While the sequel trilogy had good moments, it also felt disjointed and lacked synergy. @@andrewriordan2260 Just because it’s the end doesn’t mean it can’t explore new ideas or expand on old ones. Seriously, despite taking decades after the OT hardly anything has changed. The First Order is a blatant rip off of the Empire but far less menacing and the same applies for the Resistance as an inferior copy of the Rebellion. The dynamic is the same but the conflict feels smaller because there’s no hint that anything more is happening elsewhere in the galaxy during the sequel movies.
Prequels are awesome! Idc what anybody says. Episode 1, might of been a little stale, but the lore it created/.expanded upon is great! Imo, episode 2 is the most underrated Star Wars movie. Only thing I didn’t really like about that movie was 70% of the romance scenes, I thought the rest was amazing. Anakins foreshadowing to the dark side was perfectly done imo. The scene when he killed the Tuscan raiders when his mom died was great, plus I loved obi-wans side adventure, when he discovered the clone army, and had the altercation with jango fett. Plus the world building/aesthetics is great! Episode 3 was just epic AF! From what I’ve been hearing it’s a lot of ppls favorite Star Wars movie, or at least really high up on their list.
THANK YOU. Episode II is insanely underrated and gets way too much hate. The atmosphere and score behind that movie is phenomenal which made for a really captivating experience to me. As a child that movie really captured just how cool the Star Wars universe would be to live in. I don't even care about the CGI, it looked better than most movies at the time and still looks great today especially on blu-ray. Episode I's CGI didn't age as well, but I still love it for the reasons you listed, and after the Disney trilogy, I have grown to love it even more.
I don't know if I would say II is underrated but the lore it created MASSIVELY overshadow the movie itself. So I still appreciate II for what it gave us. The clone wars TV show, Battlefront, and characters like Dooku and Jango. I even like the Battle of Geonosis as portrayed in the movie. It just has a lot of problems overall that stop it from being a good single movie. But you can't deny what that movie did for Star Wars. You just can't
I honestly don't see what's so bad about the romance. I'd say it progressed a little too quickly with Padme saying she's deeply in love on Geonosis and ending on marriage but the progression wasn't inherently bad. Also should have swapped the first kiss and meadow scene. TPM and AOTC aren't bad but within the context of the trilogy there wasn't really enough progression or explanation as a whole.
Kurokami Najimi I thought the scene when they were on Naboo, with the waterfalls in the background was a good scene. Probably the best one in the movie imo
Imagine that Lucas started drawing inspiration from the Emperor. What if he knew that putting faith in Kennedy would result in her betraying him, scrapping his original ideas and resulting in lackluster films that would force audiences to admit his movies weren’t actually all that bad? 🤔🤔🤔

While I’ll always prefer the originals, the prequels have been elevated especially ROTS. I’ll take them over the convoluted sequels any day of the week.
The Empire returns more powerful than ever as TFO out of nowhere and one shots the New Republic, their leader is a cloned puppet led by Palpatine who should by all accounts be dead and he is taken down by a Jedi novice who’s had little training for more than a year, not to mention the OT heroes aside from Leia were pretty much useless overall.

I always appreciated The Prequels, in fact I'm laughing now at Prequel Bashers because the B.S. criticisms they threw at TP fit The Sequel Trilogy more. Also the RLM Prequel reviews are and have always been a joke.
Noo... there's a reason the RLM reviews are as well known as they are, the prequels have a laundry list of problems that I shouldn't even have to explain as you probably are aware of them all but choose to ignore them. Dont get me wrong i love the prequels problems and all and think the sequels do more harm to star wars than good, but that doesn't negate just how bad the prequels really were and you shouldn't pretend they're this perfect gem, especially 1 and 2. 3 was genuinely decent though.
I heard someone say something important: “The Prequels are all bad movies but they are good Star Wars movies”. I agree with that and i love the prequels still

