By the way…no other sailing RUclips channel comes anywhere close to you in documenting the enormity and tireless motion of the oceans….unbelievable! Thx, again, Andrew
Stunning images! I love Amy's comparison to waves and flames....they both roar! The pictures bring back thousands of memories, some where I had to look up to see the tops of the waves. I grew up aboard my Dad's boat. He was a skipper on his beloved "Sundance" sport fishing in the Pacific Ocean off of Westport Washington; I grew up loving every (sometimes harrowing) moment; love the sea! Of course absolutely no comparison to your remarkable bravery and adventure. I am 71 yrs old so in early days we had charts and bouy bells to follow but only rarely got caught in big seas/fog.I only watch your channel, just can't do anyone else. I'm not sure how I'll manage when you reach home...Thank you.
Def it! I was once in 40’ waves with my 23 ft sloop in the Atlantic going to the Caribbean 😂🤣😂 wave after wave washed totally over her for a day and a half! It grows hair on your chest quick!
As a 75 year old avid sailor, who has spent many of my years at sea in all kinds of crafts, and every experienced most kinds of storm you can imagine; however, I can only offer to you guys my sincere and deepest respect for your “journey” and adventure that couldn’t be verbalized; a testament to your great seamanship and photography and direction. Your presentation itself is exemplary and worthy of an equal to many documentaries from the majors. Well done indeed and thank you for allowing me (and everyone here) to enjoy every moment of that epic voyage, while personally bringing back long past memories and wry smiles. Thank you.
The emotion when Amy said “I love this boat” was felt. The feeling of knowing your life depends on something, and having confidence in that something, brings with it a love. ❤
Beautifully said, Daniel K....I sensed her emotion too. I thought how one can never give it up even if it stays mounted in the backyard, such a trusted friend.
When I sold my first little sailboat a couple of years ago I cried and felt sad I did things like varnishing I didn’t need to do as she was already sold , but I cared for the boat and wanted to pamper her as I knew we was parting company. I felt guilty selling her like I was cheating on a woman I loved, my real girlfriend didn’t get it but now with our bigger boat she finally does. Yeah so I felt it resonate too during this film I’ll call it a film because of the quality and what about that mood music spot on
Word - Ive been a mechanic all my life & I absolutely hear what you say. Sometimes something mechanical can serve us so well, trouble-free & reliably that it does pretty much take on the personality of a very loyal friend - pretty much like a living thing. Physically & technically it actually is.
I've sailed your current route this year and after finding your content I have to echo what many others have said - your content is spectacular and the real deal. Equally you are also the real deal - and inspiring for anybody watching. Keep adventuring please!
Another excellent presentation. You have to admit it, you both are, in reality, true British sea-dogs. Your sea going experience shines through! Florence's sailing qualities have been well demonstrated! Cheers and beers.

I’m surprised you didn’t lose your Bimini or any other stationary canvas in the gale. I was once caught mid ocean in a Cat 1 hurricane in a 44’ mid cockpit sloop. It was up to God, enduring 3 days with almost no sleep, and our sea anchor. It cured me of whining to myself about things like three flight delays.
@@Thomas-eu6fj, indeed this is the real stuff, exactly how it can be miles from land, Matt & Amy are a great team not only to function and cope in such conditions but to film and narrate too.

The still picture of the translucent blue 0:44 wave with the dark cloud behind it is spectacular!!! I think it is the most beautiful picture of a 0:44 wave I have ever seen. You should win a award for it!!! Agree with others; best sailing You tube channel. You really captured it!! You both have such a stoic nature! I have sailed briefly in 40 knot winds it is exhausting. The sound of the wind and howling can drive you mad. Amy just sits there and says …”I love this boat!!” You are channeling Joshua Slocum. “ I saw weather coming and I Took in some reefs”
The wave videos are out of this world. Thank you for your artistic appreciation of what could be a terrifying endeavor. It's as being translated to another realm!
