As a narrative filmmaker, I was really impressed by this short you guys made. All of the blocking, cinematography, camera movement was really excellent and told a story.
The epitome of "show don't tell" ! So many channels talk their way through a "typical day". You just showed it. I was marveling at the number of camera angles for each sequence. Either you had helpers, or you re-did the same "acting" over and over again from multiple angles. Either way... EXCELLENT. Judges say: 10/10

Your editing has become so professional over the years as you show us your life in such an engaging way that I don't even turn on the TV anymore when I watch you two... just live. OMG! What an amazing production! Thanks for sharing your daily life and lifestyle. For the first time I realized all the composition that goes into your productions. The multiple camera shots that have to be planned, positioned, shot, retrieved and relocated for the next shot. What looks like a seemless move from the boat to shore for a run, becomes a complex dance of framing, filming, backtracking and collecting gear and moving on to the next fleeting beautiful moment. Kika, your time on the silks was artistry. As if you were painting the sky and landscape with your body. You became the art. Simple beautiful cinematography. I started watching about three weeks ago and I watched your “binge” playlist from the beginning and now I feel so close to you both and to see you go from a flexible keel and cleaning out the old owners stuff through all these projects and now filming and editing a video like this! I seriously got emotional. Not as much as when you got engaged though, but this is fantastic and I love you guys.
I came back to rewatch some of the scenes after you explained how it was filmed. Rewatching the silks scene, you just get transported away into the beauty of the movement, the sunset, the music. Amazing!
This is a fantastic advert for "Sail boat Living" it all looks so appealing and wonderfully relaxing not to mention stylish and just amazing!.........what the recent follower of Uma might not appreciate is the incredible amount of work and dedication it took for Dan and Kika to get where they are in this video!! Talk about professional quality editing! That jogging sequence must have taken HOURS given you were self filming, setup / tare down of tripods, drone footage, no bags for equipment in sight. Well done guys! As far as the boat, you made it look luxurious to live aboard a small boat. That is a testament to the hard work you have put in making Uma your own. She is special!

A Seinfeld episode of sailing Uma! A show about nothing and yet you guys managed to pull it off with style, finesse and some amazing editing and cinematography! This was a very artistic episode. You never quit amazing me you two. Very very well done.
Because I know how video software works, I can appreciate the effort invested to make this happen. All the running back to get the camera, making sure the gear backpacks aren't in the frame, getting the drone to cooperate, driving the dingy around like a maniac to get all the different shots, making sure there's a shaky plugin on all the static shots so it doesn't look awkward.. And then mix the audio so it flows seamlessly, tell the story, make it look natural, get all the critical shots first try (pouring cream, wiping solar panels clean..) I can't even. This was probably a whole day worth of filming plus a whole day worth of video editing, if not more. Plus planning. I mean - what. The only nitpick I have is that the colour grande is a bit aggressive. But I guess that's just artistic freedom.

While I love the regular stuff, this was a fun trip because I felt like I was sitting on you boat, maybe reading a book and sipping some coffee while you casually bantered through the day. Whoa. Whoa. Watching this Step was like watching magicians. I kept thinking that there surely must have been a seasoned film crew that scripted two dozen scenes and a hundred different camera movements. Remarkable to say the least. Seamless. The red silks movements were, in an of themselves, an aesthetic look. The multi-camera placements seemed to have caught everything. The sun, the skin, the colors of nature. Kika's dance with them took things to a different level. The contrasts of her skin tones against red silks and an endless blue sky. Lovely. In all candor, your Steps are out of category. They exceed reality TV. They exceed a couple's sailing documentary. They exceed the productive elegance of a first class movie premiere. In the end, I'm left feeling like I have just witnessed an unforgettable dance performance. Bravo.

On a sailboat, there is always the unseen side of sailing. Being in strange water, currents, tides at a strange dock or at anchor. Our beautiful sailing friends, Dan And Kika, do a superb job of keeping us focused upon the positive aspects of "liveaboard life," concealing "the non-stressful and very challenging side of boat living".
I have to say this is one of my favorite video you two have put together. Simple but you can tell it took a lot of work to put together. You two have amazing life and are living it on your terms. Many never get that chance or won't take the risk to get it. Thank you so much for sharing.

