It’s a irony that you didn’t put Charlotte in the list but in the thumbnail. Charlotte spoiled Angelica lile her husband and both didn’t say the word that Angelica said is a bad word
@@warbes6200ohhh yes! Very good suggestion there warbes6200! A great contender for the worst parents award. Heck worst TOWN award 😂 very good show sad it was cancelled 😢
@@daniapfel2825 I did have a Rugrats section recorded but removed it because I felt that the fathers were just as to blame as the moms were for not watching over their kids. Same goes for both of Angelica's parents. So going to save that to my inevitable Angelica timeline haha
The saddest thing about both Peter and Lois is that they used to just be parodies of sitcom parents like Homer and Marge and just.. over time, they became malevolent instead of just a bit dumb, I even heard that the reason why Meg is their punching bag is because the original voice actress left on bad terms with the team so the team decided to write her into being a punching bag.
Heard from where? According to interviews, Seth said that the writers had a hard time writing her character due to a lack of knowledge about teenage girls. They then turned her into a punching bag, kinda not knowing what else to do with her. I remember reading an article where Lacey Chabert said she had no ill feelings towards the show and that she left because she had other projects to attend. She even guest starred on an episode of Family Guy a couple years ago.
Peter/Lois and Homer/Marge are for sure inspired by Norman Lear’s previous sitcom couples like Archie and Edith Bunker so it’s sad to see how over time their original selves got bastardized cause of the shows going on for too long
I'd like to see the "parents who broke the cycle of abuse" video, for sure. Doof and Hank would be pretty high on the list, though if the interquels for Avatar catch up to Zuko parenting Izumi, he'll probably take the cake. I actually think Bea should have been third place, considering she hasn't intentionally caused her baby to have defects(like Lois did to Chris) or went to the extremes Linda did.
this is part of why i love both doof and hank so much. they really do have good hearts and try their best with their kids. i also love zuko for breaking the cycle of abuse too.
He should cut ties with his parents, I'd never want to be near them again, after what they did to me in my childhood, like it wasn't his fault he was born, it was their fault, they're the ones who made him.
The worst cartoon mum is Lois Griffin. She’s… irredeemable. She basically told her daughter to commit suicide. That alone puts her on the summit, and we have barely scratched the surface.
I am missing Mother Gothel from Tanged (The Series) on this list. Keeping her 4 year old daughter looked up - using her as a slave/housekeeper - seeing her as a "little pest" - emotionally abusing her (mostly neglect) - not even giving her an actual bed to sleep on, but a footstool and lastly: abandoning her and essentially leaving her to die (if no one would have found her), because she (Gothel) kidnapped another child, which she treated just as badly for 18 more years
If I remember from her rules about the worst dads, she wasn't going to include movies. She didn't even include dads from series that were movies first (which is what Tangled is) So I'm assuming its because she's from a series that was a movie first and everyone just...kinda assumed she died in the movie anyway
The mom in Horrid Henry is definitely one of the worst cartoon moms, she favours Henry’s brother and blames Henry for everything. She clapped at the thought of Henry disappearing, but her worst moment was when she locked Henry in his room for hours with nothing in it.
I don’t think that’s exactly fair since Horrid Henry is supposed to be a childish representation of the world. Not like Mona the Vampire where it’s explicitly clear the fantasy elements are only in her head, but that the whole world is presented in a way that kids will find more relatable so peoples attributes are exaggerated- down to most kids only being their one personality trait expressed through their nickname lol. So the show is written with the mindset of making the parents unreasonable as that’s how most kids perceive their parents at a young age. If that lens wasn’t there, then yeah they’re both pretty terrible to him, but since they’re meant to be stereotypes, I don’t think it’s fair to put them on the same level as the others on the list.
@@Longshanks1690 well, if we're going that route than we shouldn't have Timmy's mom in the list since she is also supposed to be a stereotype- Even more extreme than Henry's mom.
@@Noteflunked I would kinda say the same because everything in Fairly Odd Parents is so overblown and so over dramatic and so hyperbolic that it’s hard to take it seriously when you need to compare it to other shows that are trying to have realistic depictions of their characters. Horrid Henry is obviously much more realistic in how it presents its characters but it’s still in that general area of being an overly sensationalised child’s view of the world than just a world that happens to be animated like the others.
I know cause every episode she and the dad were always telling him to go to his room and don’t be horrid and it’s like you have to teach him a lesson at some point but it’s like they’re not even trying to fix their problem it’s like they’re just encouraging him to do something bad
Eustace even admitted during a therapy session that his mom never liked him. Hell, he never got along with his brother, either. And even he was a bad brother.
Eustace was always a misunderstood character. The man lives in a ramshackle farmhouse, his life is nearly over, and Muriel was the only person who has ever liked him.
@@jupiter9099This is also why he was so hostile towards Courage, he was afraid that Muriel would love the dog more than him. He also isn’t much of the bad guy, remember the episode when he saw in the broken mirror Courage as a younger version of himself and so gave him his hat out of pity? Yeah…
To me, the absolute worst thing that Doof's parents did to him has to be Der Kinderlumper. It's one thing to create a Krampus type character to scare their kid into behaving, but what makes it especially horrid is that they ONLY use him to scare Heinz. For his beloved brother, the Kinderlumper is a jovial, loving Santa Claus type character looking out for him and giving him presents.
