number 1 most hated is Ink Lemonade, where Patrick scares the living daylights out of Squidward to use his Ink as "Black Lemonade". In one scene, he builds a house of horrors that features Squidward's worst nightmare: working at the Krusty Krab until he's a senior citizen; that alone shows that Patrick is intelligent enough to know what he's doing, and doesn't care that it's wrong. Spongebob ain't no better either, and neither get any comeuppance in the end.
I'm personally more bothered by the fact that he attempted to consume what are, essentially, Bikini Bottom's stand in for puppies. I mean, I know they're not exactly cute, but that idea still rubs me the wrong way.
To be honest, I kinda liked whatever happened to spongebob. The start wasnt very good but the rest of the episode was actually pretty good to me. Like you said, seeing spongebob outside of bikini bottom was really refreshing and i liked the concept of the gang. I think that an episode about spongebob going back to shell city, if done right, could be really good.
Nice to see you talking about cartoons again! This year has been lots of fun for me. I've discovered Owl House, Amphibia, and Bluey this year. All of them are masterpieces in their own right. I also love 101 Dalmatian Street, though I saw that one a couple years ago. If Disney keeps making bad cash grab sequels and remakes, at least they have creative shows. Although Bluey isn't originally theirs. They just distribute it.
I think Smooth Jazz at Bikini Bottom would've been better if it was just Squidward and Spongebob having a good time. Like Squidward realizes he has more in common with Spongebob than he thought. Not every Squidward episode has to be misery.
i 100% agree, and that honestly sounds like a great Spongebob episode. i never understood the constant need to torture Squidward, like, yeah, he's a bit of a grump, but he's a grump for a reason; because he's constantly being treated like some sort of punching bag, for seemingly no reason.
Yeah, or like SpongeBob does something that at first Squidward gets really mad about, thinking that SpongeBob just ruined his night, but then whatever SpongeBob did actually leads to Squidward having a really good time and even getting to meet or play with Kelpie G (or whatever the dude's name was) I think the only time that the "Squidward suffering" trope works is when Squidward himself causes it by being a jerk or having a big head
24:10 In the episode “Boating School”, Patrick help SpongeBob almost pass his driving test. Which shows that Patrick actually does know how to drive early on in the show
I appreciate that they give Squidward a win every now and then in brand new spongebob episodes. Its refreshing to see him not torment for no reason for once.
In my opinion, Spongebob's bad habit literally fits the exact definition of an addiction. It literally went from normal nail biting to an unstoppable hunger for people's fingernails.
And that one person telling people to "just not bite their nails" really irritates me. Yeah, I would love to stop biting my nails! But I can't help! It's an unconscious act! Hence why it's a bad habbit!
Spongebob as a show has become nothing more than eye candy for fetishes. There's always gotta be some kind of fetish that ends up being seen on the internet that somehow finds its way into an episode.
Face Freeze is a very mixed bag. On the one hand, the faces are very creative and well animated. On the other hand, the gimmick does get rather annoying after a while.
The exaggeration is impressive but it ends up overstaying its welcome from start to finish. But hey, at least we got some good memes based from that episode.
The episode was actually decent for dark age modern spongebob standards the reason people hate is kind of a positive the faces spongebob and Patrick make are scary and disturbing but there also creative .
yeah that episode kinda suffers from the same problem I had with The Paper where it's mostly one-joke dragged out and beaten into the ground, I found it less bad then The Paper as nobody was blatantly out of character like in that episode and it had more laughs.
The fact that i was a child, and found "a pal for gary" absolutely stupid when i watched it says a lot about *how* stupid it is. Spongebob may as well have been cross-eyed with half his head caved in for the whole episode.
7:26 Dude, that scene almost made me gag the first time I saw that. That's one of the nastiest moments I've ever seen in the entire show. Edit: Honestly, looking back, I think that scene is worse than The Splinter.
