- Kurt Angle is a 14-time professional wrestling world champion, with titles collected in WWE, TNA, and Japan. He is in both the WWE and TNA/Impact Hall of Fames, a two-time NCAA Division 1 National Champion, and has also won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Summer Games with, as he likes to say, ‘a broken freaking neck.’ At every stop in his career, Angle has reached the top of the mountain, and now he’s taking his Three I’s; Intensity, Intelligence, and Integrity, to the podcast world as he joins host Paul Bromwell to take a look back at some of the matches, feuds and moments that turned an Olympic gold medalist into one of the greatest sports entertainers of all time. It’s True. It’s damn true

I’ll always be an RVD fan. Who ISN’T an RVD fan? Dude’s beloved!
Couldn't agree more. If you don't like RVD, you have serious issues.
Just with Kurt Angle. If you don't like Kurt and RVD, you have some issues.
@@FlakMonky20k Oh, its true...its DAMN true!
RVD great unique worker, everyone says great guy in the locker room. No politics, no bull, real chilled guy but would stand up for himself. And at a legit 230 lbs could do stuff in the ring that some cruiserweights couldn’t do.
Me. Thought he was way overrated
Guys like RVD can kick ass but didn't need to flaunt it. Those are the guys you gotta watch out for, not the guys who brag about it to everybody.
Always beware of the people who don't talk much or calm and collected, they can kick your ass.
And those who likes to flaunt or flex it are the ones who cant fight. Someone from Chicago
@@NookTommy Like the bucks who didn’t want to drop the belts to FTR and made a “trios” championship, while having their friend Adam Page go into business for himself. Punk was the first million dollar draw and the bucks and omega can’t stand it lol
Taz agrees with this.....now.
@@Josh-dy4lq Stop watching Cornette😂
Rob's shoot interview where he talks about the people he legitimately thought of punching because they got on his nerves is hilarious! 😅
The old 'pick a hand!'
the shawn michaels impression is one of the greatest shoot interview moments
The hbk impression is too good
@justjarvis106 "Rob your were funny..and witty..."
RVD : "Like what a backhanded compliment, like I know that you think I'm retarded, that's why all my promos are cool or whatever"
@@joshuaperez441 "Th-this is what I enjoy about these things you know because you get to see people who aren't normally here!"
RVD was light years ahead of his time. Wrestlers today are getting 7 stars emulating what Rob was doing in 1998.
Yeah, if he were in his prime now he'd be top talent instead of underutilized. WWE really missed the mark with RVD due to Triple H's bullshit ego. Triple H really damaged the hell out of a lot of wrestlers careers and his buddy Shawn was a piece of shit as well. Yeah, they were good wrestlers and all but total jackasses.
Highfly wrestling existed back then and even before and it was more entertaining than today's "5 star matches"
Sean Waltman is another guy who was years before their time, that's not to say there weren't athletic guys back in the day, a dude like Mr Perfect was, but his style was the complete opposite and more fitting for the time. I wish we could have a young RVD and Sean Waltman in today's wrestling world.
@JohnVanRiper what about x pac heat though.
Tbh RVD sounds like he was a man in a locker room of boys. Most of them were projecting insecurities and creating unnecessary diva drama in the name of competition.
CM Punk! CM Punk! CM Punk!
Randy Orton. Cries and gets people fired
Because he took psychedelic drugs lol his ego was healthy compared to the majority which as you said were pretty much still boys.
@@NookTommy false
U do realize the entire industry of professional wrestling is based upon creating unnecessary drama. So Shamrock, Lesnar, Angle, the Steiners & the countless & majority of others in the locker room were boys....umm OK. Guarandamntee everyone guy & Rousey & Shayna would whoop ur candy ass.
RVD, one of the nicest pro wrestlers ive ever met. Took time.....mid ring entrance....to take an awesome pic of himself and fonzie for me. And ensured that it was clear and awesome before moving on.
Saw him again years later, and he remembered me from the instance years earlier. Just as nice.
Super class act.
Definitely not one to fuck with either.
Same here, one of the nicest wrestlers I've ever met.
