The South Park grudge has been known widely by fans of both shows. However, funny enough, there has been that same level of controversy with The Simpson's as well. Even though Seth and Matt Groening are respectful to each other, their writers and staff had an obvious beef til the crossover happened. Since then, Family Guy has owned up to being inspired; right down to Peter openly admitting " I know we said we borrow a little from the Simpson's....but we borrow ALOT from The Simpsons!"

my theory is that they realized way more people watched on adult swim, which is much less strict with censors, than on fox. not to mention its newfound popularity on as is what got fans demanding fox bring it back. so they just decided to do whatever no matter how offensive or wild it was knowing that if it gets censored on fox it'll still air somewhat intact on as and get the same amount if not more viewers anyway.

Listen, as a trans person who's watched family guy for a while, it's a extremely satire show that is NOT to be taken seriously. I've always seen it as a something that shows you basically how NOT to act, It has its good moments but overall, its a joke. Its how you don't react/don't treat people. Alot of these things are horrific. Murder/Death/Hatecrime/etc are horrible but its cathartic to laugh at them. Its okay to laugh at bad things. It's honestly depressing when you realize Brenda has passed away. In one episode from the recent seasons, there's a scene where Peter is in a coma after getting into a car wreck and sees this big boat full of characters who passed away. Angela, Quagmires girlfriend from the James Woods two part episode, Diane and even Jeff. If you look in the background, you'll see Brenda. So now I speculate she possibly took her life due to the fact she was too codependent on Jeff moreso because she was pregnant or because she suffered from mental illness and or PTSD from having to deal with him for so long. Honestly, as a trans person myself I think the introduction of Ida was actually pretty well handled. It literally covered what a LOT of trans people go through and wasn't subtle about how Transphobic people can be. And the fact that Ida, the entire time, never stops being herself, never considers going back and puts her foot down with her own son was BEAUTIFUL. "Love me for who I am and accept that I'm finally happy, or lose me forever" was something a lot of trans people are afraid of having to do. I've known too many people who de-transitioned because they figured making everyone else happy was better than being happy themselves. I genuinely think "Quagmire's Dad" handled things perfectly. And yes, sometimes they go way too far, sometimes their jokes are there purely to be offensive and "that's the joke" ... but if only the writers and douchebags are laughing, you're telling the wrong jokes. I haven't seen any of the later episodes [I believe the season where Cleveland returns is the last I've personally seen] but I think that episode with the introduction of Ida was one of the best on handling Trans people. Because it throws the Transphobia right up there, it doesn't have a song and dance of someone "Kind of a lil off put" who comes around like a lot of other shows do. Too many shows that try to do some story on being trans usually make it a fantasy. "Everyone is so happy for you, and supports you! Except Dave, but by the end of the episode Dave will be the biggest supporter of all!!" - Like no, that's not real. What happens in that episode is REAL [sadly] and honestly. Other than how quick Ida's turn around is but .. I digress.
Plus, it gave pretty real reactions, not only the Griffin's kind of being terrible as usual - but Quagmire. That was some of the biggest and best growth he's had. And his reaction was perfect. He's angry, and confused. He yells at Ida, he demands to know how HE is supposed to feel about it. "What am I supposed to call you?!" How about Ida?
    Like, that was poetry.
Now sure, it didn't cover the real dangers that can go into it - no one attacks Ida or beats her up for being trans. But the way they show Peter and Lois behaving is pretty realistic. They way Quagmire reacts is pretty realistic. The growth to show that, hey, male or female, this person is someone who matters to me - their legacy isn't erased just because their body has changed. I love this person, and their happiness matters to me, so despite not being 100% sure how to handle this, I'm going to do my best going forward to make them happy.
Hell until he learns that it's Brian [[and even a bit after if we're honest]] - Quagmire is even happy his dad found someone and is dating them. I just personally think that episode was actually great - yes they do take unnecessary shots at it, the throwing up gag I literally always scrub through because it's tired - buuuuuuut ... yeah I've known guys who react that way. Actually, that's pretty much why Blair White says that if you're trans, you say that LONG BEFORE you get that fair with a person, even if it's the first night. Because yeah, some guys might just be like Brian, others might attack you for "tricking them" or worse, endanger everyone in your household because you "tricked" them and no one in the house stopped you. [Major eye roll, but sadly how people react]