I am still really disappointed that you didn’t include Squid Baby. While episodes like Choir Boys or One Coarse Meal makes me sad or angry, Squid Baby pretty much activates my fight-or-flight response. Squid Baby is pretty much just the writers’ barely disguised fetish. Also, Jem Reviews described it best. “It feels like I’m watching something I shouldn’t be watching.”
i'm shocked there was no mention of 'squid baby' at all in the dishonorable mentions, that shit made me so uncomfortable as a kid and to this day it makes my stomach churn from just any mention of it. it makes me wonder if someone in the studio had a barely disguised fetish when writing the episode. that episode and 'License to Milkshake' are by far my least favorite episodes imo, just beyond unwatchable and just plain wrong, eugh.. i'd rather watch atlantis squarepantis than see those episodes ever again X~X
You pretty much stated the reason I don't ever talk about Squid Baby 🙂 I don't like to talk about the episode because I have no wish to fetish-shame or to encourage disgust in people's personal fetishes. And due to the confrontational nature of the episode, that's exactly what that episode inspires. As you said, my friend Jem already reviewed it very well so I tend to just give the episode some privacy 😄 Hope that makes sense.
Not to mention how there’s a somewhat offensive tinge to it when you remember that the plot started with a head injury. At least Whobob Whatpants’ plot starting with the injury made sense because it was, you know, amnesia. Meanwhile, Squid Baby is… well… Squid Baby. But I guess I can kinda understand Strider’s reasoning behind not including it. At the same time though, I can’t help but feel like there’s a sense of disrespect mixed into the stew of that rancid episode.
Squid Baby is hands down my pick for the worst episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. It just makes me extremely uncomfortable throughout. Only A Pal For Gary and Fungus Among Us come close to that level of making me very uncomfortable as a viewer.
It’s fun to see you talking about Spongebob episodes again. My personal hated episode is “Squidwood”. While it doesn’t get a lot of attention compared to other Squidward torture porn centered episodes, it’s catching on for its mean spirited tone.
@@3psilon9 Yeah. The problem with that episode is that it's just mean from start to finish. When Squidward refuses to play with SpongeBob, he makes a puppet to entertain himself which ends up attracting positive recognition from the town. And that's pretty much where it all goes down hill because the rest of the episode just devolves into the town's people bullying and humiliating Squidward to the very end because they didn't think he was as good as the puppet (Even though SpongeBob's puppet was literally just copying Squidward). The whole premise is just stupid and Squidward endures the Karma Houdini trope all because he didn't indulge SpongeBob's annoying antics which seems to be a common theme for many bad episodes that focus on him.
@@sunettas9738 Yeah. To be honest, it has the same energy as the "Arnold Betrays Iggy" episode from "Hey Arnold". Both episodes end with the main character getting unjustly mocked by the town toward the end and it's just too hard to watch. Anytime that episode was broadcasted, I had to skip it.
One episode I always hated was "The sponge who could fly". In this episode spongebob just gets bullied by the entire town, and when he tried to stand up for himself, he got chased of a cliff. This is followed by spongebob discovering how to fly, and the people of bikini bottom decide to take full advantage of spongebob. The only good part of this episode are the two Patchy segments at the beginning and end.
That and I hated Old Man Jenkins. I hated pretty much everyone in the episode. How everyone only were nice to him because he did what they wanted him to do. When he had enough everyone chased him.
I got a chuckle from your wife at 31:09 😂 "The horror! X2.... brah.. OH MY GOD! "🤣🤣🤣 Y'all are adorable and funny, love to listen to these on my days off.🤗
Not so fun fact about A Pal for Gary: It was written by the same guy who wrote Ren Seeks Help. If you don't know what Ren Seeks Help is then keep it that way.
I’m surprised the episode where everyone leaves town to celebrate “No SpongeBob day”, leaving SpongeBob alone by himself wondering where everyone has gone, wasn’t on this list.
I think the bad part was only a small chunk of the episode. The rest of the episode maybe of bad quality, but certainly nothing groundbreakingly bad. Guess maybe competition just got too rowdy for thay episode to be included.
I'll be honest, I kind of like that episode. I've heard a lot of people didn't like it and I was kinda surprised about it since it used to be my favorite episode when I was younger. I think I liked it so much when I was younger because it gave me an eerie feeling especially when he was talking to the krabby patrick thing and I usually liked episodes that made me feel a certain emotion.
My problem with alot of bad Spongebob episodes is that they range from boring to mean-spirited. It doesn't help that the characters are flanderized by that point... I'm surprised that Squid's Sick Daze wasn't on the list; I just felt sorry for Squidward during the whole episode!!
I really love these videos. When I need something to listen to while I work or game, these are always on my roster. Josh is just so entertaining, I can listen to him critique cartoons over and over.
