The password "Dashwood" is a reference to the protagonist of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" and it serves as a parallel between the novel's conflict between sense (logic, propriety, and thoughtfulness) and sensibility (emotion, passion, unthinking action) and Harold's internal conflict between letting the ASI's "live" (sense) or letting Humanity fend for itself (sensibility), opting for the latter in the end. Also, the book is the one that he used to propose to Grace back in the day, which makes it even more meaningful.
What interesting is the machine always knew the password but never used out of respect for Harold. If you remember what John Greer said you need to enter the password every time the machine needs to do something.
Thank you.
Thank You! 👍👍
@@cainabel2009 Root said it, the machine was a reflection of Harold!!
Notice how finch started to refer to the machine as HER.
no longer as IT
Root assigned the machine a gender. CANCEL ROOT. She assumed the Machines gender. Reeeeeeeehhhhhhh and with the new laws coming in where even questioning or trying to coerce someones gender is now a hate crime, Root is transphobic.
One of my favorite shows of all time. Entire cast was superb.😊
This is such a beautiful scene.
“Dashwood” is related to the book that harold gave to her fiancée
Can you tell me name of that book? I can't find it name

POI - Best Of policr station scene when captain finds out he’s the man in the suit
Only after the rewatch did I realized the sense and sensibility. DASHWOOD
Thank you for uploading!
Any franchise with Sara was going to be good. Shame POI and Life weren't longer.
"You cannot stop the inevitable." Unfortunately Samaritan was probably correct. There will be many more general purpose AIs in the future. All competing against each other. You know what they say about survival of the fittest...
Delaying the inevitable, on the other hand, is much more feasible.
They're already are, they're called adversarial neural networks. And they're nowhere near as powerful as this show would have you believe
The potential threat of AI isn't that they'd be overtly dangerous, it's that they'd surpass human intelligence and by definition be impossible to predict or control because they'd always be 10 steps ahead.
At that point, the worst they could be is indifferent to us, but I doubt they'd see us as a threat: that point in sci-fi always struck me as arrogance on humanity's part because at that point any sufficiently intelligent machine would realize that humanity's dependence on advanced tech would mean it had us by the balls... unless we wanted to kiss that tech goodbye, start from the Iron Age over again, and consign most of the human race to die of famine.
No, at that point it'd simply maintain us as a side project as it carries out whatever activities it wants to engage in for it's own personal interests. The nightmare scenario isn't Terminator, the nightmare scenario is the apathetic paradise sloth of pre-Jihad Dune.
@@LabTech41 computers in general have been surpassing human habilities since their creation. AI agents can be dangerous because we are given them the ways to interact/interfere with the real world, and is really hard to specify objectives to an AI agent without letting open opportunities for it to "cheat" in unexpected ways.
@@PicaPauDiablo1 it depends on if the machine serve you or you serve the machine

it's the same words used by Thanos in Avengers... Inevitable...
Also the T-850 used the same word in Terminator: Rise of the Machines.
"and I am iron Man"
8 letters… should’ve been PASSWORD… 🤪🤪🤪
I'd have gone with 1234.
Brb, gotta go change the combination on my holiday luggage
Do they ever explain Dashwood? Was that Harold's real name?
Michael McCormick The password required to activate the ICE-9 virus was Dashwood, the surname of some of the lead characters in Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility". This was the novel Finch give to Grace when he proposed to her, in which he hid the engagement ring. There is also a shot of Shaw holding the same book in this episode, after she finds it sitting on Root's bed in the subway.

And now the whole world has to get shots and wear masks. Thanks, Harold.
Ice 9?
Really?
Imagine when he uploded the virus the mashine sead screw you
So, I know nothing of this show except this and a few other clips suggested by RUclips. I will not watch this show because .exe is a Windows executable extension and anyone with half a brain cell knows all the real important stuff run on Linux
Nope. All the important stuff runs on old systems that greatly predate both. Wanna be rich? Learn COBOL. And FORTRAN. And VB6
Sadly, I'm not kidding
Well for one thing the file separators do indicate that it is linux and .exe was probably used because more people would understand it. It doesn‘t take anything away from the show in my opinion.
So edgy. Much knowledge. Wow
You are bothered because a fake writers’s room generated AI in a not real life or documentary TV show didn’t use your preferred OS?
I hate root and I hate how I have to hear her insufferable voice and character through the machine. Way to ruin a great show to a cheesy mainstream one.
I think for the same reasons she made a great villain
Ah hah... I have seen several POI clips and lately they all have 1 and 1 only thumbs down... I think the asshat has been found...
@@doomo Sorry for not liking your favorite characters buddy. You clearly can't handle it very well. I haven't been liking/disliking any videos.
@@Cyrus_II damn getting triggered by a female character, you have problems.
For me she and her voice was best part of later seasons
@@akashkece like Frank, i dont like her. Its not just the character but the actress as a whole. In everything she is in, from Angel to this, she just has two faces. Either "i want to fuck you" or "oww im hurt." And her voice is one tone, dry and high monotone. I stopped when she was introduced and got curious to see how bad the show got. From what i've seen on youtube, it got shit.