    • @Crow_Smith
      @Crow_Smith Год назад +18

@Bitch Titters Yeah - I covered this myself by saying "What happens in that episode is REAL [sadly] and honest. Other than how quick Ida's turn around is but .. I digress." -- I mean it is a cartoon, Darth is right. Transitions are slow and painful and drag on. From what I saw of the clip above Peter's is equally fast. But it's a cartoon, and with a 22 minute run time on average, it'd be unrealistic to draw it out - unless Brian was going to be away for a few years there was no way he'd see that. Now yes, if it was a different cartoon, it may well have had several seasons of her transitioning - however, it's not. I mean, as Darth also says "Suspension of Disbelief" -- I mean, Bonnie was pregnant for like 10 years of the show and then has a totally healthy, normal weight and sized baby. And in the show they call out the time frame, so can't just write that off as those 10 years happening in 1 year of the cartoon character's lives or anything like that.
And I also think it's totally fine if you personally cannot get past the transphobia, I do think that a lot of people can't .. . and granted, I've not seen some of the later seasons where they dive into this topic and character again, however - the episodes I saw with her were handled so well. And the transphobia in the show is realistically portrayed [without crossing into the violence aspect] and she handles herself amazingly. And I sincerely think the "Take me as I am, or you're going to have to lose me forever" statement to her own son added to the "What do I call you?!" How about Ida? ["How about my name?"] retorts are perfect. It's also /Family Guy/ - if we expected them to handle things perfectly we'd be laughed at for thinking a show like this could. Hell I think if they DID the show would be quickly canceled for the viewership dropping. No one watches South Park or Family Guy [or American Dad or Simpsons] for how they "Tactfully handle hot button issues" ... and if they do ... maybe find different shows to watch because yikes.

