I was thinking the same. He's finally becoming the hero part of shield hero. By that he's becoming a bit more altruistic and shedding the callouses Malty brought on him.

@@Ren_1106 shields in general combat are severely underestimated mainly because of movies and series where weapons shine when was the last series/movie beside shield hero where a shield got a name (like sting from the hobbit etc)
@@Ren_1106 I don't know about you but I don't know of any shields that can shoot a railgun and summon a giant chain chomp. At this point, it's more of a jack of all trades magic device in the shape of a shield.

Your not wrong in these 6 episodes they went through 2 of the light novels and cut half of the content out of them in the 1st season they had it so each light novel played out in 4 episodes and they hardly cut anything out

Its been a little hit and miss with the new season so far, but this episode really knocked it out of the park and reminded me why I loved the first season so much.
And it was because of everything that happened in the previous episodes.
The conversation and development of the characters that made this episode stronger to see.
I know this is a sad moment but I can't help but find it badass that they gave Naofumi a shield that has the freaking vector cannon from Zone of the Enders.

@@elitetrooper119 Do you think that they should've added a bit from the WN? Specifically, the part where the heroes switched party members. If I'm not mistaken, Naofumi found Ren's team to be the most genuine as they apologized for not being able to help him when he was framed and not choosing to be on his team despite being in Melromarc where the Shield Hero is seen as demonic.

No matter dark things may get. I believe in Shield Heroes and the Shielder person wielding it with heart and belief.
What only knows people who read the novel is, that Ray gun worked using turtle's power and for that reason Naoufumi could attack, as you may have seen, Ost forced the shield to do it cause normally it wouldn't
So maybe in the future you will hear him trying to use that shield again but will be impossible because he don't have enough power and the only way to obtain it is absorbing the power of the guardians beasts

I watched so many marvel movies, never got goosebumps. Watched this scene lasting a little more than two minutes. Got goosebumps.
Despite everything that's been happening how fast S2 is flying through this arc, and momments I wished were animated, I really loved this scene, and the OP for the begining of this series just became one that I love because of this scene, fits really well as a hype up song.
I agree. The last few episodes of Shield Hero are pretty good, and this is my favorite this season. Light novel readers also agreed as while the stuff was rushed, they did the recent episodes justice. Also with how Rishia is done here imo.
A lot of people think this ark should have just been skipped all together, I haven't watched or read it so I wont judge but the first few episodes of s2 were pretty boring before I gabe the series a break no lie.
@@ejmakibelo3224 you can't skip this arc because it contains a lot of world building that will become relevant in the next seasons, but in general it's considered one of the weakest arcs in the LN, so I kind of understand why they want to rush it, animating the entire spirit tortoise arc has it is would have needed 13 episodes at least, and would have been even more of a chore, at least now next week we begin the Kizuna World Arc that is more interesting

I just adore this scene the timing of the opening and how the shield shows naofumi doesnt have the same hatred he had for this world, I do wonder if Fitoria has some clairvoyant powers when she said to choose the world or the people that resides in it (the spirit tortoise can stop the waves but at the cost of the ppl)
I always understood it as her and her shield hero going through similar situations back when they were a party. She speaks from experience and predicts history to repeat itself

That new shield looks even more awesome.
The one thing writers should add to the mix is Shield Hero’s Shining Shield but the Angel wings on Naofumi’s back, but beyond powerful than Rage Shield.
I like the fact that the chorus in the op was more in the style of the one we heard in the trailer instead of the one in the actual opening where the drums was more noticeable.
I think it really fits the scene more.

Apparantly support became god tier due to effort and totally not a plot Armor.
(I think support is the most important because they sacrifice their experience to help the team and assure the mission)
As the d and d tank/beat stick I can say spear hero is always WRONG!
Funnily enough, it's more because Naofumi has had to struggle and make the most of everything he has, whereas Ren, Motoyasu, and Itsuki had the benefit of infrastructure set in their favor and meta knowledge about the world that helped them speedrun everything early on, but that's ironically made them rather inept at actually fighting because they haven't taken anything particularly seriously since the start, and the builds they've been focusing on are deeply suboptimal because they're focusing on specific upgrade paths that sacrifice virtually all utility on the altar of DPS. Incidentally, this means that they don't have as many passive stat boosts as they should for their level, which is inadvertently gimping them compared to Naofumi, who should be weaker than them by all rights, and their tactical flexibility is essentially nonexistent because again, the morons focused on damage instead of, say, crowd control.

It’s actually explained much later in the series, not sure if it was web or light novel but spoilers ahead:
Each legendary weapon gets to pick their heroes so it can summon them, however the summoning of the best fit doesn’t always succeed. Naofumi was the shields first choice and it got lucky with picking him. If I remember correctly the other three were their weapons third choices because they couldn’t summon the others. This means naofumi was the best fit for the shield so he was technically ’special’ meaning he needed less of a push for his weapon to reach full potential

I think that in the week-end I'll try to re-watch this entire half of season again as I feel really confused (I'm a novel reader). I'm hoping that seeing all the episodes in one go will make more sense.

This whole arc the pacing was off, the character development was all over the place, and some of the animation was pretty poor. And yet, I still enjoyed this episode quite a bit. Enough that I'm looking forward to the next arc (and hopefully an improvement in the storytelling).
i am glad you enjoy it! basically this arc was here mainly to give some development to characters and open the plot for the next arc which will actually be great.
@@aandmfbfn I think a big issue with this arc was that Risha didn’t have enough spotlight time. Her development felt quite sudden. I enjoyed this arc but there were a lot of problems with it.
