    The only way in my opinion to beat a pusher..tried tons of things(patience, power, etc) to make them play the correct way...you only need to get 6 out of 10 in of those swinging volleys...that will make the pusher change his tactics and then start making mistakes...great job showing the drills man...i have started doing this and i have already seen a lot of wins against those pusher types(slicers, lobbers, high balls). This is an excellent strategy that works for that high ball problem too...instead of backing up go forward and take it out of the air and always go for the middle to reduce errors. i started this during one match after getting frustrated ...i serve big, but the opponent was good at getting them back and high and you would be chasing a deep return and high ball...which totally destroys your confidence in serve and all...so i tried serve and smash or swing volley if i could not get an ace...if the deep balls are coming too high near the baseline and pushing you back, you need to step in and take it out of the air...remember don't go for the winner in swinging volley, its the next weak ball that comes back you hit for a winner...

    I started playing in the late '50s almost exclusively on clay for most of my life. Now, in my 70s, I'm getting destroyed playing on the hard courts of Calif by junk-ballers.The Modern Tennis Method that I learned from Oscar Wegner many years ago has given me the ability to compete at a high level against hard-hitting baseliners--typical of the power player of today. But against pushers, I lack the confidence to take the ball out of the air, necessary to force the pushers off their game. I'm going down to the courts tomorrow with a basket of balls to practice these drills. I'm always striving to improve my game, so thank you for giving these tips, advice, and lessons. After learning the two-hand back hand fairly recently and switching to the chop volley, I'm looking forward to attacking like I consistently did in the days when serve and volley players ruled.

    The other option (as long as you play on a court with decent space behind the baseline) is slice overheads. I used to play a notorious moonballer at my club. After I hit 2 unreturned slice overheads that basically ricocheted off his racquet...he stopped moonballing. A flat overhead is too risky, but if you have a decently consistent topspin or slice serve, there's zero reason you shouldn't be able to crush that junk with nasty slice. Just aim towards the dead center of the court.

    Honestly, this isnt very good advice. Realistically, in a tight match, how often are you going to be confident enough to step in the court and take the ball out of the air? And to do this multiple times in a row without messing up? On top of all that, youre asking a person who struggles against pushers to do this? Which are usually people who dont do as well under pressure situations? I used to teach my student this until i realized its not realistic.

    • @jasonratledge98
      @jasonratledge98 5 лет назад +2

      You have to work on your weaknesses. That like saying "Realistically, in a tight how often are you going to be confident enough to go for a strong first serve? And to do this multiple times in a row without messing up? On top of all that, you're asking a person who struggles with second serves to do this? Which are usually people who don't do as well under pressure situations?" You have to work on it.

    • @AT-qi2xk
      @AT-qi2xk 5 лет назад

      @@jasonratledge98 Second serve is necessary for the game and its the same shot everytime. The only variation would be if it was windy, which is usually only a slight variation. In a real match, assuming its a somewhat competitive match, hi balls are going to be everywhere. Short, deep, wide. How are you going to take a ball out the air unless its a high ball with absolutely no pace/spin, coming perfectly right at you? Sure this might be once or twice during a match, but is 2 points really going to win you the match? You dont even see pros swing volleys out of the air except on occasion. On those hi floaters landing towards the baseline (pusher ball), they typically let the ball bounce and hit an aggressive forehand or hit an overhead.....yet, you want a hobby player to do that?
      If a tight player misses put away forehands that they have made 100000 times during practice, do you really expect them to do better when they try to hit a shot that 1) does not occur as frequently as a forehand 2) a shot that is more difficult 3) a shot that they have practiced less than a forehand?