When someone like Kurt Angle speaks highly of you, you know your a big deal. Weird as they couldn't be more different personality wise but seems like Angle genuinely likes RVD
You are illiterate.
Damn right
RVD is just a genuinely likeable man. Wish I was more like him.
One of a kind
RVD vs Jerry Lynn was one of the best series of matches in pro wrestling history
Was always an RVD fan but became a huge appreciater of him in later years and just how truly hilarious he is. His shoot interviews are legendary.
They're legendary? 😂
@@mcdickassass Yeah 😂
I believe it, RVD was great in Bloodsport!
That is one of my favorite movies ever lol. I wish they still made movies like that.
@AmariKhumalo OK usa!!
Pick a hand with RVD
If you know, you know
Crazy that a WWF locker room has the same dynamics as a high school football locker room
RVD in ecw was crazy. Rvd and Sabu were always the best matches.
@@Dr_C_Smith agreed, Lynn and RVD had a great rivalry.
@@charleswhitford2026 As a Minnesotan, I’m always going to put over local boy Jerry Lynn!
@@Dr_C_Smith Jerry lynn was great in ECW, when he has in wcw they never gave him a chance. I remember rvd and Jerry lynn having 3 crazy matches that went on for over 30 minutes.
Too bad we didn't have more RVD vs Kurt matches. When they did, they were always good. But Vince blew it by not pushing RVD in 2001.
The biggest mistake was having HHH beat him at Unforgiven 2002 via Ric Flair interference. I was there and that result took all of the air out of the crowd. No one cared what happened in the main event because RVD was giga over and the crowd wanted him to win.
yeah he was always white hot by the crowds, idk why vince never made him the main star.
@@praveshmaharaj4387 when he did Rob ruined it by getting pulled over with Sabu. Pretty unfortunate though because Rob is one of my favorites of all time. Ever since I first saw him on Raw when ECW invaded in 97.
@@MikeArpeggio345 yeah that sucks .
@@MikeArpeggio345Yeah but it should have happened in ‘01/‘02 tbh.
My dad said he had a conversation with an American guy wearing a WWE tracksuit on a bench in Melbourne in Australia when WWE were there for Super Showdown in 2018. The guy was smoking and we figured out it was Mike Chioda but my dad had no idea who he was.
Pick a hand...
As a 90s baby Jeff Hardy, Scottie 2 Hottie, RVD, Rhyno and Steve Blackman were my idols growing up.
Totally, I had the hand straps and RVD shirt and an Intercontinental belt when I was 14. Good times
The lethal weapon!!!
You don't fight a guy named after Jean Claude 😂
RVD would whip his ass too.
At least we got 11 seconds of what we can here for
I always got the feeling that Rob would be the kind of guy who would know you for a few hours and hear about some problem you were dealing with and immediately decide he wants to help you out with it. Like I'm sure he is not the sort you would want to cross, but I feel like he's someone that would be quick to connect with.

🔥🗽🔥
Taz worked himself into a shoot brother, and RVD had to slap him back down to Earth. 😂
Facts lol!😅
I still can’t fathom how kurt won a gold medal in a stackkkkkked Olympic division and WITH A BROKEN FRICKIN NECK
Before his untimely demise, Kurt had the Dave Schultz training him. The most respected mind in wrestling was a mentor to the eventual world and Olympic champion. Kurt truly was part of a special moment in American wrestling.
He had a doctor on standby after every match that would just prop him up on painkillers. Kurt said this in, I think, this same interview. If not this one, he said it in a different one.
Novacaine shots in the neck every few hours
Just ask Tazz what's it like fighting RVD
I was gonna comment that he survived and thrived in an original ECW locker room. A lot of WWE guys prolly thought twice. Especially after Joey Styles knocked out JBL. RVD was famous for the pick a hand game also.
Of course nobody gave RVD trouble. He had educated feet!
Rvd once split his legs between two benches and lifted a heavy dumbell that puts enormous stress on groin. That was some feet of strength on display.
