4.0 guy here with 30 years of competitive playing experience. Good video and great drills! Everything she said does indeed work against pushers and moonballers, assuming you can execute them. The one thing I would add is that out of all these tactics, the one I have had the LEAST success with is using classic volleys. The reason is because I find it very difficult to hit a classic volley aggressively enough from around the service line to keep opponents from hitting really good lobs. And moonballers tend to have excellent lobs if you give them enough time to set up. If I hit a swinging volley towards either corner, they will still hit a lob, but it usually won't be that good. The only only time I hit a classic volley is when I am in a situation where I am able to close in tight to net and I hit a drop volley. But that is fairly rare against these types of players.

Thank you for the tips. The drill taking the ball in the air behind the service line helped immensely.

Thanks for addressing this issue. I'm playing in a senior 55 and over league. I'd say about 70% of the players are moonball, dropshot, lob, no pace specialists. These drills will definitely help me with these types of players.

Excellent stuff once again! I have had my share of 'givers of no pace' and I lost many a match to them! As always I love the way Meike explains stuff, she is one of the very few that teaches in a way I 'get it'. 🤜🤛

Very good video Meike. I wish I knew that against my first league match against pusher. I remember how angry and frustrated I was , because I knew Im so much better skills wise. I would also add something I learnt: send backhand slice on pusher's backhand around service line to pull him in and next long ball to the baseline on his forhend. Scored this way many points. I also would underlined 10 times in video how court position around service line is important which you nicely explained . You cant be too close to the net. If pusher learns you are smashing his lobs he stops lobbing and finally you have a match. Thank you for great content.Would be worth to make videos for tennis styles too :)

Excellent practical advice. Swinging volleys and drop shots from the baseline are not for lower level players but I understand the longer strategy of making your opponent aware that you will test them.

I think there is another solution to this no-pace-middle-high-ball: doing a slice overhead after 1st bounce. at rec level, the moon baller most are not going to be ready to response a side spin ball coming to them. the pro for this approach is that the high ball after bounce is more managable, after bounce peak would not be high and the overhead contact would meet a slow ball, that's easier to hit before the 1st bounce. the con: the 2nd bounce may not be high enough, maybe just around head or slight above. may need to bend the knees and hit a more slice overhead.the good news, at least my witness is that, many 3.0-4.0 moon ballers are not ready to return a side spin ball, it doesn't need to be fast. they may have experience return slice serve, but side spin overhead is different, because the placement can be anywhere on the court, frankly speaking, i don't have any control of the placement and amount of side spin, so the opponent at rec level have no idea where it would go.

btw, what i said is not hard to learn: last 2 years, i probably practice this about more than 10 times with ball machine. each time with 100 feeds. i would say, anyone can get 80% success rate if you practice 2000 balls over a year. at rec level, i don't see many can return that because they don't have a good anticipation. if you are lefty, that will be even more lethal. even they can return, they mostly won't have control and pace.

Moonballers should just go play pickleball.
This is a fantastic video. Any tips for attacking short balls? I really struggle with those and keep hitting them out.

I was once playing against a pusher. I was trying to take the ball early, sometimes even jumping at the ball, which was ridiculous. At a certain moment I decided to go back, hitting long balls with a lot of topspin. The game changed completely, and he didn’t do any game anymore after this adjustment. This was an important lesson for me. Perhaps today I can manage taking the ball early. You have to find out what is the best strategy at this day.
By the way, I am addicted to drop shots following with lobs or pass shots. I am not really a pusher, but I rarely try to finish the point with a forehand winner. The variation with backhand slices / drop shots drive most opponents crazy.

Ok well a few points here. Tennis is not really a sport due to the moon baller. It’s more of a crafty game. That’s all it is. Moon ballers are like cheaters. They don’t have the athleticism and don’t know the real strokes. Have you ever seen a baseball pitcher throw underhand to the batter and make it past the 1st inning ? No. Have you ever seen a QB toss the ball 10 yards underhanded for a TD? No. Have you ever seen a golfer hit soft wedges from the tee and hit par ? No. So tennis alone in this category.

@@scout7060 it can’t be considered ‘professional’ if your skill is moonwalking. Your just trying to win ‘frustration’ points.