That was so real, the sleep deprivation, bruises that you have no idea how you got them, wet or at best damp oilskins but then the exhilaration of surfing down breaking seas mixed with an element of anxiety. You captured the essence of heavy weather sailing perfectly. A warm welcome home to you next weekend, we hope to see you in Australia on the next lap.
Absolutely awesome and terrifying at the same time. The photography and videography in this episode is award worthy! The best sailing channel on RUclips hands down.
Congratulations on surviving this massive series of storms. Matt, Amy, I don’t have words to explain how I feel about watching you sailing these storms. Of course, this is nothing about me. I must say that respect for you heaves in my body. These were periods of life threatening winds and waves to a land lubber like me. We watched you work and ride through them, tweaking the boat, surviving by your wits, will and endurance. I could see and almost feel your fatigue, the stress and strain. When Amy smiled, I literally sighed with relief. God bless you, be with you and protect you. Wow you two have guts you really do.. Reading the comments below I don't need to add anything.. its all been said. You're amazing that in the middle of that spin cycle you can find the time and the effort to pull out a camera and produce some amazing footage. Well done..
I first saw your channel 6 months ago when I was researching asymmetrical spinnaker. I was surprised on how well the two of you get along on your small boat. I agree with the others that this video was very good in documenting the sea state.

Thank you for sharing your love for ocean, Florence,. le reste en français, vous êtes les meilleurs et les plus sincères marins que je connaisse. Bon vent, from south of France
I know you can’t hand steer for the majority of a passage like this, but I find that if someone is hand-steering, you can manage the boat to be far flatter and steadier than the wind vane or auto pilot… and the upshot is that the person down stairs can sleep more easily. We try to have someone hand steering on their watch for at least a portion of it when conditions are challenging so that those off watch can get better rest. Just a note from offshore racing where you’re not allowed to use auto-pilot: I rest far better when I’m racing than when I’m cruising, and it’s usually because of the feel of the boat down below when auto is steering. You can tell it can’t anticipate what’s coming.
As an old man looking more backwards than forwards, i envy you two. I wish I had thought of doing something similar almost 40 years ago, but alas I was busy doing other more mundane things that seemed like a good idea at the time. On the other hand, I’ve seen 5 of the 7 continents and many of the wonders of the world so I can’t complain. You can only fit so much life in a life I guess. I can only say keep it up. One day your memories, and these videos, will be what sustains you.

Thanks for sharing this part of your challenge with us all. Your courage and doggid determination are an example for us all. Yes we can comes to mind. Brilliant guys.
So glad Rolly Tasker Sails in Phuket made a STAYSAIL for you. It appears to have done full duty when conditions got tough. Amazing the sails have lasted as long as they have since Phuket.
We sailed in heavy weather (for our boat) off the Florida Keys.. I wish I could enjoy it and think it was fun, but it was scary. You guys make it look easy and it's inspiring. Thank you!
In a modern sea of RUclips sailors “Sailing Yacht Florence” is by far above all. Great cinematography documents what it’s really like to go sailing! Awesome stuff guys! ❤
One of the very best sailing channels...You actually sail!!! not just party in your thongs. You are incredibly courageous taking care of your boat and each other with quiet confidence. Incredible. And then to top it off is the fantastic photography skills. So well done.
Nothing is more terrifying than the prospect of pitch-poling. Those are gray beards and they have real teeth. Already having endured one knock down, Matt and Amy demonstrate actual true grit. Those were 30-40 foot waves! Well done!!!
An exceptional video, in which you captured the whole experience with such honesty. Most would have stopped filming, but you not only kept the camera rolling, but shot some brilliant images. What a team, what an achievement! Looking forward to sailing the last leg with you next weekend!
And that's some hard core sailing! My gratitude know no bounds for these episodes! You have a unique ability to capture the sea in all its states and the power of it. What an incredible share!