What about Leanne Platter, Luanne's Mom from King Of The Hill? While she and Luanne's father Hoyt were both just plain awful, Leanne was hands down the worse of the two. Not only is she a manipulative criminal like Hoyt, she's an abusive, homewrecking drunk to boot. After getting out of jail for stabbing Hoyt with a fork in a fight that knocked over their trailer home where the three Platters lived, causing Luanne to move into Hank's home in the first place, she attempts to reinsuinate herself in Luanne's life but quickly abandons her again to attach herself to Bill by spending up all his money and essentially engaging in the same manipulative behavior she did with Hoyt. And poor Luanne was too oblivious to see it at first.
If you ever do best moms, I think Lois Foutley from As Told by Ginger and Mrs. Brisby from The Secret of Nimh should be included. Also the Thornberrys, both Nigel and Marianne, should be considered top tier parents as well.
Absolutely agree, all solid examples! Mrs. Brisby especially, IMHO, because when Secret of NIMH came out (1982), it was really unusual for an animated movie to focus on a single mom. She’s a struggling, recently widowed single mom of four kids, one of whom is seriously ill, and this poor little mouse mom had to face her greatest fears and go to hell and back, all to save her family. She definitely wins my vote!
I also think Mrs. Turner has had some wild adventures. Supposedly she was a secret agent too in one of the later episodes. And she can cook even though her food looks repulsive! Anyway when the moms aren’t Lois, I’d say Jane Read from Arthur is a crappy mom too for letting DW get away with so much BS and spreading the fact she ate green potato chips around Elwood City.
@@LydiaLovesTimelinesnice! I’ve gotten back into Arthur discovering Matt Neff’s FU DW channel. If you get to doing a Jane Read video, reach out to him as a guest! 🎉 One of the artists who worked on the show for a bunch of seasons comments on his channel too sometimes. His name is Peter Huggan.
Queen Dagmar from Disenchantment is literally one of the most manipulative and evil mothers I have ever seen in media. She literally sold her daughter's soul to the devil and tried to sacrifice her so many times throughout the show. There r so many examples of her cruelty that I could give, and in my opinion she is completely irredeemable and should not have been given the chances that Bean (her daughter) or King Zog (her ex husband) should have given her. Granted they both learned pretty quickly that she was horrible but she still got away with too much.
Bloberta Puppington is worth mentioning. She never cared about her kids at all, one of them was a by-product of infidelity and a little terror. She wants people to think shes a good mother but she NEVER displines or punishes that child. Not to mention when one of her boys was switched by mistake, she only noticed after a few weeks. Both a horrible mother and wife
And that's only the tip of the iceberg with her. She was the one who forced and manipulated a guy to become her husband for selfish and desperate reasons. And in the end, her husband was the one who ended being looking as an idiot cheater while she and her ex lover left neither being found out of the affair nor with the lowered chin.
For me Bloberta is definitely up there for me she first neglects her sons Shapey and Orel who need her care and attention especially when the only other parents is Clay who beats Orel and neglects Shapey. She also manipulated Clay into marrying her. I think the most prominent episode of this neglect is turn the other cheek. In the episode Bloberta only intervenes when she needs more detergent not because he is getting bullied. She could tell him to tell a teacher, but she wants Clay to handle it when she knows what Clay is like.
Queen Dagmar in Disenchantment is probably one of the worst cartoon mums. She tricked Tiabeanie into killing her girlfriend, took Tiabeanie to live with her aunt and uncle who tried to kill her, tried to marry Tiabeanie to the LITERAL DEVIL and way more.
I realize there will be the irony of having two moms named Lois on both the worst and best mom list but Ginger's mom does deserve to be on that best list. plus it is interesting to see two characters with the same first name be completely different from each other, especially in how they raise their kids
So the mom in bojack horseman is voiced by the same person who voices Eda..? Not only is it funny hearing Eda actually swear, it's also ironic because Eda is an actually good mother figure compared to the mom in Bojack Horseman.
This video turned out AWESOME! Thank you so so so much for letting me chime in, Lydia! I appreciate it :) ALSO, I'm mind blown by Agnes Skinner and MOM having the same voice actor! I can't believe I never noticed that lol.
@@LydiaLovesTimelines Two more worst Moms & Dads you should add if you do it again is Filbrick and Caryn Pines from Gravity Falls and Brad Chiles and Judy Reeves from Scooby doo Mystery Incorporated. They are both horrible to their sons and it would be very easy to see why they are on the list
Beatrice from Bojack. While she does have a tragic backstory, she took all her anger and disappointment about her own life out on everyone around her, especially her son. And so throughout the show we see how his childhood shaped the way he turned out to be.
@@jskywalker58Yeah, ha! That's true, but that's for the plot of most episodes! And the thing that drives the comedy! Not because they're actually horrible people!
9:10 Fun fact, Archer's mom is also played by the woman who also plays one of the worst LIVE ACTION parents of all time as well. The list of negatives for Lucille and George Bluth would literally take all day.
Wow how are you all getting this argument wrong? It's butter's mom. Lois still shows she cares through our the series, even when it seems she doesn't care at all, but Butter's Mom did the one thing that makes you a bad mother forever: attempted to end her child's life. Her ONLY child's life. Casey Anthony level stuff. There is no redemption for butter's mom.
I think a good think to bring up with Beth Smith is Space Beth because of how she abandoned her kids, showed she didn’t care much for them, and only has come back and had interactions with her clone when she tries to get into a relationship with her.