What I love about this list is the amount of originality, it's not everyday I see a top 10 worst Spongebob episodes list without the same 8 episodes crammed in every list, I love your originality Josh!
I always thought that the fish ran away from “Morbid Spongebob” not because he looked gross, but because he had a snot bubble, since New Kelp City citizens were terrified of bubbles because of the gang. It makes me wonder if the animators were TRYING to make him look kinda gross, or if it was completely unintentional.
When Strider says that the animators had fun making this, something tells me that they were sadistic f*cks who thought that scarring children would be funny.
I feel like “What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?” would make a nice post-movie finale if it stuck with him being the mayor like you said. The mean-spiritedness would probably work better in that regard.
"This episode would have been a lot more enjoyable if not for him and his stupidity." Patrick is pretty much the main reasons for why this shows is failing.
I suppose that's why Nickelodeon outsourced Patrick to the Patrick Star Show, as an attempt to make him seem likeable and an actual character instead of what he actually has become in Spongebob.
I do get curious, sometimes- back in the mid-to-late 2010s, there seemed to be a lot of love for the post-sequel episodes, particular the latter half of season 9 to about 11. In recent years, that love has been retrospectively deleted as the post-sequel era seems less and less favourable. It’s not even like seasons 5 to 8, where dozens of episodes were pointed to as failures. From 2015 and onwards, the only episode that’s ever talked about is Ink Lemonade with the odd other episode nobody talks about. What happened?
I think the episodes were more well-liked, but that was only because the bar was so low because of seasons 5-8. But in retrospect, many of the episodes are considered just mediocre, or even bad, although only some are considered extremely bad.
I honestly have no idea what happened to people's warmth for them 😆 There's some outright hilarious writing in later seasons. I love a ton of modern Spongebob episodes and wish they'd get more appreciation 😄 I mention some of my favourites in the credits actually.
@@phantomstrider It's like Steven Universe in a sense, when it was on, many people adored it but as the years went on, people seemed to hate it and think more poorly of the show. As for Modern SpongeBob, I do have complicated feelings towards it. I like the creativity and the ambition that a lot of episodes have but I find many episodes to be too stupid for my taste. Other than that, your opinion is valid on modern SB.
I think Stephen Hillenburg's death played a major factor in that change. (I stopped watching the newer episodes religiously around fall 2018, but have come back to it a few times)
@KingMe2002 That's how I feel too. I'm glad that the crew is trying new things with the show, but it's too exaggerated and silly for me to really get into it
So many episodes could be saved with a rewrite. Demolition Doofus for example could still have Puff injured in the same way, but have Spongebob feel genuinely bad about it, then Ms. Puff reads about a Demolition Derby, but instead of trying to get Spongebob to do it to kill him, realize that he'd excel at it because of his bad driving and the prize money could be used to get her an operation, Spongebob would of course immediately agree and the episode could just Demolition Derby jokes with Ms. Puff cheering Spongebob on.
Kinda surprised Squid's Sick Daze didn't get included, since it basically was Squidward Torture cause...Squidward decided to fake being sick after having a nightmare of how stressful working at the Krusty Krab can be, with the episode literally ending on his nightmare becoming reality.
What I hate the most at 4:15 was when Patrick got up on the stage to “order something” and then Kelpy just walks away, the crowd for no reason loves him and let him crowd surf. WHY!? Why is the audience happy that Patrick just interrupted the concert!?
Remember, "if nautical nonsense is something true you wish, then drop on the deck and flop like a fish" this excerpt has a meaning and the meaning is that not every spongebob episode has to make sense.
Josh really came out of nowhere and posted another cartoon video after a lengthy absence. I'm graduating from High School in only two weeks time and I'm feeling a LOT of anxiety. A calming video like Strider's should help me feel a bit better. ^_^
“Smooth Jazz In Bikini Bottom” There’s no reason for Patrick to even be there. I was so mad that I yelled at him. I looked crazy as I was yelling at a screen but that showed how pee-d off I was.
To me, it's one of the worst episodes next to Squid Baby, Money Talks, Are You Happy Now and One Coarse Meal. And for one good reason, Patrick Star added nothing to the episode. What did he do to help Squidward when Spongebob did most of the work for him? All Patrick did was show up out of place and make Squidward look extremely miserable. How it's not ranked higher is beyond me.