Not to mention how the new movies ruined Luke and Anakin's story.. Anakin being the chosen one, tragically falling into the dark side, but redeeming himself in the end by destroying the Sith as prophesied, through the help of his son Luke. The new films kinda took a dump on that...what a shame.. :/
My ranking of the Star Wars trilogies: Sequel Trilogy - As a whole, it's okay, not the best or the worst. Original and Prequel Trilogies - Both classics in their own rights.
Not sure any of the Star Wars films are classic other than maybe empire. And I love Star Wars but as stand alone films they’re not amazing films just an amazing creation and franchise. I’d say empire is the best followed by new hope revenge return phantom and clones.
The prequels were good ideas, executed poorly, I’ve always been a fan of the prequels, I was relatively young, so I never even knew people had this reaction to them until I got older
Love the prequels, unique deep storytelling about the downfall of liberty and the rise of demagogues. They expand their universe. The sequels are unnecessary rehashes without any art design or ideas. They are not just redundant but diminish the previous films.
Hey you know that original doesn’t equal good. Phantom Menace is also an ANH rip off. And they don’t diminish the previous films, they are sequels, theyre supposed to add to the canon, midichlorians *do* diminish the original trilogy.
Maul vs jinn and kenobi will continue to age amazingly! Anakin slaughtering tuskins after his mother's death was perfect foreshadowing. Revenge of the sith was mixed reactions when it first came out, but it's the clear best of the prequels and has aged the best, especially with the Clone wars show, and with season 7 concluding the show. When you watch the clone wars, revenge of the sith hits you so much harder and differently than watching it without watching the clone wars. The clones were just as big of victims as the jedi. Order 66 is hella tragic, since the inhibitor chips forced the clones to turn on their jedi friends. Think of these in your head and see how hard it hits you. Padme: you're a slave? Anakin: I'm a person, and my name is anakin! Luke: I've accepted the truth that you were once anakin Skywalker, my father. Darth Vader: that name no longer has any meaning for me!
Yeah man people were going crazy talking about him destroying there childhood and raping it for years And it was never that serious I enjoy the prequels as much as the original hell I'll say I'll watch ep 1-3 more sometimes than 4-6. I one of those who accepts what people say the prequels have problems and I'm cool with it because no movie or movies or perfect , but the mega hate was unnecessary.
I always loved the prequels. The hate always baffled me back in the day. I'm glad to see a lot of people, even if they don't love them, appreciate the prequels more. The sequel trilogy showed people what a real clusterfuck looks like. It's definitely possible that in 10 years people will come around on the sequels. But I feel like the disjointed nature of the story and the storytelling war between JJ and Johnson will always bring them down.
The prequels are great... my favorite trilogy actually. There were no prequel apologists coming out, just the kids who grew up with the movies finally grew up and could speak up. I’m glad more people can appreciate them now.
The prequels were what I grew up on, what I saw in the cinemas. Episode 1 was my first movie and as a little eight year old kid I actually found Jar Jar entertaining. The world, lore and universe was something I will always love, it made me love Star wars, the games coming out then were amazing too, Star wars Battlefront, Kotor, etc. The OT were good movies, entertaining and they were what setup the greatness of the prequels, but the prequels were what came first for me. I was always vehemently against prequel haters. I don't know what OT fans expected with Episode 1, but it was clearly too large an expectation considering everyone were so abysmally disappointed. As for the Sequels, they did everything the opposite of the Prequels. They lacked lore, lacked setup, were all over the place, inconsistent, broke the lore, ignored rules set forth by earlier canon works, turned Rey into a total mary sue instead of the epic character she could have been, etc....When the Force Awakens came out, I felt like the sequels are 10, 11, 12, and we're missing 7, 8 ,9, just like how during the OT days you were missing 1, 2, 3. The OT started in the middle of nowhere because it was meant to be the middle of the story. Episode 4 was meant to follow after Episode 3. Of course when The Last Jedi came out I lost any faith, hope or excitement for the Disney Trilogy, they weren't canon to me anymore, and the Rise of Skywalker only cemented that fact.
They were never bad, watch them for the first time 3 years ago for me Phantom menace: 9, AoTC: 7, RoTS: 8. If they were so awful they wouldn't have a large fanbase, clone wars wouldn't get renewed, Battlefront 2 wouldn't go into the prequels, and disney wouldn't try to get prequel materials in their movies or in mando +All the star wars movies have dialogue problems ESPECIALLY the OT but not bad enough to dismiss the whole trilogy
Fact check: - The Phantom Menace is shot on traditional film. Attack of the Clones & Revenge of the Sith are shot with digital cameras. - Each Prequel movie has more practical effects than the entire Original Trilogy. Tons of miniature and full scale models were used as well as actual sets, in addition to generous usage of CGI.