You should've added Simon's Wife from Horrid Henry, not only does she abuse Henry moreso than her husband, but she absolutely hates him so much that she punishes him for the simplest of things.
haven't seen Horrid Henry but from the clips on twitter i've seen, those parents remind me of Butters' parents from South Park but like, somehow not intended to be awful edit: ok according to an interview with the author, they were intended to be awful
@@usermcskull4713even if they aren't intended, that doesn't mean they aren't! Think Mindy's Velma, she wasn't SUPPOSED to be the worst character in the show. But just one look on the Internet, and oh boy.
Henry’s parents aren’t abuseive Henry just be annoying he’s always bully’s Peter for being better but peters perfectness is also annoying cause he always tries to be better than Henry. Henry is a very whiny character he plays pranks at school all the time he doesn’t know math or history or science cause he’s to lazy to learn or do his homework I’m surprised they didn’t even try to get the belt or send him to military school
@@JasonLeahmanWhy do you think he acts that in the first place? Kids don’t just act out for no reason and I wouldn’t be surprised the reason Peter always acts so perfect is because his parents pushed such high standards for him at such a young age and I find that really sad.
@@MH-lg6jm She's an abusive mother and wife. It's shown in the show that she regularly abused Alador, ignores and treats in contempt the twins, and holds Amity to extremely high expectations that if she doesn't live up to she shuns her for it. While I agree that Alador did stand by for too long and in some ways was rather stern himself, he did shield the children in some ways, like keeping them from "taking a bigger part in the family business." If Odalia was doing things "for HER family", it wasn't for the family, it was for HER. Narcissists tend to view their families as extensions and reflections of themselves, not as real autonomous people.
@@nrlsan36_34. Odalia’s “abuse” on Alador came out of nowhere. Up until Clouds on the Horizon, nowhere was it suggested that he was also being abused by Odalia or that he was even scared of her.
Lois is the worst. From cheating on her husband, stealing his daughter's boyfriend, being a hypocrite. Im mean remember the scene. When Joe was almost falling a clip Joe: Imaging I was one of your kids Lois: (she left Joe arm) Joe: NOT MEG, NOT MEG
Nicole Watterson from 'The Amazing World Of Gumball' isn't the worst cartoon mum, but she is definitely one of them. There are a stupid amount of times where she puts her kids in danger because of how competitive she is. There is an episode where she makes Gumball do incredibly dangerous things to prove that he is a winner, such as: getting him struck by lightning, abandoning him in a desert, getting him beaten up, made him tow a car with his bare hands and nearly killed him in a game of paintball. This was to get him on the top of an achievement list of the fridge.
Nicole was screwed up terribly by her mother, and the competitiveness is her generational trauma. HOWEVER, she is fiercely defensive and protective of her family, especially her husband Richard. She basically gave up on the life her parents wanted her to have and took up a low paying, thankless job at the Rainbow Factory for him. The Wattersons are a very close knit family, and they truly love each other. Nicole even considers their once pet goldfish her son. Any attempts to get them to be the best they can be is partially out of wanting the best for her family, partially because it's the only form of parenting she knows.
@@Shrimpcheesesandwich She is a solid mother and she does care for her family, but you have to account for all the times when she has harmed her family in some way, which is a lot.
@user-eo2op5ne1h I think you forgot the whole point of that episode. The stars on the fridge have been there to remind anyone of their achievements (in Nicoles eyes) and Gumball hasn't had any. She then decided to help him to make him a "winner", so that he could be proud of himself. She clearly goes too far in the process so that Gumball tells her that he would rather be a carefree disappointment than an obsessive winner. Nicole then realises what she had become, apologizes to him and they reconcile.
Not saying Beatrice isn't a horrible Mom, but I think Lois is worse. She hit her infant with a car, and instead of taking him to the hospital, she tried to cover it up. And he's one of the kids she kind of likes. (Yes, it was Peter's fault but she didn't know that. They are both the worst.)
Another thing about Malory that I loved with her character is that despite how cold she is and how her personality is overall, she does have a heart. Whenever Archer's life is in Jeopardy she does anything to make sure he's okay, litterally bawling her eyes out over him especially when she saw his body in front of her. As an added bonus, when she found out AJ, her own grandchild, was kidnapped she was genuinely devestated about it.
@leahv5892 Although not excusing her actions but character wise; Admittedly when she shot Archer, he was trying to kill her because of the KGB brain chip making him homicidal and she was a tad hesitant on doing so. I'd put they way she was with AJ to her just never really raising a baby, and the alcoholism, yeah that's definitely on her fully. Will say though in a funny way, alcohol did let them have some heartfelt moments, especially when Archer had cancer and Malory consoling him andbgenuinely asking "Are you scared?"
I think intension matter a lot.. I really enjoy Malory, because for all her flaws and fucked up personality, I believe she loves Archer.. She just have no fuckin clue how to show it.. I also feel like she mellowed out a lot after AJ was born, which also shows me that she does care, she just doesn't know how to care for children.. I likewise think that Beatrice Horseman is a product of her time, generational trauma and just no fuckin self-awareness..
Mallory is a shit mom. I thought she'd be higher on this list but alot of comments are saying Lois is the worst and I'm trying to figure out why. Is Mallory better because she abuses her kid but tries to save him after?
I wouldn’t mind the deep dive on doctor Doof’s backstory from your perspective. Mainly because he’s someone that has a lot of redeeming qualities when you look deep through his humor and see that he’s not just a two bit villain.