Great videography. To help with passage sleep in heavy conditions I put on a sleep meditation. I set the timer to stop at about 30 min. It's not 100% but it sure helps set the body up to sleep much more consistently. Waiting for a window now to sail from SavuSavu Fiji to Opua then down the west coast of NZ
Phenomenal ability to show the power and size of the sea. I’ve not seen any other RUclipsr demonstrate this as well as you have in the early shots of this episode.
Sailing under/thru the 🌈 was brilliantly unplanned and mind-blowing.👏 The vibrant colors seemed florescently powered. I'm looking forward to your completion the 23rd. I wish I could be there. Thanks for sharing another brilliant Atlantic sailing episode 🌬 ⛵️
This was a fabulous presentation.. Very well done... It took me right back to the 70s/80s, my days as a yacht delivery skipper.. all those trips out in the Atlantic.. Storms one after another,, the grey, the wet.. tired, beyond tired.. As a true gale passes, the oppressive and forbidding aspect of the sky changes. With the passing of the Cold Front, the sky is broken up, the dark grey fragments into widening acres of blue and the sun tears through to bring life and colour to the formally slate-grey ocean. The waves now will be every bit as large, the wind may even increase for a period but now the heart lifts and there is an exultation inside that makes one want to raise a cry of elation. The waves being high above the yacht's hull are breaking in a brilliant white cascade of foam and the solid water of the wave itself, narrow at the top and widening in its bulk lower down filters the sunlight from light turquoise through green to deep blue all in movement. Far from being intimidating the motion of the yacht now feels more like the ride of a spirited horse. Elation soars with the rise of every wave and far from being cowed we are now in command of the ocean. A child-like simplicity is felt and the tendency is to laugh out loud. The elation due in part to knowing that the passing of the cold front indicates the worst will soon be past and decent weather on the horizon. At 75 yrs of age it's all long gone but the memories, the boats, the crews.. much still there.. Many thanks for your very professional efforts.
Incredible sailing! And Florence just surfs those waves is a thing of beauty. Great camera work capturing those waves. Watching you both deal with the challenges at hand in such a calm and cool way is so inspiring. It can be done and this now you do it. Amazing.
Once again, you amaze me with your stunning, realistic footage of what it's like to be at sea. I've only experienced a bit of this life, but you do it justice! Looking forward to continuing to follow your journey, and especially in the northern areas.
I've watched several sailing channels and actually clicked on yours by accident. I have to say, I'm glad I did. Through some very trying times, there was zero manufactured drama. You knew what you were getting into and faced it bravely and realistically. You commented on the faith you had in your vessel and each other. You mentioned how you knew what you were getting into when you departed. No fake tears and fond remembrances of unfinished business. Interesting. informative, courageous, and real. I'm a fan. I really enjoyed it and will be following. Thanks.
Just a winter refit and a hello to the Family that we haven't seen for years and then we'll be off again. Taking Florence to the Arctic for a new challenge and a change of scenery!
You two really put out excellent videos, your channel deserves much more recognition. Best of luck for the final sail into the home port, wish I could make it
4:38 Whoa! Was that a 10 meter roller? I'm merely a coastal sailor and I have experienced three meter steep chop with white caps, but Dude, you would need pitons to climb to the summit of that sucker. All hail to the acumen of the mighty Sailing Yacht Florence. You and Amy are sailors as is your vessel. Most glad you survived to publish your videos. Sail on.
This reminds me of our trip from the Abrolhos Islands in Western Australia. We were on our way trying to get to Montebellos Islands, north west Australia. We encountered 6 storms one after another. We had to moor at shark bay for 4 weeks, with winds in the 50 kn. We have a 34' beneteau, and she handled the rough conditions extremely well. For two oldies, 77 and 75 it was a trip of our lives. So keep going guys and enjoy your life.
