Great drills, and great instruction! Has worked wonders for my tennis footwork. 03:01 Split step, load, move 03:51 With ball 05:06 With cones 06:12 with ball and cones 07:43 live ball
A charming guy ; ticks all the boxes for an instructor too i.e very clear instructions , plenty of repetition , sense of humour , confident , knows his stuff .
From one instructor to another: great video! Not sure why you got 10 thumbs down. They are either haters or they don't know how to play. You did everything correct. Keep up the awesome videos!
Helpful tips on the footwork. I finally know why I was not turning side ways. It was because I did not turn the foot side ways on the first step. Thank you for the point.
Very helpful. Cleared up my footwork patterns. Instead of thinking about loading my dominant legs, it was easier for me to focus on pushing off from my non-dominant leg, which is what happens first.
Sergey, love the progression on the drills! I will teach my 12 year old son these drills. I have two basic questions. First question is, should the split step be used in other situations besides volleys? Second question is, when do I time my split-step; when I approach net and wait for forehand or backhand volley or split-step after the ball leaves my opponent's racket?
I think I can help you out....you want to split step for every shot. It is the fastest way to get to any shot. And really if you want to get technical with it, for a forehand(righty) you want to land on the left leg first to push out to the right and vice versa with the backhand. Many call it a "flow step". As for the timing of the split it should be right before your opponent makes contact...you are aiming to hit the ground at the exact time you know where the ball is going.
Actually you need to split step right after the ball leaves the opponents racquet. Watch slow motion videos with the top pros on RUclips. You'll see the exact moment they do the split step. It's not before the hit.

@@watcher687 Yeah. I didn't notice hard breathing. Don't listen to that comment--guy just wants company in lack of fitness. I am going to be 60 in September, but I am am fast on the court as most of the young players I play with.
Doesn’t seemed like you hop into your split step during the ball feed from the person. Sometimes lessons sound good in theory, but all goes to waste during a live situation.
NOBODY leaps forward like that much when doing a split step... You might move a tiny bit but it's virtually vertical. Incorrect way to practice. But when you volley a live ball, you are doing it correctly.
Can you explain 'why'? What are the pros and cons of taking those exaggerated steps?I disagree with 'stepping through the ball'.So does Mr. Federer and the Bryan Bros.ruclips.net/video/K-MRV14rG3YI/видео.html prefer balance, lean in, and deflect. The feet will go where they need to go.On occasion, the player does need to move forward to make contact at best height. Most times, with the reduced reaction time (in the forecourt) there isn't enough time for all that useless movement.Practiced with a lady yesterday who was so focused on taking these big steps forward, yet her volleys actually got worse. Sad to watch.