Here’s my prediction for the list: 1. One Coarse Meal 2. A Pal for Gary 3. Someone’s in the Kitchen with Sandy 4. Yours Mine and Mine 5. House Fancy 6. Pet Sitter Pat 7. Ink Lemonade 8. Breath of Fresh Squidward 9. Choir Boys 10. Demolition Doofus Edit: Dang, I was way off
The early days of SpongeBob had Squidward suffering done right here it was funny because it wasn't over the top. We understood what was going on, and back then Squidward was really relatable so I understood his suffering which made it even funnier. Now, it feels like they have a fetish for watching him suffer and he's no longer as relatable as you used to be
For me, the worst episode of SpongeBob is even more horrific than “A Pal for Gary.” The modern episode “Krabby Patty Creature Feature” is by far unmatched in terms of body horror and gross factor. A short synopsis is that Sandy and Mr. Krabs work together to make modified Krabby Patties in a hidden lab, which taste amazing but have an unforeseen side effect: it transforms everyone into disgusting and ginormous Krabby Patty zombies who convert others by ripping chunks of their own flesh and force feed them to make them into Krabby Patty zombies. It’s like that one scene in “Fear of a Krabby Patty” where SpongeBob’s sleep deprivation from working 24/7 shifts for 43 days straight causes him to hallucinate everyone into a Krabby Patty, only it’s been injected with LSD, bath salts, and nightmare fuel…to this day, this episode makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. I’m surprised I never got shell shock from it-
To be honest, I'm very fond of that episode, as it's one of my favorites from Season 11, but I get why others aren't fans of it, due to its visual presentation.
As someone who has a nail biting addiction (since I was very little) I think the nail biting episode describes it perfectly, there's been time where I've looked at other people nails and think "I really wanna bite them" ofc I never would cuz that's creepy and wierd, but to me it does portray those intrusive/impulsive thoughts about nail biting pretty well in my opinion
Ironically Face Freeze was paired with the episode I think is among the most underrated of the series. Glove World RIP is a pretty good episode. Patrick is a still a bit of a nuisance but his shenanigans thankfully take a bit of a sideline, and it focuses more on Spongey and Patrick trying their damnedest to fix Glove World. I just feel like having it come after a really bad one did it dirty.
Like the following episode, Squiditis. Almost everyone can't remember it, due to remembering for its infamy the episode it's paired with: Demolition Doofus, which is one of the worst episodes of SpongeBob, EVER.
its such a shame where an otherwise decent episode gets its reputation ruined by an imfamously bad episode. I guess thats the cost of having 2 episodes per 30 minutes runtime@@diegodubber2140
"And now I'm going to assault your mind with Subliminal Messages!" *full bathtub* *shower 'on fire'* *melting soap with a word SOAP on it* *weird portrait and laugh* *smile* *wait, we're recordin'?* "Sorry, that you've seen that"
With “Stuck in the Wringer” I watched it when I was around 4/5 and I actually hated it then and now. It reminded me of the time I was stuck when I was younger and it all around wasn’t a good episode for me. As I have gotten stuck under a boulder that covered almost haft of my body, causing me to be stuck. It was bad timing for me with this episode basically. Also don’t worry I’m okay now. The incident only left me badly bruised and scratched up, but I’m okay.
What I appreciate most about Josh is that no matter what he's talking about, and whether it's good or bad, it always feels like its his genuine opinion. For example, in one video he stated that he didn't believe in astrology, but he did so in a respectful and humorous way that didn't make me feel weird for believing in astrology myself.
I agree with you on "Whatever Happened To Spongebob aka WhoBob WhatPants" that episode wasn't that bad. The first 5 minutes is painful to watch but the moment SpongeBob goes out of town, that's when the episode starts to get good.
when the characters are uncharacteristically "mean" to SpongeBob more than a few times maybe it is part of their character, I always thought (as a kid at least) when that happened everyone or the character in question was having a particularly bad day and sponge just took it too much to heart. Also it is kind of part of Patrick's character to be mean to SpongeBob occasionally because it happens quite a few times over the course of the seasons. Idk maybe I'm thinking too hard about it lmao :)
I actually don’t think the characters are uncharacteristic. SpongeBob accidentally makes mistakes, and it is reasonable for the characters to be angry with him, and SpongeBob thought that his friends would forever hate him, which is untrue
@@DORAisD34D Except they should be careful with harsh words when criticizing your loved ones. You would come off as a selfish, manipulative jerk for the start. In spite of pain, they just need to shut their mouths before they speak. (NEVER START A FLAME WAR UNLESS GO TO 4Chan instead.) SpongeBob didn’t mean any harm and besides, he could be underage than we think, as Hillenburg never specify what his real age.