My son and I watch watch several of the sailing channels including Delos, La Vagabond and others. In every other channel that we watch we have heard the phrase, " We just can't capture the size of these waves on the camera". Well you two put them to shame, because you sure did, time after time! It was like we were watching a movie, a scary one at that. I sailed off the coast of Southern California and Northern Mexico for years and I have never come close to seeing the relentless yet awesome seas that you just traveled. What an incredible testament to your physical and mental strength and seamanship! Bravo! Oh, and Florence is a beast, a beautiful one yet still a beast. Thank you for allowing us to taking us along on such an awesome experience in the safety of our home. Cheers to you both!
This is living, not sitting in a nursing/care home worrying about pressure sores & waiting for the inevitable. I have no more family. I’m the only one left & soon to retire, get myself a boat again and make a return to the sea. I’d much rather take my chances out there in the big seas. Your videos are refreshing and giving me great insights. I’m very interested in the self steering gear you’re using, manufacturer/reliability etc having not had any experiences with it in the past. I’m more of a tiller man myself. Thank you for the time & effort in producing these movies. Stay safe out there 👍
Hands down my favourite episode so far! As always, the cinematography was just outstanding (as plenty of others have said, no other channel captures sea state the way you guys do), But what I REALLY enjoyed was the story telling in this episode - the multiple sequences where you juxtaposed music, B-roll and Talking Head footage to take us on the physical and emotional journey as the days passed and the winds kept on blowing were truly awesome. This stretch of the North Atlantic is memorable for pretty much anyone who sails it, but you have created something that honours the experience in a way that will keep it fresh years after the intense memories begin to fade. Bravo!
I was starting to get a little tired of the enormous amount of sailing channels on RUclips, all very much of a likeness. But then I came upon yours. Thank you for making it so real and authentic. And, by the way, hats off to you both for how you dealt with that very rough, scary and tiring crossing.
We all love Florence too - almost as much as we’ve come to love and respect you two, Matt and Amy!!! Well done on surviving such a challenging passage with such good spirit and hope you have an enjoyable onward passage 👍👍
As a light sleeper, sleep deprived in my day to day life, I can only express my massive respects to your venture. Two people in sync, working together on a big project.
I have watched this film several times now as it is just beautiful and frightening in the same measure. The editing is just wonderful and on point in every way. I think the comparison you make of the waves / wind and the flames of a fire is so strong. You will be at home port now and I hope you have some well deserved family time. Btw I think Oyster you provide you with a free new yacht - Florence is a wonderful companion. If you do any crowdfunding for the refitting I would contribute so when decided let us know. Welcome home for now and can’t wait for the next journey.
Despite the confidence you must have in your abilities and of course the boat, your sangfroid and stoicism in what for most of us would have absolutely terrifying conditions is awesome .. so too is your stunning production… i agree with a previous post, your videography is so good that Netflix or Amazon should bundle it up into a major series ..
Spectacular video. Shows a better representation of the sea surface and heights of the waves. Having spent 5 days in similar seas, sleepiness was the norm. Between the pitching and rolling of the boat, the anxiety made sleep difficult. One thing that helped me fall asleep was visualizing I was at an amusement park riding a coaster and not at sea.
By the way…no other sailing RUclips channel comes anywhere close to you in documenting the enormity and tireless motion of the oceans….unbelievable! Thx, again, Andrew

Words cannot explane just how magical your videos are, thankyou so very much, stay safe.
Now watched this three times, brilliant Amy and Matt and of course Florence .
Amazing video coverage of North Atlantic sailing conditions. Well done!
Gorgeous job of filming the sea state and photographing the waves. It is so hard to do it justice and I think the slow frame rate made it perfect.
This was a fabulous presentation.. Very well done... It took me right back to the
70s/80s, my days as a yacht delivery skipper.. all those trips out in the Atlantic..
Storms one after another,, the grey, the wet.. tired, beyond tired..
As a true gale passes, the oppressive and forbidding aspect of the sky changes.