RVD was so cool when I met him. Such a nice guy 😊
I miss the days of the legit shooter wrestlers, nowadays it’s a bunch of video game playing anime nerds
RVD actually was in a awsome 90s martial arts movie called BLOODMOON
U spelled BLOODSPORT wrong
@@thawjcojly Yeah, that's his best movie IMO 🙃
Kurt won’t pick a hand… two of the greatest!
I like how RVD comes off as a really nice guy but has the power to spin kick your head off if you start causing trouble.
Ron Simmons was the same, super nice guy and fun to be around but was strong as hell and didn't even need to work out.
@@Travybear1989 Oh yeah, Ron Simmons was a legit badass. Personally speaking, my favorite spinebuster in all of wrestling.
Rob also has his own weight lifting technique. He would do the splits between two benches (one leg facing forward and the other facing backward) and lift two dumbbells up over his head. This gives him a shoulder workout as well as a core workout. There's footage of him doing it in youtube.
Taker and Angle r my 🐐 🐐
I still have a shirt that has not fight me in over a decade but was bought and signed at a live event during his TNA days. One of the few possessions I own that I actually truly care about.
It’s crazy to me how much RVD looks like Jean Claude Van Dam
My Olympic Hero, Oh It's True, It's Damn True!🏅
Even by this account, RVD seems like a cool headed, laid back dude. On a side note if Kurt looked into CBD he would be having a better health journey 🙏🏽
Rob Van Dam or Jean Claude Van Dam? 😂
I used to think Rob was JCVDs younger brother 😂
@@malakai5523 me to they looked alike when I was a kid😂
I though he was jcvd thought he quit fighting in movies to fighting “for real”
Jean Claude van damme invented the lifting weights while doing the splits and RVD holds the record for most weight lifted while doing the splits
Van Damme in his prime would destroy RVD.
What happened to Kurt eyes? Like genuinely, is he ok? Much love brother‼️❤️🤍💙
He's getting old.
The Whole f'n Show
Rvd always reminded me of jcvd
If Kurt fucking Angle says you’re a badass, you’re a badass.
Happy early four twenty everyone
I am respecting both sides of not smoking and smoking thank you Kurt that is very interesting Giovanni says thank you.
He truly is the cousin of Jean Claude Van Damme.
Everyone always talks about Jeff hardy in their top 5 top 10 but I’m taking R V D 👏🏽🤘💯
RVD checked Taz in ECW
I think that’s what added so much to RVD’s appeal. Because when I was a kid, I could sort of tell that he was like some kung fu-esque fighter.
RVD never looked stiff, if anything he looked like he pulled it too much, to know he was actually worked stiff surprised me.
I remember seeing a clip from this match where he kicked Samoa Joe pretty hard in the face. I mean you could see the sweat flying. Joe elbowed him good later on before the end.
His Rolling Thunder absolutely looked stiff. He always dropped his whole ass on the dude full force every time.
@@fmthebaron didn't hold back on that frog splash either
@@acecashman1237 Kevin Nash corroborated everything everyone in this thread is saying -- he especially mentioned the Frog Splash and Rolling Thunder.
He looked stiff when he'd do dives but I think he pulled back on the kicks. His kicks probably felt like hooks and alot of those wrestlers will have had no idea what a full-force spinning kick actually feels like.
Lol when I was a young child I always thought that he and Jean-claude were the same guy..
Rvd the only guy new jack wouldnt try to kill
RVD would literally destroy New Jack in a shoot fight or street fight.
Angle vs RVD for the ecw was one of the matches I have ever seen
Rvd is a BADASS because he didn't care if you knew he smoked
Kurt Angle is the GOAT
I used to run into Rob all the time in Venice Beach ,at this weed dispensary right across from muscle Beach
Kurt could've just had his glass of milk while Rob was over in the other side of the room smoking.
Some people don’t like breathing in smoke. To each his own.
👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
"Pick a hand" - RVD
Rvd vs Jean Claude vandamme
Imagine if they had done a Brawl For All 2 with more of an MMA/kickboxing ruleset. RVD would've done well.
Who else mistook RVD for Jean Claude Van Damme? 😂
If Angle says he's tough, I'd believe it
Rob can literally destroy someone in a fight. Shoot fight or street fight.