I loved when you do spongebob videos. But the food and drink content you've been releasing has been awesome as well. I would love to see you do a updated worst movies of all time list. I'm interested in know what's changed there. Glad you and Nan are doing well
Patrick in Something Smells: “Oh my gosh if my sister finds out- Oh wait I don’t have a sister.” Also Patrick later in the show: “My sister Sam is coming over!” Also also Patrick in a spin-off: Has another sister Edit: You also read my IMDb review and I’m glad you did
I'll forever and always remember Stuck in the Wringer, not for the episode itself, but how it drove Mr. Enter to viciously attack a group of writers for... no apparent reason that I can fathom. Not to mention A Pal For Gary, for how it made that same Mr. Enter show a writer's Twitter while berating them, inadvertently encounters harrassment of the poor fellow. That's not something people just forget, y'know. Anyways, sorry for going on a brief tangent here. I really enjoyed the video, and would like to see MORE top lists within top lists whenever possible. Thank you and have a great day!
Attacking the writers just because they wrote a bad episode like they committed a crime is uncalled for. That and his infamous Turning Red review says a lot about him as a bitter critic, but at least he owned up his mistakes. Still, the writers aren't better either since they didn't do a good job with the consistency of writing a Spongebob episode.
7:25 his face after drinking that goes to show you SpongeBob slowly becoming like Ren from Ren and Stimpy. Exactly the face Ren would make in a disgustingly dark humor fashion 💀
Something I noticed with this list is that a lot of the episodes are infamous because they're gross, and not much else. People's only complaints is that the episode is gross or ugly, and while that's a valid criticism I think there needs to be more to it. An infamous SpongeBob episode shouldn't just be gross, it should be cruel, out of place, boring, anything really. A gross episode like Face Freeze doesn't stand remotely close to genuinely bad episodes like A Pal for Gary or One Course Meal.
The bad _Spongebob SquarePants_ episodes during the "post-movie era" seasons made me glad about Stephen Hillenburg's comeback in Season 9, otherwise the series could've gone worse and continued to "jump the shark" if it wasn't for him. The series maybe did come along the way and hasn't aged a day, but looking back to Season 6 - 8, that era was weird and disturbing that it didn't fit the show's happy-go-lucky, tropical atmosphere.
Honestly, I've heard a lot of good things things about the recent seasons, but I just can't stand to watch them because I *despise* the animation. Don't get me wrong, I like exaggerated and expressive cartoons, but the new seasons are just... way too much. It feels so over the top and low-key disturbing. I wish I could enjoy all these episodes that people keep praising, but I just physically cannot watch anything past season 9
Can i just say that phantom has really grown as a channel I've been watching for a long time and still love you making amazing videos and your partner getting involved too is amazing
I like psychological horror but what makes Spong Bong concerning when it delves into that territory is that those doing the tormenting tend to not get punished at least in later seasons. If I were in Gary's position in A Pal For Gary, I'd think something was up with Spongebob. Reminds me of a family where the new kid beats someone up and the parent gaslights the victim. Looking at you too, Bendy and Mr. Harrimen! And of course, there's One Coarse Meal where Krabbs gets minor inconvenience compared to being stalked for half a month like Plankton was.
While SpongeBob isn't a favorite of mine, I still love these videos. That's because of your passion and love for the show! I actually found you through Anime America, so seeing you talk about anime and cartoons is quite a treat! I also love that you branched out into other topics. Personally you do whatever videos you want! I will watch either way!
You know, the worst part about “SpongeBob’s Bad Habit” is when you put the fact that it’s one of the “overexpressive modern” episodes of Spongebob on top of the gross-concept of biting nails
7:03 Fun Fact: did you know the voice of the Ice cream King is the same guy who Voices “Uncle Grandpa”. Now that you know that fact you can probably image this scene as Patrick and Uncle Grandpa trying to see who’s Dummer
Seeing other peoples' response to some of these infamous episodes, like Mr. Enter for example saying there are right and wrong ways to tackle dark subject matter, gives a little insight to their views. There's also Pet Sitter Pat which is A Pal for Gary 2.0. If Puffy Fluffy is a xenomorph, Patrick in that episode is Ash... not sure if that comparison makes sense, but at least Puffy was instinctively a monster, Patrick's just a jerk.