@@MysticalWizard101 1. Feeling like I was born the wrong gender and never really aligning with anyone of my birth gender in a way that other people felt with theirs. Like, my older brother clicked with guys and understands them. I clicked with guys and understand them, I RARELY click with girls in a way that I felt like I belonged. I always felt like an outsider to all non-Tomboy girls. And even then I felt like I couldn't relate.
      2. Yes. There is nothing else needed to be said here. Yes is the only answer.
      3. Of course, my mother is LGBT, most of my friends are and a lot of people I know are. It's usually LGBT people who forget what the damn T stands for - and sadly, I find the most hate comes from Lesbians [I've been told by a few that "pretty girls like you should stop "wanting to be men" .." = - = I'm not pretty and that makes me feel gross.] but I've found the most support coming from Gay Men. A lot of my friends are gay men and they support me wanting to transition, my lesbian stepmom is very "I call it like I see it, if it has X parts, it's X gender - even if they transition", she's not very supportive [despite following a bunch of trans influencers] -- she often laments that it's "Not fair so many GUYS pass as girls" -yuck- and my lesbian mother [her wife] is like "I just want people to be happy, what they do doesn't affect me, so I don't care." and she's very supportive of trans people. I support LGBTQ+ because the T in that stands for Trans, and I'm a part of the community. [Plus outside of being trans I'm LGBT anyway]. However, LGBT isn't like being Republican or Democrat or Antifa or w/e, it's not a choice to be a part of it. It's not an organization or a group, it's just a label for a community of people. So saying "The recent LGBTQ haave shown questionable decisions" -- any group/community/etc as big as LGBT is going to show questionable choices among it's individuals, as a whole, the progress is still there. Because the way you say "some are using the group to push personal agendas, and done nasty things to ruin how LGBT+ are looked at" ... yeah, so have pretty much those of any major religion, belief system, government and pretty much anything else. I mean when we see a government do bad we go "Well can you support the people of that country when their government is crap?" yes. Yes I can. I can support my fellow Americans while knowing out Government is absolutely terrible. I can support Christians while knowing some big mouthed Christians are pushing their very anti-LGBT and anti-women agendas and making everyone else look bad [the sad thing is how much support they have but I digress] but that doesn't make me go "All Christians are the problem" - same with LGBT.
      4. It depends. Some are genuinely supportive, you can usually tell. Did they go rainbow and do literally nothing else for Pride Month? They're not supportive. Did they go rainbow AND tell haters to get bent AND donate money to LGBTQIA+ organizations like the Trevor Project / Work with LGBT+ creators to make the content used to make the donations? They're more likely to be supportive.
      5. Again, it depends. Truly "woke" movies are probably garbage. Pandering garbage meant to look woke and be good, and they're trash. But genuinely woke media can be decent. Basically, if you see a social justice warrior saying to see it and change your mind, it's probably trash.
      6. Yes. But also no. I think that media pushes a false narrative while covering the struggles and make being trans seem as simple as going "I'm trans" and then ... usually being terrible according to most media. But I also think media [not news media] makes it seem like it's an easy call and so quick of a turn around instead of years of therapy and expensive, painful surgeries. Plus the massive loss of people you loved and held dear.
      7. It is difficult, and I think the people that want to kill trans people just for being trans does make it harder. And that so many people in the LGBT community are anti-trans doesn't help either. And that's ignoring the people who wouldn't kill you, but would let you die because you're an abomonation in their eyes and ... yeah it's quite difficult. I think it does vary on where you live and what access you have, like in Turkey you'll possibly be murdered, but in places in Europe you'll probably have a safe transition and be accepted more easily, ya know?
      8. It depends, some people are super up their own a$$ about what it means to be trans. I've had 3 "Trans" partners in my life. One that stated they were trans when I found out they lied about their gender [online dating] but after we broke it off never claimed to be trans again and is cisgendered now. One that was so specific on how I should transition [cut your hair short, grow a beard, dress this way, etc] but didn't want to follow any of that for herself [grow your hair out, shave, wax, dress this way, etc] and that was pretty difficult. My current partner is pretty supportive of me and I support him too. It's been easy with him because we've had a lot of similar experiences and fear of coming out etc.
      9. I personally don't believe so. I think it's fine to want to date women but be off put by transwomen. You can't control your sexuality. It's always funny to me that people who are all about "Support me and my struggles!" will also tell people theirs are invalid. "Support X sexuality ... but not that one, because I personally don't get to be with those people and I want to, so it's unfair to me >(" ... that's how it comes across. Besides, why would you WANT to date someone who isn't attracted to you? And if they're otherwise totally supportive and fine with trans people, they're not transphobic. I mean that's like asking if it's homophobic for a straight man to not want to date a drag queen. No? [Okay not exactly but still]. He's straight, he can't change that. Even if that drag queen makes a 100% convincing woman. Ya know? ... again not the best example buuuut
      10. This one is tricky for me, because the best results come from starting hormones before the natural ones take over [i.e before puberty] but ... then there is a lot of debate about truly knowing yourself and everything. And some kids can misunderstand their feelings [example: I've seen one who thought because boys had it easier than her [in her opinion] that she'd have it easier to be a boy. So she convinced herself that since she was a tomboy anyway, she was a boy. She now is stuck with a deep, male voice despite de-transitioning because it was a misunderstanding on her part and she started really young [under 10 I believe].]. BUT I think if they've worked with therapists and are confirmed to have dysphoria, it wouldn't hurt to start some of their transition, but not the surgeries. They're dangerous enough on adults, I imagine they'd be worse on child.
      11. It's not. It's a straight relationship. Unless one of them isn't straight - that is. Heteronormative or Hetero-appearing isn't just hetero. Like a bisexual guy dating a bisexual girl isn't a "Straight relationship" - because they're not straight people. IF that makes sense?
      12. No ... they/them has been a singular pronoun pretty much since the dawn of English. When you don't know someone's gender and your friend is like "Oh the Landlord called" you go "What did THEY say?" You don't ASSUME it's 2 or more landlords, you know it's just ONE landlord. Best example of singular meaning to the they/them pronoun.
      13. If you're going to the bathroom for any other purpose than to use the bathroom for what it's for, you don't belong in a bathroom. Period. Gender is irrelevant.
      14. No. Next question.
      15. No, but they're a dick if they're doing the opposite on purpose. It'd be like me calling you an IT or if you're male and I call you a SHE in a mean way. that's a dick move. If I tell you my pronouns are he/him and you're like "Alright little girl" you're a dick. And while I won't force you to use my pronouns, you will let an entire chat or room of people know you're a dick and I won't associate.
      16. I personally don't care for the Xem/Xim etc pronouns - but to each their own. I think if you say something is your genuine pronouns because that makes YOU comfortable, then all I can say is I'll try to remember and use them properly. But if you're doing it to be edgy, or SO QUIRKY ...just ...just stop.
      17. Hate to break it to you but ... they don't cut it off. They turn it inside out.
      18. I mean ... it depends on your definition of "Support" - if you mean Accepting and paying for them and backing them entirely, not necessarily? Liiike ... this is a loaded question, but so long as you're not trying to HURT trans people [or any one else you don't "Support" that isn't hurting anyone else] then I guess it's okay? And by hurt I mean: physically, or making their life harder, or picking laws and stuff to ban their existence [tf is wrong with you?] etc. Not just physically harm.
      19. No.
      20. It depends on the person, some people make a genuine mistake. This is why I personally think therapy is a major thing needed in transitioning. I've known too many people [personally and stories] that made a mistake. They misunderstood how they felt and had no one to help them navigate and be sure they weren't in the wrong. One was someone who has the same mental illness/problem? idk what to call it, but that drives people to keep getting plastic surgery because they're NEVER Happy with how they look because they're ALWAYS sure it's still wrong/bad/ugly/etc that led her to transition and now she's de-transitioning [still uses she/her pronouns atm so I'm using them] because she feels she was a man all along. To me personally, at least right now [who knows, I've not started a proper transition yet and don't have proper therapy atm] I am happy.