The original theatrical release of The Phantom Menace also still had Yoda as a puppet, and it wasn't until Attack of the Clones that they decided to go all CGI with him when they realized that he would need to be in order to do his flashy lightsaber fight with Dooku. Then on the Blu-ray release of Phantom Menace they replaced the puppet Yoda with the CG one. It's understandable why they did it, to keep him consistent with the other two prequels, but then it's admirable that even amidst all the CGI Gungans, Toydarians, and Battle Droids being introduced at the start of the Prequel Trilogy that they'd still leave room for the traditional puppetry that made Yoda so iconic in the Original Trilogy.
What i loved about the prequel trilogy that was severely lacking in the sequel trilogy is the world building. There was absolutely none of that in the sequels. George set up the world in the prequels that showed the rise of the Empire and Palpatine. Say what you will about the script or the dialogue of the prequels but what George did with Anakin made his redemption much more meaningful for me personally.
Funny enough I actually love to Prequels from the very beginning thinking it was slightly better than the original trilogy, & when the sequel Trilogy came out that only enforced it and actually made the prequel trilogy the Best since it includes the Clone Wars!
Revenge of the Sith was my favorite Star Wars movie. That's why I'm grateful that Disney made the sequel trilogy so now people can appreciate the prequels more.
What you’re saying is facts geekdom my generation (95’-99’ born kids) grew up with the prequels and we love them, but I don’t see 2010s kid’s aligning themselves with the sequel trilogy but guess we’ll see
While I still don't like (and never did) HelloGreedo, this is actually a true statement. The Prequels actually BUILT lore within Star Wars where as the Disney Trilogy (I REFUSE to call them the Sequel Trilogy, regardless if that's what they're "officially" known as, because they don't deserve to be called that whatsoever) broke the lore. Plus, the Prequels had a consistent vision where the Disney Trilogy had an inconsistent one. Nevermind the fact that they went in with NO PLAN. Add on: I also disagree with time healing wounds in regards to the DT. With TLJ even being used now in filming schools to show how to NOT write a movie or a movie sequel, I *DOUBT* kids will watch the DT in the future and sympathize with empty and flat characters that had their potential squandered like Rey, Poe and Finn. If anything, they MAY sympathize with Kylo as some people now did, but they will be disappointed.
@@modernwarrior24 Oh no, dude. No, no, no, no, no. GT essentially is something you can watch again cause it has A LOT of legit good stuff in it. The Disney Trilogy has NONE of that.
I will stand by the prequels until the day I die. I grew up with the OT and was excited go see Anakin's story and the the fall of the republic. And sure, there were certainly disappointing aspects to them. However, I've always enjoyed them and the world that the prequel era provided for the EU. This is expanded times a thousand after these Disney films have been released.
The prequels are camp gold. You get to laugh at them, enjoy the story, and eventually cry with them. Anakin's story rides a fine line between hilarity and utter tragedy. Besides, we can all agree Palpatine was easily enhanced by his *Master Manipulator* storyline. People always argue about how powerful this or that Sith Lord is, but Sidious tricked the Jedi into destroying themselves! The dude is legendary fir this alone.
I saw a comment on Reddit that summed up this topic perfectly: "The prequels set up the universe that the OT takes place in and told the story of Anakin’s fall to the dark side. Some parts of the prequels could have been done better, but overall they did what they were meant to do and told the story they set out to. The sequels completely invalidated the majority of the OT, fundamentally changed old characters and completely wasted new ones, and created a new story with so many holes that the last movie spent the first 45 minutes trying to plug them."
The Phantom Menace is the first movie I remember watching. I don't remember Attack of the Clones all that well, but Revenge of the Sith is a good contender for my favorite Star Wars movie. I grew up with the prequels. I see the flaws, but I'll "defend" them anyway, because they're NOT as bad as a lot of people say- they're definitely not bad enough to ruin someone's childhood, at the very least. If nothing else, I could tell even as a child that George Lucas had a lot of passion for the story he was telling, and I respect that. And THAT is my biggest problem with the sequel trilogy. I can look past a poorly executed story if I'm invested in it, and it's easier to be invested in something when the CREATORS invest themselves in it. The Force Awakens was a lazy remake of Episode 4, but I was still excited see where the story would go. There was no passion in The Last Jedi. In fact, I felt the opposite. TLJ seemed like nothing short of a hate letter to Star Wars, and I'm convinced Rian Johnson intentionally left the series in a difficult situation. It was barely a sequel in the sense that it didn't follow any of the plot hooks established in TFA, and it didn't leave much to work with for the finale. It's no wonder there was no passion in the story, because there was no PLAN for the story, and it shows.
