The three heroes: some generic attack

Yeah i watched the show as it was coming out, and back then it wasn't so obvious. But last week i started rewatching the entire show, just finished. And MAN, seems like 90% of each of the other hero's used the same damn attack but their weapon's variant (Meteor Slash, Meteor Shot, Meteor Stab. or something like that.) Also annoying that they're so stupid. I mean, I get why they're that way (they see the world as a big game, and they are just random nobodies who got stuck in this situation) but damn it's annoying.

They are completely egotistical idiots after all. I am at vol 8 of the light novel and that much is still same and will probably stay like that until near end of the series

I find it both ironic and poetic, that the first skill from Rage Shield that he uses is 'Iron Maiden', a horrific torture tool, that is symbolic in a way of how he was feeling in the series before: constant attacks and pressure from all sides. It is his way of channeling his rage and hate that he felt in a concentrated, physical manifestation.
Now that you've said that, I think I found something else.
During the first couple of episodes, the "Shield Prison" is kind of like during the episodes when he was first with Myne, he was trapped in Myne's manipulatio, it may not exactly be right but that's my feel on it. Contuining on to when he used the Bee Shield, that's when at least how I looked at it when Myne finally excuted the trick; Shield's hero reputation, trust, etc, utterly and brutally stabbed, or "Stabbed in the back." The Iron Maiden could be the collective pressure and attacks from all sides, which is what you said. Everything else is what you put into the exact words.

I am not sure that it is exactly how the shield system works (as he does need materials from different monsters to be fed into the jewel to unlock them), but it is plausible, that at least from the narrative perspective it does match his various emotional states / situations throughout the series)
I’m not sure if it’s true but it looked ass if he added 2 shield powers together to create Ione maiden in the rage form so maybe it also takes away from his ability to be a tank

In order to use 「Iron Maiden」, first the user has to use「Change Shield (Attack) 」on「Shield Prison」and change the shields into a needle weapon form. Then the user has to recite the line "The foolish criminal will feel with their whole body the embrace of virgin iron in a single blow. Release a cry full of painful agony that will not be heard!!"which will activate the skill and drain the user of their SP and leave them exhausted.
Now Myne needs to spend some quality time in Iron Maiden

-SPOILERS- haven't read into the light novels, but in the manga, naofumi gives her and the king the death sentence but myne manages to weasel them out of it. So they just got demoted to commoners and some other harsh punishment

I find it hilarious that not long after this, the king has the bright idea of confronting Naomi and say 'do as I tell you to'.
Even after it was shown that this guy could one shot a Wave Boss that everyone else was struggling with, while he was at a lower level than them. And he had every motivation to do the exact same thing to the king himself, and nobody could stop him.
And then the king has the audacity to get MAD at him.
Stupidity at its finest.
Go figure...
On a technicality - the king is actually stronger than the heroes early on in the story.
He used to be a fairly strong fighter, and the pride since then has rotted his brain. alongside (spoilers)

@@wadejones2567 SPOILERS, at least early in the story he was way more powerful, none of the heroes had used any of the other heros power up methods, they didn't have much skill at that time, while the king had already gotten to a high level, plus Naofumi hadn't been learning magic for long but was still able to cast Liberation tier, while the king was purely a magic based fighter who had been training in magic for many years, so he's likely to also be able to cast Liberation tier, although he might not have learned life force, but he would still be able to cast Drifa magic with Liberation power given how the staff powers up magic massively, where Liberation aura was just a big boost in stats, Liberation aura X when Naofumi used it was able to buff all his teammates an equivalent of over 200 levels,

Naofumi is the one getting more Abilities.
Air Strike Shield, Shield Prison, Literally all of his Shields Unique Abilities, and Iron Maiden (probably one of the strongest move ever and can only get better)
You just listed their generic lightning attacks, they also used fire attacks too in this same episode. These are not special abilities, the rage shield and iron maiden are just powered up moves the special ones wont be in the show till next season.

It gets me every time too. The music build-up, the way Naofumi screams and chants with the dragon. The part that always gives me the most chills though, is watching the lightning come down and hearing the bell chime as the Iron Maiden opens up.

The "weakest" of them practically one-shotted the subboss of the wave in an almost overkill fashion.
And I love how his armor grew and he synchronized with the dragon's lingering wrath

Honestly I didn’t realize how hooked this series would get me. It’s amazing how fast they get you rooting for Naofumi, and every episode I am rooting for Naofumi and his team to succeed. Always wondering what’s the next hurdle in their path. Myne is a perfect antagonist, one that our hero can’t kill but needs to work around and derail her plans. And the trust between Naofumi and his companions is amazingly strong, you’re always worried when one of them is in trouble.

What I really love about this scene is if you pay close attention to the monster peering one of its eyes outside of Naofumi's Shield Prison IT KNOWS WITHIN SECONDS WHAT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. That's a look of pure horror its expressing right now.
I'd say it's more like it's pure anger that a mere human would try to lock it down, that's why he says "not so fast" as is, "don't you even think about escaping now!"
I like how when the others called Naofumi's shield overpowered he basically clapped back (in his mind) with "No, you're just bad."
He's not right tho.
Not even "overpowered" as far as the Heroes are concerned. They always call it a "Cheat Shield" because they had skill issues.

