Raphtalia's ancestor was originally a Vassal Hero, plus Raphtalia vowed to being Naofumi's sword, is likely why the Katana chose Raphtalia

@@anthonyshedd6411 I wouldn't be surprised if the previous Katana Vassal was actually Raphtalia's ancestor. As well was the shield heroes blade. And as a result Naofumi's team is the true prophesied mirror image of the original shield hero team. And all along the filolial queen knew the truth all along but didn't say anything as to keep them all humble. Cause the Katana Vassal like outfit fit Raphtalia almost too perfectly.
Edit: And as to why the Katana truely picked Raphtalia was cause it sensed its true owners spirit reincarnated.

Raphtalia has transcended into a hero and she has shown her ability as the katana hero, very graceful.
Look at the way Raphtalia handles this situation, and then you can easily figure out why the katana chose her over that idiot.
I would guess it’s more for her urge to protect Naofumi. Because „samurai are protectors” or smth. The guy just wanted revenge. The Vassal Weapon clearly didn’t like that goal

What I’ve noticed from watching the various heroes is that the reason why the spear, sword and bow heroes are so weak is because all they do is cast “lightning-whatever”, where everyone else uses unique “hero” moves.

Its not only that all 3 of them are the 3rd choice of there weapons but Naofumi is the first choice for the shield and was 1 of All other 3 weapons

@@cristianflores1588 Well people are saying its bad because they skipped content,but most people said the spirit tortoise arc was such a heavy drag in the LN,they just had to get this out of the way to set up for the actual interesting moments,and unfortunatly the first half of the anime episode 1-3 was actually pretty intresting then i felt the slog from 3-6 and would not wish for an entire season of that tortoise arc.

Whenever a weapon chooses its wielder, it never chooses an entitled candidate, especially when it's also the first candidate in line. It always takes more than one candidate to find the chosen one. It's an ironclad rule to prevent anticlimaxes.
The second season is back in the race, I was really worried after the really bad beginning of the second season...I hope it's stay on this level now.
Btw did you feel like you missed something when you started watching season 2? Well that because there was a WHOLE TRAINING ARC that they decided to ignore we got better introduction to eclair and the old lady and why the heroes went ahead to fight the turtle on their own

I still remember when Fairy tail had one and they made fun of it by skipping it and basically giving the main characters power ups through a spell where they had to endure the pain of training in one sitting. Once it finished they were all stronger lol. It happens
@@bryana.escaleralopez yeah but this one only had 2 chapters of actual training the rest was about "mysterious monsters" aka the tortoise familiars despite that the arc showed the other 3 heroes mentality about this world character development and the sword hero and eclair the pink haired swordwoman first meet which their relationship becomes very important later on also it slowly introduces the tortoise instead of just getting jumped on and leaving people confused
bruh, it's been a while since season one, but I don't remember Raphtalia being quite this badass.
That is one of the most powerful scene that I have ever seen for this episode.
She does the impossible: she becomes even more cool and badass than she already was

Her compassion, restraint and overall femininity make her so much more badass than most female "heroines". Watching this gave me goosebumps. :)

Hollywood, take notes. This is a strong female character done right
Yup. Done right. Raphtalia gets stripped of all of the power that she attained, gets turned back into a child, gets carried by another group for a while before a sword just up and decides that she, a child who isn’t even from this world, is more worthy of it than anyone else. And then the sword just gives her back the strength that she lost and then she randomly and instantly learns how to perform several new moves that come with the sword. Totally a strong female character done right. Sure. And then after performing a couple of those moves, Raphtalia ends up so tired she can’t even move and needs to be saved by Naofumi from a copy of the two beasts she literally just got done one-shotting.
Oh, but I guess she’s a strong female character done right if you ignore every bit of context that sandwiches the moment in this scene.

@@95onimusha It does if you want them to be “done right.” A woman getting the power by just showing up to a place isn’t a “strong female character done right.” A woman getting exhausted after using two moves isn’t a “strong female character done right.” A woman needing to be saved by a man isn’t a “strong female character done right.”
And you know what the worst part is? The sword deemed her worthy of it while she still had the mindset that her only worth could come from how useful she is to Naofumi, and her only real motivation was her slaver showing her affection. A child with dependency issues was supposedly more worthy than anyone else in the world to wield a sword. Yupp. I’m happy with her getting the katana, but I’m not happy about how pathetic they managed to make her come off during one of her most badass moments.