Biggest problem with the prequels is the story George wanted to tell was to big for three films. When you read the legends material as well as the clone wars it becomes a better cohesive story. You see the sith manipulation on how the republic turned to the empire over a long span of time. You see Anakin go from slave, to emotional teen, to war hero, to Vader. I love how Anakin went from whiny brat to bad ass in the clone wars because it a realistic growth. The older you get the more mature you become. I love Luke to death, but Anakin has the more interesting story. What I love about the prequels is you know how the story ends. It’s all about how did the galaxy get to this.
Now, at the end, do you understand. Jokes aside, it's sad that it took this f*cking Disney Trilogy for people to open their eyes. You can think the Prequels aren't good films, but you can't say they aren't fantastic Star Wars movies that expanded the Star Wars Universe/Lore so much. A franchise of movies thrives and survives on the ability of those who make it to create and expand, to always look further and invent new concepts, new themes, new things whatever it is. It can't survive on cashing on nostalgia and laziness, even if the films look, sound or are written well, which these " things " Disney made weren't.
Time heals all wounds. We learned to appreciate the prequels for all the good they did. The sequels will be forgotten and seen as just plain bad storytelling.
Revenge of the Sith is damn fucking good. A lot of great moments leading up to a great while also bittersweet ending with the death of Padme, separating Luke and Leia, the Birth of Darth Vader and the galaxy being left to be consumed by darkness
say what you want sure the sequels have the best visuell effects and beautiful scenes overall but the prequels had a better narrative/story. Sure there were bad one liners but the story told from episode 1 to 3 is better than from 7 to 9 IMO.
I was born in 89. So the 20 year anniversary of the original trilogy hit when i was about 8 years old. So i got a child's view of the original and grew up with the prequels . all that considered my list is 5,3,6,1,4,2.
@@OversoulRRR i don't hate the sequels. Its just so hard to develope an attachment to any of them. The Rise of Skywalker is still fresh i need some more time to reflect.
The prequels at least had a consistent plot and decent character development. The sequels felt more like overproduced marvel movies with their stupid and unnecessary comedy. And Revenge of the Sith is my #1.
Though the execution was by no means perfect, the story itself was great, and was a complete story and had a straight path from the beginning, adding a amazing new era to the lore of Star Wars paving the way for the clone wars, plus, Revenge of the Sith is a fun movie to watch with friends, so for that, the Prequels will always be alright with me
It’s a circumstance where you realize things can always get worse and you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. As cliched as it sounds, it’s true. Lucas needs to reboot with Filloni and Faverau if Disney wants to survive.
There is some surprising fact. The prequels use many practical models and effects in addition to the CG. More than the original trilogy’s use of practical effects. We should give credit and thanks to ILM. The Naboo starfighters blowing up. The control ship explosion. The Utapau sink hole and the Podrace/Geonosis arenas are all models composited together with the actors
Bro fr I started watching them again and liking the characters even more. I even thought more into them than the sequels which were terribly planned. Let’s all agree that Qui Gon could’ve saved Anakin from the dark side and brought out the best possible version of him had he not been killed by Darth Maul
The Star Wars Sequels are a fundamentally bad story with no direction. The Star Wars Prequels are a legitimately good story that is held down by bad writing. That's the difference.
I watch the prequels in a purely comedic fashion. The line delivery is comedy gold. People say ROTS is the best one, but it’s my favorite because my sides will legit ache from laughing so much.
Of course the prequels had better storytelling, it had beginning middle and end. The sequels were not persistent and was not the vision of George Lucas. George forgive us... We know not, what we do!
I think the main reason everyone hates the sequels is because of the directors reaction to the fan backlash. They tried to paint anyone who disliked the movie as sexist and racist.
I always loved the prequels. Before Disney even got star wars i always enjoyed and appreciated prequels i don't care what anyone said. George made an amazing 6 episode story. I'm very happy george made the 6 films. I like prequels better then original trilogy.
Right after watching Episode 9 in theaters, I immediately rewatched Episode 3 just to compare them. I still don't know what I think of 9 still, but the best thing the Prequels did was open up Star Wars to so much more lore.
Revenge of the sith is by far the best film to me, with 5 and 6 being right behind. The reason is because 5 and 6 was too generic in how it handles good and evil, while episode three, as I got older, is more understandable and relatable every viewing. Plus, I rewatched 4, and I realized it's not that good, entertainment wise but story wise, and I fell asleep watching it from how boring the first part after the shop boarding was
Personally I think ROTS and ROTJ are the best. ROTJ ironically is the most criticized of the OT, I think that's mainly because there's not much distracting people from the flaws compared to the others.
I’d rank the films like this: 1. Return of the Jedi 2. The Empire Strikes Back 3. A New Hope 4. Revenge of the Sith 5. The Force Awakens 6. The Phantom Menace 7. Attack of the Clones 8. The Last Jedi 9. The Rise of Skywalker The top 5 are the good films.