While the Stotches are… terrible, terrible people, I do give them a lot of credit on this topic for actually caring about Butters. Whenever they think he’s in danger or dead, they are visibly distraught at the prospect for as much as they were abysmal, abusive, neglectful caregivers, they did believe it was in Butters’ best interest. Normally that’s not saying much, but when compared to the other names on this list, it does merit mentioning. I mean, when they thought Butters was an unholy hellspawn, they just straight up murdering strangers for the demon to “feed” on. They didn’t hesitate for a second, that their son was more deserving of surviving than random people was a prospect they didn’t question at all. It’s messed up, it’s downright psychopathic for sure, but what you can’t say is that it’s indicative of parents who don’t love their kid, when that’s a level of devotion the others on this list couldn’t even dream of coming close to.
She “killed” her own son, she’s the worst mother. (We know butters didn’t die, but within the cartoon logic, she believes she succeed). She got her son imprisoned for more than a decade. It’s not even debatable.
yes they even wanted to sell their son in one episode, and made her son feel ugly and hate himself… Now thats not even all, cause we see when we see his future self that he now lives in a mental hospital kinda place. I guess he was somekind of a serial killer i havnt watched the episode, but in another episode they belived their son had multiple personality disorder although that was not the case that time, ig he sorta got it when he became an adult. Now if thats not the worst parents i would be suprised.
On the said “hell spawn” episode they thought he was dead because he was faking his suicide and while trying to “talk him out” of it they literally said they would ground him
It has now been just over 20 years since I discovered Fairly Oddparents, and I always felt that Wanda and Cosmo were the only parent-like figures to Timmy so I couldn't agree more on your explanation there, and it's quite fitting seeing Agnes Skinner of The Simpsons and Mom of Futurama back to back as they're both voiced by Tress MacNeille and I've always found them to be the most creepy of each show, even though Agnes isn't considered evil which Mr. Burns is
Liane Cartman has to be one of the worst cartoon mothers in my opinion. She neglected him and let him do whatever he wanted, which resulted him in becoming what he is in the early episodes.
tbf I don't think many ppl would put liane as the absolute worst bc spoiling a kid isn't as bad as abusing one (even if it can yield worse results). she doesn't mean cartman harm, loves him, and is mostly just naive abt parenting. she's a rlly bad mom but is hard to compare to some of the others
I feel like the mom from Horrid Henry should be brought up too. She favors Peter over Henry and she constantly neglects Henry, the only time she gives him attention is yelling at him. Even if Henry does a small thing the mom starts to snap
Probably main problem will be inconsistent of his flashbacks. Like in the one he grown up in an average human family, in other he was raised by animals and so on. Many contradictions actually.
About Beth, there was that one episode in Rick and Morty where she took her dad’s growing machine in order to comfort Summer over her break up with that scumbag Ethan by turning herself into a giant, which was Summer did when she accidentally turned herself into a giant when she tried to grow her boobs. When Summer was driving to that camping site, Beth said this line, “Summer, Mama is coming. And she cares about your titties.”
I think that was a pivotal episode for Beth. It was then she went from a woman who quietly wished she never had kids to a realizing she does love them.
Speaking of cosmo and Wanda as Timmy's parents made me cry cause in my mind they were his parents they did a better job at teaching him and keeping him out of trouble than his actual parents did
yup your right about that in the episode throw it away when Chris yelled at Lois you've made me 1930s work whistle angry i swear lois looked like she was gonna punch her own son
What makes sugarman worse is how she effects bojack half sister in such a short amount of time to the point it sends her to the hospital, will say her origin is one of bojacks darkest episodes and something I was left to think on for days and explained several elements, not an excuse but liked it filled in some gaps
Kinda surprised Mona Simpson wasn't in this line-up. Her repeated abandonments left Homer with deep rooted psychological trauma that promoted his over-eating as a coping mechanism. Oh and Luann Van Houtan is a bad mom, too. She's constantly lying to Milhouse, emotionally manipulates him on the regular, and uses Milhouse as a pawn against her husband Kirk at most any oppertunity. There have been numerous scenes as well where Luann drops the most embarrassing info within earshot of the other kids, which I'm not convinced is accidental since it tends to make Milhouse cling to her. Maude Flanders low-key sucked in the mom department, too, but maybe that's just me? We never saw her in action much as a mom, but in at least three flashback episodes Maude was shown using Rod and Todd as props to boast about how much better of a mom she was compared to Marge. But then it seemed like whenever something came up (sickness, discipline, etc) Maude wasn't shown or mentioned to be involved in her sons' care as if Maude pushed the more unpleasant aspects of parenting off on Ned.
Odalia’s abuse towards her family and others around her is one thing, but it’s the fact that she knew about Belos’ evil intentions is what makes her evil. She didn’t know about Belos’ evil plan, but she knew he had something bad in mind for the people of the Boiling Isles. All she cared about was the fact that Belos’ regime was buying her husband’s weapons, and she just wanted the money to keep rolling in so her family could stay rich and powerful.