I hate Waiting as much as anyone else but I have to say that the shot of Spongebob and Patrick's stomachs snapping at each other in hunger has always stuck with me, which is pretty cool
I really liked the ending In Smooth Jazz because it’s one of times where SpongeBob actually follows consistency. We all know Squidward’s favourite instrument is the clarinet and his favourite celebrity is Kelpy G but SpongeBob’s favourite instrument is the ukulele since he’s been playing it in multiple episodes e.g. The Fun Song, The Camp Fire Song and although Kelpy rejects Squidward, he admires SpongeBob natural talent in playing the ukulele so the ending worked out well bringing two musicians together.
Nice to see a return to your roots Strider :3 Still find it amazing how you can cover so many topics and still make it feel fresh and enjoyable to watch :3
The gross out episodes never really phased me. As someone who grew up with the internet in the 2000s, and all the horrific things like Live Leak and two girls one cup, these were VERY tame in comparison.
I actually liked "I'm with Stupid", a lot of it is probably nostalgia bonus (I also liked "Dumped", I always cried at the end as a kid xD) but while I can see why people don't like it, it did have a bunch of funny moments that have stuck with me.
I am so glad your starting to go into cartoons again. It’s not that I didn’t like the other videos you’ve been doing, far from it actually, but I still have really been wishing u could integrate cartoons into your formula again. And I’m really glad you listened to fans who agree with me, even though we were in the minority.
And let's not forget the surreal horror atmosphere that doesn't match the cheery, tropical tone of Spongebob.
Imo ink lemonade is the worst SpongeBob episode
@@askewlewyyy2594 I can highly agree
And also Pet Sitter Pat

SpongeBob was butchered there terribly so I don't forgive the episode
The Patrick Star Show contradicted this.
That goes beyond mean-spirited into downright malicious evil, and he doesn't face any real consequences for it
Plus Gary actually gets revenge on Puffy Fluffy at the end. Krabs suffers practically no retribution for his antics.
Well he did also get scared when his fear was revealed to be mimes but that's still not a good enough punishment.
Dude should be in jail for essentially assisted suicide.
The entire cast hated that episode, Krabs' voice actor even said that he felt uncomfortable reading some of the lines for the episode.
This is why Spongebob was awesome, more kids shows should hold nothing back. Kids can absolutely take it.
Ironically enough, I think that "Are You Happy Now?" handled themes of depression better than One Coarse Meal (though that's not really a high bar).
The only part I liked about the doorbell scene in "Pet or Pests" was the line Spongebob saying: *"Good morning, Mrs. Puff"*
Mrs Puff: *"It almost was"* 😂
Lmfao I love that
A lot of people have declared SpongeBob season 6 and 7 as the “gross out era” of SpongeBob, so episodes like “SpongeBob’s Bad Habit” are quite disappointing since it shows me that the staff keeps falling back into bad habits themselves.
And I'm glad that era is already over now.
Me to
I can imagine how would Hop Pop feel after watching these episodes for himself.
Similarly, I can say the same with Yukari "Yukatan" Takeba too.
face freeze is a classic
and thank God SpongeBob didn't end up like Season 6 to 9A after Stephen Hillenberg passed away. Rest in peace mate. The Paul Tibbit era today is way more different than the show's dark age (also under Tibbit).
I watched 'Stuck in the Wringer' when I was a kid, and there's one line I've never forgotten:
Patrick - "You ruined my ice cream!"
Spongebob - "YOU RUINED MY LIFE!"
Even as a kid, I was annoyed at everyone siding with Patrick afterwards. I mean, how didn't I *hate* that episode?

@@gamegod6859 Ok, close enough
@@gamegod6859 damn, he got me. can't really argue with that
I skip this episode every time it comes on😭
One of the fish says to Spongebob something like: Maybe the problem is YOUR heart
Even as a kid I was like: Bruh 🗿
When Patrick eats a concert ticket and sea monkeys for no reason, he clearly has a problem.
Pica, perhaps?