Andrew Riordan not really it more like the original is the end if you seen the ending of Episode 6 it felt earn than episode 9.
So glad someone feels how i feel never understood all the hate for the prequels
Plot twist that was the ACTUAL goal of the sequels
And in a never ending cycle, the inevitable Episodes X-XII will make the sequels better
@@zoroark65 I don't think there will be episodes X, XI and XII. Ironic. The sequels could save The Prequels from death but not themselves.
Imagine that Lucas started drawing inspiration from the Emperor. What if he knew that putting faith in Kennedy would result in her betraying him, scrapping his original ideas and resulting in lackluster films that would force audiences to admit his movies weren’t actually all that bad? 🤔🤔🤔

The ending of Episode III was not rushed at all. It perfectly tied everything together.
While I’ll always prefer the originals, the prequels have been elevated especially ROTS.
I’ll take them over the convoluted sequels any day of the week.
Convoluted?

Not to mention how the new movies ruined Luke and Anakin's story..

The new films kinda took a dump on that...what a shame.. :/
It's no longer the story of the Skywalkers once Rey became the main character.
My ranking of the Star Wars trilogies:
Sequel Trilogy - As a whole, it's okay, not the best or the worst.
Original and Prequel Trilogies - Both classics in their own rights.
Angelo Cherrington the prequels are classics, very terrible classics
Finally someone who agrees with me
Angelo, I agree with u. 👍
Not sure any of the Star Wars films are classic other than maybe empire. And I love Star Wars but as stand alone films they’re not amazing films just an amazing creation and franchise.
I’d say empire is the best followed by new hope revenge return phantom and clones.
If you’re saying the sequels were neither the best nor the worst, that means you think the prequels are either the best trilogy or the worst trilogy.
The prequels were good ideas, executed poorly, I’ve always been a fan of the prequels, I was relatively young, so I never even knew people had this reaction to them until I got older
The prequels had a lot of practical effects actually, especially the backgrounds, because cgi was not ready yet
I was gonna say that but then I found you brother
Phantom Menace had more practical effects then ANH
Afro Studios it's true.
Doodle Dangernoodle that's correct.
Love the prequels, unique deep storytelling about the downfall of liberty and the rise of demagogues. They expand their universe.
The sequels are unnecessary rehashes without any art design or ideas. They are not just redundant but diminish the previous films.