I see it as she had to work for Belos out of fear what he'd do to her or due to the lies Belos fed her about how she and her family would be spared along with a select few the titan deemed worthy, had she known she or her family was next on the chopping block she'd use those weapons on him and the golden guards in a heartbeat. I just wish that her story was explored more in the show, perhaps she was like Beatrice horseman in a way in that she was abused too as a child and it carried over to her, I'd also love to see her work to redeem herself and become a better person but that's just my thoughts. but yeah Lois is a HORRIBLE mother in my opinion, like Peter she's a psycho who knows fully well what she's doing hurts her kids and just doesn't care. Hell she even told meg to commit Suicide and was even going to kill one of her kids for something peter did not to mention cheating on him with one of Meg's boyfriends. Odalia may have done some bad stuff but at least she didn't tell one of her kids to kill themselves or cheat on Alador, out of a lot of the worst moms here I think Odalia could have a chance at being reformed if and when an owl house spinoff comes out
13:18 Dang, it's so weird to hear Wendie Malick, the voice of Chicha and Eda, voicing one of the worst mothers in animation history. It's the equivalent of Minnie Mouse's former VA, the late Russi Taylor, voicing the cat in _Babe._
I mean, she always gets overshadowed by Clay in terms of abuse and neglect. And she did become a tiny little bit better in Season 3, through two instances. The first was when she genuinely felt sad for the abusive home Oral had been born into and began uncontrollably sobbing over the gunshot wound his own father gave him when she was out of earshot of Oral, and the second was implied through her (first?) actual conversation with Shapey, that she was going to try to start treating him better alongside his new brother from another WASP mom, Doughey. I can’t be alone in thinking that the series writers seemed to have set up hope that Shapey & Doughy’s relationship with Bloberta was going to get better by the series end, am I?
Its definitely Butters mom; the attempted murder, trying to traffic her son to Paris Hilton, constantly grounding him for the mildest of actions, the conversion camp, naming her son Leopold. All that while Butters is the sweetest boy in animation.
My favourite worst mother is Malory Archer. As a fan of the show Archer, I’ve seen how terrible she can be and not to mention funny sometimes. That’s what makes her my favourite worst mother. Rest in peace, Jessica.
For me Doofersmith is one of rare characters who put in life "i will make my child life better than mine" and it work. the best is when his nemesis is helping his daughter and it is shown that he could be "all evil and bad" but for her he will do all he can to make her life good. He is one of most underrated dad in cartoon history and its kinda sad, but at least he had semi good ending. Tho i would love to see videos like best dads or best moms
Linda is worst in South Park, because she grounds her son for no reason. That is actually child abuse. She and Steven are abusing butters, that’s why they should have taken butters out of his current home. Linda would have been arrested on child abuse.
Well Steven would be but I’m pretty sure Linda would be institutionalized. Just look at every line she’s ever had, she’s clearly not sound of mind. She’s definitely certifiably insane. She could also get off on being stupid because she’s clearly not playing with a full deck. So yeah, crazy and dumb Linda Stotch would be hauled off by the men in white coats but Steven Stotch would just go to regular prison and probably be reaching for the soap for the next 10 to 25 years.
One mom I’m surprised that no one has mentioned is betty smith. We all know that stan’s life was horrific. He’s been subjected to every form of abuse you can think of physical, emotional, psychological, financial, sexual. however because there is so much focus on jack that it’s hard to remember that betty is just as responsible for stan’s issues. She manipulated Stan into doing all his father's duties and being completely dependent on her emotionally. She also tricked Stan into killing his dog, saying he had an incurable illness, but it she actually made him do it because their new apartment building didn't allow dogs. What makes this worse is that despite how self-serving and manipulative unlike with jack the show sticks with the whole stan is always wrong narrative going to far as to have her call him out for clinging to her now that she no longer needs him. Francine is this as well but with her its more complicated like with betty she has an unhealthy obsession with steve and competativness with hayley. A big part of it goes back to the stan always being wrong. whenever he tries to take 5 minutes to relax the family devolve into suicidal levels of stupidity and they only do this when its stan. Francine can do her on thing and they would be fine. heck I think the first time they did it was an example of this. Stan can’t read a book but she can go on an expedition to locate a squid. This means that for all the familys complaints they can’t function without stan but can without Francine. Luckily this plot has fallen off a lot more in the later seasons.
So keep in Helga parents have both shown her care and love when the hammer meets the nail. In the Thanksgiving episode both parents are freaking out once they realize she is not there and act as one should. In the episode that Miriam takes over for Big Bob, she ends up quitting due to her realization of her miss treatment of Helga. She drops everything she worked so hard for, just to return to her role as Helgas mom. Is Miriam perfect? No she makes mistakes and needs to work out her relationship issues with Big Bob, that cause her to drink in the first place. But at the end of the day Miriam cares alot about Helga.
A mother who should be in the video in Phineas and Ferb, is their own mother because in addition to gossiping her daughter from her friends when she finds out that boys do things like that, she moves them to a camp that kills children's creativity.
On the other hand, Camilla, Luz’s mom, is probably among the best! Is she perfect? No. But she’s trying her damndest, especially after the passing of her husband and Luz’s father.
Mallory Archer is redeemed by her genuine love for Sterling, even if it rarely shows in a normal way, it's there even in the messed up things she does. Jessica Walter, H Jon Benjamin, and Chris Parnell lifted that show to unachievable heights without through their acting. With her gone as the strong link of that trinity, it's just not the same.
I have only two I can think off the top of my head, here they are: Medusa Gorgon: she abused crona and saw them as an experiment. Proceeded to use her child as a pawn in getting what she wanted, even going as far as forcing crona to kill a rabbit that they got attached to. Raygo kiryiun: another mother who is obsessed with experimenting, using her own newborn children as test subjects! When both her children fail at fusing with the life fibers, she dumps them, and as for the remaining child, satsuki….well…if you’ve seen kill la kill you know what I’m referring too..🤢
What an awesome entertaining and informative video about cartoon moms. I'm glad you didn't actually include Charlotte Pickles here. While She has her faults, those pale in comparison to like Mallory Archer or MOM from Futurama.