@PopcornPie maybe. I've heard bits about Pica, but the fact he went out of his way to search for Spongebob's sea monkeys for the sole purpose of devouring them and the only "explanation" we get is him getting sassy when he gets caught is off-putting
Tarrare-core
To paraphrase Mr. Enter, "Modern Patrick isn't dumb. He's malicious. "
I literally remember watching that episode when I was 8-9 years old, and even as a dumb kid, it genuinely made my blood boil
An odd thing about “Pets or Pests” is Larry the Lobster appears and doesn’t seem to know SpongeBob.
I remember seeing that and thinking it was weird too
I'm personally more bothered by the fact that he attempted to consume what are, essentially, Bikini Bottom's stand in for puppies. I mean, I know they're not exactly cute, but that idea still rubs me the wrong way.
@@newbiegamelover4767 It is kinda messed up
Gee, I hope someone got fired for that blunder
We can just assume that episode took place before he knew SpongeBob
I'm surprised Ink Lemonade wasn't mentioned, that is an episode that makes me both physically and mentally ill just from thinking about it.
MrEnturd and his fanboys like you are mentally ill.
I 100% agree with your comment
Yeah, if anything, they just made Spongebob more unlikeable, that I can't blame Squidward for why he hates being around him so much.
i 100% agree, and that honestly sounds like a great Spongebob episode.
i never understood the constant need to torture Squidward, like, yeah, he's a bit of a grump, but he's a grump for a reason; because he's constantly being treated like some sort of punching bag, for seemingly no reason.
Yeah, or like SpongeBob does something that at first Squidward gets really mad about, thinking that SpongeBob just ruined his night, but then whatever SpongeBob did actually leads to Squidward having a really good time and even getting to meet or play with Kelpie G (or whatever the dude's name was)
I think the only time that the "Squidward suffering" trope works is when Squidward himself causes it by being a jerk or having a big head
@@shadowshade904Kelpy G.. And yeah that's how they should have fixed it.
I also hated the episode where Plankton wears Sandy’s skin, and the one where Spongebob inflates his pants to fly
I like to imagine that if gene from wreck it Ralph was in stuck in the wringer, he would totally defend SpongeBob.
In my opinion, Spongebob's bad habit literally fits the exact definition of an addiction. It literally went from normal nail biting to an unstoppable hunger for people's fingernails.
I reckon Rocko's Modern Life did a better job at covering this addiction
And that one person telling people to "just not bite their nails" really irritates me. Yeah, I would love to stop biting my nails! But I can't help! It's an unconscious act! Hence why it's a bad habbit!
I think the Spongebob episode called "Hook" did covered the addiction way better. Made2Express made a video about it.
Nailbiter Part 2
Spongebob as a show has become nothing more than eye candy for fetishes. There's always gotta be some kind of fetish that ends up being seen on the internet that somehow finds its way into an episode.
25:20 It's actually weird to see episodes where Sandy appears as SpongeBob's girlfriend, while others where she appears as just a good friend.
The face I thought was funny was Patrick looking like Majin Buu from DBZ.
it's one of those episodes you can only watch once and find it hilarious, after that it's just the same joke over and over again
Squid Baby used to be my favorite lmaoo
(I AM FAR PAST IT NOW)
Squid Baby is hands down my pick for the worst episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.
FINALLY! SOMEONE ACTUALLY HAS THE SAME LEAST FAVORITE EPISODE AS ME!
The whole premise is just stupid and Squidward endures the Karma Houdini trope all because he didn't indulge SpongeBob's annoying antics which seems to be a common theme for many bad episodes that focus on him.
yeah i never liked SquidWood.
Same here! That was probably the first Spongebob episode I ever really hated
I like that episode only one moment i don't like when SpongeBob got chases by Bikini Bottomites
That and I hated Old Man Jenkins. I hated pretty much everyone in the episode. How everyone only were nice to him because he did what they wanted him to do. When he had enough everyone chased him.
The end of the episode was good too! I actually cried from emotion watching it, when he starts singing the song- I guess I get emotional easily 😭

Oh, that explains a LOT
I think I liked it so much when I was younger because it gave me an eerie feeling especially when he was talking to the krabby patrick thing and I usually liked episodes that made me feel a certain emotion.
that episode made me genuinely so sad every time it came on lol
I honestly liked that one a lot when I was younger. It’s horrible when you think about it, but it is pretty funny
How was that episode bad?
My problem with alot of bad Spongebob episodes is that they range from boring to mean-spirited. It doesn't help that the characters are flanderized by that point...