With the passing of the Cold Front, the sky is broken up, the dark grey fragments
into widening acres of blue and the sun tears through to bring life and colour to the
formally slate-grey ocean. The waves now will be every bit as large, the wind may
even increase for a period but now the heart lifts and there is an exultation inside
that makes one want to raise a cry of elation. The waves being high above the
yacht's hull are breaking in a brilliant white cascade of foam and the solid water of
the wave itself, narrow at the top and widening in its bulk lower down filters the
sunlight from light turquoise through green to deep blue all in movement. Far from
being intimidating the motion of the yacht now feels more like the ride of a spirited
horse. Elation soars with the rise of every wave and far from being cowed we are
now in command of the ocean. A child-like simplicity is felt and the tendency is to
laugh out loud. The elation due in part to knowing that the passing of the cold
front indicates the worst will soon be past and decent weather on the horizon.
At 75 yrs of age it's all long gone but the memories, the boats, the crews.. much still there..
Many thanks for your very professional efforts.
Just seen you on BBC World News!! What an epic adventure!! Outstanding.
This was a powerful episode with emotions on the edge and incredible videography. My husband and I were on the edge of our seats.
OMG you guys are amazing, the love for Florence is beautiful ❤️
This is the best footage anyone has captured on YT sailing channels of the height of the waves and rough seas.
Incredible sailing! And Florence just surfs those waves is a thing of beauty. Great camera work capturing those waves. Watching you both deal with the challenges at hand in such a calm and cool way is so inspiring. It can be done and this now you do it. Amazing.
Such a yar little boat. She's beautiful.
You give a new meaning to the word intrepid! " Don't think that we not enjoying it...haha..."
The pair of you are amazing. Your filming is top notch and you bring it home how much Florence buck and sways
Once again, you amaze me with your stunning, realistic footage of what it's like to be at sea. I've only experienced a bit of this life, but you do it justice! Looking forward to continuing to follow your journey, and especially in the northern areas.
“I love this boat, l love ocean sailing”
Yaahhh. Magic.
One of the best sailing video I have seen!
Thanks.
Best sailing channel out there. Fantastic. Don’t stop too long in the UK.
Just a winter refit and a hello to the Family that we haven't seen for years and then we'll be off again. Taking Florence to the Arctic for a new challenge and a change of scenery!
One of the only videos I’ve seen that gives a sense of scale to the sea state…
Ahhh, Rainbow to Leward Rain Runs Away - Rainbow to Winard Foul All The Day
You two really put out excellent videos, your channel deserves much more recognition. Best of luck for the final sail into the home port, wish I could make it
Totally agree with all you've said
Sail on.
FRAFF-FUL, but EXTREMELY beautiful. Thanks for letting us catch a ride.
One of your best episodes ever! Well done.
WOW ,THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY.I WAS HANGING ON WATCHING FROM THE COMFORT OF MY SOFA.😄
Brilliant video. Excellent sailing. Courageous.
As usual the music and videography in this vlog is fantastic !!
Stay safe out there 👍
I draw inspiration from your (both Amy and Matt) instructional format and positivity.
I am so grateful you have arrived safely home, through the trials of rough seas.
You guys are bloody crazy!AND I LOVE IT!
Hands down my favourite episode so far! As always, the cinematography was just outstanding (as plenty of others have said, no other channel captures sea state the way you guys do),
But what I REALLY enjoyed was the story telling in this episode - the multiple sequences where you juxtaposed music, B-roll and Talking Head footage to take us on the physical and emotional journey as the days passed and the winds kept on blowing were truly awesome.
Those are nice ideas. I vote for not trying to make Florence a safe artic boat.
Hats off to you both and Florence what a boat
Wonderful testament to your seamanship and terrifying at the same time. And puts to bed any thoughts of doing it myself.
Please not those two!
I’ve been watching sailing for a while. That was not sailing. This is sailing!
Spectacular video. Shows a better representation of the sea surface and heights of the waves. Having spent 5 days in similar seas, sleepiness was the norm. Between the pitching and rolling of the boat, the anxiety made sleep difficult. One thing that helped me fall asleep was visualizing I was at an amusement park riding a coaster and not at sea.
fair play to you both, that takes skill and courage
