Beautiful design! Happy to have found your channel! Though I've been crocheting a few years now this crossover stitch is new to me and I love it. I'm not totally confident with it yet.. What number of clusters will we have at the end of the round- if our base is the same size as yours? Thank you!
Hi Sparki! Love your "handle" name! Very cute. 🌸 There are two double crochet for every cross stitch. If working the same base as mine, you should have a total of 30 double crochet (15 cross stitches). If you increase to a larger size, as shown, then whatever stitch count you have after your last increase round, will be the same going forward. Hope that helps, and thank you for asking! I've since gotten into the habit of explaining that in each new tutorial. I'm so happy you're enjoying my channel, and appreciate you being here! 🩷 The crochet cross stitch is one of my top favorites, too! 😃 (p.s. Cluster stitches are completely different, and I love those too!)
@@cabinfevercrochet Thank you for the compliment as well as taking the time to explain about thy stitches.. I am definitely looking forward to checking out the rest of your content!
Hi! You'll need to increase the base round, to slighting inside the diameter of your cup base. (So it'll fit snugly; since yarn stretches with use.) Once you've completed the first 3 rounds as shown, your next sequence for Round 4, will be: 2 double crochet (dc) in the 1st stitch, 1 dc in each of the next two, * (2 dc in the next, 1 dc in each of the next two) *, and Repeat from * to *, all the way around. Depending on the yarn thickness you're using, that one extra round might be enough. If you need to increase by one more, then Round 5 is: 2 dc in the 1st, 1 dc in each of the next 3. Repeat that sequence around. Then continue on with the tutorial, as shown. Hope that helps! 💖
Hi there! About how many yards do these projects use? I heard the hook sizes and yarn recommendations but may have missed yardage. Thanks so much for the tutorial! Looking forward to trying it out.
Hi Allison! Thanks so much for asking! I don’t think I mentioned yardage. (I’ve gotten in the habit of it since then.) Amount does depend on how tall you make it; but for the shorter ones, less than an ounce. Really takes very little. Makes good scrap yarn projects & fun little gifts! 💗
On my row 3, I keep ending up with only 28 doubles and my chain 3. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have 20 on my second row like I am supposed to.
Hi Candace. I wonder if you’re skipping over your beginning chain 3; since it can squish down and blend in with the dc next to it. That or maybe missing the last double crochet in the round. I hope that helps and you’re able to find the missing stitch. 💗
Oh sorry for misspelling your name. I’ll blame it on AutoCorrect! If you can’t find the missing stitch (or two), and want to continue with the pattern, one way to work around that is to add in those two missing double crochets, spaced apart halfway around from each other. Into stitches where you have only one double crochet, so they don’t get bunched up. I’m cheering you on; so you can make as many of these to your hearts content! 🥤
Hello and thanks so much for watching! This should work fine for a glass tumbler. You might want to use a yarn with some "bite" or grip, like cotton, to help keep the glass from slipping. But whatever you have available should work. Just be sure the cozy fits snugly. I gave one to my neighbor, in mercerized cotton, same type as the yellow and gold sample shown. She used it on a glass beer bottle and it worked just fine! Here's the link to another bottle holder with strap that you may also enjoy. @@sushmanedungadi8069 Oh you're very welcome and I'm always glad to help! Sometimes it may take me a little bit to answer, depending on life! You're very kind and I appreciate you for being here. 🥰
Yes, you certainly can! It would make a nice crossbody water bottle bag! Just place the straps evenly across on both sides and make them as wide as you like! Thanks so much for watching! 💗
Hi. I’d like to help you figure it out. Harder without photos of your work; but my first thought is you’re adding in an extra stitch perhaps at the beginning of a round or somewhere else where it doesn’t belong. I suggest counting each round carefully while looking at your stitch placement to see if you can find it. If you’re not able to figure it out from there, you may email me if you’d like, with some close-up pics showing each round and I’ll take a look at it. 💁🏻♀️ CabinFeverC@gmail.com
Is the extra stitch on the double crochet round or the first cross stitch round? If it’s the latter, see where you’re placing your first and last stitch and compare it to what I’m showing. A common mistake with the cross stitch is not skipping a stitch before you dc into the next, then cross back over the dc and work into the first skipped stitch. If you’re worked into the previous stitch cross stitch by mistake, it will create an increase. Hope that makes sense.
I don't know why, but everytime I make the magic circle, the string to tighten it is in my right hand instead of left and It won't turn. Also, I can't see you work while your crocheting so I can't figure it out.
Hi Shalyn…pretty name. I’m sorry you’re having difficulty with the magic circle and not able to see what I’m doing. I really appreciate you letting me know. (I’ve since learned to pay more attention to the placement of my hands.) Let’s see if I can help you here. I think you might be pulling up the loop to form your ring, from the tail end, instead of from your working yarn that’s attached to your skein/ball. If not, then maybe you’re catching the strand that’s wrapped around your fingers, instead of from the working yarn. I have more recent videos where I create a magic circle and will reply again with the link and time stamp; so you can go right to it. Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching. ❤️
Hi Again! Here's the link for my crochet keychain lip balm holders. The time stamp is @ 6:15.: ruclips.net/video/bYlHfI6gruM/видео.html You'll also see at about 6:40, that I pull my tail end out from inside the ring, where it got wrapped around the yarn that's on my finger. I've found by doing that, it'll cinch better, when you're ready to close the circle by pulling on the tail end.
Seems you’d need to attach a handle, to hang it off the arm or backrest bar. If that’s what you mean. I have another water bottle holder, with handle, if you’d like to check it out. Here’s the link! ruclips.net/video/Ajbve5nGgmc/видео.html 😉
Hiii! This is so cute! Is this feasible for beginners in crochet? I have no background in doing crochet but I really want to make a holder for my tumbler. If it's possible this will be my first project in crochet 💜
Hi and thanks so much! I suggest practicing basic stitches first. Getting comfortable with the hook and your tension; so the stitches come out evenly. Doesn’t hurt to give it a go. It’s easy to take out & try, try again! It’s all about practice! This is worked in double crochet to create a Crosstitch pattern, and then slip stitches around the very top to finish. Just be careful with the placement of your stitches as you follow along, so they land where they are supposed to and you don’t wind up with one extra or one short. I’ve also linked at the top of the comment section, an optional cinch tie. Have fun and enjoy the process!
I'd call this a confident beginner-friendly. Always helpful to have a grasp of basics first; but depending on how quickly you learn, it may click with you right away. I hope you get "hooked" on crochet and find many other projects you want to make, too! 🧶💕🧶

I've also pinned the written instructions at the top of this comment section, if you need to refer back to it again. At 12:13 where the cross st. begins for rounds 5-9: Slip st into the top of your beginning ch 3, to join. Ch 3 (as you 1st dc), cross over in front of the that ch 3, and dc into the 1st dc to the RIGHT (the last dc of previous round). Then skip the 1st dc that's to the LEFT of your beginning ch 3 of this round. DC in the next, then cross over the dc just made, and dc into that skipped st. * [ skip the next dc, dc into the next, cross over the dc just made, and dc into that skipped st ] * Repeat from * to * around. 💗
I just noticed a couple of typos, which I've corrected. Take care and hope it turns out!