Personally, my biggest issue with Family Guy's offensive humor is that, for the overwhelming majority of the jokes, the punchline is simply "it's offensive", rather than having any sort of tact or subtlety to it. Plain and simple, like so much allegedly-"adult" animation, it is juvenile and, on many occasions, goes beyond simply pushing the boundaries and straight to insulting the people involved. I find the Down Syndrome/Sarah Palin situation to be the most emblematic of this, as the entire crux of the joke is "Her kid has Down Syndrome! Laugh at her!"
Don't get me wrong. I love dark, offensive, and shock humor-"The Aristocrats" joke is one of my favorite comedy bits of all time. However, it has to be done right, and for the overwhelming majority of its jokes, Family Guy simply doesn't.

Even HE is over it, and wants to move on. "When you Wish upon a Weinstine" is just so quaint now. It's incredibly tame, even for early Family Guy standards and the only small adjustment they made when it finally aired was changing Peter's "Even though they killed my Lord" to "I don't think they killed my Lord." Yet, you look at the one where Lois was revealed to be Jewish all along, even bringing back Max, and it's balls to the wall. That said, I'm surprised the episode where Stewie inseminates himself with Brian's DNA isn't featured. Even I found that episode went too far, but then again it was all worth it for that mutant hybrid baby scene at the end. Though I think they could have had that scene with a much less disgusting premise.