I'm surprised that Squid's Sick Daze wasn't on the list; I just felt sorry for Squidward during the whole episode!!
Are You Happy Now? is just asking for the show to be dark.
I really love these videos. When I need something to listen to while I work or game, these are always on my roster. Josh is just so entertaining, I can listen to him critique cartoons over and over.
Spongebob's Bad Habit was very personal to me as since I'm Autistic, chewing/biting/eatinh my nails is my only way to stim
Dumped might suck, but I love the topper of Patrick in his underwear yelling “I thought we had something special” to Gary.
What I love about this list is the amount of originality, it's not everyday I see a top 10 worst Spongebob episodes list without the same 8 episodes crammed in every list, I love your originality Josh!
I’ve been enjoying the new food videos, but it’s an absolute delight to see a cartoon video pop up after such a long stretch of not doing them
Yea. I've been liking his videos about things other than cartoons but this is still cool
Yeah, I always thought that as well!
When Strider says that the animators had fun making this, something tells me that they were sadistic f*cks who thought that scarring children would be funny.
I don’t know what the animators were thinking when adding that scene. Do they want to give the kids nightmares or PTSD?
19:34 I liked the part where the guy said “let’s go see what this fat guy is talking about” when krabs built the 1 penny theatre
I feel like “What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?” would make a nice post-movie finale if it stuck with him being the mayor like you said. The mean-spiritedness would probably work better in that regard.
"This episode would have been a lot more enjoyable if not for him and his stupidity."
Patrick is pretty much the main reasons for why this shows is failing.
Krabs and Patrick flanderization happens a lot.
Some say the same thing about South Park and Randy Marsh.
I suppose that's why Nickelodeon outsourced Patrick to the Patrick Star Show, as an attempt to make him seem likeable and an actual character instead of what he actually has become in Spongebob.
I really hate bad episodes of SpongeBob he is badly written and out of character.
@@Whocares158 Amen

Here’s my prediction for the list:

I love the long doorbell scene. I am not ashamed.

This is why's he's miles above several other review channels, who always come off as overly-judgemental, or just plain mean-spirited

Face freeze is one of my favorites for me simply out of nostalgia since me and my dad loved it when I was younger.
Yep.
Go away Mr. Friendship!
25:15 FUN FACT: Hillenburg himself said in a 2002 interview that SpongeBob is ace.
Really? Huh, neat
Ace is not aro, so he could still want to date someone. However, in my opinion, I just can't feasibly see him with anyone romantically.
"He's a wet match, in a dark cave."
-Patrick's Dad
That quote has stayed with me for years 😂
Can i just say that phantom has really grown as a channel I've been watching for a long time and still love you making amazing videos and your partner getting involved too is amazing
Stoked to see you talking about cartoons again! Hope to see more in the future!
I will watch either way!
strider: gooses are wonderful
canadians: are you sure about that
The fact that there weren't that many pre-movie episodes on this list is a testiment to how great the original three seasons were.
You know, the worst part about “SpongeBob’s Bad Habit” is when you put the fact that it’s one of the “overexpressive modern” episodes of Spongebob on top of the gross-concept of biting nails
7:03 Fun Fact: did you know the voice of the Ice cream King is the same guy who Voices
“Uncle Grandpa”.
Now that you know that fact you can probably image this scene as Patrick and Uncle Grandpa trying to see who’s Dummer
Me: Mamma Mia.
Which Ash Ketchum are you talking about?
Well that was a fun arc of seeing food and toys but I'm glad we're back to our regular cartoon show
I hate Waiting as much as anyone else but I have to say that the shot of Spongebob and Patrick's stomachs snapping at each other in hunger has always stuck with me, which is pretty cool
Trust me about the Sandy Girlfriend thing, THEY TRIED! Remember Truth or Square!?
Nice to see a return to your roots Strider :3 Still find it amazing how you can cover so many topics and still make it feel fresh and enjoyable to watch :3
The gross out episodes never really phased me. As someone who grew up with the internet in the 2000s, and all the horrific things like Live Leak and two girls one cup, these were VERY tame in comparison.
Thus epsoide disturbs me but Its tame to all the horrific things I watch online like gore videos or creepypasta's
@@mrfunnixd7381 Yes, because spooky internet stories are comparable to actual video footage of people dying horrifically.
@@metal6948 I'm sorry for adding creepypastas on there I should have put shock content instead