Jar Jar >Rey!
The most powerful sith lord
I have always been a fan of the prequels to me you can tell what's going on and it had a better story and development in my opinion
Tamamo
Amen, my friend
They were never bad, watch them for the first time 3 years ago for me Phantom menace: 9, AoTC: 7, RoTS: 8. If they were so awful they wouldn't have a large fanbase, clone wars wouldn't get renewed, Battlefront 2 wouldn't go into the prequels, and disney wouldn't try to get prequel materials in their movies or in mando
+All the star wars movies have dialogue problems ESPECIALLY the OT but not bad enough to dismiss the whole trilogy
Fact check:
- The Phantom Menace is shot on traditional film.
I think people realized the prequels are not that bad because after witnessing The Last Jedi they now know what real trash looks like.
Episode 3 is still my favorite Star Wars movie. It made Vader my favorite character. It added so much more depth to the character.
Time will never heal Lukes character.

Revenge of the Sith is the best star wars movie ever made.
Revenge of the Sith was my favorite Star Wars movie.
That's why I'm grateful that Disney made the sequel trilogy so now people can appreciate the prequels more.

I saw a comment on Reddit that summed up this topic perfectly:
"The prequels set up the universe that the OT takes place in and told the story of Anakin’s fall to the dark side.
A classic case of how you start appreciating something you initially didn't like when something even worse comes around.

Me too!!! Been saying this since last Jedi.
The Disney Trilogy made everything that happened in the Original Trilogy all for nothing. That is unforgivable.

The prequels at least had a consistent plot and decent character development. The sequels felt more like overproduced marvel movies with their stupid and unnecessary comedy. And Revenge of the Sith is my #1.
Though the execution was by no means perfect, the story itself was great, and was a complete story and had a straight path from the beginning, adding a amazing new era to the lore of Star Wars paving the way for the clone wars, plus, Revenge of the Sith is a fun movie to watch with friends, so for that, the Prequels will always be alright with me
Judging my merchandise sales and the volumes of it on clearance, the Sequel/Disney Trilogy might not be remembered fondly
It’s a circumstance where you realize things can always get worse and you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. As cliched as it sounds, it’s true.
Lucas needs to reboot with Filloni and Faverau if Disney wants to survive.
The cool thing is we're getting the original story in Dune.

Of course the prequels had better storytelling, it had beginning middle and end. The sequels were not persistent and was not the vision of George Lucas.

I think the main reason everyone hates the sequels is because of the directors reaction to the fan backlash. They tried to paint anyone who disliked the movie as sexist and racist.

Red letter media said this about
The force awakens
And I quote
"I loved it"
Revenge of the sith is by far the best film to me, with 5 and 6 being right behind. The reason is because 5 and 6 was too generic in how it handles good and evil, while episode three, as I got older, is more understandable and relatable every viewing. Plus, I rewatched 4, and I realized it's not that good, entertainment wise but story wise, and I fell asleep watching it from how boring the first part after the shop boarding was
I pretty sure most people do now
Personally I think ROTS and ROTJ are the best. ROTJ ironically is the most criticized of the OT, I think that's mainly because there's not much distracting people from the flaws compared to the others.
Here's the thing, the prequels, despite their flaws, did more good by adding to the overall universe as opposed to subtracting from it.
I’d rank the films like this:
1. Return of the Jedi
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. A New Hope
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. The Force Awakens
6. The Phantom Menace
7. Attack of the Clones
8. The Last Jedi
9. The Rise of Skywalker
The top 5 are the good films.

I wouldn’t call Force Awakens good. Okay at best.