Malory was a terrible mother to sterling but she does truly love him. Like anytime sterlig disappeared shes always the one striving to look for him and refusing to accept that hes dead even if it wastes company resources or even when he went into a coma she refused to leave his side
And Sterling loves her enough to cry asking for a grilled cheese because he was worried she had cancer. They really do love each other underneath it all
I believe Beatrice Horseman deserves the title because a lot of the other shows play into these messed up dynamics for fun (Family Guy, Archer etc.) whereas Bojacks tends to be way more serious
i was so confused going through the chapters and seeing the owl house, i thought you were talking about Camilla or Eda, when i saw Odalia i was so relieved
I think Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond from Steven Universe deserves a mention. She was pretty terrible, but she didn't really get a chance to be a bad mother to Steven since she kinda had to die to give birth to him. Though, with her track record and how out of touch the other Gems were with raising Steven, I don't think she would be particularly good.
Knew it would be Beatrice immediately - some of the things she says to BoJack left me speechless from the sheer depths of cruelty and narcissism it showed in her. Brilliantly written character, but deserved that lonely fate at the end.
Honestly, when it comes to Dr. Doofenshmirtz, he is a good representation of how you can be a better parent than those who raised you. In fact, I think Heinz is trying so hard to be a good father because he doesn't want to cause the same harm to her that he was caused in his childhood
I’m so glad that you mentioned Shelia Broflovski even if it wasn’t as long as I had hoped it be. And tbh I still see her as worst than Butters’ mom cause she actually does care about her son while Shelia doesn’t show any for both of her sons. Plus there’s the fact that Shelia undermines Kyle at every point possible and constantly has him under her thumb as he never really talks back to her and agrees as well as goes along with practically everything she says. She won’t even listen to him when he pointed out why she shouldn’t kill Terrence and Philip and when he explained with very good reasons why he didn’t want to play superheroes with his cousin. And that’s another thing. She shows actual and more care to her nephew than her own kids which is so messed up and when I realized that (while playing TFBW) I full on hated her and still hate her to this day. She doesn’t deserve her kids and definitely doesn’t deserve the defense Kyle gives towards her very awful behavior. I get that Kyle doesn’t want to be negative about her cause she’s his mom and he does genuinely care about her as a result but when said mom is as horrible and unloving as Shelia is, she should never get a pass for it. Especially since she’s not putting in any effort to change. It says something when Cartman of all people is more willing to change his crappy behavior (for the most part) than Shelia is. I greatly hope for the day Trey and Matt give us an episode that has Kyle finally have enough of his mom’s shittiness and gives her the verbal beating she rightfully deserves.
I feel like Bloberta should also be in here. She abandoned oral and not only did she do that she didn’t even realize her second child was replaced. In my opinion she’s one of the most negligent moms in animated history.
I know you haven’t seen Moral Orel, but in my opinion, the WORST animated (sorta) Mom is Bloberta Puppington. The worst example of her is that she along with her husband Clay ignore Orel when he was telling them that Shapey was pointing the BB Gun right at his eye and she and Clay don’t give a shit about him and they’re not even concerned about Shapey trying to do dangerous stuff along with Block Posabule
One of the funniest yet cruel lines about Agnes Skinner telling Principal Skinner was her saying while in the parking lot "You start a car the way you start a family"
I got some examples that match up or even worse than the ones usually listed: Fred's Mom from Velma Kathleen Tobin from The Great North Gloria, Linda's Mom from Bob's Burgers Shadow Weaver from She-Ra (she counts since she raised the Horde soldiers that'd been there since they were kids) Matthew's Mom from Big Mouth Lola's Mom from Big Mouth Queen Dagmar from Disenchantment What's the deal with Adult cartoons having the worst moms? 😂
Kathleen was intended to be a terrible mother though, like it was established from the get-go that she was an awful mother and wife. It’s not something you see happen like with the other characters in this video, so I think it’s kind of a different situation. Plus, she has basically next to no presence in the show iirc, so… Not much to say about her really
@@biscuitstix_ So were Mallory, Beatrice, Odalia, Mom, alot of worst parents were the worst from the get go on television. There's a lot to say about how her presence and absence negatively affected each member of the Tobin family, especially Beef. I know she’s not a biological mother but I would’ve put Shadow Weaver from She Ra and The Princesses Of Power. She picked Adora as her favorite and she was abusive to Catra to the point where Catra started to fear her
As a major Total Drama fan, while the bad parents are minor characters, some do have horrible parents. Heather’s parents are awful, Lightning’s dad make my blood boil(and also explains so much of his son’s behavior like why he’s so dumb or got so angry at Cameron for taking his win), Priya’s parents essentially used her as a doll for their love of Total Drama instead of an actual child, Caleb’s parents aren’t much better If there is evil a worst sibling list though, Amy and Sammy is up there no question. Same with Ed and Sarah
Beatrice is the one mother on this list that actually made me angry to see how she treated her child, which is why the deep dive into her childhood was so humanising and made you feel so bad, and why Bojack is such a great show
These mothers are pretty lousy. But Stella from Helluva Boss is too busy being a classist womanchild and hating Stolas and Blitzø that she doesn't realize how her attitude affect Octavia. If you ask me, I blame Stella for being a lackluster wife and mother for Stolas cheating on her.
She's a bad mother but compared to most of the people on this list, I wouldn't consider her that bad due to the fact that she hasn't put Octavia is harm's way
Personally i think MOM from futurama is the worst because she genuinely knows she is hurting them unlike timmy turners parents and lois griffin at least apologises whereas MOM never once apologises making her kids do most of her work like slaves

That's kind of psychotic
@@Jade_West2010seth macfarline is a bit mad it shows in his writing.