Him and bubba would real fight in the ring
Kurt's ex wife Karen was the one complaining about RVD being dangerous in the ring. Kurt wasn't complaining.
I though it was Phil Heath, no joke!!!
This sounds strange but Rob just looks like a guy who can fight
RVD is like Jean Claude Van Damme
Kurt Angle vs Bob Backlund - in their primes
Please give opinions....
Bro rvd would literally tell mfs pick a hand. The kicks and shit he does aren't just wrestling, mfs a legit martial artist
I don't think I've heard a single story of RVD actually getting into a fight. Anyone got any?
the pick a hand story w/taz. otherwise can't think of any either 🤔
@The Notorious ROC Sure, but Taz backed down and no hands got picked, so we're still at nill.
Like Kurt said, everyone knew not to try RVD. 😮
You don’t fuck with a guy who can do a split on two chairs and lift almost 200lbs off the ground lol

“Pick a hand”
So glad rvd won the championship.
Smokers that... Smoke?
Usually the guys who are legit fighters will be stiff but they aren’t afraid to take shots. they’ll tell you to give it to them as hard as they give it to you. RVD, Del Río, Angle, and pretty much anyone who has wrestled in Japan will be stiff.
Yep, Shamrock and Blackman, too. Man, did we ever get a Blackman vs RVD? Because that would have been an awesome match.
@@billywashere6965 Blackman left just as RVD came in to the wwe. They would’ve had some good matches I bet. Probably would’ve been like a sparring match for them.
Del Rio loves hitting women so there's that
RVD learned stiffness from his trainer, the Original Sheik
He should of hung out with RVd... Instead of being PERC ANGLE....RVD could of introduced him to the Good Life😊
Talk softly but carry a big spliff!
He's laid back but will casually kick you arse!
Rob would have been so much more than he already was if WWE just let the smoke slide
😮💨 Also, Matt Riddle was my 2nd thought but….in his new interview with Ariel Helwani just last month he said smoke was fine now but, the coke/strippers was the problem 😂 Here I was thinking it was just the old RVD formula. Jeff Hardy would count but well, he’s on all the drugs!
LOVE THIS FUCKING SHOW 💯❤️💪🏼
I was into Pills like all the other boys Rob was into weed and lived a long healthy life
They had it back wards back then lol
I was into sniffing gasoline, making hardcore porn, and drinking vodka with every meal.
*Note: RVD & Kurt are both Sagittariuses.*
Noted
That means literally nothing. Oh you know what they also are? They both like the color red so that makes them co-fhlorbos. See how easy it is to make shit up?
RVD is JCVD's Stoner brother lol
Jean Claude was a coke head
JCVD DID MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF COCAINE BACK IN THE DAY
Cleary the creators had a another name that rvd was to imitate in a way. Hence the name
RVD is a better fighter than JCVD.
If only we had footage of RVD punching out Taz's dwarf ass
RVD vs JCVD
Pick a hand, smack😂😂
RVD hung out with Sabu. Enough said.
WHAT?! RVD partook in the weed?
I'm shocked.
Ole Job Van Dam been watching too much blood sport.
RVD has a story about Jericho getting pissed at him for being stiff lol
yeah and Y2J did nothing about it as he didn't want to get his ass kicked.
Trust me you want to be with the smokers that’s a the cliq the RVD the HHH and the rock
RVD a new ECW Rey Mysterio And Kurt Angle And John Cena is your first time we are in the world to get a New York Raw 2006 of the best thing ever since Raw 2006 And SVR2007 And WWE2K23
Guy said Sloppy Joe ran a 4.50 40, 😂
ask kurt about stooging off sabu for drugs
Rob pick a hand vam dam
Pick a hand.
The smokers are the ones that seem to be doing better. All the ones that didn’t smoke , that drunk, got hooked on pain killers and cocaine , aswell as steroids, a lot of them guys died way early in the 40’s amd even some in their 30’s. Due to that. Smokers , they work, go smoke weed, chill, smoke more weed and go bed. Smokers ain’t got time for any other drug….
Haha Kurt talking about that 'smoke' like he didn't do much harder stuff
I don't think Kurt was doing anything heavy in 2001-02.
