To quote Gordon Lightfoot🇨🇦, From his song The Edmund Fitzgerald.
"Does anyone know where the love of God goes , when the big waves turns minutes to hours"
Your outer casing of your job line is the strongest and protection facture.
Sailor of forty years and spent 4 years in my youth as a merchant marine. On a 120 tugboat pulling hundreds of thousands ton barges, from Vancouver BC to Alaska in the beginning of January. We were tied up for three days because if a massive storm. We had to leave because of the cost factor . We got out to open the ocean in the Pacific with 80 foot swells. Our tugboat from water to chimney stack was 65 feet, and we were getting buried when in the trough of the swell. We were worried that our stack was going to get swamped and stall our engines. We had 2 1,500 HP engines and could only make 3 knots. So I know the feeling.

So refreshing to see YT sailors actually checking the weather and re routing rather than sailing direct into bad weather and oh no what drama the auto pilot broke catastrophic 😅 🤙🏼

Glad you enjoyed the video. Not sure why anyone wouldn’t check the weather and reroute accordingly and if possible but we’re fortunate the auto pilot didn’t break! We’ve had that happen on passage and it does suck!

The slo-mo on the waves really gives a sense of how big the seas are. Alot of times the camera doesn't capture the magnitude of the waves, but you guys did a great job. Have fun, be safe.

The thing about manifesting you dreams to reality is that YOU are the X factor. You are the only true obstacle to making your own dreams happen. Life happens fast and you either hop on the ride and hold on or you sit on the sidelines and watch others living the life you want to live.
This year my wife and I made our first move from the sidelines to a player in the game with a small 17' Vagabond pocket cruiser for us to learn on, on Lake Champlain. It's been an AMAZING summer on the water and I can't recommend to anyone reading this enough. Do it. Buy that boat that tickles your fancy, fix her up and get out there. Just get out. Trust me. You will not regret it. To team Jibsea. THANK YOU from SV Morning Star for showing us the way here in Vermont!
Where to go? Stick around. Uma had a blast wintering in Northern Europe .

Guys. A most fabulous episode ‼️ ‼️ In this episode, if one was a sailor or not we could tell the waves were huge. I mean when in the trough and ago you can see in the sky and the horizon disappears, you know the waves are at least 10-15 feet. Have been there and you two handled it like real pros.

Think you could get stuck there. Europe, there is so much to see, the history. The Azores was just something to wet your apatite .. smilin ... You did a fantastic job showing the see state, holding the camera steady and letting the boat move in and out of the frame. .... Yup choices, the choices we make or made determine where we are, will be in life .. and Oh the choices we are presented with ... maybe the smallest choice we make today will be the biggest determining factor of something that happens say 5 years from now ... and all we can do is use what we know in this instance to make our choice .... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....

No freeboard, and the waves were towering above me. This is when a camera was a camera and you did not see the results until long after the pictures were taken. Much more balanced approach including the debates about your success rates at catching fish, and remembering that you need to drive on the correct side of the lights now that your not in north america lol (Green starbord right)
Its just a shame that the cameras never record the true feeling and look of the ocean, or we could experience some of the seasickness as well! It's probably always better to 'fall off' behind a trough (or storm) rather ahead of it. As a sea-going forecaster for many years, I've learned that sea heights are severely underestimated by most shore-based folks. They are always bigger than what they seem, like those swells @ 11:01 ... easily 12-16 feet.

Yep that sounds about right, they were massive!

@@SailingJibsea I remember once in the mid '80s, we passaged the Tasmanian Straits and experienced combined swells and wind waves at nearly 50 feet. Shore based forecasts were calling for 12-16 feet sea hts and they seriously doubted our real-time reporting, so much so that they told us they couldn't possibly be that big. I was observing from the O-4 level of the ship (approximately 40 feet above the water line) and was looking UP at the crest of the wave from the bottom of the trough.

Well, so much for all the Hunter Yacht Haters who say Hunters are Not Ocean passage makers....
Personally, I'm certain those haters are full of green envy monsters.
It's funny as well, that when I arrive at an Anchorage with my newer Glen Henderson designed 38....it never fails many "Hunter Haters" end up in my cockpit (usually about 8-10) for sun downers, and then head right to my awesome Galley and huge dining table...
Geezzz what lovely hypocrites they are....😂
My Hunter 38, is the finest sea kindly, comfortable sailboat I've ever owned, and I've had quite a few...