Original Voice actor for Meg was in only 2 episodes 1 and 2 possibly unaired pilot but yeah.
I am missing Mother Gothel from Tanged (The Series) on this list.
Keeping her 4 year old daughter looked up
- using her as a slave/housekeeper
- seeing her as a "little pest"
- emotionally abusing her (mostly neglect)
- not even giving her an actual bed to sleep on, but a footstool
and lastly: abandoning her and essentially leaving her to die (if no one would have found her), because she (Gothel) kidnapped another child, which she treated just as badly for 18 more years

The mom in Horrid Henry is definitely one of the worst cartoon moms, she favours Henry’s brother and blames Henry for everything. She clapped at the thought of Henry disappearing, but her worst moment was when she locked Henry in his room for hours with nothing in it.
Yes cause heaven forbid Henry be himself /be a child woman
In that Hey Arnold episode, Miriam literally went from a alcoholic neglecful mom to a workaholic neglectful mom.
Eustace’s mom from Courage the Cowardly Dog should be on this list for how abusive she is.
She’s the reason why Eustace became such a bitter and selfish old man 😢
Eustace even admitted during a therapy session that his mom never liked him. Hell, he never got along with his brother, either. And even he was a bad brother.
Eustace was always a misunderstood character.
The man lives in a ramshackle farmhouse, his life is nearly over, and Muriel was the only person who has ever liked him.
@@jupiter9099 Since Muriel seems to be the only person to show genuine care for him, it's no wonder he's jealous of Courage.

Don't forget that episode where Lois rapes her husband. Never forgot that.

I think you forgot the whole point of that episode.

She shot her son Archer, made him an alcoholic and refused to feed her grand daughter because she was getting fat.
The thing about her is even when she shows concern about Archer it’s more about her then him a perfect example is her reaction after he got cancer
Burns is
I know right
Liane Cartman has to be one of the worst cartoon mothers in my opinion. She neglected him and let him do whatever he wanted, which resulted him in becoming what he is in the early episodes.
Still not as bad as lois, atleast liane only has one child.
At least she evolved and became a more complex character, she is on the road to becoming a better person
@@maybe8985 that’s true
@@maybe8985 she did scold Cartman in one episode at Best Buy
tbf I don't think many ppl would put liane as the absolute worst bc spoiling a kid isn't as bad as abusing one (even if it can yield worse results). she doesn't mean cartman harm, loves him, and is mostly just naive abt parenting. she's a rlly bad mom but is hard to compare to some of the others
I feel like the mom from Horrid Henry should be brought up too. She favors Peter over Henry and she constantly neglects Henry, the only time she gives him attention is yelling at him. Even if Henry does a small thing the mom starts to snap
I would love to see a Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz timeline! It would be a great video. Such and amazing video up the great work!
Thanks Dylan! And thanks again for supporting the channel on Patreon :)
Probably main problem will be inconsistent of his flashbacks. Like in the one he grown up in an average human family, in other he was raised by animals and so on. Many contradictions actually.
@@jay_adamson1987That didn’t stop the Simpsons and Family Guy future videos
@@caribou3552 fair point actually. Guess that the case for nearly every comedy show.
Yes I need to see that to
It’s kinda ironic how Beatrice Sugarman (one of animation’s worst moms) has the same voice actor as Eda Clawthorne (one of animation’s best moms)
This episode came to mind when she came up in the video.
I think that was a pivotal episode for Beth. It was then she went from a woman who quietly wished she never had kids to a realizing she does love them.
Speaking of cosmo and Wanda as Timmy's parents made me cry cause in my mind they were his parents they did a better job at teaching him and keeping him out of trouble than his actual parents did
The worst cartoon mother is Lois Griffin.
Her and Butter’s mom on South Park
yup your right about that in the episode throw it away when Chris yelled at Lois you've made me 1930s work whistle angry i swear lois looked like she was gonna punch her own son
Remember that episode were she got fit and grabbed him by the neck@@ezcars1497
I will have to say the worst mom in cartoon history is Bojack MOTHER.
You forgot she was a nice mother in the first place but the writers ruined her and y’all forgot that
It's funny that Beatrice was voiced by Wendie Malick, who voices Eda Clawthorne; I'd prefer the Owl Lady as a mom more than the Horse Lady
Amen to that👏🏻💯
What makes sugarman worse is how she effects bojack half sister in such a short amount of time to the point it sends her to the hospital, will say her origin is one of bojacks darkest episodes and something I was left to think on for days and explained several elements, not an excuse but liked it filled in some gaps
A best parents video HAS to include Bob and Linda Belcher from Bob's Burgers. It's non-negotiable.
YES, PLEASE!!!
Though Linda can be very childish at times but I think that's what we love about her really plus she is a very supportive mother and wife
Same here
And hank hill, its amazing how well he turned out with such shit parents.
The thornberries and most of the parents from rugrats except Angelica's parents lol
Odalia may have done some bad stuff but at least she didn't tell one of her kids to kill themselves or cheat on Alador, out of a lot of the worst moms here I think Odalia could have a chance at being reformed if and when an owl house spinoff comes out
For those who don't know/kinda familiar with the owl house, Odalia is voiced by Rachel MacFarlane who voices Hayley from American Dad.
And Seth's sister
Awesome fact
And Eda is voiced by Beatrice Horseman and Pacha's wife from Emperor's New Groove
@@anormalguy9320 that was my first thought, as someone who's never seen Bojack horseman.