Offense for the sake of offense isn't funny. There's ways to poke at sensitive subjects but still respect their seriousness and Family Guy just lacks any hint of respect (to the point of seeming almost gleefully cruel at times) for most of the issues they joke about.

right. there are soooo many ways to make entertaining and funny jokes about say gay and trans people. but if the joke itself is that they exist, idk, theres just nothing really funny about that. its offensive but that isnt even the worst thing about that kind of joke, the worst thing is that theres simply no humor inherent in the existence of queer people. a great comparison is between the scene at the gay camp vs quagmires mom. the man at the gay camp is affected and stereotypically gay but he's used to joke about the other men not really being stright (like most victims of anti-gay camps tend to be). with quagmires mom though, the joke is that shes disgusting. thats not saying anything witty or clever, thats just regurgitating what have been very mainstream opinions for a long time up until now.

It’s genuinely sad because not only was she in an abusive relationship, and not only did she only separate because her boyfriend “broke up”, but the final nail in the coffin is that she somehow died, probably not even fully recovered from that.

I know what to expect before diving in those shows. Thats were family guy gets its uniqueness. The fact that most of the jokes are cut-aways makes its extremely unpredictable which inturn keeps me engaged. Yes it has a lot of dark stuffs, but family guy has always been that way and people who cannot take things light-heartedly should not watch the show at the first place. “Prom Night Dumpster Baby” was based on a real event? I just always assumed it was making fun of teen girls having abortions, I thought the prom night part was referring to the circumstances of conception and the “babies” were the personification of the terminated foetuses. Now that I think about it, I can’t imagine a song about abortion making it through Fox’s censors. It actually makes much more sense for it to be based off a literal prom night birth. I don’t mind the offensive/dark humor because that’s what they are, it’s gonna be a thing as always, BUT, my issue is how some of the characters changed compared to season 1-5, to after that, including how the show went downhill (from my view).
Even though peter might be a manchild, he doesn’t go out of his way to nearly kill or beat up someone as his character was like Patrick, except he’s more dumb, but at least a comical type of dumb. The thing I hate is that after S5, he starts to do those things and doesn’t see what he’s done as wrong up until all of a sudden he goes, “oh my god lois, you’re right,” and then everyone forgives him like nothing happened. However, to be fair, he’s way better than Lois which I’ll explain next.
Lois was a usual supporting house wife who never really flirted with anyone, hell she wasn’t really like how she was afterwards. Also she never really beats up Peter or does something where it gives her some sort of power over her family. Now, she’s pretty much a w**re, she’s abusive, and unlike Peter, she never feels sympathetic nor apologizes afterwards, it just skips those moments like nothing happened. Hell whenever there’s an episode where she’s strong in some way, she always has to beat or abuse Peter/someone in a way like she has power over them.
As for Meg, well… I wouldn’t say she was bad, she just became like squidward where she’s always picked on or is like a punching bad. Hell there’s an episode where she stood up for herself and near the end, she forgives them, and you wanna know why? Because APPARENTLY, it’s ok for her to be a punching bag since that lets everyone off their steam onto her… like yeah, it doesn’t make sense, and yet they try to make it seem like it’s an ok situation.
Now Brian, I’m just gonna summarize it, he went from a dog who used to be a voice of reason and likable, to being an a**hole. If you think otherwise, he would literally give a kid aids just to teach them a lesson. Also he usually for some reason he always portrays himself as something good, before telling someone something where it contradicts what he “thinks himself” to be.
Now as for the show, I’m just gonna try to explain this the best I can, It’s just not like how it was. For some reason they often rely on skits, some Brian & Stewie adventure type of sh*t, or some cutaways. To me, this show was better when it was season 1-5 because you could tell the comedy and jokes are actually good, it wasn’t over the top messed up blood, they literally had an episode where Chris and Peter fight, before deciding to get along by playing golf, but unknowingly accidentally hitting someone with their golf ball, while also focusing on the fact that they are bonding as a father & son.
To me, South Park, while also on a long run, is at least bearable to watch since they don’t really rely on characters having a switch into being something they aren’t.
Tl;dr, family guy was better in S1-5, the characters had a bad change of personality like SpongeBob’s S1-3, to S4 and after.
