Whether you’re at the club level or you’re at the pro level, if you can’t handle the high ball above your shoulder, there will always be those certain opponents that you just can’t beat whether they generate immense topspin or just hit moonballs.
When the ball comes high, you’re forced to hit out of your comfortable strike zone, which makes you more prone to mishits, unforced errors, and excessive energy expense on your shot.
That’s why it’s so important to make the proper adjustments from hitting your forehand at a normal height and returning a high ball.
In this video, we’re gonna cover the techniques used for dealing with the high ball on the forehand side and the goals or tactics when using these techniques.

Guys, I can’t stress enough how good your tênis videos are. They’re dense ,extremely well edited and full of useful information. It’s almost like godfather: each view and review i grab some new useful information to improve my game. Since I’ve started watching your videos my moves has greatly improved in consistency, power and spin. Pain? Mostly gone ! Keep up the good work and a big THANK YOU from Brazil!
Ps: could you guys make a video about two handed backhand and the nuances between flatter and spin shots on it?

    * More upright posture than normal shot with naturally higher take-back. 2:13
    * Don't just adjust the height of your takeback with the arms. 2:21
    * TIlt up the shoulder of the hitting arm towards the ball by adjusting the torso 2:35
    * Racket head slightly above the hand 3:25
    * Consider buggy whip for more topspin 4:25

Fab Fab Fab video guys. You put in at least 15 mins of content in a 5 mins video! As a senior citizen (relative to you youngsters at least), I had to slow it down and watch it twice to absorb everything, And as I write, I think I should watch it twice more just to be sure!
Well done guys. Great energy, Great content, Great video.

There are so many great insights in this video, some of which I've found out myself over the years that I wished somebody told me when I started. F.inst. the importance of the shoulder tilt/torso angle, and how that should vary dependent on the shot. Which made much more sense to me than focusing on keeping the non hitting arm high (which happen naturally if you have the proper torso angle).
Also great stuff about keeping the big muscle groups connected to the arm, and that a correct follow through is a natural result of doing things right (before the follow through). Great stuff, thanks.

For the first time I am able to handle high balls at ease, I was bringing my racquet high and then swinging rather than following a vertical swing path, so basically you can start your racquet below the ball actually well below and still be able to ripper as long as your racquet swing bath remains vertical for heavy top spin, thanks a lot lot that helped Cuz its so accurate for real

I try moving backwards to get the ball to drop to my hitting zone... but this takes too much time and I am off balance trying to back-pedal... and can't get set... also, moving forward to take the ball on the rise in my hitting zone is also a problem with timing and getting my feet planted .... now the high backhand...?

Great video guys. What could you say about options like lifting (on the toes or in the air) for high balls and tilting back when really pushed (to hit a semi-lob maybe)? Both allow to keep arm below shoulder level without getting to weaker shoulder position you describe.

    • @RacquetFlex
      @RacquetFlex  6 лет назад

That is an excellent point, Anton. In fact, we made a video previously on the reverse forehand, which is specifically designed for that purpose (raising your body to the point of contact). This video was intended to show how to hit the balls when you have no other choice but to hit the ball from that often uncomfortable position.

    • @Anton.Arkhipov

Interesting video. As usual, lots of good topics covered.
    Maybe for future videos:
Nearly all of the examples show a jump swing, but there is no discussion of jumping.
Also, the Federer example shows him jumping so his shoulder line points down to the ball (leveling out after contact) but there is no discussion of that method.

Hey, another request video, sorry I ask to much, tennis match coming soon again... so how do you serve cause I serve hard etc but first serve is either out or net... then second is easy for the apponent to hit back... also I see professional throw balls and then feet goes together or slide together... do I have to slide my feet together to serve well? I serve and then my feet just stays in place, after hit I go forward what is wrong with my serve and how can I improve it? Thanks you the best

This video is good, but I think it's missing the key piece: even on high balls, you're (almost) always going to swing up and over the ball, rather than just at the ball of even down on the ball. If you don't you won't produce any spin on the ball and it most likely won't fall into the court. Again, it mostly depends on how flat you're hitting it, but if you look at Federer or Nadal, on high balls they always come up and over them

Thanks for the feedback :) I agree with you that on the high ball, you want to consciously swing up toward the ball when hitting with topspin as supposed to down on the ball.
Perhaps I messaged it poorly, which we are working on improving.
1:47 We discussed about the increased vertical swing path for topspin shots
4:26 the buggy whip follow through is a direct result of the swinging up motion

High balls are my biggset problem by far. Wich leads me to play better against good players that play long and low than moon ballers

Do you change your grip when tackling high balls compared to low ones?

While I am usually unconscious of it, my grip will often be more eastern on the low ball compared to the high ball.

@@RacquetFlex for the grip, do you consider also the effect on the received high ball (spin, flat, or sliced)? Or u just go through what ever the effect? High speed neutralises sometimes the effect.

The greatest part I learned from this video is why buggy whip happened