@@anormalguy9320 and Burdine Maxwell from the Bratz cartoon series
13:18 Dang, it's so weird to hear Wendie Malick, the voice of Chicha and Eda, voicing one of the worst mothers in animation history. It's the equivalent of Minnie Mouse's former VA, the late Russi Taylor, voicing the cat in _Babe._
I'm surprised blobberta puppington wasn't on the list I'd think she's one of the absolute worst animated mother's
@@Popcultureguy3000 block is the step brother doughy is orals best friend
@@rosethepinkhairedsaiyan769 That’s right! I got their names confused because Doughy seems like a much better name for a Shapey lookalike. My bad.
Yeah I came to the comments to see if anyone mentioned Bloberta
I was looking for someone to mention Bloberta. She literally didn't even notice/didn't care when her son was swapped.
Jessica?

Surely Jeff Fisher’s mum has to take the cake for managing to find a way to run out on her kid before he was born. 😂
"How...how could she do that?"
Yeah that's not figurativly possible
Joe: Imagine I'm one of your kids
Lois: (left his arm)
Joe: NOT MEG, NOT MEG

Was really nice to see a collaboration on this, and it's introduced me to 2 more great RUclips channels. Thank you. ❤
A mother who should be in the video in Phineas and Ferb, is their own mother because in addition to gossiping her daughter from her friends when she finds out that boys do things like that, she moves them to a camp that kills children's creativity.
That was only a nightmare Perry the Platypus was having
Linda? Why
I'd love to see a timeline of Hanz Doofensmirchz being the *GOAT* of cartoon dads
Thank you for putting Odalia in. And you should definitely check out Owl House. You will not be disappointed.

I have only two I can think off the top of my head, here they are:
Medusa Gorgon: she abused crona and saw them as an experiment. Proceeded to use her child as a pawn in getting what she wanted, even going as far as forcing crona to kill a rabbit that they got attached to.
Raygo kiryiun: another mother who is obsessed with experimenting, using her own newborn children as test subjects! When both her children fail at fusing with the life fibers, she dumps them, and as for the remaining child, satsuki….well…if you’ve seen kill la kill you know what I’m referring too..🤢
Yeah... doing... *adult things* to your own daughter for seemingly no reason other than self satisfaction is pretty dam gross
That scene with Meg jumping out of the car because of Peter’s bad breath is so funny even without the sound. 😭
i was so confused going through the chapters and seeing the owl house, i thought you were talking about Camilla or Eda, when i saw Odalia i was so relieved
It should be noted that Doofenschmirtz didn't CHOOSE to leave his family to live with ocelots, he was very briefly DISOWNED by his parents
I know right
I feel like Bloberta should also be in here. She abandoned oral and not only did she do that she didn’t even realize her second child was replaced. In my opinion she’s one of the most negligent moms in animated history.
Great video as always! Your fans like to see whats in store on your channel!
Kind of terrifying Beatrice’s Voice Actor also voices Eva Clawthorne, arguably one of the BEST cartoon Mom’s.

Muscle Man: You know who is the best mom? *MY MOM!!*
One of the funniest yet cruel lines about Agnes Skinner telling Principal Skinner was her saying while in the parking lot
"You start a car the way you start a family"
I got some examples that match up or even worse than the ones usually listed:
Fred's Mom from Velma
Kathleen Tobin from The Great North
Gloria, Linda's Mom from Bob's Burgers
Shadow Weaver from She-Ra (she counts since she raised the Horde soldiers that'd been there since they were kids)
Matthew's Mom from Big Mouth
Lola's Mom from Big Mouth
Queen Dagmar from Disenchantment
What's the deal with Adult cartoons having the worst moms?
I have to agree that Odalia is not a great mom and did not change at all but at least Alador (her husband) change so Amity has one good parent
I know she’s not a biological mother but I would’ve put Shadow Weaver from She Ra and The Princesses Of Power. She picked Adora as her favorite and she was abusive to Catra to the point where Catra started to fear her
I would absolutely love a Doofenschmirtz timeline!
As a major Total Drama fan, while the bad parents are minor characters, some do have horrible parents. Heather’s parents are awful, Lightning’s dad make my blood boil(and also explains so much of his son’s behavior like why he’s so dumb or got so angry at Cameron for taking his win), Priya’s parents essentially used her as a doll for their love of Total Drama instead of an actual child, Caleb’s parents aren’t much better
If there is evil a worst sibling list though, Amy and Sammy is up there no question. Same with Ed and Sarah
Beatrice is the one mother on this list that actually made me angry to see how she treated her child, which is why the deep dive into her childhood was so humanising and made you feel so bad, and why Bojack is such a great show
Dishonourable mention Rose Quartz while she died at childbirth, she did ruin a lot of lives and leave a huge mess. Steven had to pick up the pieces
Man, it says alot that I think Mallory Archer might be the best mother on this list.
That's fucking terrifying.
I would have put Quene Dagmare here too.
people are forgetting about Leanne Cartman, who raised an absolute monster that she trapped herself with
rose quartz literally made her son inherit her intergalactic war crimes
Rudi Wilson from
Mother Up! Her daughter literally is so neglected she started to view a vending machine as a mom.
She's a bad mother but compared to most of the people on this list, I wouldn't consider her that bad due to the fact that she hasn't put Octavia is harm's way
Ugh
But not Dexter parents
Personally i think MOM from futurama is the worst because she genuinely knows she is hurting them unlike timmy turners parents and lois griffin at least apologises whereas MOM never once apologises making her kids do most of her work like slaves