My "minimalist boat life" is EXACTLY like that! Except, I wake up at 5:15 to a boat that is almost completely disassembled inside, step over stacks of plywood, power tools, and paint cans to grab an orange juice from the luke warm water in the cooler. Then I walk to the marina showers because I haven't gotten power or water running through the boat yet. I walk 5 blocks to the parking garage where I get my van and drive to my carpentry job. When I get home I jump right back into the last project and work late into the night until someone a few boats down yells, "Jesus, can you give that saw a rest!" Seriously, you guys have done by far the nicest boat reno that I've seen. It's important for people like me who are just now jumping into rescuing a boat to see the possibility. That goes a long way when I'm straddling the bilge at 11pm under a hanging light and nothing I see remotely resembles a finished boat yet. :)

I have watched (binge) Uma up until this episode and I have to say that she is unrecognizable from the first episode. You two have done an amazing job. I especially like the sleek modern look of the new electric engine and the drive over your old engine and chain connection! Being an architect I love the interiors! Will continue to watch.

I love it when you guys stretch yourself and try out your ideas for us. While I love the regular stuff, this was a fun trip because I felt like I was sitting on you boat, maybe reading a book and sipping some coffee while you casually bantered through the day. It was such a mellow vibe and everything I know about silks I learned from Kika and you captured it in such a tranquil way. Well played!

Watching this Step was like watching magicians. I kept thinking that there surely must have been a seasoned film crew that scripted two dozen scenes and a hundred different camera movements. Remarkable to say the least. Seamless.
The red silks movements were, in an of themselves, an aesthetic look. The multi-camera placements seemed to have caught everything. The sun, the skin, the colors of nature. Kika's dance with them took things to a different level. The contrasts of her skin tones against red silks and an endless blue sky. Lovely.
In all candor, your Steps are out of category. They exceed reality TV. They exceed a couple's sailing documentary. They exceed the productive elegance of a first class movie premiere. In the end, I'm left feeling like I have just witnessed an unforgettable dance performance. Bravo.

I felt part of your life for an instant, spectacular editing and video quality, got me to chuckle out loud with the run start... lol.. So So cool to watch... knowing where you started, your boat is not only looking fantastic, now feels like a little floating love nest, and you guys are finally claiming every minute of well deserve enjoyment out of it.... well done you two!

On a sailboat, there is always the unseen side of sailing. Being in strange water, currents, tides at a strange dock or at anchor. Our beautiful sailing friends, Dan And Kika, do a superb job of keeping us focused upon the positive aspects of "liveaboard life," concealing "the non-stressful and very challenging side of boat living".

So satisfying to see this again. Hearing the birds. The music choices felt so good, put me right into the scenes. Love the mo be short atmosphere.
My "minimalist boat life" is EXACTLY like that! Except, I wake up at 5:15 to a boat that is almost completely disassembled inside, step over stacks of plywood, power tools, and paint cans to grab an orange juice from the luke warm water in the cooler. Then I walk to the marina showers because I haven't gotten power or water running through the boat yet. I walk 5 blocks to the parking garage where I get my van and drive to my carpentry job. When I get home I jump right back into the last project and work late into the night until someone a few boats down yells, "Jesus, can you give that saw a rest!" Seriously, you guys have done by far the nicest boat reno that I've seen. It's important for people like me who are just now jumping into rescuing a boat to see the possibility. That goes a long way when I'm straddling the bilge at 11pm under a hanging light and nothing I see remotely resembles a finished boat yet. :)

I have watched (binge) Uma up until this episode and I have to say that she is unrecognizable from the first episode. You two have done an amazing job. I especially like the sleek modern look of the new electric engine and the drive over your old engine and chain connection! Being an architect I love the interiors! Will continue to watch.

Two things: I love these videos where "nothing happens", i.e. you're just sailing or living, doing your daily thing. Not every video needs to "be an adventure". Also have to mention: you two are so damn cute! Just adorable. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful filming and storytelling. But the "air dance" (how it's named? ...at 16:30) made be jawdropping. What an artist! Beautiful. And the shots are fantastic. And the care for audio details makes this short film to stand out. Loved it.