@Aether No a hero with a shield named Naofumi is who she also works together with.
@Aether Haven’t watched season 2 yet fully but have watched all of season 1 and can say it’s a very good show with it actually having a fresh take on the isekai genre along with Naofumi( Protag) and the other main characters being really good along with a interesting plot that doesn’t just involve a op protag but actually having a protag who has to build his way up in the world to become strong enough to survive and beat enemies.
Tldr; A very very god watch and would highly recommend to give a shot.

This anime is better then i expected this needs at least 10 seasons and powerful villians like overlord and powerful level self trained adventurer high level villians that's strong enough to fight heros on his own.
With powerful weapons and spells. Not as good as the hero weapons but still has powerful strategies.

Don't understand how there was no questions/confusion from Naofumi about her just being a vassal hero of a weapon from another world, and how did this have no conflictions with returning to her world with the vassal weapon

So far, knowing him; I doubt he was ever a _consensual_ kind of guy.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the Katana weapon somehow changed Raphtalia's personality and combat stance? Like shes never been shown using a Katana before, but now she wields the vassal weapon like a true Samurai.... and she does not scream out a Huaaa before her slash.
Will be interesting to see how she learns more about how the weapon works from the other weapon users. What will her stats screen reveal and will she be able to form parties just like naofumi can. From my understanding, the vassal weapons are weaker than the cardinal weapons, but not by much. They operate on the same ruleset and are all sentient.
Spoilers
Raphtalia is going to get back to her dimension with the Katana, and it becomes a vassal weapon instead of a holy one. So in a way she stole it from the current dimension, but the Katana is still hers.

the Katana has never been a legendary weapon, what are you talking about? It has always been a vassal weapon. The 4 Legendary Weapons of Glass's World are: Blunt Instrument, Hunting, Ofuda and Jewel
The 8 Vassal Weapons Of Glass’s World are : Harpoon, Scythe, Katana, Book, Boat, Mirror, Fan and Musical Instrument

Mostly everyone would likely know which blade I refer too and I apologise for the confusion.
Seeing her do this by herself is a very weird feeling, since this is a group battle with everyone in LNs. If this is what the final battle is replaced with that would rather suck. It is rather cool to see but it feels very out of place. If this is just her solo adventure, and we have the group fight later, then that would be amazing

I think Raphtalia soloing this fight is excusable. It shows character development and how far she’s actually gotten.

Sigh of relief nothing bad gonna happen to Raphtalia anymore. A vassal weapon user partied with the shield hero for that bonus XP. Although I just thought about the no partying up thing with cardinal weapons hope it doesn't apply to her otherworld based weapon.
There's no restriction with cardinal weapons + vassal weapons (I suspect it's kind of accepted). Note that Naufumi and L'Arc teamed up to grind for XP in the Cal Mira islands.
But Cardinal weapons --- even from different worlds --- inhibit XP when their wielders are too close, which is why Naufumi wasn't gaining XP when teamed up with Kizuna.

Yep only I think they offscreened it because of how many chunks he fell into .
I think they are saving that part for a later episode when everyone is together again. They still need to group up with L'arc's team. Not to mention the anime likes to downplay a lot of the gorier aspects of the story.

A lot of people are worried that Raphtalia will be forced to fight Naofumi because they're two heroes of two enemy worlds that are trying to destroy each other. Personally, I think it's the perfect motive to break the cycle of destruction. Each world is only trying to destroy the other under duress, to prevent its own destruction.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kyo was trying to make the two worlds fight each other just to satisfy his bloodlust. If not him, then someone else is probably responsible for the waves of catastrophe between two worlds that wouldn't otherwise have to fight each other.
Whoever it is, they made a huge mistake putting Raphtalia and Naofumi in their current predicament, as if it wasn't bad enough already. If you try to force those two to fight each other, they'll turn on you instead, and you deserve whatever they do to you.
I agree, whoever decided that it was a bright idea to have those two be in a position that they have to fight is screwed worse than a protagonist of a yandere harem/yandere reverse harem.
Yep, Naofumi has never been one to play by “you have no choice” and whatnot… there’s always another option, even if it’s just the nuclear option 🤣
