When it comes to hitting solid volleys in tennis, there are a few fundamentals that you must master.
Tennis Volley Swings - The swing on your tennis volleys will either help or hinder your net game. One of the most common problems tennis players face when they're at the net is being able to time the volleys correctly.
Since we have roughly half the time at the net, when compared to the baseline, many players struggle with timing on their forehand and backhand volleys.
In order to fix this issue, it's vital that we shorten the swings on our volleys.
Imagine catching a ball, keep that same motion when you hit your volleys.
Reach forward with the racket, meeting the ball out in front of your body.
Tennis Volley Footwork - One of the fundamentals of being a solid net player is being able to cover the net efficiently and effectively. Using the correct footwork patterns is key.
When the ball is close to you, one lunge step is sufficient.
When the ball is slightly wider, two steps will be needed.
Where To Aim Your Volleys - When dealing with medium to low height volleys, and when you cannot hit them away for a winner, aim your volleys down the line and use it as a second approach shot. When you have a higher ball, you can start to use the width of the court and put the volleys away using crosscourt shots.

would love to see more lessons with active drills included. It's nice to see it inaction and understand what you're trying to do on court. But don't know how to go about practicing it. Also home exercises or drills for those who can't spend as many hours or days on court.

Here is a recommendation for the future videos:
    1. Record and present tutorials on some play strategies that players level 3.5-4.5 could use in tournaments. This is something that very few focus on, and it s fundamental to happy tennis life.
    2. Record and comment your own tournament plays
    3. Publish series of videos on how can players advance their levels of play (for example, most players never advance past NRTP 3.5, so it would be good to have a video or series of videos focused on guiding what it takes to advance a level)

Always great content Simon. I’ve had a question I’ve wanted to ask you for years now. I’ve notice (even in this video) that your grip size seems to be very large on your main racket and smaller on other rackets you use. You mentioned that you’ve recovered from an injury and was wondering if you’ve ever had golfers elbow (not tennis) and if grip size has played a role.
Sorry for cluttering up your comment section with this question!

This channel has plenty of honest work, but after 5 minutes of the video, you are describing something that you are not doing in the examples. Not catching like a net, but opening raquet and pushing in a very short swing. I think those are a proper and clean technique, and also the tip is useful to stop backswinging. I don't want to sound rude at all. Thanks for the lesson.

    • @YouriTegelaers
      @YouriTegelaers 2 года назад

@HasteCakes Have a good look at the grip you are using? See often that players are using a forehand grip instead of a continental grip because it makes the many higher volleys they get on their playing level easier. Big drawback is much weaker backhand and low volleys because they are either rotating their wrist or have to switch their grip to compensate the angle of the racket face.

Sorry I disagree back leg bending and unbending going forward , rather then the step I’d the important issue .how about the open space volley which is even more important . The most important theme is upper body stability all else is secondary . Good wisdom on going down the line on low volley. Thanks

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial You are clearly better trained and more experienced than me but it's not 2 steps. I saw your 2 step part. I prefer to push with inside and step w/outside and repeat if needed. Or step over but arrive on outside foot. Less complicated and it definitely gets you to the shot quicker. And ready for a reply.