CG natually looks out of place and unnerving so it fits well with things that are out of this world, like magic.
It didn't even occur to me that this was CGI until I read this which is pretty amazing seeing as I'm always quick to notice when they use CGI to animate filo
I'd agree that this CGI is great but I disagree with the rest .. if you've seen handshakers you'd know that bad CG is just bad CG regardless of where you use it .. but most CG in shirld hero is awesome .. in fact the kraken and the ship are also CG .. so are most of naofumi's abilities like shield prison .. the carage filo is dragging and the send clock thingy is also CG .. angry filo shot in this ep had CG (if it wasn't entirely) .. yet it looks gorgeous

The music, along with the Dragon's voice over Naofumi's honestly makes this one of my favorite moments in anime.
Shout out to Raphtalia for effectively becoming Naofumi's Conscience Incarnate and also stopping him from erasing the other useless heroes

And this isn't even his attack his shield attack is way stronger
It wasnt the fact that he had an attack that made him say it, it was the fact that the attack of a shield, wich shines in defence, vastly outclassed the combined damage of everyone else who specialized in offence.

His voice during "Iron Maiden" sends a shiver trough my spine every time. It's just something else
Something that's worth noting is that the other heroes only seemed to use lightning based attacks. From what I can see/imagine, it appears as though the other heroes have been focused solely on leveling themselves up, but forgetting to upgrade their weapons the way Naofumi does, by feeding it different materials for it to evolve and gain new abilities. It looks like the other heroes just saw lightning was a strong attribute, went with it and didn't bother with any others, so even though they are at higher levels than Naofumi (thanks to the king), they are attacking high level bosses with the equivalent of the sword you picked up at level 5. Your attack stat may have increased, but the weapon's damage output hasn't...
Also, I loved how Glass only regarded Naofumi as a true hero, while basically calling the other heroes "children"...
My take on it: The other heroes have experienced video game versions of the world they're in currently, and have fought the waves in video game form (which explains their collective surprise when things begin to differ from the game they're used to). Perhaps the soul eater creature they faced in game form was weak to lightning, so they used their lightning based skills based on the assumption that it shared the same weakness.
@@christopherbackus5578 But they all come from different variations of earth, so while it's plausible for each earth to have RPGs, it's a bit less plausible for each earth to have the same creature in the same game with the same weakness...

@@insertclevernamehere1186 They didn't cover it too well in the anime, but the light novel and the manga go into more detail. My understanding is that the bow, sword, and spear, despite being from different parallel universes, each experienced the same world in video game form, which is why they all know that the boss of the current wave is supposed to be the soul eater (though each of them has a different method of making it appear, perhaps showcasing differences in each of the games they experienced)

Yeah Light Novel, Manga and Anime are like little different dimensions, but I like them all so far
And you are right Anime version is the best. The music and animation is so good in this scene
The creeping feeling of getting filled with holes was better on the manga, but for an animation with CGI I give it to them. Really enjoyed this adaptation.

I love how the one seen as the weakest of them is, in reality, the strongest. I’ve also noticed how in comparison to the other heroes, Naofumi’s shield is the most versatile. While he has a bunch of special abilities to his shield, the other heroes attacks are basically the same, just with different weapons.
Naofumi is the most experienced, the strongest, and he surpasses literally all of the heroes, even though he is just a “shield.”
I don’t think it’s that his shield is more versatile it’s just that the other hero’s didn’t absorb all the stuff like the shield hero they simply got the strongest stuff and said yeah we’re good and never developed the other powers
The thing is the other heroes just haven’t been forced to be as resourceful as naofumi has. Naofumi’s shield had to be versatile or he and the rest of the group would have died. That coupled with the other 3 heroes leveling systems he unlocked means he can grow way faster than them disregarding the fact that naofumi grinds 100x harder than them at any given time.
@@thepolarianempire Naofumi make sure to take the time to max out each shield one by one over the course of the show to keep thier bonuses perminitly. The other heros only moved on to the next stronger thing. More or less an instance of a completionist vs the guy who just plays the main story. One is capped and the other struggles.

No spoilers but Naofumi's offense is still technically the weakest since at least up to where i am in the Light novels (book 6) Naofumi's offensive skills require too much setup (you can see that with Iron Maiden) or have to steep of a cost to be used continually, meaning that they are more or less desperation moves

Ren is the only guy who tries to actually understand what was going on. In the scene where raphtalia shown the light to find the shadow monsters it was Ren and Raphtalia that drew the monsters out. It is repeatedly shown that Ren is not bias and takes everything into consideration

When at level 60+ the strongest attack the spear hero can use is a Lightning strike attack, while in the low 40’s, a Shield class can create a goddamn giant iron maiden in the sky to swallow Dimensional Soul Eaters?

In the web novel at least explains why the difference in power, which is the amount of release forms they have of their weapons. If I'm remembering they are suppose to be close to 70 by this stage.
Naofumi's stronger because he masters his shield abilites before moving on, while the others just basically still treat the world like a game so all they do is look for the next strongest thing totally can't wait till they get their asses kicked and realize how weak they really are.
Naofumi is stronger because he's delved deeper into the world of the "game" and recieved power that the others haven't. With his base shield forms, he is significantly weaker in terms of DPS. His Rage Shield is another story entirely, but keep in mind - it comes with a cost. It only lasts for a short time, and he spends a lot of that time almost completely mindless.
Naofumi wasn't even on the 40's, his entire team couldn't go pass 40 since they weren't allowed to class up. also, the curse series skills are payed in the form of the users health, so not exactly something any of the heroes can just go throwing around, but you will see

This is what makes an action anime, what truly shows what an Isekai can be. Like fuck, Naofumi is the perfect main character and the show has just enough angst and conflict to really make moments like these hit home. Fuck the other heros, this is what happens when you fight for more than just yourself.
